For tourist trap hibachi, it doesn't get better than this.

Amazingly this place was packed with locals when we brought our family in.  Our advance team looked at it in the morning and was in complete doubt that this could be the restaurant the concierge spoke so well of...but low and behold this was it.

I don't know if it's par for the course or if we lucked out, but we had the finest table side chef anyone has seen.  This guy was phenomenal.  His knife skills, his interactions with the kids and finally his onion volcano stole the show.

The food was pretty darn good too.

I feel obligated to provide some ancillary information about myself, since my review is very much out if line with the others for this restaurant. So, first, I should note that I am known locally in towns I've lived in for finding excellent food at whole-in-the-wall, off-the-beaten-track locations. Suisha fits the off location bill, but it should be noted that just because a restaurant survives in such a location does not mean it is good. Next, I do really love sushi, and I rarely rate any food, but especially sushi, with poor marks. I feel that every person and henceforth every restaurant has it's own unique thing to offer. There is, after all, a reason that the strange little restaurants survive (speaking, of course, primarily in regard to the wholes in our cities' walls, but this really applies to almost anywhere).

Suisha Gardens is just a really mediocre restaurant. It is definitely in a questionable location, but that does not make it better than those restaurants closer to life. It certainly makes one consider the fact that it must have something of value since it requires some digging to find it. In this case, I really am not sure what that thing is, but I can assure you that it is not the sushi. The sushi is poorly designed, composed of roughly chosen ingredients, and produced in a strange vortex on this planet where sushi wrapping skills must not be developable. Based on the other reviews, they have clearly been making sushi for some time. Why, then, is every maki roll loosely jumbled and falling apart? Some rolls even have gaping wholes of emptiness in the middle. Perhaps that is a unique skill in an of itself? I would've held my comments to myself in the interest of plausible deniability. After all, I did just say a moment ago that everyone has their own thing to offer. However, between my wife and I, we ordered nearly every "special" roll on the menu, and several others of the server's suggestion (yes, I realize that is too much sushi for 2 people... we really love sushi). So there is no blame to pass or excuses to make. It can be said with some certainty that, in a general sense, the sushi here is awful.

One of the artful ambitions of sushi is color, which this sushi really lacks. It is all white and brownish yellow. I really regret saying this, because my hopes were high, but this doesn't even compete with my local grocery store's pre-prepared sushi. In fact, during my editing of this review after returning to my hometown (Dayton Ohio, not really known for sushi), I was offered a "sample" of sushi at my grocery store while walking past the prepared sushi refrigerator. This was a warm welcome back to bottom-shelf quality sushi. Suisha doesn't come close to the poorest of standards.

I respect the other yelpers opinions that this is perhaps the best in town. Let's just agree that this just isn't really a good sushi town.

I'll finish my thoughts on the food here with a few last positive thoughts. This restaurant is good to take your children to for sushi. They actually have a special childrens meal for parents coming to eat sushi. I thought that was a really nice touch. Also, the sushi prices are rock bottom cheap.

My recommendation: head a block over to Denny's and pay 3 times what you are used to for something that just can't be screwed up.

For a tourist trap, the number of restaurants open at 9:30pm at Niagara Falls is appallingly low. That being said, and finding something not only open quite late, but well-rated as well was enough to fill my heart with glee while I braved the late night weather to Suisha.

I ordered beef teriyaki and the bf ordered chicken teriyaki... what we both got was... chicken teriyaki. All right, small enough mistake for a place that has actual japanese servers! No stars taken away for this.

However, with the quality of food I was expecting, I was completely underwhelmed. Everything was "ok", but just ok. The beef and chicken teriyakis were unsurprising, but seemed like something I could easily get at any mall japanese fast food. The vegetables were over-taken by the sauces.....

Maybe the teppanyaki is better earlier in the day... but it's a long way to go to find out.

My only complaint was our confused waitress(es). There didn't seem to be a waitressing system since we got a different girl each time we needed something... this would only be a minor problem if you were in a rush.

But we were on vacation so it was no big deal. It's a few blocks from the touristy area of Niagara Falls, so this place is pretty unknown. We went here on a hunch and some intense research online (food is serrrrious!). My boyfriend and I both got beef hibachi (beef, veggies, white rice), onion soup, beef sushi, and some drinks. The onion soup was a really delicious change to the usual miso soup. We tried a specialty roll (beef sushi) and did not regret it. It blew my mind - the roll was unique and the beef worked really well with their Vietnamese fish sauce.

Our hibachi chef was extremely polite and traditional; he bowed and introduced every single ingredient before he put it on the table. The hibachi itself was one of the best, if not the best, I've ever had. Usually places serve the meat with noodles or fried rice - this place didn't even bother giving you an option. They just gave you white rice because that's how good the meat was. You didn't need to add any other seasoning or mix with noodles.

5 stars. Complete package: great atmosphere, really clean, sexy decor (there's a huge waterwheel in the front, a cozy and big waiting area with couches), friendly chef, and delicious Japanese food. It's a bit on the dressier side, but still relaxed enough to be casual. Three thumbs up, if I could.

This is probably one of the best teppanyaki ( hibachi ) places I've ever visited. The hostess may not be the best english speaker but that's probably due to the restaurant striving for more authenticity.

I tried a beef sushi roll and it was delicious. However the real experience is with the chef at the table.

The chef that worked out table was actually Japanese! Although this doens't affect the food there was a lot of bowing and polite gestures. Before putting anything into the food he's explain to the table what it was. Unlike some other places they don't douse the food with butter here to make it taste good. I would definitely come back here if I was visiting Niagara Falls again.

I've been here twice, and was impressed on both occasions.  I'm fairly confident in saying that this is the best sushi restaurant in the Niagara region (though I haven't been to Michinoku yet - so who knows).

Anyways, I think it's worth pointing out that this place is really not in the heavy touristy area of Niagara Falls (Yay for locals!), but it's not too far away either if you were to walk from Victoria Ave.  Actually, it's difficult to even recognize the place as a restaurant - since it's not really near anything else that resembles an actual business.

Despite this somewhat sketchy location though, the interior of the restaurant itself is better than what you'd expect - although there is (of course) the mandatory excessive use of large ceramic cats with the one hand salute, as well as water pond thing /w wheel (hence the name Suisha Gardens) complete with an array of fake plants to remind you that human beings and fake nature can coexist in harmony.  BUT, possibly one of the coolest aspects of this place is that they are set up for teppan yaki - which until recently, I had only seen performed before by Chris Farley in 'Beverly Hills Ninja'.

The first time I went I stuck to their largest sushi combo plate that I could order, which was I suppose a fair amount of food for a person with a normal appetite.  Where they may lack in quantity, they completely make up for in quality.  The nigiri and sushi rolls are all generally very good and worth trying - eel included.

On my 2nd visit I decided to give the teppan yaki a try.  We tried the beef and also the vegetable teriyaki, and had the pleasure of being entertained by the teppan yaki chef who went through his routine of tossing various ingredients around in the air and slicing them with his knife, then proceeding to set it on fire.  I have to say that, even though he was clearly not an expert, I was definitely having a fun time watching (it's like sitting 2 ft away from some kind of pyromaniac food magician with a crazy sharp knife).  And on top of that, again the food was excellent.

I don't get to eat here as often as I'd like, but it's definitely one of my favourite places to eat in the Niagara area and worth a visit.

pretty good, if touristy.  the place is showing its age, and the toilets are particularly worse for wear.  food was OK.

hidden off the beaten track, this cavernous spot appears to be focused on the theatrical hibachi style dining.  we opted for the sushi & found it to be above average.  wait staff was great, one fellow who had been with the place for 30+ years stopped by the table to check in, and relayed a bit of their history.

we went during the week day and there was 15% off our meal, that was a nice surprise. we went for teppan yaki which seems to be their speciality. Beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki was fresh and well cooked.  waitress and chef was friendly. ordered a spicy tuna roll and it was good but not fantastic. overall it was a great meal.
