Review from Hoa N.
I switched. That's right. I'm a sugar convert. I got sugared.
My guy even said: It just sounds better.
As in, "Hey, Babe, I'm going to go get sugared."
I mean, really, the word "wax" has "ax" in it. Yikes.
I got sugared today after years of waxing.* It is still where your hair is pulled out from the roots.
And I am so happy.
(This sounds like I'm insane? Maybe.)
I can attest that sugaring is gentler, lasts longer and comes with less skin reactions than with waxing. My guy noticed, too.
Things I loved:
Clients take their shoes off at the door -- indoor shoes provided.
How it smells in there: fresh, organic, free of chemicals.
The apple green paint and artwork on the walls.
Discovering that sugaring is an art, how the sugar solution was applied and removed with a subtle twisting of the wrist.
The easy, lively conversation.
The fantastic bar of oatmeal & tea tree oll soap and great after-care product that I received as a first time customer.
Loved loved loved it.
* I tried the highest-rated Brazilian wax place in Toronto, according to Yelp (Nail Sense)--and it fell short of my expectations, way short. The staff was pleasant and competent but the ambiance was on the sterile side and, more importantly, I did not find the waxing products to be high quality -- and this showed in a noticeable and uncomfortable way, later.Listed in: Toronto Beauty List

So here's an update... the woman who I used to go to for sugaring is no longer working at Sugar Moon, which means I won't be going there anymore.
There are a couple reasons why I won't adopt another lady to do my services for me. 1. Most the employees are really nice but to be honest is seems fake and 2. I got in a bit of an argument with the owner and just don't feel like dealing with nonsense anymore.
The good news is I know where the girl who I go to will be working (thanks to the grape vine) so I shall follow.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I went there for a bikini wax, also my first time sugaring... also my first time waxing. Since I am a wimp I decided to easy my way into the Brazillian. Needless to say, I was terrified.
The environment was friendly and welcoming, as were the aestheticians. The lovely lady who sugared me was Shandana (sp) and she did an excellent, precise job. It was, clean, professional, and not NEARLY as painful as I had anticipated.
As a first timer, I was even offered a vodka shot to help with the pain... I doubt it gets any better than that. The only unfortunate part of this story is that I declined as I just wanted to get it over with.
Regardless, I will definitely be back there. Great service and online booking is a plus. -

I have been using Sugar Moon for quite a while now.
What to like about this place:
-sugaring is great -- less painful than waxing and less likely to get ingrown hairs after -- lasts longer too
-the staff - the staff are all great there -- friendly, helpful and always nice!
-the website - they just redid their online website -- now you can book your appointments online --- sooooo soooo handy (I wish more places had this)
I have never had other services except the sugaring -- but they do the whole range of aesthetics.
If you join their mailing lists, they will alert you to deals and other promos coming up.
If you are in the Coxwell and Danforth "hood", this is the best place to go!
Enjoy!
Note on parking -- there is street parking and a Green P parking lot just steps from their door. -

Sugar Moon deserves 5 stars just for having online booking. Seriously. Any place where I don't have to talk to a human being in order to make an appointment (no matter how lovely the human beings who answer the phone might be) is aces in my book.
I'd never had sugaring done before, and after having my, uh, lily "de-gilded" at Sugar Moon (as well as my eyebrows and upper lip), I'm pretty much a convert. The process itself seems a little bit less painful than waxing; on the other hand, the hair is removed in much smaller sections than one might have using regular strip wax and thus the process takes a little bit longer than your typical Brazilian. But the end (pardon the pun) result is just as good.
The aestheticians are really nice and the salon is bright and clean. Plenty of available street parking, too. Although I've only had sugaring done so far, I'll definitely be back to Sugar Moon to try other services.

Oh wow. If you sugar, go here.
I was introduced to Sugar Moon by Living Social - one of those online coupon deals. I went in for a facial and a sugaring, and both were fantastic. The sugaring didn't hurt as much as it usually does, and the girl was very nice and informative. Also, I like that you can just get an extraction facial if you just need some clean up.
The staff is fantastic, and the place is very bright and clean. -

I recently purchased a Groupon for Sugar Moon. I've been sugaring for a few years now, but my loyalty is elsewhere and I couldn't bring myself to betray my beloved sugarer. So I booked a facial instead.
The space is clean, pretty, and calming, though there is a small ticking clock in the treatment room that drove me bananas. The facial was nice (once we got past the 'ozone' steam that made me cough and cough). Relaxing. Pretty smelling. And the extractions Kaylee (sp?) did were much less painful than those done at my last facial. She also did a good job of explaining the impact of various factors on skin and helping me to understand what's behind my occassional acne, so that was nice.
That said, I hate the "subtle" salespitch for Dermalogica products. I just can't imagine justifying an $80 facial cleanser and I don't want to feel like a delinquent because of this. I know this isn't a problem unique to Sugar Moon, and I understand how things work, but I still don't like it.
Also, payment is cash, credit or debit, but they only accept tips in cash, so make sure you have some on hand when you go, or you'll be stiffing your aesthetician like I did.Listed in: Groupon!!

One of my all-natural, hippy, believes-in-alternative-medicine coworkers recommended this place to me when I said that I wanted to get a brazilian. She said she had awful experiences with wax and loved this place.
Most of my waxing experience had been me doing it myself, except for the eyebrows where I usually get a trained professional. I'm just mentioning that because wax definitely hurts more when you do it yourself. So, in comparison, sugaring was a breeze. I'm not going to say no pain, but definitely less pain.
The website says that your hairs need only be 1/4 of an inch versus 1/2 of an inch for waxing. I'd say that if you want the best results, grow it in a bit longer because they can always trim a little.
I got a brazilian and my eyebrows done. The method they use is really cool, they have this ball of sugar that's warm (but not hot) and they pull a portion of it on your skin, and with the rest of the sugar ball attached, they use that to quickly rip the portion on your skin off. It's very effective, but not as strong a pull as waxing. Although this method is great for areas where you want to remove all the hair, it's really crappy for places like eyebrows because it's not as precise as when wax is painted on your eyebrow with a toothpick.
I recommend this place, but just not for eyebrows because the lady who did my eyebrows just ended up using a tweezer to pluck most of it off - and it took a long time for her to do that. And I agree with the other reviewers when they say the staff is really nice - they are and they give you complimentary tea while you're waiting! I'd come back, but I've gotten laser hair removal since. -

I love this place. The staff are awesome, the prices are fair and it's the only sugaring place in Toronto that doesn't use strips. Great for people with sensitive skin.
I have never taken advantage of the other spa services they offer, but they always seem busy.
Sugaring is the way to go! -

Went for my first time tonight, I usually go for waxing but I needed something for today and as most salons are closed on Mondays and they were open, I went for them.
Sugaring is a very different technique than waxing, and while it still hurts a wee bit, its a different kind of hurt than waxing. I think overall its gentler, as my skin isnt anywhere near as red or sore as it usually is after waxing.
Apparently waxing causes less skin irritation (read: ingrown hairs!) so this may be heavent sent.Listed in: Torontoness

I booked online for a Brazillian- my first with sugaring. I arrived early as the weather was poor and wandering the Danforth was not a pleasurable option. I was warmly welcomed, provided with a mug of green tea and magazines. Seeing how busy it was, I thought I'd best ask to book a facial as I had been unable to find an 'open' date online. To my delight they had time then, bumped my sugaring back a bit to accomodate and I was zipped upstairs for a fantastic facial- the extractions were virtually painless!! Denise, the esthetician, was very lovely. Provided plenty of quiet moments to relax into the heavenly movements of her fingers. Her hand massage is the best I've ever had- and her recommendations for skin care was thorough but not forcefully 'selling'- mind you I know the Dermatologica line can virtually sell itself once used!
Denise then showed me downstairs to meet Caylea. The sugaring room was filled with wonderful sounds of Nora Jones- very clean and organized.Caylea made me feel comfortable at once, professional and quick- offering breaks when needed. I had the most hillarious and animated conversations with her, with the intent in keeping me distracted from the ouch factor. It worked, I left feeling like a million bucks- make up less with glowing skin, very few red spots from Denises' expert extractions and in high spirits from my fits of laughter through the painful moments of the sugaring.
I am so glad I returned to Sugar Moon- I had been a few times before they moved. The new digs are much more spacious, soft carpeted flooring (shoes off), the fireplace in the nail salon area is stunning and makes me think of a girls afternoon is warranted! I was pleased to see formaldehyde free nail polish and will book for a mani/pedi later in the Spring.
Recommendations: find a non ticking clock for the facial treatment room -

I used to get my arms sugared here. It IS less painful than waxing, and grows out a lot better. My only issue is the pricing. A little bit on the steep side.

Totally meets my expectations when it comes to body sugaring! Everyone'a super friendly and professional. Place is clean and comfortable. Going for your brazilian doesn't feel awkward at all. And sugaring is much better than waxing - it's all about the end result. For your first time, you should definitely try here first.
