We found this place on our last night in Vancouver when we were looking for a late night place after the Kings of Leon Concert and I loved pretty much everything about it.

The food was average late night fare.  I think I opted for nachos in my post concert haze and Lisa G. went for some sort of taco concoction.  The drinks were better; the Espresso Martini our waiter made me was phenomenal and was a twin to McCormick and Schmick's version.  Why I ordered an espresso martini with a plate of nachos is beyond me, but somehow it worked.

The best draw in this place is the atmosphere and the service.  It's full of really interesting art and It's dark and kind of gothic, from the dim lighting to the huge towers of dripping candles everywhere.  Our waiter was charming and funny even through the crowd of abnoxious concert-goers thronging the place.

I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Vancouver.

I used to come to Subeez quite a bit 4 years ago.....and i think the food was better then than now.

I decided to go for dinner there with my friend, we came there on a Saturday at 7pm and all the tables were full/reserved, so we agreed to get a drink at the bar and wait for the next available table. After looking around at people sitting at the tables we've concluded that eating at the bar wasn't such a bad idea because the people at the tables couldn't hear each other and kept on leaning across the tables. The music was pretty loud. In my opinion it should be turned down a little bit.

We got a bottle of Malbec for our drinks. Was nice. For appies we ordered, calamari ( i did not enjoy it, it was served in tomato based sauce with capers, pretty chewy), yam fries with chipotle aioli ( yams were cut very thick, so the they didn't crisp up and were pretty soggy).

For mains we ordered chicken in red wine sauce over potatoes and a lobster pot pie. We ended up switching the meals because I liked the chicken better over lobster "pot pie". There was not enough lobster and it wasn't really a pie. They just put a sheet of puff pastry over the filling. The potatoes were cut too large so they were not cooked through.

For desert I had the Jojo flourless chocolate cake. I used to have it years ago and it was still on the menu. It's good, didn't expect anything less.

Overall it wasn't bad, the owner or manager treated us to his JD+JD honey shots so that's always nice......I'd come back if they tighten up their menu and execution.

    You're welcome :)

Came down on a Thursday night with my two good friends for dinner. Subeez has some interesting pieces of decor and combined with the dim lighting of tastefully placed candles, made it look almost gothic. We had an awesome waitress, Crystal, who was super nice and had a great sense of humour about her.

The drinks were awesome and came quickly. The appies we ordered were scrumptious. The buttermilk chicken wings were perfectly cooked so the outside was just about crispy and the insides were warm and juicy. The yam fries were good and dipping sauce was yum. The calamari was just amazing here, it was lightly battered so you could actually taste the squid rather than just the batter. However the entrees weren't as good as they could've been. My buddy had the mushroom ravioli which she found a tad too bland even after dousing it in pepper and salt. My other friend had the prawn and chorizo radiatore which she found to be good but still a little on the bland side. I had the spinach and quinoa with the dressing on the side, I wasn't too much of a fan of it. Lots of spinach with too little quinoa sprinkled here and there and I didn't really like the currants.

Overall, this place gets my seal of approval. I will definitely be back here for their yummy appies and awesome waitstaff.

I went here for brunch. Service was slow for a very quiet Sunday morning. Eggs and bacon were ok. The beans were luke warm and the toast cold. "Meh I've experience better" really does come to mind.

The positive is that there is always free tables for brunch. Mind you I think I know why...

I love Subeez. I've been coming here for years, and it's always the same. The service can be good or bad, but the food is pretty decent. I love their brunch, they've got lots of vegetarian items, they're open late, great atmosphere....lots of candles, statues, artwork....it always reminds me of the good old days of DV8.

    AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID

First of all just want to say I think I have complained maybe twice in my life about a bad restaurant but this one takes the biscuit.

Came in for a visit on Sunday for lunch with a few friends. We were seated by the host who was extremely lovely but we never got a server. We waited about 35 minutes untill I got up and asked someone if we could place an order, not even offered a drink.

The food arrived 60 minutes later, at this stage I was so pissed off that I couldnt enjoy my meal. During this stage one of my mates got up and left. When I complained our server offered us free drinks which I said ok, but then I was told that we werent getting the drinks anymore.

After this our server came down and took my dish from me without me even finishing my meal. I didnt want to buy for my meal, but I took the bullet and paid, then the manager came down and bought us a round of shots and apologised for everything which was the least he could have done but was extremely friendly.

To make things worst and have never experienced anything like this before when we were leaving the bartender shouts at us to never come back again which is why I decided to write my first YELP.

I will never step foot in this place ever again and would strongly advise people to do the same.

Been here several times in years past.  Avoided this joint like the plague when I had the absolute *worst* nachos I've ever had in my life at their old sister restaurant, WaZuBee, on the Drive.  Bad on the level that everyone that was there with me instantly shudders and remembers that night when anyone mentions bad nachos.  I didn't think it was even possible to screw up nachos.  I don't think I could even replicate the level of suck if I was trying.  Seriously... suckiest sucky nachos that ever sucked.

Anyways - broke my unofficial boycott when lack of options in the area coerced me to visit Subeez again.

Seat by the bar, lots of good brews on tap and bartenders were really quick and friendly.  Ordered the yam fries (~$9) which were pricey, but actually worth it.  They were well seasoned, cut like steak fries, piping hot and perfect accompaniment for beers.  Not bad.

Not too big of the fan of the unsettling interior, but alright place to grab a drink, I suppose.  Avoid the nachos.  You have been warned.

OK, I decided to make a reservation for my 24th birthday at Subeez. I hadn't eaten there before, but saw that they had a good area for 30+ people (along Homer St.) and was impressed that they would reserve that for me for all of Friday night, free of charge. The manager was really nice when taking my reservation, asking where my party was going afterwards and offering to help me get tickets to a club for the whole group.

When we arrived for the evening, they hadn't reserved that area. "I mixed up my Saturdays and Fridays" I was told, and we were shown up to 2 long tables on the other end of the cafe, at the back of the restaurant side. I had wanted to be closer to the DJ and be able to move around a bit more, but they were pretty accommodating and gave   us the a large space.

The drinks were good! I was having a great time. I did have about 20/30 people show up which was awesome - a BC Lions game finished and the place was packed. All good until around midnight, when I went to look for my purse that I had placed in the very back, in our booth. It was nowhere to be found... someone had stolen it!! It was bad because I was celebrating for my birthday and all of a sudden wished I hadn't had so many of those good drinks so I could figure out what could've happened - we were separated from the main part of the restaurant...it was very strange.

One of my friend's cell phone was stolen this night too. Some guy sat down at the table with a ripped up piece of paper in their hand and asked casually to borrow his phone to call the girl that had just given him her number. My friend assumed he was with our party - he never saw his phone after that. Finally he was told by someone who answered his calls at 8am the next morning that 'they were in Chilliwack and they had bought the phone last night for $300 bucks, and wouldn't sell it back to him.'

I don't even know what to say about all of this. It could be just totally unfortunate that this happened at Subeez... my credit card was used at 8am the next morning in an online purchase (for $16, according to Mastercard - not even that makes sense!) and so it doesn't seem likely that someone noticeably homeless from the area just came in and grabbed it.

My purse was found by some man and his son coming back from Subeez that night in the parking lot above the restaurant, my glasses were broken and stomped, and my iphone 4 and wallet were completely gone. Someone didn't have any style when they tossed the Coach purse though (or stomped the designer sunglasses!).

Anyways, despite the awful personal experience, they did make good drinks. Maybe I'd have better luck with breakfasts.

Subeez is a fun place. I had some tasty minestrone soup in the bar, and a couple of pints from a local brewery. The pricing was reasonable for such a great location and our server was fun. She seemed Australian.

The manager came over to say hello. He was really nice. There was a really annoying song playing. It involved whistles. He said that he would pull it from the playlist forever. Thanks!

Next time we're in town we'll be sure to stop by.

Finally ended up trying this place for brunch when we were on somewhat of a tight timeline and needed to eat somewhere close to my place. It is a very different atmosphere in the daytime; still very modern and somewhat "avante garde", but instead of the more "club" mood that is created by the night time lighting and music, the daylight allowed you to better appreciate the variety of art on the wall. The service wasn't super fast but overall, adequate. Most importantly, I was very happy with my pesto frittata. It was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and a great combo of flavours - really, how can you go wrong with pesto, cheese in open-faced omelette form? My fellow diners enjoyed their meals, too. The coffee was really good, as well.

Overall, a solid choice in my 'hood for brunch.

Awful server. I had such a terrible dinner there last night that I had to sign up on here and post my first review. Overall, the atmosphere isn't bad, although it does seem to have a little bit of an identity crisis. And the food wasn't terrible, but it was also nothing to write home about (bruschetta bread in particular was laughable). The worst part was our server.

We were greeted by a blonde server with a paperboy hat on, who unfortunately we had our first time here too. When I asked "what beers do you have on tap?" she sharply replied "well I'm not going to recite them for you so read the menu". Dinner took over 45 minutes. During this time she never came back to refill our drinks or even give an update about the slow service. It wasn't even a busy night, so instead she occupied her time socializing with other servers at the bar. It's a shame because it's an "ok" place, but we definitely won't go back again.

Visited twice over the past two weeks for brunch.  Enjoyed the eggs benedict with fresh greens and yummy fried potatoes.  The eggs are free range with creamy orange coloured yolks.  Found it a good value for a no frills breakfast.

Waitstaff are friendly but a bit off their game at times (spilling water, forgetting who ordered what, returning to ask what you ordered, etc.).

I've eaten here a number of times. It does have some redeeming values and fills a few niches. Being able to get breakfast most of the day is nice, and their late night stack menu is okay for those times everything else in the area is closed.  The yam fries are quite excellent but everything else is fairly pedestrian.

The service is definitely hit-and-miss. I've had some good service but today I walked in the door, sat at the bar and was simply ignored for 10 minutes (not even a "I'll be right with you") before leaving.

In truth, for trendy upscale casual you are probably better off at the generic Earl's/Cactus/etc. chains.

I was at Subeez for dinner and while I really enjoyed having a lot of art to look at the food wasn't anything too special.

We started with nachos which were quite good but there was a lot of plain chips involved which was unusual since the topping were layered. On to dinner, I had the vegetarian burger which comes with fries and salad. The fries were really good, they had some sort of herbs on them, whatever it was it worked! Didn't eat the salad because the dressing, which is smeared on the side of the plate and not on the salad was basically Dijon honey mustard, waaay too heavy and mustardy to be a salad dressing. The burger itself was of good quality but flavored with a freakin' fistful of pesto, chill out on the pesto guys, it was all I could taste, I had to scrape it all off and then I was left with a plain dry burger with one tiny little sliver of sun dried tomato. Ugh, wasn't too impressed it was like they focused on one spice for each item and took it to the extreme and them just kept going with it! However their one savior was their Chocolate JoJo dessert, it was like a chocolate espresso tort that was the perfect amount of richness and sweetness with good texture!

Their music was also a little meditative for my liking.

True story: Back when I was in high school I came here for a birthday one year because I loved it so much. Then I sort of forgot about Subeez. That is, until last week when a friend suggested it for dinner. The decor is pretty much the same as it was twelve years ago when I last visited, and so is the menu. Only this time, I could actually enjoy a drink with my dinner.

I am a fan of their food (they have some amazing salads and Italian options) and the drink menu is great.

Our service was quick and friendly.

Subeez isn't going to be fast food, so if that's what you are looking for, better hit up McDonalds instead. Subeez is an artsy restaurant, which features some local talent, and though I think it would be a perfect spot for art shows and openings, I don't recall Subeez ever doing one. The restaurant is big and spacious with high ceilings and large tables for groups. This is the kind of place you wanna go to with a gaggle of friends for appies and drinks, or to sit outside and have a pitcher of sangria on a sunny day so you can people watch.

My last visit was on Friday, with my posse after we destroyed the seawall on our bikes. I had a naughty au pear martini, which was awesome. It was not too sweet and filled with delicious booze. I also had a cesar which was pretty decent, and I got three fat olives on a spear in it, which always pleases me. For a late night snack I had the goat cheese salad (which doesn't really sound very late-night snacky, but I wasn't all that hungry.) The salad was alright, I wasn't a super big fan of the pistachio crust on the goat cheese, but it's possible I'd order it again if I was feeling like something light.

Our server was rad, she was witty and prompt and humoured us a bit with stories of what her favourite dishes were. I always like to know what the staff like, because chances are they've tried everything on the menu once. I like Subeez, but I find I rarely end up going there unless its for brunch, perhaps now that I've been there for dinner once, I'll be back more often?

After a year of living across the street from Subeez I finally decided to try it out. I went for a Sunday brunch which was nothing more than disappointing. The service was terribly slow and the food was mediocre at best. Their menu was definitely lacking in the brunch department as it seemed to be more of a breakfast menu than a brunch menu. I just ended up ordering the classic bacon and eggs which I know is simple and boring but I can honestly say I have had better at Denny's which isn't saying much. I also ordered a London fog which took me about 15 minutes to receive but I ca say it was quite good. I would understand waiting and having bad service is the restaurant was packed but it wasn't so overall my visit here was a very disappointing one.

A decent place to meet up for a drink or bite to eat with a friend or group of friends. A bunch of us dropped by after the Britney Spears concert (it should not follow that we actually attended the concert). A couple of local brews on tap. We all agreed that the chicken wings were disappointing: there was no flavor, yet they looked and smelled as if they should. As one guy put it, it was like getting served a mirage.

Try not to stare at the statues too long. Wouldn't want them to come to life. Creepy art!

Subeez is a local Vancouver restaurant with a very art hipster feel.  I came here one night for drinks to catch up with an old friend.  They have a nice bar menu, and daily specials that run all night, in addition to happy hour.

I ordered a Cosmo which was on special, and I found it quite weak, without enough vodka.  I also ordered a Tokyo Squad Car, which I regret, because flavor-wise, it kind of tasted funny.

Service was great the entire night.  The servers were friendly and checking on us.

This place doesn't need another review, but I have been really disappointed with the food here as of late.

Shared the nachos and calamari during a game. They were some of the worst that I'd ever eaten. I could have made WAY better nachos at home. Both portions were small and not priced proportionally. Even the Donnelly group does a lot better than that, and I'm certainly not a fan of "chain restaurants." The wine is pretty good here, and the guys seem to enjoy the beer.

On the plus side, the music is always progressive and the decor is the same interesting decor with the arty crowd. The barmaid was beautiful and friendly, too, and that's just my non-bitchy, straight, female perspective.

I will try not to order food here anymore, although my reliable source love the entrees here. Maybe that's where I went wrong.

I did think it cool that they gave us control of the remote in here. When every other place was packed during an actual "win" for the Canucks, we found a spot in front of the lone tv and so did a few other Nucklehead fans.

Not impressed. I came here on the weekend with a couple friends after watching a movie. It wasn't busy around 9pm on a weekend evening, which should have been an indicator. I ordered the steak salad, medium rare. A couple friends split the nachos. Our server asked them if they'd like to add guacamole, to which they said no.

Food came, and my steak was more like medium well than medium rare. I waited about 10min before I could even catch her attention. I told her very politely that my steak was overdone. She cheerfully took it back to the kitchen and put in a new order. It came back in about 15min, cooked exactly like the first one. So I sucked it up and ate it rather than argue that medium rare steak is pink in the middle.

Oh, and when we got the bill, she had charged my friends for extra guac, even though she specifically asked them and they said no at the start of the meal.

Pleasant enough server (competence is questionable, however), but not enough to convince me to return.

I would love to give this place more stars cause I actually enjoyed everything I've tried there.  It's just the service! SO BAD and slow!!  Every single time!

Our server the other day walked by us at least a dozen times while we tried to get her attention to get some ketchup and refill our drinks, no checking to make sure our food was ok...luckily the manager was awesome and got us everything we needed when she saw that we were looking around for our server.  She literally came to our table just once to take our order and thats it.  Food was great as usual, so it made our 2 hour lunch somewhat worth it.

I've been here a couple times and it's an 'alright' place to hang out.  Relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and a decent menu but nothing overly memorable.  It's unfortunate though that it doesn't feel fresh or that there's as much thought or pride put into the presentation of the actual restaurant, and the bathrooms are BRUTAL and definitely in  need of an update to keep up standards with the rest of the area.

Still, it's a good staple to have for some quick eats and if you have larger groups, you can accomodate them unlike most of the restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

"Meh." That's pretty much how I sum up Subeez.

My friend and I decided to do brunch here before starting an afternoon of studying, it was the only familiar restaurant nearby and my experience had always been somewhat decent in the past.

Like a lot of other people, my favourite thing about Subeez is the decor. There is so much to look at! And it's always nice to bring new people there because they get so excited about it. Especially the giant mountain of melted candle wax in the middle of the restaurant.

I went with the Florentine Benny and when she asked if I wanted soft or medium poached eggs, I said medium.. assuming that meant firm whites and runny yolks. Apparently that means hard whites and yolks that are basically jiggly gelatin. Um..... am I missing something here? I was tempted to send it back, but I felt kind of awkward about it since our waitress is someone I recognize from social outings, and I just felt weird about it. Not her fault at all... but anyways..

I still managed to enjoy the meal because the tomatoes and onions had so much flavour. I just cut the egg bits up really tiny so that they were sort of like scrambled eggs... Still though, I ended up leaving a lot of egg behind because I was a little grossed out.

I really really wanted some juice, but all their juices are $5. Um... that's kinda bullshit.  *sigh* Subeez, you can do better than this... right?

Met with friends here prior to a show...haven't been to Subeez  in a couple years, yet like seeing an old friend after a long time, it's always nice to see that the best things in life do retain the same qualities you loved about them from the beginning.  The decor, same as ever, somehow does not look outdated, just well-lived-in.  Same friendly service (thanks Justin!), and my old menu faves still exist: warm goat cheese salad, most importantly!

Happy times, Subeez!  I promise I won't stay away so long this time. :)

    Subeez. Not bad, not bad.

I came here with the girls on a Wednesday night for some martinit's, catching up, scandal, et cetera. It was fabulous. We sat at a table on a raised platform with a little fence around it. Can you say VIP area? Haha. It was great to have our own little space and the dripping candles, low lights and creepy art only added to the ambiance.

I ordered beef bourginon and though the beef itself was a bit dry, it came in the tastiest sauce with little baby onions cooked in (yay). Also on the plate: a large biscuit (dry and not hot out of the oven, but I lived) and potatoes. It hit the spot bigtime; felt like a home cooked meal by mom... yum. For $15, it was well priced I thought.

We each had 2 had martinis and a shot, we were loud (might I say out of control) but the staff were super patient with us.

God bless waiters and waitresses everywhere!

My I have visited this restaurant numerous times and have found the  place to be quite good. The eggs Benedict breakfast is very tasty with creamy hollandaise sauce and crispy breakfast potatoes.

For drinks and appies I would recommend the Yam friends, dry ribs and wings. They use decent quality ingredients and found the service to be quite expedient. The decent selection of beer is over shadowed by the assortment of martinis.

A very good place for a group of friends. The DJ on fri/sat night does spin some good stuff for sure!

I love, love Subeez. It fits nicely in between quick eats and finer dining. In my interview for Vancity Buzz, I even called it my favourite spot to eat. There menu is great and I very much enjoy the R&B Raven Cream Ale on tap.

I first heard about the just outside the downtown core cafe from Terri Kwong, who sat across from me in our second/third grade class with Mrs. baker, off her old blog.

My usual go to dish is the chorizo frittata with yam fries and fresh salsa, because it's available all day. It's so delectable and hits the spot anytime of day and whatever mood I'm in.

The tuna pesto burger is also great. The fillet is like a steak cooked to your preference. I don't even really like tuna and think it's pretty solid eats.

The creamy sauce and cool burger is filling, hearty, and beyond. It's as good as it looks.

Subeez remains my go to spot for dinner downtown. It always just the trick nicely. I always leave satisfied, fulfilled and full. I actually have very little to say about it. I just really like the food there and atmosphere there.

Love love love this place. I've been visiting this place for the last 5 years and I've never been disappointed. I love how they are always changing and rearranging their decor and menu. It also earns extra points from me for being so close to my apartment. Perfect place for sunday brunches with friends.

Came here for brunch over the weekend and I thought everything was great.  Had the classic breakfast and some fresh squeezed orange juice.  Decor is very hipster and cool for meeting friends for drinks/apps/food.

I was a huge Subeez fan back in the day...it used to be the place to go on a Friday night..all the cool kids would be there..Yaletown had yet to explode into the urban pretension it is now...and years later it's still pretty cool..it's lost its edge a bit..but the service is still for the most part bad..the food is still ok..the music is still too loud.. and the candle wax is still dripping into huge mounds....hmmm..why do I like to come here??

What I have recently discovered about Subeez is their great patio! Great bench seating..nice sun exposure...perfect for enjoying the afternoon with some friends while catching some rays!! The pitchers of Sangria are only about $18 and you can order a decent lunch for about $14ish..not cheap but not too expensive...I personally like the chicken and brie on baguette OR the salmon on baguette!

I just stopped in the other day for lunch with a friend and what shocked me was we actually had good service..I know..take a minute to absorb that piece of information...but the server was super pleasant and down right bubbly..no attitude and even brought us our order in a timely matter..what the eff? This is SO not the Subeez I loved..although a nice change..I have to wonder if the Yaletown pretension has worked it's way into Subezz...great..what's next? Are the staff at  Foundation gonna start to be nice too??

    Loud crowded bathroom.

I am having trouble with the towels.

    Archie: Stupid thing.
Creepy Guy: It puts the lotion on it's skin.
    Archie: What?
Creepy Guy: You need to puts the lotion on it's skin.
Archie: *scans room for nearest exit* Holy crap, what??
Creepy Guy: You need to make a motion to make it spin.  Like this, with your hand.
Archie: Ahhh.....yes, very well, thank you.

Besides that little Silence of the Lambs encounter with the helpful Canadian version of Buffalo Bill, this place is ok.

Go for drinks.  Avoid the food unless you are into ingesting 3 liters (oops, sorry, litres) of grease.

Nice looking crowd with complicated motion sensing towel dispensers.

    Yup, that's Subeez.

    Open late which is nice.

    Fava.

Subeez is a constant disappointment. I've been there a bunch of times, usually not by choice, but because I was meeting other people.

The service can be really slow and the waitresses are often crass. Once they forgot our order all together and I was absolutely starving because I had just gotten off a plane. They did end up comping the meal but by the time it arrived I was post-hungry, having not eaten for 10 hours, and couldn't even stomach it.

If you are forced to go here against your will, like I have often been, stick to the cheese burger. It won't be even close to the best cheese burger you've ever had but at least it's edible.

Oh, also, if you can avoid it all I really suggest you NEVER go here for brunch. Lunch and dinner are disappointing but brunch here has got to be one of the worst that I have ever had outside a mall food court. The potatoes are cold and soggy, and the hollandaise for the eggs benedict is clumpy and quickly develops that weird film on the top.

I the second star is for the ambiance because they actually have pretty comfortable seating and interesting decor.

I love this place for brunch, for drinks, for a snack..

The decor is.. weirdly awesome. There are statues of naked cherubs, candles with jesus on them, strange art on the walls, and melted candles everywhere.

Add to that the 'abandoned warehouse' look of the place, and you're rockin'. The bathroom (ladies, don't know about dudes) is the piece-de-resistance.. smashed mirror. Awesome.

Onto the food. I highly recommend brunch on their patio. Honestly, I've never had a bad brunch there.

But if you're just going for drinks and a snack, go ahead and order the yam fries - they were one of the original purveyors in Vancouver. The garlic mayo they serve it with should be outlawed, it's that good.

The staff are awesome. Most of them are rockabilly in some way, dressed with rolls in their hair and tattoos. They're friendly and quirky, just like Subeez.

Looking over all these reviews, I really feel this profile for Subeez has it pegged. 3 stars overall, pretty average, some good qualities and some room for improvement. I can see some people have had some better times (maybe it was the later evening crowd?) while others left some pretty scathing remarks.

I'd like my review to stand out a little bit more so I've included some pictures with it, but as you can see by the stars above, it's also a 3 for me.

My girlfriend and I went on Saturday, around 9pm, and had really quick seating on the street-side patio. That's cool, I don't like waiting in line and it was a great table. It was nice to sit outside and watch some people walk by, the tables were interesting and the chairs OK. I can see Subeez getting busier as the night goes on, the tables were filling up as we were leaving.

The wait staff were great. The ladies were super friendly and chatty, our waitress absolutely smoothed over any minor hiccups the food had. Our drinks and food were pretty quick, and we paid the bill at the table with the remote machine.

Now for the important stuff; the food. We ordered 1 Honey Brown ale, 2 Caesars, 1 Chorizo poutine, 1 Calamari, 1 Supreme Chicken. What really stood out for me were the Caesars and the poutine. The drinks were spicy and dirty, tasted hand mixed (please tell me it wasn't store mix?) and were strong.

The chorizo poutine was great. Those flavors go really well together. Maybe a couple more seconds in the oven/grill/microwave/heat lamp? The cheese was a bit un-melted, but from what I've read some people prefer it that way. If I was drunk, I would be sleeping in this dish.

The calamari was pretty average, and unfortunately the Supreme Chicken (expensive on the menu, $17) was under average. I've included the pictures. We were both just straight up unexcited about both of these. It felt like the chicken dish was a special at Swiss Chalet.

I would be excited to come back to Subeez again and have another Caesar and some nachos. The three ladies sitting behind us seemed to be regulars and were having a hell of a time. They ordered at least 4 appetizers and were gearing up for a round of entrees when we were leaving. I wonder if they made it to dessert.

I have to say, this one was a huge disappoint . I expected more from this place. At least, more than this. (see photo)

First,  the baked beans threw me off.I really wish there was at least some fruit.
I'll give the meal this - it wasn't greasy.  The downer was the sausage and the scrambled eggs were overcooked.

If you like homemade jam this was a nice plus.

I would go again for the atmosphere and drinks but  not the food.

The drippy candles all over the place; the crazy art installations and loud music  accompanied by the young crowds make this a great recipe for the late night partying.

To be honest, the evening is definitely where this place shines.

I recommend the yam fries with your drink.

I know the one star is a bit harsh but I am just rating the brunch had it been a late night listing, I would give it a 3.

I've always loved the decor at Subeez. This is where life-sized sculptures of torsos, an installation of irons dangling in mid-air, and haunting oil paintings, are all brought together in an atmospherically dim open room with two storey high ceilings. The banquettes and small tables make it a nice and intimate place to grab drinks and catch up with friends. The pitchers of different cocktails including sangria ($18) are great for sharing.

On my most recent late night visit, we were grossly disappointed by the incredibly soggy calamari and mushy but burnt crab cakes we ordered. When advised of this, the server actually tasted a ring of the squid and agreed with us wholeheartedly before returning with a replacement dish that was much improved.

I used to love the food, but it was a long time ago that the menu featured the tuna tartar that I still dream of. I hope they bring it back one day. Maybe I just need to drag myself out of bed one morning and try the much buzzed about eggs benedict to change my mind.

I shudder to think about the money I've eaten and drunk at this restaurant over the past 15 years since it's been open.

The good is the music (if you like electronic/experimental) and the cheaper drinks.   Though in recent years the drinks have been getting a bit more pricey.

The service here has always sucked.  It seems they hire the people based on their haircuts, not their attitude.

Ugh, the food has always been a disaster as well.   Again, the chef is probably much too busy being all Emo to bother cooking a reasonable dish.

Go for the funky, dark atmosphere and drinks.  Be wary of the food.

Pretensious with bad service and overpriced, possibly rancid breakfasts.  Need I say more?
Oh yes, and lots of exaggerated cliche neon comic book chicks on the wall. *shudder*
I've gotta admit actually, it was not the worst thing ever, more like an overpriced "meh"  and the whole rancid oil thing really bumps it down from its already low notch.
