    Deadly pastries & breads.
    Scones are good.

Everything and anything delicious can be found here. Pastries, cakes, cookies - even gluten-free Bliss Balls! As others have noted, it is not the cheapest, but then again if you are consuming calories may as well have quality ones.

I could not resist the profiteroles. Fantastic! Also tried their fruit tart - loads of fresh fruit on a custard base with cookie crust. As with most of the vendors here, they accept US$ and have their own conversion rate. Didn't know why for some reason it skewed towards the Canadian$ while the other vendors did an "on par" exchange rate.

If you're wandering around the Granville Island market, grab a coffee from JJBean and check this place out!

I will give Stuart's 5 stars solely based on the delectable delightful New York Cheesecake. No word of a lie, best.cheesecake.ever. Seriously. It is so incredibly creamy and perfect.

Everything else I've tried here has been nice as well. But I'm telling you....that cheesecake.

Have I mentioned I love their cheesecake? Om nom nom nom.

After I got my Americano from JJ Beans, we strolled over to Stuarts Quality baked goods. The have a huge variety of breads, cookies, cakes, tarts, croissants, cheese cakes, buns, etc. You get the point, lots of yumminess!

It's a little on the pricey side but it's located in the middle of a big tourist spot. So, I don't mind the premium as it's totally worth it. The cheese cakes are very tantalizing with so many different types. I see so many people walking by just staring at the mouth watering display of loveliness. They usually don't buy anything on the first walk by, but they eventually break down by the third. Don't fight your urge to splurge, people!

I got my creme brulee and blueberry tart and we headed outside to the watch the spectacular views by the water.

The black forest cherry cake... OMG! So fluffy and flavorful without being inundated with sugar and cheap cream! Very very cute boutique dessert place.

There are so many desserts to choose from and all beautifully presented!!  I settled on a Mango Cheesecake. Heavenly! It's not too sweet, very light and fluffy, and very yummy! It definitely isn't your ordinary heavy cheesecake!

Brought some friends visiting from San Francisco to the Public Market, and it was their "Cheat Day", so.... We decided to get some "Treats"

We heart Treats and will always make room for them somewhere...

This place has tons of pretty baked goods!

    Friends Ordered:
    *Cream cheese cinnamon roll: Good
    *Cinnamon Palmier: Interesting
    *Jam filled coconut macaroon: Good
    *Fruit croissant twist: Good
    * Almond Scone: not sure

    I ordered:
*Wheat-free Dark Chocolate dipped almond cookie: Yummy
*Sugar cookie w/blue frosting (for my baby): okay

Simple: my cookie was all I needed!

Try it! Next time... Chocolate moose ;)

I had a poppy seed square from here and it was amazing. I love poppy seed-centric pastries but normally only really see them in Russian bakeries. I have to add that few of their other offerings seemed appealing to me - they looked like they'd be more pretty than tasty.

We also tried one of their vegan bliss bites. They get points for effort here, but these things were not very appealing. They were overly sweet and my favorite part was the sesame seeds on the outside, which is not saying a lot.

I think Stuart's should stick to what they do best... pies, pastries, and breads... not having made my macarons in a month, I needed motivation and I saw two kinds on their pastry counter - raspberry and apricot.... Seeing that the filling contained jam / preserves, I knew that it would be a sweet treat. however, the appearance of the shell looked too stiff and shiny, but I thought I would take a risk anyway.

Not going to lie, the shell was too hard, and over chewy. I didn't like it. I pretty much opened the shell and licked the jam off it and that was it.

Reminded me of the macarons I wouldn't want to share with my friends because they just didn't turn out. Luckily, I have supportive friends who will eat and give me constructive criticism... and I don't charge them.

Being the carb addict that I am, I'm always on the lookout for breads and baked stuff.  So when Stuart's Bakery was the first thing I see upon entrance to the Public Market, I can't help but stare in awe at all their fresh fruit tarts, cookies, and other delectable goodies.

Since we were there first thing in the morning, they had a fresh tray of their awesome cinnamon sticky buns gooey with frosting.  Of course, we had to order that.  We also went with a few cookies and a fresh blueberry tart that was absolutely phenomenal.  The blueberries were still juicy, sweet and tart, and piled up high on the tart.  Definitely worth the trip to Granville Island.  As for the cookies, I decided on a Skor cookie, as well as a raspberry jam filled shortbread one.  Both were tasty, tasy, tasty- I only wish I could get a steady supply of these cookies at all times.

As with all my other Vancouver culinary adventures, I only wish I had had the time and space to try everything else because it all just looked so good.

    Find your centre.

Within about 10 seconds of entering the Granville Island Public Market, I find myself completely by-passing all of the vendors and heading towards the centre of the market. What is it that teases my senses so? Is it the butcher? The candlestick maker? Nay, it is the baker; delicious, thy name is Stuart.

It usually takes me a good 3 minutes to finally decide which itty-bitty tart I want to pay $5 for, but once I bite into it, it's always followed by a, 'mmm, that was worth it.'

A word to the wise, Stuart's goods should be reserved for special occasions, occasional visits or dire lift-me-ups, in order to prevent its upbringing luster from wearing off.

Recommended baked good: blueberry tart, cinnamon disc, or my favourite- any jam-filled treat.

Score: You shall find your centre, and it shall be gooey.

Stuart's has a veritable dessert showcase that's one of the best looking in the market, but in taste tests the results aren't so fantastic.

I've tried two things from Stuart's - a mango cheesecake and a French citron creme brulee. The mango cheesecake was good, but ultimately a bit too fruity. It would have been better balanced with a layer of plain cheesecake.

The French citron creme brulee was basically a lemon that exploded all over a perfectly normal creme brulee, infusing it with an overload of zest that renders it practically inedible. My girlfriend and I couldn't even finish it.

Perhaps some of their other desserts are top notch, but this is probably a pass in my book in the future.

We went here on this past weekend and we just finished eating our little treats we purchased. I am getting hungry for more just writing this.

Yummmmy. After much debate, I got a Creme Brulee, my husband got the Original Cheesecake and we got a Black Forest Cake to share.
The Creme Brulee was so creamy and delicious. Not too sweet, but sweet enoough.
The Black Forest Cake came with a whip cream and a cherry on top with chocolate shavings all around it. So good! There were cherries mixed inside of it.
As if it couldn't get any better, the Cheesecake was awesome! It had a very tasty strawberry with whip cream on top. Again, not too sweet, but sweet enough. It was very soft and it practically melts in your mouth.
If I didn't already have a cake at home, I would have gotten one of theirs. They were all so pretty and perfectly made.

That day they also had a deal where if you spend $10 you get a free bag of granola. We got one! We have yet to open it, but it already looks good.

I always get a dessert from here when I come to Granville Island Public Market. How can you resist those rows of delicious desserts calling out your name? It helps to be displayed in a busy traffic area of the market. My sister absolutely loves their NY cheesecake. It is fluffy and not heavy with fresh whipped cream on top. I am sure it sells pretty fast.. I have also tried their fruit pie, chocolate mouse etc. over the years and they have always been soft, fluffy, light and all the goodness. The price is ok, not too expensive I guess, especially in the touristy area. ($4.25 for most of the desserts) They used to have a large display of artisan breads as well, but the display looked a bit empty, not sure why?

Stuart's Bakery at Oakridge Center! We walked by the food court and spotted this nice little glass dessert stand and saw all the eye candy. There were fine pastries, special cakes, delicate mini cheesecakes, lovely desserts and fresh cookies/muffins. They all looked so good! The prices were decent too, not charging an arm and a leg for a small piece of bakery.

After some thinking, I got the Matcha Mousse. The green tea was light and just right, not too sweet, with a thin layer of cake inside. Mmmm so good!

I'll have to go again and again to try other desserts for sure!

Even though I regularly go to Granville Island, strangely enough I have never been to this place. May be I had but never really noticed their Rock'n'Roll-ish grungy logo. But recently we got 2 cakes at office from this place. I don't even know what they were called, but one was chocolate mousse cake. Everyone loved them. They were light, not too sweet or soggy. I will definitely try it when I go to Granville Island next time.

Holy crap ! One look at the display case and my heart melted. I had the green tea mousse and it was topped with a physalis. The mousse here is so damn smooth and fluffy. I ate it in my personal record speed. We also got a rustic bread sliced to take home and it went great with our little homemade charcuterie and cheese plate. The service is great and they accept plastic.

I walked by here about 5 times during my visit to the market, trying to convince myself to not buy something, but of course I wound up leaving the market with a treat.  The one thing I bought was a Pistacchio Macaroon.  It was delightful.  It was absolutely delicious.  $2 for such a tiny thing is ridiculous, but it was worth it.  The bakery itself is a sight to behold.  There are so many delicious looking desserts lined up.  I enjoyed just staring at it all.  I know I only sampled one of their many treats, but it was delicious and I highly reccomend this bakery.

The people aren't very friendly but the Chocolate Decadence Cake is one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever tasted. The cake is nice and moist and the frosting is perfect - just chocolatey enough and not too sweet. Good for sharing.

The other day, I was a sad, lost soul wandering Granville Island.

Then I stopped at Stuart's Bakery and got a viennese florentine. I don't remember what I was sad about. I do remember the utter decadence of that little pastry and the joy that filled my heart as I bit into the chocolate mousse in the centre. It was so rich it took three sittings to finish. (Granted, I'm a lightweight with too-sweet things.)

    Bless your soul, Stuart.

It's visually overwhelming to see the massive amounts of really delectable looking treats in the cases of Stuart's. If I didn't have to go to a wedding the next day, I would have gorged on 5 of the pastries there, but I exercised a bit of restraint and split two. The fruit tart was pretty typical, but I really enjoyed the moistness of the black forest cake.

Stuart's Bakery is actually a branch of Max's Delicatessen & Bakery, the venerable Oak St bakery/deli.  Nearly all the same stuff - especially the delicious breads, which are all worth recommending.  However, my review of a bakery lives or dies by one item - the chocolate croissant.  Max's chocolate croissants are usually decent.  Stuart's chocolate croissants made me frown.  They were solid as a brick and overly stuffed with what seemed like a poor-quality chocolate paste, as if quantity of chocolate would make up for lack of flavour and bad pastry.  Most everything here you'll love if you like carbs and sugar, but croissant lovers, hop and skip out the market and over to La Baguette et L'Echalote.
