What a beautiful way to start off my mother's day! My daughter started me off at midnight last night with a present which was a gift card to Stratusphere. So this morning we started off with a trip to Trish Stratus' yoga studio this morning. Trish recently launched a line of wellness teas so to celebrate the studio had FREE classes for mom and tea tasting in the lounge. We held off redeeming our groupon and took advantage of the complimentary class. But we'll be back tomorrow as my daughter and i are looking forward to enjoying the next month of yoga at Stratusphere!
First of all, the studio is absolutely stunning - hands down it is the one of the best in the GTA! It is huge: 3 different studios and a lovely lounge and the change rooms were my favorite - it is like you are in a spa. Apparently Trish and her husband built this together and it shows in the small details.
The class was a wonderful gentle flow and the teacher spent time with each student. The class was a nice size, not too full and I figure that is due to the strategic schedule that gives a wide selection of timeslots and levels.
Afterwards we showered and took our time in the change rooms and got ready to meet our family for brunch. But before we left, we went to relax in the lounge where they were serving Trish's new line of teas. Named like the levels of their classes Strength, Shape, Spirit - each tea offered a different benefit. I had the shape and my daughter had the strength - both delicious! Melissa was kind enough to explain each one to us and offered us tea biscuits and apple chips. A very nice touch!
One last stop on our way out was to their little shop where they had a full selection of products - mats, blocks, towel, DVD you name it! They even had a movie that Trish Stratus stars in! My daughter got me the DVD and yoga gloves (which I have seen Trish wear on BT with Dina Pugliese). We also got all the new teas and one which they were not serving was a 'detox' tea.
We are looking forward to the next month at Stratusphere where we can try all the classes - they even have Zumba! Overall, a wonderful experience. -

As I look beyond the fog this morning, I imagine myself up in the Himalayan Mountains completely one with nature. I reached out into sky with a Raised Arms Pose and found the Stratusphere.
This space is one of the largest I've seen so far having 3 separate Studio rooms where we went to the middle one this evening. The Waiting Area itself is quite beautiful that when I took a seat I was hoping a waitress will come and take my Pad Thai or Pho order and serve me some Tea.
Power Hour(Lina) was held in a dark studio as you pass the Glass door. The walls were lined with this earthy pattern as the room was Heated and the Birds chirped like I was on a Thai Beach Holiday while I adjusted to the temp. I don't think Thai Beach Holidays would have spotlights shining down on me though. I think for some reason I naturally attract super-bright spotlights. Bring SUNGLASSES next time!
You know Lina! Lots of Forward Bend-Chaturanga-Upward Dog-Downward Dog combinations. It's an excellent exercise if you can keep up with her. I usually just do my favourites that seemed to the untrained eyes like that same combination, that's if you FOLLOW and master my instructions fully. Chaturanga-Downward Dog-Chaturanga-Downward Dog. It's basically sticking your ASS up and down.
Lina did come over and correct some of my poses, otherwise known as offering me more pain in the ass, literally. The rest of her exercises was to focus on precursors to the ULTIMATE pose, something Lotus Leaf or something. I did however complete my first-ever Halasana(Plow) but I wasn't sure if I did it properly because all I saw was my own CROTCH.

Used my passport at Stratusphere on the weekend. My yoga philosophy is... if ur not worked enough it's not worth the drive. I wanted a challenge and took David's Ashtanga class. Great instructor who really worked you. He also helped adjust our postures (if needed) and had clear instructions All the movements had a lot of flow as expected. I would've liked to practice more on forearm balancing instead of doing prep using the blocks. I understand there are those who're not ready but some would like to at least try to lift ourselves so we can develop those muscles/balance. We had a really nice savasana as well. I hardly ever fall asleep for that but oddly zoned out for a few mins!
As usual, the staff was very pleasant and the place was just spotless. Mind you... it's winter now u'd think the floor at the main entrance would be all mucked up but it was so clean!
The heated room sure was hot... but if u go early sit under the white ceiling to avoid the heat a bit.
I will def. be back again and next time I want to use the shower at the spa... err I mean Stratusphere.Listed in: Yoga Yoga Yoga! Ohhmm....

Review from Steph L.
Back in the day, watching WWF (don't pretend you didn't watch it), I would have never thought that Trish Stratus would have a yoga studio.
And not just a yoga studio, but one of the prettiest ones I've stepped into.
Brightly lit, decorative and clean, the place is modern and swank.
The staff were friendly, I was using my Passport to Prana pass and my friend got a free pass by signing up online.
It was her first yoga class ever and we were attending a yoga prep class instructed by David.
No pillows in the room, just blocks and mats, it was all about fitness.
David moved us through various fundamental poses.
It was an hour and a half class but it didn't feel like it since he kept us so busy. He walked around and made corrections all the time which was really helpful.
It was interesting that we practiced handstands which surprised me for a prep course, but he did a great job getting everyone setup to try them.
The room was warm. Not hot, but definitely warm if you don't expect it since it wasn't classified as a hot class. The yoga prep workshop is perfect for anyone trying to get into yoga, and I would attend if I were in the area.
Lol, and "Stratusphere" was totally the name of one of Trish's signature wrestling moves. I guess that is more yoga friendly than "spinebuster"! :D -

Holy!! So fancy. A very nice hot yoga place. I enjoyed it very much, I thought I was going to die from all the poses. Class size is just perfect and there is a cool breeze in the wind to stop people me from passing out from the heat.
Also, the instructor's voice was very soothing and it was a fun hard session. -

Dropped by Stratusphere Yoga again using my Passport to Prana.
This time is for a Hot Flow class taught by Mr. Yoga (http://www.mryoga.com). It was a Monday early evening class so it was not too busy, we only has 9 students. Daniel was really uplifting and fun instructor. He really spent the time to make sure we got the attention, help us in our poses.
Though the class was more fitness based with pushed up and crunches... Yes My shoulders and my abs were sore the next day. This is quite different than the regular hot classes I usually attended.
I find the room temperature is just perfect. I guess I was all heated up after all the push ups!
BTW, Stratusphere Yoga does provide complimentary mats.. the nice Jade Harmony mat! (http://www.jadeyoga.co...) They are in the cabinet in the room for your use. Just make sure you spray with the mat cleaner after you finished using them.
As noticed by Rana L., there is no water fountain! They are selling the small bottle water for $1. So make sure bring a huge bottle of your own or fill up your water bottle before coming, you will need it if you are in a hot class!Listed in: Yoga Studios I visited in…, Passport To Prana 2010, A Day in Vaughan!, Some like it HOT! Stratusphere yoga is truly gorgeous. I agree with Jennifer, it really does look like a spa than a yoga studio, as I haven't seen one quite like this.
The showers, change room, waiting area are almost too pristine and look as though they were from the covers of some decor and architecture magazine.
I took two hot classes here from the shape and strength categories, and my friend and I didn't find it hot enough. However, the instructors are extremely fit and able to adjust positions where needed.
They're also well equipped with straps, and blocks in each room (there are 3). The studio was surprisingly busy on a late weekday morning. The patrons? University students and ladies who lunch.
