I only recently went to Strangelove on Thursday (Jan 21/10).  Showed up at 1, but there was still plenty of party left in the place. I appreciate that effort is going into up and coming DJ's, and there seemed to be some heart in the offerings, but there is a reason DJ's are up and coming. Basic (or rather advanced?) mixing / re-mixing skills are still in development.  The crowd is younger, with a mix of still poorly dressed college dudes that might look more comfortable at Mick E Finns to some pretty hip people. All in all, not a bad looking crowd (but what will they look like in 10 years...well anyway, they are still young right now.)

Wednesday is also a fun night, for Soulvation. Funky, old R&B.  If you've never been to one of these nights, then you should go to check if it is your scene. There is a distinct lack of variety however, after a few Wednesdays you stop joking that it's just a playlist. It's just not funny any more when you can list the next 3 songs coming on. But what can they do I guess, there just aren't THAT many songs to be played.  Crowd is slightly older (21-25, rather than 19-23 on Thur), but lots of cool friendly people.

Bartenders are really nice.  Though still no Manhatten's.  Everyone ask for one! It wasn't until prohibition that people started mixing drinks you know! Fight the power, fight prohibition! Drink your drinks straight!

The best day to go is Thursday. Great electric dance rock and the crowd is down for some partying. Drinks aren't cheap but they are decently priced. Bar staff are some of the most friendliest in the city. No cover is always great!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory playing on the T.V.'s when I went in is a nice quirky touch. Inside has Depeche Mode lyrics on the walls and mirrors, narrow entrance with a long bar followed by a small lounge area and a great dance floor in the back.

Overall, if you're wanting a good without that douche club feel this is the place. Crowd is out for fun and down to party. Thursday nights is "Dance like you Fuck" night and well, that's what happens. Prices are decent and music is great.

I have been to Strangelove once and I seriously doubt I will ever go back again... The outside scene was a lot of drunk kids screaming and drawing attention to themselves. I really didn't want to go inside but my friend forced me to commit to one drink. As soon as we walked in I felt the heat of the capacity venue, as well as the smell that goes along with it.

Right off the bat I realised the place was full of jackasses in heels and dress shirts, and the music sounded like a CD skipping on full blast next with the sound of a fire truck in the background. Trying to sandwich my way all the way to the back was brutal and I felt like I was getting sucked further into a black hole of terribleness. We moved to the back because the front bar was rammed, but the back bar was being run by a pair of knucklehead dudes who thought they were auditioning for a role in Cocktail 2. On the television screens were photos of previous nights which confirmed that what I was witnessing is likely a daily occurrence at Strangelove.

After having one drink we decided to have another -- possibly to avoid having to make our way back to the front. I decided to go to the washroom downstairs which were in terrible condition and smelled even worse. Dudes were mingling down there, calling each other "bro" and talking about which girl they're going to try and take home. I quickly got back upstairs, told my friend to hurry up with our drinks and we busted out of there. I think we lasted about 20 minutes total.

Ideal for 19-year olds who like to binge drink, have no taste in music and are too lazy to make the trek to John and Richmond

The last stop of my b-day yelp craziness. Need more be said? I had fun. I think. There was music. People danced. It got messy. I think.

Flag this is you want. I just felt the need to finish the reviews of my crawl stops.

Thanks again for the fun night fellow Yelpers! See you around the city!

My experience with Strangelove is limited, but I had such a great time, I had to write a review!

Came here for my birthday on a Wednesday, which is their "Soulvation" night, Motown and feel-good music were the names of the game. There is no cover, and we arrived around 11:30 and didn't have to wait in line. But the place quickly filled up and by midnight it was packed with people dancing and drinking.

The drinks were priced decently, around 4.50 for a standard mixed drink. The dance floor is small with lounge-y couches along the walls set up for bottle service. But the tight space made it even more fun with everyone dancing and although a few groups had bottle service there weren't any annoying pretentious people.

Best part was the crowd! It's hard to avoid the ultra hipster crowd that seems to be taking over college street but here there were a variety of people in their late twenties (ish) just enjoying a Wednesday night. Although my friends and I are all around 21-23, we didn't feel out of place.

All in all, had a great experience at Strangelove, and can't wait to try it out on a Thursday!

Strangelove is a welcome breath of fresh air on the usually trashy out-of-towner, boomin' system that is College St.

First it was a rock type club, but they've recently opened up their musical mandate to include dance and pop hits.

Thursday is THE night to go if you're 25 and under, it's called "Dance Like You Fuck" and features rotating new DJs who donate their time to make a name for themselves locally.

This is a great alternative to the Dance Cave and Mod Club for University students new to the city.

There's no cover and the bartenders are super friendly.
The space is long and narrow with a bar along one wall and opens onto a dancefloor, booths another bar and the DJ booth at the back. They do bottle service, but it's way mor ehip than a lounge and won't cost you a fortune.
