With the help of fellow Yelpers and their reviews, my bf and I came to try this restaurant and I now have a place to go whenever I need something to make my tummy happy!~ We only come here on weeknights because I don't like to crowd around with everyone.  The service was great everytime, we ususally get this same waitress(I'm so sorry, I forgot your name, the nice lady who recommended the heavenly chocolate mousse and thus inspired my bf to make it few days in a row to satisfy my chocolate craving) but the food was the main reason we come here.  Their mashed potato is my favorite side dish, it's sooo rich and creamy.. I can just order a few sides of mashed potato and call it a meal!

This place will always have me leaving happy and full but not OMG I just had a whole cow kind of full, but the OMG this was a great meal ended with heavenly desert kind of HAPPY, SATISFY full, lol does that make any sense?  You might understand what I'm talking about if you had to go to an "all you can eat buffet" a few weeks in a row with your bf's grandmother because she's visiting from a faw away land and "all you can eat buffet" is a good way to get her to try all different kinds of food and eat lots of crab legs! That kind of full always leaves you feeling OMG i ate a cow and it's slowllllly digesting in my tummy, it's not a good feeling...

I believe STOVE had a minor renovation after st patricks day weekend?  I found out the hard way, when my bf and I drove his parents all the way here from forest hills and then realized they were closed for renovation.  I haven't had the time to go back to stove since then, I wonder what has changed? Can't wait to find out.

I'm so glad I live just a few blocks from this joint.  It might be out of the way for you, but I for some reason I feel that it is perfectly situated, to me.

If the old adage, "it's what's on the inside that counts" were to apply to anything... this place would be it.  From the outside, it didn't look that impressive, but after stepping in, my party and I were quickly greeted and seated by the friendly staff.  The ambiance is very welcoming, it isn't jam packed, but there are bodies on seats.

My party was there for brunch, and I appreciated the select brunch menu with some good ole standbys... e.g. eggs benedict, eggs and hash, etc. (with a free cocktail along with your brunch to boot).  After ordering our bloody Marys and chatting up the waitress about the principles of pulling pranks (it was April Fools day after all), we were then served our meals.

It was about a 10-12 minute wait, no problem for me.  I got the eggs and hash; a simple meal, executed well, devoured (by me).

Friendly service, inviting atmosphere, good company, and apple clove pie w/ custard (omg) definitely put this place on my local faves list.  You'll see me back here.

This review is just for brunch, because brunch is my favorite meal of the week and I find myself dining out for brunch way more than for dinner. Stove's brunch is fine, but not great.

Highlights are the corned beef hash, the steak and eggs and the Bloody Mary. All three items definitely delicious. The Irish Breakfast (a personal brunch favorite) was pretty standard and none of the elements were particularly standout. They used American cheese in the omelet (big no-no in my book) and the hollandaise on the benedict was generic and thick. Their coffee was strong and tasty, but I was disappointed by their not having RAW sugar.

Overall, Stove feels to me like an after church brunch spot, which is not really a compliment. It's just kinda "whatever." Your parents or picky eaters visiting from the midwest, will love it. It's just not that creative and I had hoped for more based on some of the reviews I had read.

The wait staff, however, is very attentive and kind.

I absolutely loved this place! I can't believe it took me this long to find it on Yelp. I went there with family for a birthday dinner, purposely seeking out a place that wasn't too trendy or loud. Finding cuisine that pleases multiple generations and cultures isn't easy but we all found something to get excited over on Stove's menu. All the specials sounded wonderful and everything we ordered was: mesquite ribs and calamari appetizers, the cream of mushroom soup, the steak with peppercorn sauce, and the pork in sherry mushroom sauce special. The service was also attentive and cheerful. I'm thrilled to see all the great reviews. Stove really is a hidden gem but it looks like it's here to stay!

Stove is a small, unassuming restaurant in a corner of Astoria.  There is no subway station for at least a 1/2 mile (approximately), and Stove is decidedly off hipster and tourist radars.  Yet the place is never deserted.  Not crowded, but certainly not without a loyal clientele.  I am proud to be a part of that group.

I've dined there three times now, twice with my mother and once with my pickier stepfather.  Both parents were impressed with their meals and now request Stove every time they visit.  My mother hounded me for weeks to make sure we got a table for Christmas Eve dinner last month.

The dishes are delicious and presented impeccably.  Not fancy, and I prefer it that way.  Just simple and clean;  the focus is on the food and not frou-frou.  I'm not one to fall for Jackson-Pollock-like streaks of sauce on my pork chops.

Their fish-and-chips is better than the ones I sampled in London.  It's my new go-to dish.

Good wine selection too.  Then again, I drink Reisling with almost everything.  And yes, they have a good one.

The fact that I live around the corner (and, OK, three more blocks) doesn't hurt.  Stove is definitely a hometown favorite.

Of all of the amazing places that make Astoria such an amazing hood, Stove is among the very best. This modest sized establishment is the consummate neighborhood dining bistro, boasting some of the tastiest food this side of Queens has to offer.

Located in the no man's land (i.e. east of Steinway), it should be noted there aren't any train stops within 10 blocks in either direction. Like many great places in this borough, a 15 min hike is small price to pay in the name of quality food.

Though their brunch deserves some recognition, dinner is my preferred time to go. The menu is something Gordon Ramsay would surely approve: simple, reasonably priced, continental European fare that doesn't exceed more than a page. There may not appear to be a ton of variety, but rest assured there is a little something for everyone.

So far I've yet to try anything on the menu that wasn't delicious, which is incredible considering how many times I've been here. My go-to options of their honey glazed pork chop with apple compete and rosettes of sole with crabmeat stuffing, fish veloute and pernod essence are menu winners every time. Their crock of French onion soup is some of the best I've had and this is coming from someone who rarely enjoys it. Be sure to pay attention to the specials of the evening, as some of the finest food I've had here were items not featured on the regular menu.

Service is always top notch and the ambiance feels undoubtedly intimate. Seating for anything above 4 people may prove to be tough. Make it a casual date night or even a random adventure in Astoria, Stove is worth the trek.

    On the plus side:
Everything! Service makes all the difference to me when I am depending on a stranger to keep my appetite at its peak. I thought "more water and coffee" and before I could ask, there it was! The waitresses were humble and attentive. They catered to our every whim, including my girlfriend's lactose issues, with class and kindness; true experts at their craft. So A+ for service. The food has a similar story. It wasn't a long wait for the meal even with a pretty decent-sized brunch crowd. The food itself was delicious, though...

    On the down side:
I got my steak rare and asked for med-rare (It was still pretty darn good!). The blueberry tart was anything but (actually it was blueberry pie). And worst of all: It's in the middle of nowhere with a bad parking situation.

I'll definitely be back to sample other items on the menu.

I WISH this was my neighborhood restaurant.  But I live in Brooklyn Heights and not Astoria...so Stove will have to be a once-in-awhile treat instead.

I went to Stove, after having it Yelp Bookmarked for about a year, with a friend who has been before and lives in Astoria.  We walked in at 6:15pm on a cold Wednesday evening and were the only diners (there were two more tables full when we left about an hour and a half later).  Our waitress was so great...attentive but not hovering.  There were a number of specials, including a Filet Mignon and Shrimp special that I almost ordered.  But the Chicken Kiev was speaking to me that night, and I'm so happy that I ordered it...it was amazing!  I had it served with rice and veggies, and it was just like a home cooked meal.  We split two of the desserts, the Creme Brulee and the Double Chocolate Mousse, and both were a wonderful and light way to end the evening.  I honestly can't wait to go back and try the Shrimp Scampi with Rice Pilaf.

The only thing that's not going for this restaurant is location...it's a bit far from both the N/Q and R Astoria stops.  But if you can find your way, you are in for a really great meal.

If perfection was a recipe, this place could make it.

Went here before my flight back home because it was near the airport and I was very surprised.

Thought it was going to be a forgettable quick meal, but I was very wrong.

    This place was perfect.

A greeaaaattttttttt Sunday brunch, with a nice compliantly alcoholic drink and wonderful fish and chips I was a very happy man. It made me forget about my flight!!! Haha

The best thing though, was the Irish coffee. Best I have had ever.  Our waitress was from ireland and she knew what she was doing.

Did I say this place was perfect?

    It really really is.

What a great place! The ambiance is so-so, but what it lacks in romantic lighting and hidden spaces (having neither), it makes up for in great food, convivial service, and truly delicious drinks!

I would highly recommend the shell steak with peppercorn cognac cream sauce. Wow! I do not typically eat steak and had never had shell steak, but this was wonderful. Probably the delectable sauce. Espresso martini very nice. My only regret is that I could not partake of the onion soup, as I was on a date. (which in hindsight, unfortunately, seems to have been an unnecessary sacrifice)

You MUST have the key lime pie martini if you come here. No excuses.

More like 2.5 stars, averaged down.  It's very difficult to write a review about Stove.  There is really not much wrong with it, yet there isn't much right about it either.  I guess to sum it up, Stove is just unremarkable.  The service is fine, the bread is typical, the food tastes fine... just not one thing stands out.

I started with the tomato/onion/blue cheese salad.  It literally looked like it was made from produce you find on a street cart in the city.  The tomato was pale and flimsy... definite second-rate ingredients.  Also had the pan-fried trout which was drenched with garlic and lemon.  Not too sure what is going on with the interior either... $#!t-brown tile floors, boring white walls with a little artwork... little to no atmosphere.

Overall, the food was tasty, but could have been made at a diner.  I am just not understanding the overwhelming reviews about Stove, I can't see going back. Lastly, it was very difficult to park in the area.

I'll never look at dinner the same way again.

Everyone knows how good their brunch is but I was really looking forward to trying the dinner menu.

Appetizer: Had the Prince Edward mussels, sooooo good. The mussels were perfectly cooked, the wine broth was delicious! I couldnt stop dipping my bread in there.

Entree: Chicken Kiev was yummy, a bit dry. The mashed potatoes were really good, very rich and creamy.
The trout was out of this world!!! Crispy on the outside, flaky moist goodness on the inside. You HAVE to get this dish!

Dessert: Creme brulee was okay. I prefer their pies but they werent serving it during dinner hours.

    Service: Outstanding!

I'll definitely be back for that trout!!

Last night a group of us went to Stove, it was a relatively late dinner around 8pm.  The place was pretty empty but not too surprising on a Sunday night.
The service was excellent.  A couple of us were late, but they were patient and did not mind repeating the specials to the latecomers.

We had the crab cake and ribs appetizers.   The ribs were very good and soft.  The sauce is a little thick but still yummy.  The crab cake was good, a little fishy, the salad that accompanied it was excellent.

Next came the entrees.  Three of us ordered the Shell Steak with Cognac Sauce, one seafood special with garlic herb, one pork chop and one shrimp scampi.  The shell steak was cooked perfectly (medium) and the sauce was amazing.  The pork chop was very tasty, well seasoned, tender and juicy.  It's a large cut of pork, so I expected the middle to be bland, but it wasn't.  The seafood special was very fresh.  Simple and delicious.  I didn't get to try the shrimp scampi but all of the plates were clean after.

We were all pretty happy and stuffed by now, but then the server came and said that all of the desserts were homemade.  We had the chocolate mousse, apple pie, bread pudding, and the Crème brûlée.  They were ALL AMAZING!  We ate all of it.

I give this place 4.5 stars.  Definitely going back.

It was Sunday morning and we wanted to have brunch. We ended up at Stove after looking up local brunch spots.

We walked in and was warmly greeted by the hostess. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful. He had the Eggs Benedict with french fries. I went with the Poached Eggs Royale and home fries. The portions were very generous. My poached eggs looked huge in comparision to the ones you get at a brunch spot in Manhattan. We both agreed that my poached egges with smoked salmon was the tastier dish. My home fries were alright but his french fries were good!

Nice cozy place for brunch. Service was attentive. Prices are very reasonable. Coffee and an alcoholic beverage (mimosa/bellini) are included in the price.

Checked this place out on a Wed night and it was just us and an older party who were probably taking advantage of the early bird special (kidding).

It's a small place, with an intimate setting.  It's located on a block with no other restaurants so you kind of have to be intentionally looking for this place otherwise you'd drive or walk right by it.

We started off with the onion soup since so many people mentioned it in their reviews.  It was good, but nothing crazy amazing.  I'd most likely try a different app next time.

For entrees we split the honey glazed pork chops which was served on top of what looked like house made warm applesauce, a side of veggies (this were actually really tasty with garlic and dried cranberries!) and choice of baked, mashed or fried potatoes or rice pilaf  The pork chop was DELISH!  Perfectly cooked and the glaze was sooo good.  I chose the rice pilaf - not good.

Our other entree was the sole stuffed with crab meat.  It also came with the same veggies and choice of starch.  It was good, but not as good as the pork chop!

Was too stuffed to try any of their desserts!

I've fallen behind in my posts as of late, but I'm back to write about Stove. We went in tonight and, surprisingly enough, it was fairly empty. Not sure why, but whatever.

I started with a goat cheese salad special with mango, which was really good. Well seasoned and just an interesting dish. My girlfriend had the tomato and mozzarella starter, which is her sort of go-to as a way of testing out places, and it was also pretty good.

For the main, I got the sole special, which was delicious. Light sole in a light sauce with mushrooms, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Really nice. My girlfriend got the trout, which was even better. Super tasty, really great flavor, and had a nice bit of garlic on it, which she really likes.

But yeah, just a nice easy dinner. Bonus points for having Smithwick's on tap, which I haven't seen all that much. I will absolutely be back for their Irish breakfast.

I wish I lived closer to Stove! It is super affordable and the food is quite good, simple, but solid (a place I can take my dad who is a simple eater). The fish and chips are my favorite (although, I swap out the fries for a baked potato)!! Their french onion soup is delicious and richly flavored, not watered down.  The husband had the trout, he said it was very good...just look out for the bones! I would really like to get over there for brunch one of these days...it's just a little bit out of the way..and I'm lazy when hungry on  weekend mornings (I'm ridiculous, I know!)

Decent food and service, nothing above average but nothing bad either.  On a recent Saturday night it was busy and very loud.  The place is simple, painted white walls, not much going on.  They do have Guinness and Blue Moon on tap which is good.  Although specials are often the freshest and recommended items on a menu, i'd pass from this place.  Both specials we had were tasty, but they were very expensive, especially for the informal style of the restaurant and when compared to the other items on the menu.  Its a few blocks north of the busy Steinway area, and it has a feel of a real local place, with a few large tables of friends and family.

The french onion soup was decent, not memorable at all.  They did not serve us bread although I noticed on the way out every other table had a bread basket.  For main courses the Shepherds pie was again decent, but not nearly as good as you can get at Cronin and Phelan.  Great value at $11, it a typical huge portion, however it came out a few minutes after the other entrees and was not quite broiled enough on the top.  One of the specials, Chicken in Whiskey Cream, was under-seasoned and a terrible value at $19, served with boiled vegetables and good mashed potatoes.  I had the fish special, sea bass with olive and sun dried tomatoes and a cream sauce.  The best dish of the night for sure.  The sea bass may have been a touch overcooked, but the sauce and veg topping were very tasty, good dish.  I would not have ordered it if I knew it was $24, more than double most of the items on the regular dinner entree menu.

Service was ok, she was a touch cold, we waited a bit long for the good and it did not come out at the same time.  Value was mixed, some items well priced (soup, Shepherds Pie) but the specials being way over priced.  I'll give this place one more shot.

Stove is one of the closest restaurants to our apartment, and we've been going there for years. It's a great little place, if not a bit...odd. The owner/chef is Irish and they have some traditional Irish fare, but the rest of the menu is straight from 1972. It is very old fashioned, and if you get there before 7 pm it's full of senior citizens. However, don't let that throw you off. The service is great, the atmosphere is welcoming, and food is solid. Honestly, I haven't had one thing I didn't like.

Best things? Shepherd's pie and a pint of Guinness. They pour their Guinness perfectly here, and the Shepherd's pie is chock full of delicious meaty flavor. Fish and chips is also outstanding. I'm a huge fan of their double cut pork chop. My husband got the trout the other night and it was really good as well. As for apps, you cannot go wrong with the ribs. They are fall-off-the-bone tender. The thing that they miss on is vegetables and salads. All their salads are loaded up with cheese, and the vegetable sides are usually covered in butter. It's just not a veggie kind of place.

They have something very old school on the dessert menu, which is a chocolate mousse. I could eat about 12 of them. Not to be missed.

Excellent food. Service was good, they did not rush us through our meal and checked on us several times to ensure that everything was as ordered. The food was well priced for the quality. I had the hanger steak and my partner had the shell steak, both were cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The fries with my steak were a little disappointing, the kind of fries I would expect at a diner or in the frozen food section of a supermarket but ok. Chocolate mousse was delicious, creme brulee was good although the sugary crust was TOO BURNT, the sugary crust was inedible but the custard was yummy. Definitely would come back.

I've decided you should not go there.  Here's why:

When I was in High School, my friend Megan gave me a CD of this band called "Gus", which was awesome.  I immediately started sharing that with all my other friends, who immediately thought Gus was awesome, and so they immediately played them for THEIR friends, and Gus became SO heard of, they had to change their name to Guster, and now everyone knows who they are and they're not even a trio anymore (they're a quartet) and I don't even know how that happened because by the time I'd graduated I had stopped listening to them.

So please.  While I want Stove to do well with the business of people other than me and Fiance, I don't want anyone to love them EXCEPT me and Fiance so they won't ever change their name to Guster and make us feel neglected.

I went here for Brunch with my brother and sister-in-law. We were tired of the standard diner brunch on Sunday and were looking for something a little more refined. We hit the jackpot here.

The menu items are simple american breakfast/brunch fare but were prepared perfectly. They give you a complementary drink (Bloody Mary, Mimosa, or Screwdriver) with Sunday brunch. Many times such drinks are either too strong or too weak. The bartender prepared ours with a perfect balance. I ordered the steak and eggs. My eggs were perfect. Runny in the center with crispy edges. Mmmm.

My only complaint is that the use onion in the corned beef hash. Its not really a complaint as it i not their fault that I don't like onions. They say they prepare everything fresh so it is only fitting that onions would be present.

I will be going here again.

There are certain people who can complain about anything. Like Byron Hadley (of Shawshank infamy). He inherited a large sum of money, and whined about the taxes and the hassle that came with it. If I was Captain Hadley, I imagine I could find plenty of things to complain about while dining at Stove:

Our waitress is so damn cheerful; what the Christ is this happy horseshit? This menu is too tempting; we're going to have to order the baked clams, the mussels, AND the ribs to start. Stove: reaching into your shirt and squeezing your tit till it's purple. Ah, damn them for having one filet special left. Now I HAVE to get it. White wine? Ugh. Drink up while it's cold, ladies.

Goddamnit! The appetizers taste fantastic. Now I've got to finish every last bit, and it's going to spoil my entree. Oh, this is bullshit; my filet is perfectly cooked. Everyone's going to be begging me for some. And who are these assholes I'm with who want to let me taste everything? They're probably trying to kill me, feeding me this the delicious pork chop, the amazing shell steak AND the baked salmon.

Did you see this check? This meal is entirely too reasonable. Who do they think they are, charging these prices? Now all my other meals are going to seem expensive and mediocre. I'm sick of this Stove place.

I did not want to do naked cartwheels like some Yelpers, but I did enjoy my meal. There was just something amiss...

We went on a Friday night. We had a failed attempt at Kebab Cafe- didn't have any cash on us, so we wandered a bazillion blocks out of our way to go to Stove because Hubby so sweetly remembered-I've had Stove on my bookmark list since we moved here in 2007.

We sat down and the waitress started rattling off specials, which I hate-maybe this was the turnoff point in the night. Servers who rattle off specials like a robot are about as exciting as having sex with someone who won't.stop.talking.

Mid-coitus I have been tempted to find a sock on the bedroom floor and stuff it into the mouths of former lovers for talking to much during sex. We're talking like full on life story between the sheets. Just because I'm getting to know you biblically doesn't mean I need you to tell me a story as long as the Bible.

Hi, I'm trying to get off her. Could you stop babbling!? The only words I want to hear are "oh god!" and a little "oh yeah, right there!" Sexy time is not the time to tell your life story. Neither is when I sit down at a restaurant. Thank you! I'm sure you stuffed cabbage is phenomenal and your braised whatever the hell you were talking about is nice, but couldn't you just write it down and let me read?

Other than this rant about the specials, here is what I can say-
The fried calamari was cooked well-not too rubbery
The steak w/sauce was alright. The cut of steak wasn't fabulous, but the brandy sauce made up for it.
The meal was relatively cheap since we had drinks, an app and 2 entrees.

Perhaps the problem with Stove was me and not them, but you know....perception is reality.

    INCREDIBLE!!!

Had dinner at this place which is located in my neighborhood. I had heard good reviews about this place, but never went. The food was incredible, the prices are reasonable for the neighborhood.

This restaurant is continental european type food, the owner comes from Ireland and studied at a culinary institute, out there. He moved to France and worked in restaurants out there. He came to the US and worked at Windows on the World and another place called Kennedy's in Manhattan...Finally, he opened his own establishment.

I started out with the beet and goat cheese salad...medallions of goat cheese on top of sliced beets, this was accompanied by julienned slivers of apple and pear with a drizzle of balsamic vinigarette. The salad was tart and sweet at the same time, but both flavors complimented each other very nicely

The entree was a double cut pork chop with a bourbon glaze accompanied by applesauce that was mixed with chunks of apples, golden raisins and a dash of cinnamon...a baked potato and fresh vegetable medley accompanied the pork chop. It was a hearty meal, and it left me feeling satisfied. The pork wasn't greasy and the apple compote was the perfect compliment to the meat.

I just had to have the chocolate mousse for dessert...chocolate mousse with a hint of some kind of coffee liqueur, maybe kahlua with real cream as a topping, none of that stuff that squirts out of a canister.

I hardly ever go out to eat like this, but lately more and more bistro type restaurants are opening up around the neighborhood, and the prices are pretty reasonable.

This place also has a Sunday brunch that people rave about.

After finishing my scrumptious meal, I was told that this is the best kept secret in Astoria, and I think that may be something to that.  The location doesn't do much to reveal that secret.  It's nestled in a small set of stores in a very residential on the borders of Astoria and Woodside.  Please don't let the location sway you however, the food, hospitality, and atmosphere are worth the trek.

When we first arrived we sat out in the out door patio.  It seemed to me a perfect spot to have a pint and a small dinner.  But after looking at the menu, I knew I wasn't going to let a simple thing like not being hungry stop me from gorging myself.  3 Beers, soup, appetizer, entree and desert later, I was completely awed by everything presented to me.  Delicious, deceptively simple fare and a warm environment.

I plan on becoming a regular.

Stove is quite possibly my favorite Astoria restaurant. The staff is knowledge, friendly, and fun. They have Guinness and Smithwick's on tap, among a couple others, and the food is amazing.

I love the barbecue rib appetizer and smoked salmon with capers and toast wedges is good, as well. I've had or tried almost all of their entrees and enjoyed them all; there's not a single disappointment on the menu. Everything is flavored, balanced and cooked just right. The chicken Kiev and pork chops stand out in my mind as particularly good choices. They also have daily specials like bacon wrapped scallops and Shepard's pie (so good!). The brunch options are delicious and a great deal. Their eggs Benedict is among my top three favorites.

Took my girlfriend and her parents here when they flew into the city to visit.  I live half a block away and we were all pretty exhausted from traversing the city all day, so we decided to go here instead of head back downtown.  I was taking a pretty big chance since I had not been to Stove prior.

Stove knocked it out of the park.  The menu is made up of Irish, English, German and (maybe) French cuisine - just really good comfort food.  Portions were just right.  Prices were more than reasonable.  The Irish bartender (and manager/owner?) was very, very kind to us.

I love this place.  Can't wait to visit again in the spring when they open the back patio up!

Cute little restaurant with good food. A solid date place in Astoria.

I went for brunch today and had the corned beef hash with home fries and scrambled eggs, mimosa, and coffee. It was a solid 3.5 *s, but I rounded it up to 4 *s for a few different reasons.

    1) The restaurant has an intimate vibe.

    2) Solid good food, sorely needed in that area of Astoria (the only other restaurant of this caliber is Bistro Les Minots).

    3) Served me warm toast in a basket with a lovely cloth napkin to keep it warm! I know it's just toast, but little touches like that make elevate the toast to a more refined eating experience.

    4) They put in a good amount of champagne into my mimosa. :) (Seriously, nothing more disappointing than a bad mimosa because there's too little alcohol.)

    5) Best brunch deal in Astoria, in my opinion. My corned beef hash brunch with the complimentary drink (your choice of mimosa, screwdriver, Bloody Mary, coffee, or tea) was $10. I ordered coffee on top of my mimosa and with tax, it came out to $13.07. All other brunch deals run $15 or more, so even with paying extra for coffee, it was cheaper at Stove.

I thought the fluffy scrambled eggs and home fries were lovely. I discovered I'm not a corned beef hash person, but still, I ate every bite. Coffee wasn't that good (not bad, but also not good), so definitely get the alcohol as your complimentary brunch drink. Stove is definitely a one of the better brunch places in Astoria and worth a visit if you live in the area.

Also, they have an outdoor patio in the back, so when it gets warmer, there'll be outdoor seating!

I've had this on my "to try" list ever since I moved to Astoria.

That was 2 years ago. Whoops.

We finally made it in last month. Parking sucks anywhere in that area, and we would have walked but it was raining a bit, and after a couple laps trying to find parking, it started to POUR. By the time we walked into Stove, we were literally soaked to the bone. I'm talking, "Hi, I just jumped in the pool in my clothing, table for 2 please" wet. When they saw us, they immediately offered towels and asked if there was anything they could do to make us more comfortable. They then sat us at a nice table for 2, which was small enough to be romantic and cozy, but large enough that we didn't have to stack our dishes on top of another and ask them to take the candle off in order to make room for our wine glasses (you know what I'm talking about). It was just right.

Our server was awesome (EDIT: Her name was ROBYN. Confirmed! And Robyn, if you are reading, this...we are the ones who left you Pez with your tip). Anyhoo, she was great! She went with our jokes, but wasn't annoying (fine line with this in restaurant service). She also helped my ultra-indecisive self choose what to order (Honey glazed double-cut pork chop with bourbon apple compote...more on this in a minute), and checked on us just enough. The only thing that irked us even a little bit, was the OTHER server girl who seemed like it was the last thing on Earth she wanted to be doing when I asked her to please fill my water. Jeez, sorrrry.

The food was amazing. I'll admit that we are very hard to please and I will scrutinize anything that's not damn near perfect. Because of the raving reviews, we decided to take risks and ordered dishes that we are very particular about and still, not one thing about the food disappointed us.

We started with the mussels, which were perfect - large, plump and in the type of sauce that you order extra bread to sop it up with. I got the pork-chop, which is something atypical for me to order in a restaurant, since I prefer how I make it myself...but I honestly don't think that I could mimic what they did with this piece of meat. It tasted so homemade yet so gourmet at the same time. The fresh veggies (string beans that night) were cooked PERFECTLY.

My dining companion ordered one of the specials that night: Goulash. I was very nervous about this, considering how picky he is about certain foods (he will ONLY eat certain foods from certain places or cooked by certain people....goulash is one of them). He took one bite and gave me the raised eyebrow "I can't believe this is actually good" look. Score again.

I was beyond full after the app and entree, but of course she then tells me about dessert (made fresh daily). One of them was pumpkin pie, so I unlocked my 2nd stomach and piled it in. Amazing.

I need to get back there and explore more of the menu, because it all looks so delicious. I'd also love to try brunch. Updates to come...especially if I could remember that girl's freaking name.

*By the way, for anyone who has visited their website, but not in awhile...you may remember it used to kinda....suck. It's recently revamped and WAY better.*

This is one of the best date places in Astoria. Our waitress was really great and helpful for choosing food and drink. The salmon I got was some of the best salmon I have ever had - great flavor and texture. The sides also definitely complimented the meal; I recommend the root vegetable medley if it's the vegetable of the day.

The decor was not interesting to me, which was a bit disappointing, and the music was popular music from the 90s, which was amusing but not necessarily a good fit with the restaurant, in my opinion.

However, I would definitely come back here for a nice meal!
