Came on a weekend for the first time and almost got stamped by the crowd! It was madness here! I mean, how good is this place anyways??

    Uh, sooo freaking good!!!!
Minus the craziness and long lines, the food and service is superb! I really like the fact that it's nice and dimmed inside though. Not sure if I'm loving the whole concept of ordering...

I got the Stonefire's BBQ Chopped Signature Salad. I had the Mesquite BBQ Tri Tip with Mixed Greens, Roasted Corn, Carrots, Red Cabbage, Cilantro and Jack Cheese. It's tossed with Tortilla Strips and Buttermilk Ranch and topped with Tomato and Scallions! Yumm!!
The plate was huge! Nice entree portion good for two people, but I devour that thing myself because I was starving! The tortilla strips gave it a nice crunch and the ranch gave it great flavor. However, the Tri Tip was the Mack Daddy of this dish! Moist and pure succulent!
The boyfriend had the 1/2 Slab Baby Back Ribs that came with Caesar Salad and Bread sticks. Honestly, I'm not a BBQ kind of girl, but this place changed my mind! I had some of the Baby Back Ribs and it was so juicy and rich with flavor! It slide right off the bone and it's full of meat.

This is a great hang out spot for friends and family. I don't doubt the rest of the menu is just as tasteful as what we had.

OK, so categorizing Stonefire as a BBQ restaurant, a pizza joint, or whatever, then comparing them with restaurants that actually specialize in those items (Lucille's, Luggage Room, etc.) seems a bit unfair. Actually, I don't really know how to categorize Stonefire myself, but I don't get the impression that they're targeting the enthusiasts of certain foods.

To me, Stonefire is like an office complex cafeteria in a more social yet informal atmosphere. A wide variety of good but not quite spectacular food, where it's the convenience of said variety available to you that is the selling point. Hope I didn't make it sound like their food is mediocre, because so far, everything's been pretty tasty.

The dining room is of a pretty good size, with tables for larger groups as well - possibly good for something like a child's birthday party.

The tri-tip and ribs are definitely my favorites, both tender and full of flavor. Not exactly what you'd get at actual BBQ restaurants (Phil's, Gus's, etc), but still enjoyable for what it is. Have had some of the salads and pizzas as well, all pretty solid.

Service has been good to great, especially considering that Stonefire categorizes themselves as a fast-casual concept. You can often find the crew scouting around the dining area, checking to see if everything's been good, if you needed refills, etc. One time, I ordered a Cobb Salad minus bleu cheese (as I hate bleu cheese). Cobb Salad came out, but had bleu cheese in it... and they actually took back the perfectly good salad to replace it with something that catered to my dumb demands. Should they have gotten the order correctly the first time? Yes. But for them to notice the error and offer me a new salad, while I was still pondering whether or not to just suck it up and eat the bleu cheese? I think that deserves some recognition.

Anyhow, it's a place worth returning to. It's definitely the kind of establishment that would work well in East Pasadena (opposed to Old Town for example), so hopefully they can keep it up.

    *** UPDATED ***

changing 2 stars to 4 bc Justin (manger) replied to my review the very next day and apologized for the bad service  =)

this review is on the service.

Oh no Stonefire, you were once one of my favorite lunch spots but my last two visits were not very pleasant. =(

I ordered take out on Tuesday, food was delish as always. Two things bothered me about this visit.

#1- the guy that helped me with my order was not very tentative. He seemed distracted and more concerned about the party next to me than taking my payment for my meal. I held out my cash in my hand for a good minute before he even realized it. More like until he was finished listening to the other party order their food.

#2- I was in a hurry to get back to work, I didn't get a chance to check if everything I needed was in my bag. (usually everything is there) I got back to work to find out I had no utensils =/

Disappointed about my last visit, I decided to give it a 2nd chance. Mostly bc I have always had awesome experiences. Perhaps it was just one of those days.

Today, I had to run a quick errand during lunch and decided to stop by and pick up a salad. Thinking it wouldn't take that long since it's only a salad. So, instead of ordering ahead like I always do, I ordered on site.

Serious craving for my favorite Greek salad, I ordered a medium for the first time. I sat and waited for my food. I sat for 40 minutes! At first I figured they were just busy and were backed up until I realized that most of the cashiers were just standing around. I got up and asked one of the cashiers to check on my order. Come to find out, my order had been ready all along and no one bothered to inform me. Lesson learned from last time, I check my order. My size medium looks like a size small. I asked the cashier if this was the correct size and he informs me the small and the medium are very similar in size. I was only a tad bit annoyed about them not informing me my food was ready but now I'm just annoyed. If I am going to pay double the price of a small salad, I think the size should be bigger by at least 20 bites. The box is only half full which in reality is a small. And to top it off, the cashier that helped me took out everything in my bag and after he answered my questions just took off, leaving everything laying out on the counter. =I already late to return from my lunch break, I decided to just forget about it and head back.

I'm pretty sad about my last two visits and probably won't be coming back anytime soon.

I love Stonefire Grill. I think I've tried just about everything on the menu. The best things are the tri tip which is comparable to Wood Ranch and the Garlic chicken which is always moist and falling off the bone. Even the salmon is pretty good. The salads are plentiful and the breadsticks are great. They also have the best brownies for around 3 bucks. Its a huge brownie that is fudgy and moist, almost like a flourless chocolate cake. Soo good! Carrot cake is just meh for me. The pizzas are ok. We usually stick to pepperoni and sausage which are sliced little discs of cooked sausage. Service has always been friendly for both dine in and take out. The family deals are reasonable and you get plenty of food for your buck.

The food here is really great.  When it's right.

I've never had any problems when we've eaten in the restaurant, but the past 4 times my husband and I have ordered to-go, there have been issues with our order (we do take-out from Stonefire once every 7-10 days).
I've been billed for the wrong order, sent home with the wrong dressing, with the wrong sandwich, without our order of breadsticks, and today without avocado on my South of the Border salad. I paid for avocado. I want my avocado....it's part of why I love that salad so much.
Sadly, I think it's time for my husband and I to say goodbye to Stonefire Grill and find a new salad and sandwich spot for those rushed weeknight dinners.

My bottom line: if you're eating in, go for it! Their food is excellent, especially for the price. If you're ordering take-out, use caution and be sure check your order and receipt VERY thoroughly for accuracy and to make sure they include everything you're paying for.

It's so yummy here! Love love love the Trip Tip and Mac and Cheese and Mashed Potatoes. I just want to order everything!

Came here with the boyfriend and his bff few months ago. Got a small salad, half rack of ribs, tri tips, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. It was so much food! Don't go by the suggested serving size listed on the menu, it serves much more people than it says. I've been to Wood Ranch and even Phil's BBQ in San Diego, but this place is by far my favorite BBQ place. Not a fan of ribs in general but the tri tip was so juicy and flavorful! And the mac and cheese, I wish I could just eat it every day. They have a pretty large selections of pastas, pizzas, salads, and of course meat.

You order at the front, then they'll give you a number, pick a seat, get your plates and utensils and wait for your order to be brought. Friendly services, overall. Pricing is not cheap, but a lot of Baby Back Ribs shacks are not cheap. Great quality food worth the price you pay. I will be back for more!

Quaint place to stop by for lunch or dinner.  Different style of ordering from the menu items which you do as soon as you walk into the door, somewhat unconventional from the traditional "sit down" restaurants.  Practically like a Pat & Oscars set up.  After paying for your order, they bestow a number badge to you and then freely choose wherever you may want to sit in any available seating.  Eventually your food will be brought out to your table.  I have eaten here several times and tried out several menu items.  Their pizza is of average quality and taste, nothing to rave about but nothing to deter me from coming back either.  Their tri-tip is definitely a must have which is juicy and succulent.  Ensure that you do have enough of the sauce that accompanies it which accents the flavor of the meat even further.  Their steak and cheese sandwich may sound simplistic but I would have to admit that it is a burst of flavor and a mouthful of deliciousness.  Mash potatoes are also a staple of this establishment having slight garlic and cheese have been incorporated into the mixture.  I am a meat a potato sort of guy so the salad portion of their menu I can not comment upon.  But the girlfriend swears by the Cartwheel Salad therefore take it for what it is worth. Overall a good experience and would recommend for anyone to try out.

Came here based on the 4 star rating on yelp and left not understanding why this place actually has 4 stars if that makes any sense. I give this place maybe 2.5 stars, but Yelp has still not initiated 1/2 stars.

Ordered a full slab with side of bread sticks and mashed potatoes. The ribs were alright, 3 stars max, but certainly nothing to write home about. As far as the sides, the mashed potatoes were also only worth 3 stars and this considering they came out cold. As far as their garlic bread sticks, they tasted stale and without a hint of garlic. Even Olive garden has better bread sticks than this place.

The thing that disappointed me the most was their barbecue sauce. They only have one variety and it isn't even that good. For a joint that serves ribs, etc, your sauce has to be over the top. To the management: Improve your BBQ sauce, maybe get a couple varieties such as spicy and mild, instead of  spending money on the Pier 1 decorations. Oh and one more thing, please place signs indicating where the main entrance and restrooms are.

Will I ever return, not sure yet, but don't hold your breath.

We met up with my niece and her hubby and nephew for dinner on a Tuesday evening.  They asked if we had ever been to Stonefire Grill.  They said the food was good and they liked the  casual atmosphere. Great suggestion.

We thought about ordering one of the family dinners, but decided there wouldn't be enough ribs to go around for 3 hungry guys.  In the end, we decided to order individually.  I had leftovers which was perfect for lunch the following day.

All of us ordered the baby back rib/tri tip combo except for my niece who ordered a half slab of baby back ribs.  Each dinner is served with your choice of salad (greek, cesar or ?) and 2 breadsticks.  We decided to order an extra side of mac and cheese (hubby's favorite) and for me the garlic mashed potatoes.  My niece suggested we order an extra order of breadsticks as well.  The breadsticks were warm and buttery and garlicky.  Yumm.....

The ribs were moist, tender and flavorful.  (they practically fell off the bone)  In my opinion,  there is no comparison between the ribs from Lucille's and Stonefire Grill.    Stonefire Grill gets my vote.  The tri tip was cooked to perfection.  The mac and cheese was nice and creamy.  I thought the mashed potatoes were just a little on the dry side, but no major complaints.

The portions are healthly so I haven't had room to check out their desserts.  I've read the carrot cake and brownie are the best.  Maybe one day I'll have to skip the entree and go straight to the dessert menu.

Lunch specials are great! Tri tip, Cesar salad and bread stick for just about $6! Take that $5 foot long.

I have been here a few times now, food is consistently good. Cesar salad is excellent. Tri tip is tasty both ways they offer. Salmon is delish.. Good Pizza. Not your traditional restaurant. Items served family style.. Order ahead of time like you are at a Sizzler. Get your own drink and plates. Sit anywhere you'd like. Quick tip? Tri-tip!!! Delicioso :) AND BREADSTICKS!! so good..

The first time I had stonefire grill was at the Irvine location. I went on Friday nights and there was always open tables.. How the system works is you walk in, and you see giant menus scattered across the front before the cashier. It's kinda like corner bakery where you order beforehand, then seat yourself wherever you want. You put the number they give you on the little stand and you wait. And wait...

Then the food arrives and you either be super satisfied, or content.
Reasoning for 3ish stars was because the ribs we ordered were overcooked and dry..the one I had tried in Irvine was cooked just perfectly and tender with the right amount of sauce. We had ordered the family portion so it came with 12 breadsticks and a humongous bowl of salad, and we also got the Tri-Tip. Tri-tip is hands down my favorite here, chicken.. not so much. Its moist and tender, and seasoned perfectly too! If you come try, the two things i would get for sure is breadsticks and tri-tip!

Besides the food, the staff here was super friendly and welcoming. Didn't have to deal with them much besides when ordering and getting our food. Everything else is pretty much self-serve. So I can't exactly rate based off the staff here.

Oh! One last note, tip..? Not sure how the system works.. but the first time, we didnt know whether to leave tip or not on the table because we had already paid and everything up front.. I guess its really up to you because they have a tip jar up front when you order.. and i never see people leave tip on the table, but we did because we were confused and felt bad because the employees were still serving/cleaning up after us.. so i guess its based off of how generous you feel.

    P.S. TRI TIP AND BREADSTICKS!!

    Great service AND great food!

I originally saw this place because I stopped by Shoguns for a quick sushi fix, but the long lines outside of this place appealed to me. So I went on Yelp, read the reviews, and told myself I would come here the next time I was in the area.

I finally had the chance to do so and I was impressed! You would order your food at the front, find your own seating, and they bring the food to you. Everything, from plates to soda fountain drinks to bbq sauces, are left in one section of the dining area so you can get up and get whatever you need whenever you needed it.

The breadsticks were warm and perfect. They're also reasonably priced!

The mash potato had a great taste and was a little chunky, just how I like it.

As for the bbq, it was great. It really is a good alternative to Lucille's BBQ if I'm not in close range to Lucille's.

I also recommend their Stonefire Grill Favorite Pizza. The combination of the flavors is perfect; I just wish it had meat on it.

Number 1, BBQ involves Wood and there is no Wood Here. Now that that's out of the way. Heard about Stonefire and was affraid it was a New Healthy Choice Trendy place for Yuppies and Wanna Be Barbeque Lovers. I was both Right and Wrong. I don't think the exclusion of Smoke makes this Not BBQ. We ordered a Full Rack of Baby Backs, Half a Tri-Tip Roast (Garlic Herb) and Half a Chicken (Lemon Garlic) an order of Cheesy Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Beans and Grilled Veggies with Feta.
The Tri-Tip was Tender and Juicy, The Chicken was OUTSTANDING. Most places screw up slow cooked chicken and make it dry and inedible. This was just Tender Juicy Goodness. The Copious amounts of Garlic and Fresh Lemon made this Chicken one of the Best I have found at a Grill. The Ribs w/o Smoke were tender, fall off the Bone and Sweet. The sauce is perfect for the Baked Ribs. Any more Aggressive and it would over power the subtle flavors of the Pork. I like a Rib that come away clean but still has good mouth feel. This was on Point. The Sides were all Really Good. The Mashed Potatoes gave me Goose bumps. I have to figure out how to make them myself. Beans were Good and really Meaty. Veggies with Feta, grilled to perfection. The Surprise was the Brownie. Don't Pass it Up. Buy it, Eat It. Love it
For a Non Traditional Barbeque Establishment Stonefire Grill hit a Triple at First Bat. Service was a little concerning but the Food more than made up for the slow service. With Robin's Right Next Door. Time will tell which place Pasadena wants to Support. Stonefire was Hopping and Robin's was Slow.
Give it a Chance and Look beyond Purism.
    P.S.
I was contacted by Someone at Stonefire that informed me they use Mesquite to cook their meats. They didn't specify if it was Wood or Charcoal but they wanted to make sure everyone knew that Wood was involved. I suggested More and different Woods, But the fact that the Meats were Delicious did not change.

If you like your ribs boiled, then grilled as a measure just to heat the food rather than to comprise the completeness of the BBQ experience, this is the place for you.

What comes to my mind when I think of BBQ is slow-cooked brisket, ribs, hot links, homemade coleslaw and potato salad -- just a hearty meal.  So when my friend introduced me to this place and said it was "good" bbq, I was excited to sink my teeth into some brisket.  But once we got there, their menu was not what I expected.

WARNING: DO NOT EXPECT YOUR FOOD TO LOOK LIKE THE PICTURES.

I only ordered the Fresh Salmon (Broiled with your choice of Sesame Glazed or Lemon Garlic)  and the Tri- Tip (Cracked Pepper Garlic topped with Gorgonzola butter)and Ribs Combo because the picture made it look really yummy. The plate  was full, clean, and well presented. Well when we got out food, the presentation was pure CRAP. I feel like the chef was playing some kind of hey-let's-try- to-catch-with-the-plate-while-i- throw- the-food-in-air game. COngratulation you caught it...now clean it up! Our plate was so messy looking. I know Im here to get my fingers dirty, but I want to see my plate nicely presented before I get down an dirty.

Salmon was okay...nothing special. The ribs were actually pretty good, fell right off the bone, good sauce. The tri-tip was HORRIBE...medium rare became SUPER WELL DONE and was so dry. I literally finished my drinks before I was halfway done.

I felt the meal was extremely pricey for the quality of the food. $14.99 for the meat combo and $11.99 for the Glazed Salmon....portion was small..

Honestly if time isn't an issue, you could do better smothering your own rack of ribs with a bottle of sweet baby rays. Actually, I wouldn't mind drive out 15-20 miles to go to Lucilles, or even 2 hours to Phil's. This place is highly NOT recommended to any of my friends.

Went for a quick dinner before dancing saturday night.  Place is packed.  But we order and get a table and get served in about 10 minutes!!  Salads and meats are SO amazingly good.  Great for the diet...just have to tell them to hold the bread sticks on my 'individual meal' or they WILL be eaten!  Always so pleased with this place.  BTW....I don't know why people think of this as a "BBQ" restaurant??!!  Okay..they do have tri-tip or chicken or ribs with a BBQ sauce.  But they have pizza and pasta and the most amazing salads.  And the chicken and tri tip are avaialble with garlic instead of BBQ sauce.  So it's just not my idea of a 'BBQ Joint'....like the fatty, unhealthy places in Texas where they are only serving meat and potatoes and rolls with some overcooked veges.

I came here after searching around on yelp for what good to eat in Pasadena.
I have to give it a  5-stars for the excellent service. Attentive staff, and food came out quick.
I would give a 4-stars for  the food. I ordered the tri-tip and my bf ordered the ribs. Food was decent, my tri-tip was moist and soft, but it's sort of plain to my taste, it could have been better if it came out a little bit hotter. I can't say anything for the ribs, because I'm not a ribs' fan. My boyfriend said it was alright, but did agree that it could have come out hotter.
Overall I do enjoy the visit there.

Friends have been telling me about this restaurant for sometime and I finally went for the first time last Tuesday.  I really love that are various sizes of everything so you can share if you want.  We ordered a small, Stonefire's BBQ chopped salad for $8.49 which was so good, BBQ beef sandwich $6.99 which my husband really liked and he's pretty picky, half basket of breadsticks (6 for $2.79), 7 inch cheese pizza for $4.99 on the Kid's Meals, small order of Garlic mashed potatoes  for $2.99 and drinks.  They also serve beer and wine and I had a great chilled glass of white wine which was very good.  I hate to be redundant and rate a lot of restaurants 5 stars, but I really did love this place.  It is in Hastings Ranch near the Ethan Allen store.  I am sure I'll be checking in and eating there quite regularly unless something changes for the worse.

I'm so glad I stumbled on this! I was looking for something that would fit with a casual place were my friends and I could relax and eat good as well as celebrate my b-day with my girlfriend. I've been also looking for a good BBQ place and was hoping this could bit the 'two birds with one stone' hope.

You can request for a table and they'll get it set up if they don't have one, you go up to the cashier, order, pay, and get your order number. Sit at a table, or a set table, and stick your order number card in the holder. They bring the food out to you. If you have several couples, or orders, they tell you what number they're bringing out.

They Tri Tip was moist and favorful. Although, I do prefer the horseradish off to the side and extra Au Jus, it came out how I would think steaks/meats come out. The BBQ short ribs were tender and tasty. I ask a waiter for sauce and he got it for me (I was walking out and saw I could've gotten it myself) but he never made me feel bad for asking. I was very happy at the service, even though they were pulled away at times and I had to get up and hunt someone down. LOL.

Parking lot was full on Saturday night, but it didn't take too lone to find one. We waited about 20-30 mins with a party of 6 (they would tell you when it was OK to pop into the line to order).

Special Deal: The cashier mentioned there's a deal for 2 that worked out as a good deal. I'm not sure the exact name. I would just ask for the full slab dinner for 2 deal. U get a full slab of BBQ short ribs, 2 salads, and a 4pc of garlic bread sticks (so good btw) for 3-4 dollars more than the price of just a full slab of ribs @19.99). Can't recall the exact price as I paid for a couple of other orders.

I craving as I'm writing this... Maybe I should order for Take Out now. LOL

Their garlic bread sticks are so good! Grilled bbq meats, pizza, sandwiches, giant bowls of salads, and desserts, this place just has it all.  The service staff on the night that we went was efficient and friendly.  The atmosphere of the restaurant was lively with people and their conversations .

Overall, a pretty good restaurant.  If you like meat and bbq, and don't want to pay too much for it, this might be your kind of place.  However, if you don't like meat, there's a chance that you will still like this place.  If you like both meat and salads, this place should surely be the perfect place for you.

    Stonefire my love, what happened?

You used to thrill me with your dishes.  My heart would skip a beat thinking about the succulent Tri Tip smothered in that delicious pepper garlic butter.  Whisper words of Lemon Garlic Chicken in my ear, I start to see fireworks and get all warm.  This wasn't mere infatuation.  It was an obsession.

Six months later, everything's changed.  I just don't know you anymore, Stonefire!  You gave me a platter of cold Tri Tip.  The piddly little pat of garlic butter sat on the meat like a rejected prom date.  It was just a sad, sad lump that refused to melt.  The Lemon Garlic Chicken brought tears to my eyes.  Not tears of joy but tears from too much coughing.  The meat was D-R-Y and it was stuck in my throat.  There was no lemon.  There was no garlic.  There was no taste.  How could you be so cruel and make my taste buds cry?

The magic's gone and I'm moving on.  I'll leave you with three stars since we did have some great eats in the past.

Went here for lunch and had the Lemon Garlic Chicken which was so moist, juicy and lots of flavor.  This dish had a little too much garlic for me but all I had to do was take some off the top and I was happy :)

My friend had the baby back ribs and it did not dissapoint.  It was pretty much fall off the bone kinda rib.  I notice the dishes here are pretty substantial - enough to share, like family style.  The prices are also very reasonable for what you get.  The service was also very good.  It's self serve as far as drinks, utensils, paper goods, etc. but you can always find someone if you need anything at all.

The next time I come back, I will definitely bring more people with me.  That way, we can order more food and have a little of everything!

First time, the food was awesome. We actually cleaned our plates.
Second time we went it was a Sunday, not packed but more people than the first time we went. The food was not as good, ribs were rushed out raw!!! It was a good thing my sister caught that...
HELLO, we were served RAW PORK...
Once they bring your food out to you, they pretty much forget about you and the dessert you ordered. I ordered a piece of carrot cake and was never brought out until i had to flag out a rushing server..
it's a strange service type place, I'm always confused if I should tip or not and who am i tipping and why? You order and you serve your own drinks, silverware, plates and napkin's just drop off your food..so  should I tip for that?
I gave it 3 stars because of the great first experience...
    I don't think we'll be back...

How did this place get 4 stars?

I've never been to a casual BBQ place where they ask you how you want your meat cooked. I asked for my tri tip and ribs medium. Good thing I didn't ask for anything more cooked, it was already done as is.

I asked for the sauce on the side so I could try the smokey flavor. What smokey flavor? Everything tasted boiled and then grilled.

The ambiance was that of a Pat and Oscars. Plates, drinks, and to go boxes are all self service.

I would not come back, even if it was to try something else.

    Simply love this place!
The BBQ sauce is more on the sweet side, which I like.

DINING IN: Order, pay, and sit down. They will bring your food out to you and you have access to BBQ sauce and free refills on Pepsi brand sodas and iced tea.

CATERING: We've also tried their catering as well. We ordered  Chicken & Tri-Tip and they told us it feeds up to 20 people (2 tri-tips, 2 salads, 2 chickens + bread sticks) and we got 2 pizzas as well, but it actually wasn't that much food.
It feeds about 12 people. Yes, Americans know how to eat!! (P.S. The manager has contacted me regarding this, and not sure who my aunt talked to when she placed our ordered, but this won't mean we won't be catering with them again)

SALADS: My favorites are the Stonefire's BBQ Chopped Chicken salad and I also like the Cartwheel salad and the Cilantro Vinaigrette that it comes with.
    (PHOTO: http://www.yelp.com/bi...)

If I have to recommend ONE thing, it's their Mesquite BBQ Tri-tip (so tender!)
I prefer the BBQ one over the Pepper Garlic with Gorgonzola Butter.

All I can say is I'm glad we stumbled upon this place instead of going to Robin's Wood Fired BBQ. Stepping into this place, you can already tell it's not your traditional BBQ joint. You order your food at the counter first, take a number, and they will bring it to your table. All drinks are fountain. There are also some items on the menu like pizza and

GET the TRI-TIP!!! For the price, it's good. The meat is tender and juicy (luckily), and the homemade BBQ sauce is commendable. Almost all meals come with their signature bread sticks which are to die for. Haha.

This place is a good family joint. The environment is lively. The staff is friendly, and the service is great.

I was really impressed with the tri-tip at Stonefire Grill.  Having been my first visit, I did not really know what to expect.  The tri-tip was incredibly tender and moist.  Although I chose to have my tri-tip medium rare when given the option, it came out more medium than anything.  The amazing thing was that the tri-tip was still very tender and moist.  I also enjoyed the Cartwheel salad with the cilantro dressing.

This establishment is in desperate need of an identity. I'm not exactly sure what they are trying to portray. Sure it's got the fancy, dressed up waiters, and hardwood floors and stone/marble all around, but then outside it's got metal chairs, and a more laid-back environment. As for their menu, it's kind of weird, and not exactly what I could "BBQ". Funny enough, I had no clue this was a BBQ place until someone told me on the way out.

Their food was average, I got the BBQ beef sandwich and the meat wasn't exactly great. My friend told me they have great tri-tip -- I'm not sure I'll be back to find out. Service was average, and so was this place.

The rating is for the food.  The service is FIVE STAR. Meats are excellent (we ordered tri-tip, and a full slab of babyback ribs).  The chopped salad with tri-tip was awesome.  The beans are good.  The mashed potatoes and coleslaw are horrible.  The bread sticks are greasy, and doughy.  Besides, I think it is cheap to make people pay for bread.  Another setback is the limited choice of drinks.  The best part of the experience was working with the person who helped me decide what to get.  I think he was the manager.

This place is way too inconsistent. Chef Robert Irvine would shake his head. It's always a roll of the dice as to whether it's going to be a good day or  a bad day to go there. I'm tired of taking that gamble and ending up disappointed. I used to love going here and really enjoyed their salads but the inconsistency in the last few months has sadly made me look for other restaurants to frequent instead.

My family goes here at least once a week.  Love the HUGE family-style portions for the salads.  Try the bbq chopped salad with tri-tip and chicken -- it's a meal in itself.

We used them to cater my mother-in-law's 86th bday dinner for 16 people.  Super cheap and good.  Everyone was raving over the tri-tip, the chicken and the salads.  Oh yes, and those  b r e a d s t i c k s... mmmmm...

Almost forgot the baby backs, not the best, but very good and oodles better than Robin's jerky-like ribs down the street.

This place is the bomb. I came here with a group of friends to kick back after a competition. The food was great.. we all shared a Tri-Tip steak, a half rack of baby back ribs, and The Works pizza.

The Tri-tip was juicy and cooked to perfection. The meat is as tender as any freshly slaughtered newborn calf would be. There was absolutely no guilt as I devoured my plate whole. The half rack baby back rips was delicious. The sauce was sweet and sour, which was a delicate balance to the salty The Works pizza.

Overall, I was satisfied with the service. Although it was slow, I do give the management credit for serving such a big group. We had around 30 people at our multiple tables. The staff was friendly and personable, serving our food with warm smiles.

I recommend sitting in the patio area. When we dined, the sun was bright and the breeze, cool. I really enjoyed a great view of the black, gum-stained concrete and metal license plates. It was too much to handle!

My first time with a friend for a quiet catch-up dinner.  Biggest thing is, I really REALLY hate their concept. I usually avoid all chains but this one did look quiet and inviting from the street.  But it's more like it can't decide whether to be a takeout counter or a nice date-night restaurant. We stood in the vicinity of the "hostess station" for five minutes wondering what the holdup was before anyone asked us if we had been helped yet, then explained that you have to order before you sit and they'll bring it to you. How difficult is one more step and ordering at the table once I've had a glass of wine and a chance to peruse the menu? The soda fountain and condiment area looks really tacky against all this vast amount of mood-lit seating and rustic patio space.  Where are the eat-in customers?  No wonder it's mostly empty.  It's more like an attractively decorated Fuddrucker's.

That said, I felt pressured to choose my meal quickly with the wafting scent of a cake stand full of brownies next me, each one as big as a toddler's head. I was tempted to skip to dessert but instead ordered the Grilled Vegetable salad with Tri Tip and a glass of Pinot Noir. The pour was very generous, which made me happy.  The salad was sublime. I hate bloody half-cooked meat and asked that the Tri Tip be from the well done end, accepting that it could be dry. It was juicy and succulent and delicious and only a little pink in the middle: perfect.

Overall, it's not a place you'd want to bring guests, but it could become my new favorite takeout place.  The wait staff was very friendly, almost chipper. The prices seemed fair. I think I'm going over tonight for some more of that Tri Tip.
