Review from Amy T.
One wouldn't usually crave a bowl of soup during the summer months, however I will gladly go out of my way for a piping hot spoonful of this stuff. And that's exactly what I did!
The soups available today were Salmon Chowder, Broccoli Cheese and Barley Corn. I haven't had the honor of tasting all the soups, but I am head over heels for the Salmon Chowder. Every spoonful had enormous chunks of Atlantic Salmon, perfectly cooked celery, carrots, fistful of dill and not too many cubes of potato as filler.
I like to eat at a different restaurant every time I visit Granville Island, but it's going to be hard to stray from Stock Market...Listed in: Healthy Eats

Stopped by today for a quick bowl of soup. My choice was chicken noodle
and it looked so good & nutritious with so many fresh vegetables & chunks of chicken.
That was until I tasted it. It was overpowered by one herb.. was it thyme ? that just masked the flavor of every other ingredient.
So i was disappointed, sad to say but i will try again. -

I can almost guarantee you will never find soup so good for so little money-Stock Market has the best soups of all Vancouver BC. (Yes, that is quite the statement) I like to come here during my sailing lessons lunch break (after getting recommended by a sailing instructor), and it NEVER disappoints me. A small soup is only $6.00, packed with tons of fresh, HIGH QUALITY vegetables + seafood (depending on what you order) AND it comes with DELICIOUS focaccia bread that complements the soup perfectly. I'd say that my favorite so far is the red snapper chowder and I can tell you that I would come here at least once a week for lunch. In fact, I am eager to try all the soups they have. (They change up the menus every day)
Their soups are always freshly made and ready so there is no waiting time. If you get a seat, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the water, seagulls and the rich residential areas. Then you can browse around the market, how great is that.
An awesome place to eat filling meals for less dough. Just remember to bring cash, as they don't accept credit cards ^^ -

As stated in my Quick Tip- "Red Lentil Soup=Amazing!"
Our second order was the Red Snapper Chowder, and that was okay- not
Amazing, but okay.
I love the Public Market... It's so great! The ambiance, the people, the variety, the life of it all is beautiful.
The Stock Market has awesome soup- it really does... However, I had to rate it between a 3-4 star mark because of lack of seating. I realize that it is a Public Market issue- but I would love to enjoy my
Soup in a nice open space. Instead, myself and my party of 4- sat at the most narrow bar I have ever been seated at in my entire life.... Not as enjoyable as I would have liked.

Way too many handfuls of herbs! Took home the asparagus and sweet potato soup. Should have been called Dill Soup- absolutely overpowered with dill. Wasted my money and now polluting the sewers as had to garberate it down the sink. A few years ago (my last visit), had the same problem with rosemary here. Should have learned my lesson. This chef has no concept of the use of herbs. Disgusting, actually, and causing customers to clog up Vancouver's sewers.

The Stock Market on Granville Island has forever altered the phrase "just soup".
No where else can you experience a choir of ingredients, all working in harmony to create such a symphony of taste for your mouth.
A delectable epicurean delight! I will be back. -

i'm in the Public Market looking for something good to eat and I stumble upon Stock Market. Soup on a cold day!
snapper + salmon chowder = I was thinking more of a white milk based chowder but this is like a veggie soup chowder. Nonetheless, it was pretty hearty and filling. Big chunks of fish. Love the garlic bread too.
Soup makes me happy =) -

Who doesn't like a nice selection of hearty, filling soup? Or delicious salad dressings? I always get the Large soup and end up eating only half of it and saving it for dinner or lunch the next day. Served with focaccia, just in case the soup wasn't enough already!
I go here about once a week right now. It's the perfect answer to a cooler day in Vancouver. -

Been coming here for 20 years as they have the best Soup in all of Vancouver.
Shh - Yelpers only! .Here is my deal $$ tip: Look up above the refrigerator case when you get there and they will have a small magnetic board that lists the soups they froze. For $5 - 6 bucks we get a big bag of soup that feeds three! Where else in Vancouver can you get homemade food that is so YUM for so little...
Also when our son was little got the homemade soups and added them to organic pablum for our son when he was a baby - fresh baby food and all natural - tasted awesome (yup Dad always did a "quality check!).
Anyways they win The Georgia Straight Best Soup Award every year for good reason!
Favs: Chicken Noodle or Red Snapper :-) -

Gotta love the "pun-niness" of the owners that named this place. Very punny.
I agree with all of the previous reviews - the stock market is a wonderful spot to grab lunch on a cold and rainy day! I love the fact that every time I visit they have a new selection. It is in a part of the market that is very crowded, and sometimes hard to find a seat, so my little tip for you - directly to the left of the counter they have a few stools with a small counter that you can eat your soup at. They are easy to miss, and almost always open!
If they have their wild salmon chowder available, grab it! That is my favourite!Listed in: Engrish, Granville Island

This place is so great! It's literally, a "Stock Market" as in, soup!
They make everything from scratch here, and you can get some to go for later, or you can order a bowl and eat it at the market with the Vancouver skyline as your view.
The soup of the day changes daily, but it's always guaranteed to be great! -

Soup! There is nothing better than a hot bowl of soup on a rainy Vancouver day.
The Stock Market has the best soups and they make about 3-4 kinds of fresh soups aily. A cup of soup is $4.25 and a bowl is around $6. It's not cheap, but so tasty and it comes with a wide, fresh slice of Foccaccia. My mom and I went to buy groceries and shared a bowl of the organic split pea soup. We loved the thyme and vegetables in it.
We then picked up a few pouches of their ready made soups for home. They also have marinades, sauces, dips, salad dressings and such. I love the way that you can see how they make their stock. There are a bunch of guys in the back de-boning turkeys and cutting up carrots. So authentic. -

Mission to Try Vancouver's 101 Best Eats
Today's Item: Stock Market's Hot Cereal , with varied sauces
Price: $4.50 for small, $5.50 large (large is a much better deal)
Limitation: Only served during breakfast, 9:00am - 11:30am, then you can try their delicious soup "stocks"
Comments: This is a sweet oatmeal.. in taste and in coolness! Today, the sauce they served it with was apple, plum and brown sugar... maybe it is fall season so everything happens to be apples... and as much as I love apples, I felt like I didn't get the other flavours.. you can choose either cream or 1% milk with your oatmeal, along with additional brown sugar. I believe they sell these sauces in bottles, lined up colourfully. I'm definitely looking forward to some of the other sauces on another morning. -

I have every intention of trying all of their soups. Yet time and again whenever I'm there, I order their seafood soups. You get generous bite size chunks of fish in each bowl! And on a cold day the soup thaws your nose, warms your cockles, and feeds your soul. The slice of fresh focaccia is the perfect accompaniment.
Considering the quality fresh ingredients in their soups....the price is worth it.
Every Thanksgiving and Xmas I'm here looking for turkey stock to make gravy. The family practically drinks it like soup.... -

I would make soup every single day if I lived in Vancouver and had access to Stock Market. They have veal stock, for pete's sake! I don't know what kind of soup I would MAKE with veal stock, but I'd sure as hell want to try it.
Since I was just visiting and feared the potential consequences associated with transporting turkey or seafood stock back to San Francisco, I decided to eat lunch here and sample their housemade soups. Fabulous. We enjoyed a tasty chicken noodle as well as a red snapper chowder that was creamy and perfectly flavored with fresh dill. Served with a hunk of focaccia, it was the perfect lunch on a rainy day! -

Perhaps the only Stock Market not to crash, this one just keeps on getting better!
Sure, the soups are AB-Fab but check out those refrigerator cases for more goodies to take home. In addition to all of their soups the fridges are also stocked (haha) with salad dressings, saucy sides and gravies, and interesting crumbs and toppings (such as Dukkah; an Egyptian blend of spices and nuts that you can crust onto fish or chicken or blend with EVOO for dipping).
I'm always discovering new tastes and treats and am super excited that Stock Market had the aforementioned Dukkah that I was searching for! -
Review from Dani B.
There are so many yummy things to choose from, I have trouble not spending my whole pay cheque here.
You can choose from a couple of their hot featured soups or you can browse through their refrigerated section, all of which look super delish.
This place has a plethora of amazing soups, but that's not all!
They also have dips, dressings and spreads that will blow your mind.
Although the the Granville Island Market is buzzing with stuff to eat, make sure not to breeze past this place, especially in the winter. -

I'm generally one to avoid Granville Island and its markets simply due to the amount of people. I like my bubble of personal space and those two concepts just don't jive with the amount of tourists. That said my bubble isn't anything if it's not full of food and definitely the Stock Market is THE place to go for soups in the city.
When I head there I often get soups and sauces to go to use for later. They offer, just as the title says, any sort of stock you can think of. It's great if you are preparing something bigger to have such a gourmet base to it.
Just going for a bowl though can be a bit expensive. It costs around 6 or 7 dollars. They are great though and come with bread. I'm sure if I was on Granville on a cool day I could be persuaded to pay simply due to the quality. -

Stock Market is a good place to start your shopping day at Granville Island because it'll inspire the rest of the meal that you are shopping for. They have soups, stocks, and sauces, including frozen meat sauces and fish sauces. I plan to stock up for the winter. Har har.

I stopped by Granville Island to pick up some soup last week for lunch. With the raving reviews I thought I couldn't go wrong. I decided to order the Tomato Soup. Unfortunately they don't accept debit unless you buy over $10.00 worth. So I ended up getting a drink and bumping up my small soup to a large.
The service is great! Everyone is super friendly and they'll give you samples if you're not sure. I didn't ask for a sample but went ahead and got the tomato soup. The soup comes with a really nice piece of bread with a lot of herbs on it. You can tell everything is homemade!
Unfortunately for me, I didn't like the soup all that much. I wanted a creamy tomatoey soup, but instead I felt as if it was a little over spiced. It's hard to explain but the spices were peppery and even curry-like at times. When it comes to tomato soup I am really picky with what I want. Because it was more heavily spiced than normal tomato soup (I LOVE the tomato soup at Burgoo - see review here: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) It took away from the fresh tomato broth that I was hoping for. Although I didn't like this particular soup too much, it was really about my taste. I think if you like a more tuscan tomato soup taste with more spice, then this is for you. I'm going to go back and try their chicken noodle soup and chowder because they both looked really good and had a lot of veggies and meat. They definitely don't scrimp and you're sure to get something homemade.
I would definitely go back! The bread was tastey and although the flavours didn't agree with me this time, I really enjoy that the soups they make is fresh and homemade! -

I need good fish stock, I could spend the 3-4 hours to simmer it up, or drop by the Stock Market and get it, well ease wins. They also have great salad dressings and salsas in styles you wouldn't think of until you are standing in front of the refer case. Pick up several bags of various stocks and slap them into your freezer.

The soup is really, really good. You can eat in or take away refrigerated soups in surprisingly durable plastic bags.
This is a great place to pick up stock if you don't have the time or the inclination to whip it up yourself. I'm not sure what's in their vegetable stock but it makes homemade veggie soups delicious. I feel like it's a little pricey for broth, but I spent as much making homemade stock that was nowhere near as delicious.
There's also a wide variety of dressings, dips and other stuff you can find to make food tasty here.Listed in: Granville Island Picks and…

Review from Sasha R.
I have always loved soup, however after moving to Portland, OR where there are week stretches of cold, wet weather that make you feel even your dry skin is soaking wet, I have learned love soup even more. Apparently, in BC it rains even more than PDX and Seattle, so, I'm sure that the locals get mighty appreciative of this place in the winter. However, a soup spot, on a brilliant summer day is a hard sell for some.
The Stock Market got it right, it was one of the few places that we actually bought something, after looking all around and trying to find the perfect meal we would create from a wide variety of vendors on our day at the Granville Island Market.
The simple joy of having a cup of soup that has hues of depth and layers upon layers of flavor are really hard to describe. But let's just say this, if you happen upon this place STOP, and grab a cup, cause you ain't ever had anything like this before. -

We had the mulligatawny and red snapper soups. Both excellent and tasty for a cool day. Very friendly as well.
