So tonight we went to one of the new Murder Mystery events at the Steveston Seafood House. I haven't had dinner there in a while and they were fully booked on my birthday last week so we arranged to go tonight as a party of 6 (sadly the bf has labyrinthitis so he was stuck in bed and it ended up just being 5 of us) just to see what it was like and do something different. The restaurant is naturally sectioned off into 2 sections so one side was set up for the murder mystery event and the other side was left as the normal restaurant setup. The menu was set with two choices for each course, drinks were fair game. We all tried the prosciutto wrapped prawns with a maple syrop glaze (except my parents who had the prawns sans prosciutto due to being semi-vegetarian) which was delicious. The prosciutto had a taste and texture similar to bacon and you can't go wrong with that. The duck breast and spinach salad was light and flavourful, the cranberries were a nice touch.
The rack of lamb although we all asked for medium rare came as medium to medium well but it was still very juice, had good flavour, and the sides were delicious - lightly roasted vegetables and a sweet potato or yam mash (almost as good as I make myself but I do mine with a touch of spices and rosemary to enhance the flavour). The dessert we chose was chocolate mousse which was rich but still very fluffy so it wasn't too heavy or too light. The only downside was the 'garnish' and I seem to remember this being an issue before, but not that big of a deal in my opinion. The garnish consisted of curled strips of beet with kale leaves, and the leaves were often a little limp and the beet was dry as if it was cut this morning and left in a bowl all day so it was rather hard. I love beets so it was a tad disappointing especially as the garnish was on every dish but the desserts, but all in all the meal itself was amazing.
The murder mystery was fun as well - I won a bottle of spanish wine, which i haven't had in years as we tend mostly to drink australian, german or okanagan wines at the moment. The setup was an opening list of clues, a vignette with the actors, then question time where they go table to table and you can ask them prying questions - only one actor made it to our table but we managed to get enough to figure out the situation. We also found a photo under our table mats that we had 'autographed' by another character...they did vignettes between each course, sometimes coming around to talk to guests, my dad even ended up assigned at the very beginning as a 'groupie' for the actress character which was very funny.
I will seriously do this again, they are doing more in June, and I have every intention of being there, this time with the sick bf. They do different mysteries each time, and I would love to see what he thinks because he usually knows who did it within the first two minutes (Literally I got home, mentioned the three types of characters, and had not even gotten into how the thing was set up when he already said who did it - seriously he's talented...playing Clue sucks with him sometimes...he should be in crime investigation or something)...I will be hopefully able to book one of the events in June and I strongly recommend anyone who enjoys Clue or murder mysteries (they often base them on Agatha Cristie type scenarios or 'British' style mysteries) should give it a try! The food is worth the trip if nothing else! Their regular menu is delicious as well, the mystery setup just adds an element of fun...and the potential to win a bottle of wine! ;) -

Now I'll know where to buy those touristy gifts of smoked salmon in that cute little wooden box ;) plus don't need to go to DT either. though parking can be tough here on the weekends.
It's a bit tight on space.
Fresh but as expected, a bit pricey though i'm sure it's fresh being by the water.
Live lobster today for $12.99 per. -

Solid Restaurant with good food and great service.
I have been to Steveston more than 100x but I have never eaten at Steveston until yesterday. Boy, did I miss out all those years.
Good food at a rockstar price. $36 per person gets you 2 appetizers, 1 entree and 1 dessert. I started with bacon-wrapped scallops, then on to a caesar salad, then a moist piece of salmon, and finally a nice chocolate mousse.
Table for 5. A nice bottle of Burrowing Owl Chardonnay. $300 including tax and tip. Totally worth it.
Great restaurant to have a nice relaxing dinner to chat and catch up with old friends and family. -

Good service and clean, cozy space but the food is not on par with other surf & turf restaurants in the Lower Mainland in the same price range. For example, I ordered a shrimp & avocado salad, and what I got looked like a Sushi Bella's Bella Tower . . . except made with thawed mini shrimps and a chunky genneric garnish that wouldn't be out of place in a seniors' home. As a result it was visually unappealing and tasted strongly of . . . thawed mini shrimp.

Went Easter Sunday and it was.... quiet.... Looked like they'd let us in prior to 'real opening time'... But it was all, in a word, fabulous. THE Best Seafood Penne I have ever had in my life. Basically, 1/2 seafood and 1/2 penne, in a rosa sauce. I had asked if the order was 'a bit, or a lot?' as I was hungry. It was huge. And their bread was fabulous too. We started with calamari (not deep fried) in a nice sauce, which we basically kept until the bread was gone. My partner had a melange of seafood in a cassarole dish. She thought the rice that was promised was underneath. It wasn't. It was a wee dollop on the side. The dish was ALL seafood.
Not cheap, but worth it. We'll be back. -

On July 1 the were selling fish and chips and salmon sandwiches outside of their restaurant. It was some of the worse fish/chips I've ever had. We got our food and walked across the street to the park. Once we got there, we realized what we got.
The "chips" we got were cold, not warm, very cold. I'm sure they were bagged frozen fries, not real, fresh potato fries. Anyway, the fries were cold, I guess the heater they had on the table was not on.
The fish was about the quality of a McDonalds fish sandwich. Actually, a Mcdonalds fish sandwich and fries would have been better. I guess the fish was from a frozen package, microwaved and then placed in the warmer.
My wife said her salmon sandwich was pretty poor also.
We'll never eat there again. there are too many other restaurants in the area to choose from. -

After a recent visit, I wonder why I hadn't been there for a few years because I always thought it was good, and now it's even better than I remember. 4 of us had a 4 course fall special on their website and every course except dessert was a 5 star for everyone. They really do know how to cook fish here and the steak I had with the crab rivaled any steak I've had anywhere.
Ample portions, reasonably good service considering the place was almost full, a decent wine list and reasonable prices added to the overall value. The tables in the newer section at the back give more privacy than the crowded main room.
As mentioned, the desserts were the only disappointment. The strawberries with ice cream and grand marnier had no grand marnier, the apple pie was soggy and the chocolate cake was sold out. Considering we wouldn't normally order dessert, this was no big deal.
Finally, another review mentioned the great view of the water. Either the reviewer was in the wrong restaurant or being sarcastic because the view is the main street of Steveston and the only water you are going to see is the water glass on your table. -

My husband and I went tonight before going to the theater. We had such a tasty meal. I ordered their special salmon dish and my husband had the Filet Mignon. I still dream about that salmon - it was so good and my husband said the Filet just melted in his mouth. We had an appetizer, delicious warm bread and a glass of red wine to start . So there was just no room for dessert. The portion size was more then adequate, the atmosphere was cozy and the service was excellent. We will be back. MmmmMmmm.

One of my girlfriends was visiting this weekend and wanted to go for seafood (she's a prairie girl and wanted some fish!)... we'd done "C" together previously so this time we tried something less urban and came here because of the good reviews.
The menu has an amazing selection of seafood. They seem to running a modified Dine Out/Winter menu in addition to their regular menu. We both went for the winter menu since you basically had free dessert and an extra second course since it was $34.95 rather than $50+ if ordered separately.
I started off with the coconut prawns and scallops and she had the crab and prawn cakes. Mine was great! Presentation on a old-fashioned fish plate was cute, and they were bite sized to fit on white Chinese type soup spoons. Her crab and prawn cakes looked cute and she thought they were good.
Our second course was the Boston chowder. She loved it, but I found it a bit spicy. I would skip this next time.
We both picked the same main course, a Mahi Mahi with a light sauce that I cannot recall with veggies on the side. I thought this was okay... I've had better mahi mahi before, but that was also in Hawaii at a fish house there with the beach in view so my expectations might be a bit high :)
Desserts were good. We had a cheesecake trio which were 3 slices of cheesecake (mmmm.... triple chocolate, creme brule type, New York style) on a large plate - perfect for sharing.
My seafood hating hubby came along and ordered a la carte and his came to about $55-ish for a Caesar salad, peppercorn steak (yes, he's the weirdo you always see eating red meat at a seafood place!) and pecan pie.
Service was overall very good and food came at a good pace. I like how the menu items are named after places local to GVR. The bread was one of their weaknesses and I thought their seafood was solid with a vast selection, but I'm still partial to the more contemporary "C" and Blue Water Cafe.
Decor is traditional/rustic... It fits the Steveston feel. I like the overall look of the place even though it's dated, but I do wish they would upgrade the chairs.
Would I come back? Possibly... it's not one of my faves in GVR, but I'd be willing to try it again. -

You have decided to come out to Steveston on business or a date with the wife or girlfriend? This place aims to please.
The finest in a seasonal selection of seafood that entices the tummy as well as esthetically pleasing to your eyes.
Great service, good food, and an excellent wine list -- did i forget dessert? You shouldn't.
My wife and I visit frequently on special occasions.
BTW - the menu shuns environmental impacting fishing practices. So Bon Appetite! -

In the heart of Steveston lies this seafood restaurant which has been around for 30 years now.
There's a reason it's lasted so long, it is arguably the best seafood in Richmond. I repeatedly see it listed in the local community paper year after year rated as #1 seafood restaurant as well.
I think it's because of the Captain Vancouver platter. It basically has every kind of seafood you can think of. King crab legs, scallops, clams, mussels, salmon and some other fish I can't remember now.
It's definitely well worth the price tag so don't be put off.
Also give the Lulu Island Seafood Bowl a try it's also to die for! -

This is easily the best restaurant in Steveston. The owner is welcoming and the food along with its presentation is excellent. I have gladly brought friends from around the world here and they have consistently raved about the restaurant, including the fact that it provides value for money.

I came here with a party of 8 for a birthday celebration.
It's a lovely place trying to be fancy in a touristy area. The restaurant is quite casual despite the professional looking waitstaff and the bathroom is small.
The menu has a wonderful selection of seafood (as the name suggests) as well as a few steak and chicken entrees and a seasonal special. The food was very delicious and was served promptly and hot (an important factor with a large group). One disappointment was the ample amount of those little shrimps in the Seafood Appetizer Platter for 2+. In my opinion a seafood restaurant should never serve those.
The service was so-so. The waiter was polite but made a few comments that were not really necessary and when they filled the cups or placed the dishes in front of me it was awkward and usually at the wrong moment.
I liked the fact that they have a coat check. -

My parents used to go out for dinner here when they were dating. That's how far back this place goes. The view of the water is great, and the seafood dishes are fresh and top quality. Get the seafood platter so you can taste a little bit of everything (shrimp, fish, calamari). My family still celebrates birthdays and special occasions at the Steveson Seafood House. My mum is kind of sentimental that way.

i stumbled across this place during one of my weekend getaways to vancouver. i was looking for a place to eat for lunch while i visited this sleepy little fishing village called steveston. right on the fishermans pier, there were shops and restaurants. the steveston seafood house looked like a nice place to eat, so i went there. i didn't know what my wife wanted and i didn't really know what i wanted, so we ordered the seafood platter, a little bit of everything. i must say, the platter was a huge 3 tier platter filled with fries, fish, shellfish and more. but what really was the standout was the calamari. i could sum it up with one word, great. might be one of the best i've had. being that it was such a huge platter, we had leftovers to take back to our hotel. the service here is excellent, the food was great. ambiance? very nice, you could say a nice place to bring a date. the huge bay windows allow you to see the boats coming in and what they caught for the day. though i really love this place for it's food, service and atmoshpere, i hate the fact the parking is limited on the street due to the fact there are many visitors who stop here for the shops, food and fish.
