It makes me so sour that Stem closed, without warning, late last summer. There was never an explanation nor an official closing notice. I remember walking by and seeing a sign that said they were temporarily closed for renovations as of July 1 (or something) and then they NEVER REOPENED. That July 1 sign is now gone and the windows are boarded up with construction paper, yet there is no closed notice. The Stem restaurant signage is still there, taunting me.

I used to go to Stem at least twice a week for lunch (but truly, breakfast) when I worked in the area. It was a nice change of pace from the usual lunch options and let me tell you - getting french toast, scrambled eggs or pancakes midday is the best way to break up the monotony of office work. There are no other diner spots open in the area and Stem was truly one of a kind!

Stem Open Kitchen is no longer open.  It's unfortunate that this is how I have to start off this review, but its true.

What appeared to be a renovation, has turned into a long term, cardboarded window solution, leaving us desiring a fantastic breakfast stuck with Coras and Eggspectations.

What is better, may I ask you, than a family owned greasy spoon, where you can taste the effort and love in everything they make.  When I was working at Richmond and Peter, there were times where I would have the Stem Garden omelette with ham and cheese added, up to four times a week.

My friend, David Bowie, was a staunch supporter of naming that custom omelette, "The Stirling", and tried hard to get it on the menu.  If only we knew it was closing, maybe we would've given up sooner.

It's a shame that no one will be able to taste the perfection of the Stem Omelette.  I have yet to find a similar one, just the right fluffiness, just the perfect amount of flavour. and accompanied by some of the best hash browns the city has to offer.

This is for Stem.  Please come back into my life.
