Their croissants (chocolate or not) are amazing!!!
They also used to make this apple and custard pastry but have recently stopped. That was the best one in their shop, so please, everyone start bugging them to make it again! -

* Promising pastry, but needs fine tuning *
This spot seems quite promising. I came looking for their fresh baked croissants, but unfortunately they didn't have any (guess they are popular).
I settled instead for a brioche au sucre. The top was nice and flaky, and basically perfect. Unfortunately the base was undercooked and overly doughy and slightly stale tasting. It wasn't stale as in day old stale, just not at its best. Photos: http://www.yelp.ca/biz... and http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
That said, it seems that with a little time at this location they will hopefully work through the baking issues as the top of the brioche clearly indicates they have some strong potential.
I'll be back after a while to give them another shot.
P.S. Free wifi for you if that matters..... -

I am so happy that this delightful french patisserie opened in my neighbourhood. Until now, this stretch of 4th Ave (around Macdonald) has had a few decent coffee shop choices, but nothing notable in the way of baked goods.
The coffee at Steeve Raye is excellent, and the pastries are fresh, interesting and indulgent. If you've got the time you can make it a lunch date with in-house made soup or salad and your choice of tart.
The proprietor is behind the counter, and is so friendly and earnest that you can't help but wish him well. They've just opened, so things still feel new and a little sparse. However, they have a nice assortment of brioche, croissant and beautiful cakes available at prices that are a just a tad more than cheap ($4-$6/baked wonderfulness depending on what you get).
Steeve Raye is all about quality and care, and I'm happy to shell out for that.
