We just returned from a memorable 2-night stay at this wonderful, friendly inn, conveniently located in a quiet area about a 10 minute drive from the Friday Harbor ferry terminal.

Prices were very reasonable (less expensive than some of the other places in town) and we had a 2-bedroom suite with large living area - perfect for families.  Best of all, it's a working ranch with horses, goats, alpaca, sheep, chickens and one llama.  Our kids (11, 8) absolutely loved it - especially when they got to help collect eggs, feed the horses, and walk the goats - and are begging to return later in the year.

The owner, Jessica, was super-friendly and very accommodating (we could come and go as we pleased.)  States Inn is not fancy by any stretch (bring boots if it's wet) but very clean, comfortable, and loads of fun.  Dog-friendly, too.

Breakfast = Delicious  (baked french toast with fresh blueberry sauce on our first morning and squash souffle on our second morning)

We stayed in the California room, which from looking at the other rooms was one of the larger ones.  Big windows over looking the farm, but no drapes to pull closed for privacy.  No bathtub, not that you would want to take a bath since the water has a very thick smell of sulfur (eggs).

Tea, hot chocolate, apple cider, and coffee available 24-7....but no herbal teas :(

The common area is beautiful with an impressive sea shell collection, computer with internet, and a constant supply of cookies.

    Free Wi-fi

Alpacas, which you can feed, but they charge you for the carrots...not quite as accommodating as one might hope.

enjoyed this B+B very much.  wonderful breakfast.  rooms are clean. free wifi.  compared to other accomodations on san juan, states inn is on the less expensive side.  this is a working farm: goats, horses, roosters in the morning.   don't expect hotel style rooms or an experience like a best western, but do expect gracious hosts and a quirky b+b.  loads of fun.

History

Established in 1991

In 1991 on the site of an historic cattle ranch the old bunkhouse was converted to a Bed & Breakfast.  In the past 5 years the reputation of the fabulous farm-to-table breakfasts and the friendly, relaxed atmosphere has created a foodies destination.  In 2007 a store selling on-site made fresh foods and local products has allowed island dwellers and visitors to enjoy the fresh great foods from the ranch kitchen.
