Another one of those places on my list of places to visit when home in the peg. I love Star Grill. I've been going here for years and it's never a disappointment. Good stuff!

Have been here several different times with friends and we have all enjoyed the dining experience, the menu is varied enough to provide something for everyone and a nice wine list. Last visit was with some friend I would class as a little fuss about what they eat, and they not only found something they liked, they truly enjoyed it. .  The place is cosy and intimate, however a little crowded when full,
Reservations are recommended, but it is worth the trip.

I have eaten at the Star Grill many times over the last year. I have had consistently good food from the Portage location. Amazing burgers, by far the best in the city. I have even ordered the burgers though Mobile Maitre'd several times as a home feast. Be prepared though, as the burgers, along with the rest of their menu, is priced in accordance with a gourmet restaurant not the actual motif you experience in the small strip-mall type diner you experience.

I have had decent service in the restaurant the majority of the time, but I have been somewhat disturbed by a "snotty" attitude by one gentleman server on occasion. I usually take the good with the bad.

I personally think it's a bit overpriced for the diner-type atmosphere, but the food is superb. Their fresh desert menu is worth the trip alone.

Looks like I'm going to be among the few who didn't actually find their Star Grill experience to be "stellar".
Preface: I was a huge fan of the Star Grill from visits when last I lived in The Peg, so when an opportunity came to take an out of town guest to dinner, my first choice was, you guessed it, Star Grill.
And darn it all anyway, it just didn't measure up.
I have to say that right off the bat I was a little put off by the over abundance of the celestial decor, it waxed a little cheesy to me, and especially after looking at the menu and witnessing the massive price increases, I have to say I expected a bit more of an upscale or mature room to match the menu.
This is not to say that my halibut wasn't nearly heaven like, the firm white fish was certainly what I was hoping for, but alas, the flavour itself had me soar back to earth because it truly was just bland and basic.
My companion's burger left a little to be desired as well, not bad, just not great. The fries that we were told were out of this world too fell short of delivering on the promise, leaving me with a hankering for Kelekis to be frank :)
I was so hopeful that this dining experience would be what it used to be and maybe that's where some of my disappointment lies. Wish I could redeem the experience with a joy filled tale of exceptional servivce, but it appeared that even the server was less than starry eyed on the evening of our visit.
Star Grill, you used to be so magnificent, one of my faves to be sure. Would love to hear about when the magic returns, please keep me posted.

This is my favourite restaurant in Winnipeg and it's 10 steps from my Winnipeg apartment!  Lucky me!

I love the atmosphere and don't care that it is so little, it's what makes it special.  Everything I have tried on their menu is freaking delicious and I usually get something new everytime because it is so hard to pick a favourite item.

I have never tried their Tarot Readings which I believe they have every night but would love to when I am back in Winnipeg.

All the people that work there are very nice and they serve up some beautiful platters (with their cute garnishes and carrots in the shape of stars).  It may be a little pricey for some, but it's a great date place if you are willing to spend extra on your sweetheart.  My husband and I go as often as we can.

This place has an interesting decor. Not very upscale but frienly and cosy. They do keep the 'star' theme in mind. The menu is extensive. I have always had soups and burgers here....excellent. The double pattie burger is huge! They seem to have an interesting wine collection although I have never really tried any. Although not my thing, they have tarot card reading here, atleast in the mornings on weekends.

The Star Grill easily makes my top five favorite restaurants in Winnipeg.  It's got such a huge variety of dishes on their menu for all tastes and the portions are more than enough to fill your belly.  The staff is great, too! They have a different selection of amazing desserts everyday and you can't go wrong no matter what you choose.

Make a reservation today! You won't be sorry.

Star Grill is one of my favourite restaurants in Winnipeg.
The restaurant is pretty small and can fill up quickly on weekends, so reservations are suggested.
The menu is quite extensive.  I've never been for lunch, but they have burgers, sandwiches, quesidillas, and even perogies.
Everything I have tried on the menu has been excellent.  The coconut shrimp are as good as you can get in Winnipeg.  The salads that accompany the meals are a refreshing change from the usual generic house salads.
Prices are a little expensive, up to $30 for a main course, but most dishes are around $20.  My feeling is that the food is worth the price.
The service I've had there has been very attentive and accomodating.  Very polite and friendly.  I've been there probably 10 times and have never experienced service as mentioned in a previous review.
The restaurant also has tarot card readings and other weird things occasionally.  Not my thing, but it adds to the atmosphere of the place.
Highly recommended for a date or romantic dinner.
