My bridesmaids and I had our hair and makeup done here for my wedding, and all I can say is WOW. I don't think any of us could have been happier with the results. Redmon worked on our hair and Chad did our makeup and they were both absolutely fantastic. I met with Redmon a few times before the big day (a couple of hairstyle consultations, and once to get some highlights done), and each time he was so friendly, charming, and downright hilarious.
I didn't have an exact idea of what I wanted my hair to look like for the wedding, just that I didn't want it to be anything too crazy (something different and more, elegant than I normally wear, but that would still look like "me"). Redmon offered some great suggestions, and really listened to my input on them. We ended up coming up with the perfect style to fit what I was looking for.
Chad did an equally excellent job with our makeup, giving us a classy look without overdoing it. He was very considerate about the kind of look we were each going for. When he gave me a trial run a couple of weeks before the wedding, he had me look in a mirror after every step to make sure I liked what he was doing. Which I did of course; Redmon told me before I met Chad that he was the best makeup artist in the city, and while I don't have a lot of other experience with this kind of thing to compare him to, I can say that I was REALLY impressed with what he accomplished. I would gladly recommend him to anyone else.
I have to say, I felt absolutely beautiful on my wedding day, more so than I've ever felt before, and a HUGE part of that was the awesome job done by Redmon and Chad. Two thumbs way up. More if I had them. That would also make for some interesting wedding photos...Listed in: 30 Days of Yelp!, Down the Aisle...

I feel bad giving this place a less-than everyone else rating, but the experience I had wasn't the greatest...
I had gone in to get highlights & a trim, and came out with a BOWL cut... (for real, I kid you not, and no I'm not exaggerating!)
I had asked for a "textured cut" - like choppy, layers - so to my dismay it came out completely opposite than what I requested.
I didn't say much, because at the time I thought it was just the way he styled it (like flat-ironed straight) but when I went home I was looking more-closely at the back and it wasn't textured at all, in fact the next day I spent over an hour just trying to style it so it didn't look like a mushroom on my head. *failed* - so I walked down to the salon (it was about 10mins before it was about to open), and the manager was there so I went in (and *I* apologized - wtf - even though it was one of his stylists who messed-up) but I apologized for having to go back nonetheless.
Anyways, long (boring) story short, he texturized my hair to death (like I asked) I said "please, I BEG you, just make it look less...round... less like a mushroom / bowl cut" (he even agreed that it looked like he put a bowl on my head and just cut around it - maybe to appease me, or maybe he really did agree)
I think the worst part was it was the most expensive cut I have ever paid for ($50+ !!!) and also the worst. So I was not only disappointed with the cut, but also a bit dirty at the fact I was just charged out the wazoo for something I could've done myself.
Regardless, I won't be back. I really do appreciate the owner fixing my haircut for free, but the initial disappointment and seriously, the worst haircut I have ever had (since I was 5 when my mom gave me an equally-bad [but expected at age 5] bowl cut). -

In the name of Yelp, I followed a friend to Stanhope & Co on Brenton Street to see what its all about. Apparently they have a promotion on for new clients that offers 50% off a haircut & style. Not bad.
I stayed briefly for a little observatory experience, and would sum up the end results of friend's new-do later. The space appears polished, present and buzzing. It seemed to be fairly busy when we popped in, with hair falling and hairdressers here and there. Nice vibe though, and with a fresh look.
The 50% off promotion is definitely an incentive, and I'm even debating whether or not to go in for a quick cut. My friend reported decent reviews, and her hair did look fab.
I think I'd give this spot a try, and glad to have it on my radar. -

Stanhope is the master stylist's last name - his first name is Derek. I was referred to Derek by a close friend last year and since having my hair cut by him I can't go anywhere else. He's totally nuts - says outlandish things but all the while he's listening to what you want and doing magic with your hair. He doesn't do colour personally but he does have some very talented colourists on staff. I keep trying to get him to build a website but he says he doesn't need one - he's connected. Old skool! He's from Guysborough and his biggest fears are cancer and bankruptcy lol He's the life of the place - hence the name.
