It's taken me some time to come for an eating. Not because I haven't been curious, more because burgers just aren't a craving I have in Vancouver... until this past weekend. And StackHouse was first on my list to pig out at.
And you know what? I think it's my new burger joint favourite for three reasons: 1) Greening your burger here equals wrapping it in butter lettuce -- no extra charge 2) The sides: both the fries and the mesclun salad are da bomb! Especially the dressing, tomatoes and edamame beans 3) the prime rib patty - not greasy, perfectly moist.
Pair this with a trip to the beach, a sippy cup full of wine, a sunset (at Sunset Beach in this case) and a Sunday night dinner is served.Listed in: Vancouver Burgers

I'm writing this review in order to expose to you a history of exploitation, suspicious activities and nefariousness that I've witnessed by Stackhouse Burger Bar and it's staff.
Do you know what is in their buns? It's flour from wheat fields sprinkled with dust from the wings of a thousand ferries.
And what are their burgers seasoned with? Salt extracted from the tears of nuns.
And what are these burgers made of? Unicorns. Unicorns are endangered. I hate that about them.
The Pancetta comes with Guinness Cheddar. This kind of thing can only be the work of a mad scientist. I hate mad scientists.
You'll never guess what's that in the Poutine. Truffle oil? No. It's sweat from the brow of His Holiness the Dalai Lama himself. I hate re-incarnated sweat.
And the staff are friendly and casual too. But are they like that because they're nice people or is it just to make you look bad? I hate looking bad. Don't you see how sinister this all is? Think about that next time you walk in and they greet you cheerfully and serve you delicious food.
There's only one way they could provide all that AND make great cocktails. Dean Martin is chained to a radiator in the basement and has been concocting beverages for them since his "death" in 1995. I hate that they do that.
One day I was eating a burger and someone who works there offered me a deep fried pickle. I had never had one before but immediately I started craving one. Well guess who makes deep fried pickles. Yup. Stackhouse. So their psychic abilities are getting stronger every day. You may already have guessed but I hate psychics.
You're a bunch of freaks Stackhouse. I hate you.
See you soon. -

For my third time here I came in with my parents on a Sunday evening.
We had: The ahi tuna burger with salad, trio of Stackhouse sliders and fries with an extra salad for good measure, all washed down with the Russel blond Ale.
Burgers and fries: hot, juicy and flavorful - made to order.
Salad: fresh, cool and crsip - with a hint of tangy sweetness.
Ditto the beer.
I like the server guy. Had him all three times I've been here. The room is pretty minimal, but I like it as well. Heck even my parents loved it.
Mom's rating 4/5
Dad's rating 5/5
the boys have it. 5/5
I stand behind my 5 rating, lol.

Visited this place after searching help for best burgers in downtown Vancouver. Glanced at the menu before entering and thought the prices seemed a bit high... $15 for a burger and fries!? Decided to try it anyway and happily discovered their $10 lunch deal. Also ordered the $3.50 beer special so we were happy campers. Burgers were deliciously juicy, nice fresh brioche bun. Fries were hot and crispy, bonus that they were able to bring malt vinegar on request. It wasn't busy but a few other tables. Service was Good. Accommodating when I asked for extra pickles. Decor is an eclectic gathering of items against a white backdrop. Too bad they dropped the ball with the washroom, which was sad looking and could have used a good mopping. Overall we were very content and will go back. At least to take advantage of the lunch special.

Might as well round out my triumvirate of burger joint reviews.
This place was decent, quality, flavorful food, but it loses points in a couple aspects. I would say the food is comparable in concept to Romer's but not quite as good. Still very decent, but it costs more. Probably more than I want to spend on a night out for just a burger.
Next, and more problematic, is the atmosphere. This may be just me but it was a little too pretentious. Maybe I'm just not hipster enough, but I didn't feel very comfortable there. There was no rudeness or uppitiness from the servers or anything, it was just a feeling. Kind of cold, like you can often get with these places that come off like they think they're so cool. And yeah, it's a cool place, interesting decor and all that, but I didn't exactly feel relaxed, and that's pretty important to me.
It was kind of loud too, but that's excusable being it's right on the Granville strip, and it wasn't too bad compared to similar places.
I guess that sums it up! I was fairly satisfied with my meal but not so much with the room itself. -

3.5 stars for a good Kobe burger and okay cocktails.

Review from Taylor K.
I was in a mood for a burger today so I decided to give this place a try. I took my little son with me. I usually like to avoid the busy lunch rush so we headed in a bit early, 11:30 to be exact. We were the first customers there. We seated ourselves by the window.
The server told me about the lunch special (stack burger for $10.00 including fries/ or salad). Good deal considering the it's usually $15.00. I also ordered the onion rings as well.
I love there is so many choices of burgers there.
Decor is pretty nice. I loved the coat hangers on the walls; they were in the shape of a horse. (pretty sure) and I liked the interiors.
It was a tad slow but I didn't care. I wasn't in a rush and sitting by the window gave me the opportunity to do some window watching and my little guy content watching a movie on my phone. (Thank god for technology!)
The burger was good. Pretty comparable to Sunset burger except for the toppings inside. This one was panchetta and portobello mushrooms which I love.
The onion rings were really good. Crispy and perfectly salted. And the cilantro aioli was good as well.
I am definitely coming back those onion rings and I think I might give a crab burger a try next time! -
Review from Joshua N.
The burgers were very good and I suppose that's the minimum I would expect, since the word "burger" is in the restaurant's name. We had the sliders instead of the single burger. They're more fun to eat, it's a fact.
UNfortunately, I also had the poutine. I don't know what they put in the gravy (some kind of mushroom sauce?) but it did not taste good. I'm from Quebec, and I'm not saying that makes me some kind of poutine expert, but I know what I like, and this wasn't it.
So to sum up: good burgers, bad poutine. I found the prices a little on the expensive side, but maybe that's just me. -

* Upscale White Castle *
I've passed by this burger spot many times without thinking too much about it. But I finally decided to step in and see how it compares.
I ordered the pancetta burger, which was described on the menu as, "6.5 oz local prime rib patty with pancetta, Guinness cheddar, chipotle aioli and butter lettuce served on a brioche bun." Sounded good to me. It was priced at a reasonable (for a mid-scale burger joint) price of $10 including fries or a salad.
I have to ding them a little bit for aggravating a pet peeve of mine - they have a "Kobe burger" on the menu. I'm not clear why places feel it is ok to call something Kobe when it isn't Kobe beef. And if they actually were able to somehow get real Kobe beef why waste it on a burger?!?!?! But I digress.
The burger was square (reminding me of good old White Castle - in shape only though of course). The pancetta was a round nicely crisped slice on top of the rich slice of melted Guinness cheddar. The cheddar provided a nice colour pattern from the Guinness interspersed with the cheese. The patty, which was very juicy and moist, was cooked just right, was well seasoned and had a nice beefiness to it. It was served on top of slightly sauteed onions (not mentioned on the menu) and a leaf of butter lettuce. The bun was brioche and had a thin layer of chipotle aioli to give a bit of spice. I would have preferred the bun to be a little smaller to get a better beef to bun ratio. But I'm nitpicking. This was a very good burger. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
The fries were fairly standard commercial fries. They were cooked correctly and not over salted. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
On the service front, I see some other reviewers have had challenges with the waitstaff and/or wait time for the kitchen. That wasn't my experience at all. The server was very professional and friendly, the burger arrived in a reasonable time for fresh made. Everything seemed to be firing just right.
This is a nice mid-market spot - and miles ahead of the nearby Sunset Burger (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) which just doesn't compare at all.Listed in: Vancouver Burgers

Ok, nothing special. Friendly service, the burgers are good , but the menu could do with some variety. Three of them differ by only a single ingredient. Would go back maybe once or twice more to try other offerings, but that would probably be it.

Ok, so I'm reviewing a burger bar but not reviewing the burgers? Why? Well, I'll leave that to the experts. And most reviews and publications around town will tout the supremacy of the burger , and even the onion rings here.
I love this place because of the atmosphere, the people, the vibe. The ladies and gents of the Stack. Whether it's the $10 lunch special, a full-house rallying behind the Canucks, exchanging one-liners with the talented bar staff and friendly servers, Thursday night jams with DJ Seko or Flipout. It all happens behind a veil of mature but raw interior design sophistication. Clean and comfortable. Honest and humble.
Yes please. I'll have another pint of bitter. Thank you.Listed in: Beer!

Great food! Its sort of a simple place, but in a great way.
There's a good variety of burgers on the menu. I got the lamb burger which was awesome, and a friend of mine got the tuna burger. Both were not your typical burger, but they had really great flavor and a nice variety of ingredients
(anything with goat cheese is amazing!)
Service was great and the price was reasonable. -

Love the veggie burger for sure. Even though they come two size (regular and sliders) and cost the same. I would still recommend the regular if you wanna keep you penny worthy. The desert is okay, not a big fan.

StackHouse is my favorite burger in town. The bun is a brioche. The meat is cooked perfectly. The salad has soy beans. It is spacious and airy so I can meet with a friend with her kids OR my work colleagues.

Wanted to go here for a while. Glad we made it. First of all this place has nice clean decor, and nice break from the rest of this end of Granville Street.
The menu is simple and well presented with good selection of drinks.
Ordered the Stackhouse Burger, and I think it gave most other places a run for the money. The pattie is thick and juicy, great bun, tasty pancetta, and excellent fresh cut fries.
Will definitely be back here. -
Review from Clare L.
Invited out by a few friends, we decided to head here, mainly because my friend had one of those groupon things, but he was on a mission to try every burger joint in town. It wasn't too busy on a Thursday night, but there were a couple of larger (+7) groups there, the DJ was spinning some of our high school hiphop dance hits (although it was a bit too loud, we managed)
The discount voucher provided us with beer samples, and two appy's which we went for onion rings, poutine, and bitter brown and blonde beer. I can't vouch for the alcohol, but according to one of my trusted beer aficionados said the blonde was nice, but the bitter brown was potable but preferred the other. We also then ordered burgers which I decided to go for a Veggie Burger as I haven't had one in forever. Your option is fries or salad, and I decided to opt for healthy Mesclun Salad.
I'll admit that the poutine was ok, gravy was a flavourful but it was fairly salty tasting. It's nothing like a poutine in Québec but after it's description, you should't be expecting that. Onion rings were great. The most surprising thing for me was their Veggie Burger. I admit that after going back to the menu and rereading the description I should have known, but I think my eyes glazed over the fact it had edamame in it. This was a very different tasting veggie burger than what I am accustomed to completely. I liked their daring edge on it, it gives a completely different texture and flavour for veggies to try. It was a bit too buttery tasting for me, and I really had to concentrate on not thinking about the edamame (I have a huge issue with eating things that are small, green, round and not a piece of candy - don't ask, but it just bothers me highly - not the restaurants fault). It was very good, I liked the brioche bun too, it was not soggy at all or oversauced.
Ambience, as I said before there is a DJ, booths are comfortable, It had a cool inside with black knives decor on one side of the restaurant, and we also enjoyed the knives aimed at the cow design on the other wall. It wasn't cluttered and had a great minimalist feel, and glace facing exterior, so you can people watch both indoor, and out!
I'm interested to come back and try their Ahi tuna burger or crab burger, those also sounded delicious, so hopefully I will be back soon! -

I got to admit that that burger was amazing!!! I got the stack house one.
Yeah, it's a bit expensive, but it's a cool place with delicious burgers!!!
I am definitely recommending this to others and going again myself... gotta be careful though... The burgers are big and delicious! need elastic pants, cause the unbutton look is not so good. -
Review from Dave W.
I love burgers and had high expectations for Stackhouse. The menu is mouth-watering. But my experience was dismal.
I came here at 8pm on a Sunday night, thinking it wouldn't be crowded. I got table immediately but was surprised how many people were there. I was also surprised by the clientele--young, all male, loud as hell douchebags. The decor, menu and obviously the prices are upscale, but there was a weird mismatch between that and the customers.
The service was non-existent. The lone bartender was also waiting all the tables, and he seemed to have no experience whatsoever in that department. Every request took forever. I don't fault him; I fault the manager of the place for having only one person on staff.
And then there was the food. I had the pancetta burger with the side salad instead of fries. The dressing on the salad was very good, as were the edamame in it. But the burger? Meh. The meat was overcooked and lacked flavor. The pancetta was also overcooked but more flavorful. I couldn't even taste the cheese, onions, butter lettuce or tomato in there. The bun was soft but I've had better. Nothing about this burger made me swoon. And for $15, it's just not worth it.
Also odd: there are only two beers on tap, both of them uninteresting. Plenty of bottles and cans (cans? in a place like this), but they're not great, either, and the prices are ludicrous.
You want a better experience? Walk four blocks north to the Loose Moose and get the burger for $5.95. Much better service, better beer selection, and way better prices. -
Review from Vic K.
Grrrrreat place. Stopped by with a couple friends for lunch, this was my second visit.
The burgers arent your run of the mill "bread, burger, bread" crap. They are delicious and satisfying. I ordered the Ahi Tuna, one of the yummiest (and probably healthy) burgers ive ever had... they deserve an award for it.
Ok so its not cheap, but when your located on Granville, rent's expensive so i understand. People on a budget might get scared, but trust me your tastebuds will be satisfied. Im glad to pay their asking price for a delicious meal, and i will be back to try the other burgers on the menu. Now if these burgers cost more than $20, id take off a star, but honestly think its worth it.
Go to McDonalds or Burger King. Order a double bigmac/whopper combo with fries and a coke... its gonna run about $12. These guys charge $14-18 for an amazing gourmet well prepared burger with thick fresh fries... is it really that expensive when you put it in perspective? Stop complaining people.
My picky friend from LA who is hard to impress loved her meal... I knew this was a good idea for lunch!! ;) -

After our third time, I thought I would write a review since the quality is consistent. We have tried 5 different burgers and they are all 9/10. The brioche bun is a nice touch, the fries are crisp and the salads are fresh and not smothered in dressing. I am not from Quebec, but I thought the pouting was actually pretty good.
The service was good and the server gave us a little top up on our wine, which was a nice touch.
Great experience each time.. -

Nice little space on Granville St.
I love it when burger joints have sliders - bite-sized goodness! We ordered the Stackhouse sliders - prime rib mini burgers (with pancetta, portabellini, cheddar, chipotle aioli and butter lettuce). Sadly, the sliders were on the dry side, although the flavor was good.
They also make a pretty mean Caesar- the right amount of spicy :) -
Review from tee a.
Modern, open concept and a tilted mirror in the front to capture all your best angles.. This place was packed on a Thursday night. We came by for a quick bite prior to the yelp event..
On the menu:
Poutine:
instead of cheese curds and gravy, they used bocconcini and a demi glaze.. original and tasty
Stackhouse sliders:
they looked really tasty, but ended up being a bit too dry..
Drinks:
on the menu, they had mystery cans of beers aka. specials for the month which I thought was pretty cool.. I opted for the gin and tonic.
Verdict: I like this place but don't yet love it.. I'll definitely be coming back to give it one more try. -

Hands down the BEST burger I have not only had in this city, but ever, PERIOD! The place is ultra sleek, floor to glass ceilings and unique lighting and a happening stand up bar. The stunning mural of wild wolves across the back wall is awe inspiring. The selection of burgers is delicious. But their classic burger with Prime rib, slivered red onion, perfect pickles, crispy pancetta, portabello mushroom and a brioche bun is nothing short of perfection. I have had both the fries and tossed salad, both are exceptional. If you side with the frites, I highly recommend the selection of house made aoli's to go with them (the chipotle is my favourite). It seems down right impossible to get a good burger, let alone a great burger in Vancouver, but this place has set the bar above and beyond. When you think of a burger, think Stackhouse, you will never look back!

This place was recommended to us at one of the clothing shops we stopped by and luckily it was a block away from our hotel... It was a great recommendation.
Stackhouse burger!!! Delicious!!!! 6.5 oz local prime rib patty with pancetta, portabellini, Guinness cheddar, chipotle aioli and butter lettuce served on a brioche bun. Juicy! goodness! Yummmo!!! And the fries that it comes with was very good too.. They give you a good amount of fries. My friend ordered the dungeness crab burger and that too was a delicious selection.. You can taste the crab with every bite...
This place had a great ambiance. Theres a window where you can look into the kitchen and see them grilling your food..The decorations were pretty interesting too, they had cows with knives pointing at them.. pretty funny!Listed in: Vancouver, BC

Review from Steven S.
I am sure that Stackhouse burgers are great, everyone seems to say they are, my friend and I will never know. Tonight (a Sunday) I talked my friend into going to stackhouse because the word of mouth was so good.
Here is where it went wrong we entered the place and took our seats, it seems the staff was too concerned with separating the tables from a 10 top to drop of a menu or say Hi. My friend went to the bar to get a menu and we settled in. a few minutes later the server came by to inform us that there was no beef in the resto, none and only one chicken left. They said they we busier than they thought, so no beef.
First if you are a "Burger" bar and your place has no Beef you should state it on the door at least, maybe mention it when someone comes in. Or shut your doors.
We decided to leave and the staff just grunted and did not even offer a discount card to try and get use to give them another shot.
My only conclusion is that they are not prepared to be open, and or they do not seem to care about customer service.
I am hoping they get their beef sourcing figured out or they will soon find themselves without beef in their seats. -

Came here with the girls and we had a really great time.
Decor: 5/5
Arty, modern, simple, bright. Low hanging lights. Hand-stamped placemats. Bench seating. Giant windows. Very happy and bright.
Food: 3/5
Burger- My portobello burger was blackened too much for my liking (burnt food grows hair on your chest, right?).
Bun- MELT in your mouth delicious! I've never had a bun that practically dissolved on my tongue before. Oh my Gawsh was it good.
Fries - Plain Jane. Compared to Rogue or Romer's fries, these are nothing special... dipping into plain ol' Ketchup made me realize how spoiled I've become.
Side salad- Quite nice! Mixed greens, an effervescent sauce with edamame beans. I was sold on those beans!
I enjoyed the burger (mostly the bun), but I'd order the Kobe next time. Jule's Kobe oozed with juices that begged me to steal a bite. Too bad for me she happily gobbled it up. Who can blame her? It was a pricey $21 burger but the quality difference was evident. I wouldn't get the fries again though. I've been spoiled with exciting ones for too long ; p
Parking: Right out front on the sidewalk! Score.
Overall:
Not bad! I'd come back. -
Review from Garth C.
Oh man I really wish I could give 3.5 stars right about now but since i've only been there once at lunch I felt starting at 4 stars is only fair.
To start with I love looks of the place, modern sleek clean looking burger bar. The place feels crisp and clean and comfortable. The huge windows make for great people watching while you enjoy your burger.
The staff were very friendly and prompt. They are enthusiastic about the place and you can tell they try their best to ensure you are having a good time.
Now to the important part, they real reason why you come to this place, the burgers. Overall I would say they are average for what you pay. I had the Stackhouse burger which consists of: prime rib patty, pancetta, portabellini, guinness cheddar on a brioche bun.
First the bun, brioche buns are nice but It's not my thing on a burger. They are a little to rich and a tad on the sweet side so for my tastes they don't seem to match with the meat.
Next the meat, prime rib patty. The meat was pretty good but could use a little more seasoning. I don't think i'm sold on using prime rib over something like ground chuck, then again I work with computers not food so i'm no expert here.
The cheese? Well i'm not sure how much Guinness cheddar really adds to the overall product compared to some of the other aged cheddars out there.
Would I come back? Sure I would, but right now it's not a place that I would put on my regular lunch pick list.
Since I really want to see this place succeed here's a suggestion for the owners:
You use some great high end ingredients in your burgers which is nice, but sometimes the best burgers are the simplest ones. Offer me a burger with fresh regular buns baked that morning with a simple aged cheddar and a ground chuck patty with some of your seasonings. If i had the choice between something like this at $10-$12 over the Stackhouse burger, this would win 9 times out of 10, it could even convert me from a casual eater to a regular lunch visitor.Listed in: Meat on a bun is why I come

Out of nowhere, this sly fox leaps into the gourmet burger scene annihilating the competition of inferior cattle peddlers.
Attending a pre-opening party, I got to sample their menu before the official opening date on Feb 14/11. Yah, this place is going to do really well. Quality ground cuts of meat, streamlined menu, stark decor, many many knives on the wall are some of the features here, nice cutlery too (super pointy knives!).
My burger was the Stackhouse Burger: 100% ground prime rib (which is the status-quo here for burger meat), with Guiness cheddar, pancetta, and portabello mushroom. It came with fries ( or salad), which were hand-cut and tasty. $14 It blew away anything I have had from Romer's. The meat was perfectly tender and tasty and the toppings didn't overwhelm you.
We got a trio of aioli to dip our fries and amazing side order of cleanly battered, almost tempura like onion rings into. My favourite was the truffle aioli, and the cilantro one was decent too.
This place will go off when it opens, enjoy. -
Review from Eva B.
The Stackhouse serves up a classic concept with a modern yet whimsical twist. The execution of which is beyond excellent. The decor at first may seem stark, but the devil is in the details. For example, on sheet of steel above the kitchen window are placed a fleet of magnets shaped like kitchen knives swarming a bisected cow. Or the paper place mats stamped with voracious foxes leaping from the corner. In general, the layout and fixtures are all very well thought out, thus maximizing space without sacrificing style.
As for delectable delights we sampled a few items on the menu. We of course had burgers which were clearly cooked from fresh, not frozen ingredients. The patties were juicy, huge, well seasoned and perfectly grilled. The butter lettuce and the soft bun were a nice addition. Friends ordered the sliders and they were apparently just as good in mini form. The accompaniments included a fresh green salad, lightly dressed, and fries. We also tried the onion rings which were tasty and perfectly cooked. I was pleased to see that the onion inside was firmly fastened to the crispy outer coating. We were all fairly impressed with the items we were served. In fact, a friend commented that, "The staff must be proud to serve such good food." I think they must be too.
As they just opened a week ago I still think they have to take some time to organize the staff, but I definitely can't say they were not attentive on what was a really busy night. I also have to let you know that the DJ the night I was here was awesome. I hope the music is that good next time I come back. -

The space is very cool, reminds me of New York. Its stark, but still has a warm ambience. The owners gave us excellent recommendations on what to drink/eat; service was prompt and laid back friendly.
We enjoyed some bourbon cocktails, good attention to detail with the ice cubes. We had the crab burger and kobe beef burger. The crab burger is really just a crab cake between brioche, so we should have done with the owners recommendation for the tuna! The kobe beef burger was awesome, butter lettuce, onions, brioche bun. We had an order of fries and an order of salad. Fries were hot, fresh, perfectly seasoned and served with one of the many types of aioli. S

Took us three months of bus riding by to finally stop the bus and get off for a Friday night dinner with our 2 teenagers. Positive impressions start to finish. Love the floor to ceiling windows (and it's a high high ceiling) with upscale minimalist decor (white walls with entertaining art - definitely eye catching and mouth chatterable.)
We sampled Portabellini, Stackhouse, Pancetta and Kobe burgers and they got yeahs from all. Brioche buns were a tad high and with the thick meat made for quite the mouthful. But delicious mouthfuls. Buns seemed 'sweet and rich' which paired with meat wasn't to my hubby's liking Fries stayed piping hot long time though which meant slow eaters still enjoyed them at their prime.
Had a great laugh being served wine in a regular juice glass! Happy to leave pretentiousness elsewhere. What's more important - the wine, or the vessel? Good wine.
Treat of edamame beans in the salad. The nicely dressed mild vinaigrette was a welcome change to thick house dressings that tend to be the norm in even pricier places.
Please drain the meat a bit before plating. But please keep the quality cutlery as it's a sign that the owner-brothers value the little things too.
Just as important as their food, was their super service. Fast, friendly, attentive, comical, personable - proof they've found their groove after initial start-up glitches. The crew just seemed to fit in and it was appreciated when Lukas told us the history, who owns it, etc.
Super place. You'll do well. We'll be back soon! -

Since my nickname is 'Burger' (long story!) I pride myself on being somewhat of a connoisseur. I was surprised this place wasn't busier at 1pm because the ahi tuna burger I devoured was incredible. I was also happy to be able to have fries and salad instead of having to choose between the two. The lady friends I was with seemed equally happy with their burgers especially the kobe.
The decor is modern and simple which works very well for a high end burger joint. Our server was very patient because with all the girl talk it was probably hard for him to get our attention at times! I would definitely got back and try something else on the menu because there were some pretty crazy looking burgers including crab.
This Burger is a fan of Stackhouse Burger Bar! -

But for the high prices, I'd rate the Stackhouse a 4-star (what can I say, I'm a value eater). I feasted on the Stackhouse burger, which is like having three of its burgers - the sirloin, a portobello and even a piece of pork product, which I do not remember now.
A very delicious burger; I came to the Stackhouse on the recommendation of a publication that called the Stackhouse the best burger in Vancouver. I'm still on the quest for that burger. -

I'm a classic kind of guy so I tried the Stackhouse Burger and my partner tried the Kobe. The burger was cooked perfectly and the bun was also fresh. My one complaint was that they could have drained a bit more grease off the burger before serving it. My bun was a little soggy from the drippings, which is a personal turn off. The fries were good, but they just don't measure up to the seasonings at Romer's.
Quality ingredients make this place one of the better burger bars in town, but it still doesn't quite live up to Romer's. Nonetheless, this place is a welcome addition to the Granville strip.
PS. That poutine sounds good enough to make a future trip! -

The interior design of the restaurant is nice with lots of white/chrome and modern lines (except the giant mural of snarling wolves, which is pretty ugly). The service was mediocre. Our waitress seemed to be the only one working, but despite a nearly empty dining room, we had to wait a long time for her to come with menus and take our drink orders. When our drinks ran dry, we had to wait a long time before she came close enough that we could flag her down for refills.
My husband ordered the Stackhouse burger with salad and I had the crab sliders with fries. It was worth the wait. My husband is very picky when it comes to his burgers, and he was more than satisfied with the Stackhouse burger. The beef was juicy and flavorful as you would expect in a gourmet burger. My crab sliders were also delicious. Sliders at many restaurants have a tendency to be dry, but the crab patties were the perfect balance between moist and crispy. The fries were perfect, in my opinion. Medium cut, hot and fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside, lightly salted. Mmmm!
I took off one star because of the mediocre service. When you're paying that much for burgers, the service should be great. However, the burgers are delicious. I'm sure we'll be back. -

Located on Granville Street across from Ginger Sixty-Two in the Granville Entertainment District, Stackhouse Burger Bar is stacking up some quality and unique burgers. Opened by the entrepreneurs behind the ex-Crime Lab, this new restaurant is very burger lover's paradise. The ambiance is unpretentious but tres chic with modern and minimalistic décor - clean white space featuring white oak bar tops, white stools, grand white oak mirror and simple light fixtures. This is a perfect place for a casual gathering with friends or drinks with your buddies.
The menu features "Burgers and Sliders with a Twist" - from Burgers of the Seas like the Ahi Tuna Burger with miso aioli and watercress, Dungeness Crab Burger with Panko bread crumbs to the traditional Kobe Burger with Guinness cheddar, caramelized onions and truffle aioli. All Stackhouse burgers are served on a soft and sweet brioche bun baked daily with Butter Lettuce. Ingredients are sourced locally from Alberta AAA freshly-ground prime rib, Fraser Valley free-range chicken breast, Pacific Yellow fin Tuna to West Coast Dungeness crab - You can definitely taste the Quality.
For lunch, I had
Pancetta Burger $14 - featuring 6.5 oz prime rib patty with pancetta, guinness cheddar, chipotle aioli, butter lettuce on a brioche bun. The patty was very juicy and flavorful grilled to perfection. I really enjoy the use of pancetta instead of bacon - it adds a nice smokiness to the flavor profile of the burger. The fries are fresh but not the best - I've had better.
Overall, I enjoyed the quality burgers that Stackhouse brings to the table; however, the service at the restaurant was below average and also the location of the restaurant is not the best. We sat by the window and were greeted by a few homeless individuals throughout the meal.
Food - 4 stars
Ambiance - 4 stars
Décor - 4 stars
Service - 3 stars
Value - 4 stars -

Just had lunch here...
What makes this place stand out is the decor. Its very white and clean. Like if Apple were going to open a burger restaurant, it would look like this. Actually... I think the bartender was on a Macbook.
The food is pretty tasty. The chicken burger (like everything else on the menu) comes with some upscale delicious toppings. The veggie and beef burgers got positive reviews from my tablemates as well.
The only thing I'd like to see is the option for some different buns. From what I could tell everything came on a brioche bun. A ciabatta bun would be dope second option.
I'll still check this place out a few more times to try what else they have.
... and to enjoy the surreal animal artwork on the walls. -

For my very first yelp review, sadly, I'm going to begin with "I wanted to like this place."
I went in here for lunch. We had only an hour. We had great seats. Apparently, two of the waitstaff didn't show up. So we waited and waited before we were even given our menus. The people sitting next to us--who had been there longer--waited just as long. I mean, this was a weekday lunch, when one, (a restaurant owner) is supposed to be prepared for people.
The guys were nice and apologetic, the burgers were great and the onion rings were pretty decent. (Although my companion thought that his burger was too dry). Then we got the bill. I couldn't believe that they deducted nothing off the bill at this price and after this terrible service. I sure enjoy my burgers, esp. after living in the US, and even after reading the brilliant Fast Food Nation. And sorry to say, but this was not worth the price even compared to spendy cities like NY and LA. I know that the waiter was stressed, but relieve some of everyone's stress, and at least comp the pop!
I left them a fine tip since I am not a cheap diner, and I know that they seemed to try. But would I return? At this rate, I would rather give Romer's another shot, or even the White Spot. Sorry guys, but you're going to have to do better than that service wise for a $50 dollar lunch (and this was without an alcoholic drink!).
Stackhouse, take note; examine why places like Earls and Joeys are so successful: they offer service, efficiency and not to mention--good looking servers. (not that looks matter!) And the food is pretty good. At the same time, these places would deduct anything unsatisfactory from the bill without question. In fact, their reactions would be apologetic rather than apathetic.
Had these guys even made an effort to apologize, I would have contemplated a return. Instead, I gave them their requisite tip, wished them good luck and decided to write my first review. The location will probably keep them going, but there are too many places to get decent burgers and service in this town for that to make it a sure thing. After all, we were ordering burgers, not kobe steak.
