If your ever in the burbs , check out this place. Great pub to watch the hockey games . Great service and great eats !
Everyone is your friend at this pub , awesome social atmosphere .
Ask for Rylie Ableman , tell him Sam Kassem recommended this place and he will take care of you !

Decent pub if you're in the area.
I had the California chicken burger because the avocado and goat cheese aioli sounded sexy.
I opted for the daily soup, jerk chicken, which was very good. Pretty good for an Irish place! I like the potato (?) bun that they used. Welcome change from the typical lame bun used at most places. My only critique would be more sauce.
Service was super friendly. Overall, definitely an upgrade from greasy pub food. -

I was here with friends and family on a Sunday morning. There was a super loud group of desperate housewives that were on their second bottle of sparkling wine and tequila shooters when we arrived, and the cackling cacophony was so loud that it was nearly impossible to have a conversation at our table. Add in the drunken overweight dude with the big gold chain who was kept buying them more drinks and attempting to charm them with his beat poetry ("why does it hurt when I pee/because my girlfriend cheated on me! HAW HAW! HAW!") and you've got a recipe for a no-fun time at St. James Well.
The food was not really worth mentioning. Not terrible, but not good either. I had the crab, cheddar, and guinness soup and it was passable. I ordered a plate of yam fries for the table and they were barely warm and soggy when they arrived. I can't speak for my dining companions because it was nearly impossible to ask them how their food was over the mating call of the drunken suburbian ladies in waiting. Just a note to the folks at St. James's Well - it's okay to ask the one super loud table of drunken people to quiet down when a) it's 11:00 am on a Sunday, b) every table within 25 feet winces in pain at the high pitched shrieking, and c) it's your fault for continuing to serve them even when one of the ladies looked like she had just struggled to her feet in a boxing ring and was being given a standing 8 count. I can't say I'll be back when I'm in Port Moody. -

Since I live around the corner, I find myself at The Well (as us locals seem to refer to it) quite often. They have a great selection of on-tap beers that are reasonably priced and their food is always edible.
It seems like they've had a few change-overs in the kitchen in the last year or two, but my favourites (turkey brie sandwich, fish n' chips, most of the traditional Irish fare) seem to remain on the menu through all of these changes. The food quality does seem to vary depending on time of day and day of the week. I suspect it probably depends on whether or not the head chef is around in the kitchen or not. As a general rule though, the food is always at least decent, and can actually be amazing on a good night.
This place is worth stopping in at if you find yourself in the tri-cities!Listed in: Neighbourhood Haunts

Oh, ye old stomping grounds. Growing up PoCoMo, there were few choices for proper pints and tasty pub food so it's no wonder why people flocked and still flock to the Well.
Richly lacquered millwork that shines (and if you look closely at the bar you might still be able to see initials carved in--not by me, but by some of the blokes that used to frequent the bar too), unmarked taps (full of lagers, ales and of course Guinness), a dart board, and a yummy menu! Mini yorkshire puddings, a brie, strawberry and turkey sandwich, Guinness Chowder...
I may not make it out to my home turf very often, but I have no troubles telling friends I'll meet them at the Well for a cheeky one when I do! -

My Doctor moved her office to Port Moody.
I could complain about the longer commute to go see her, but instead, I will focus on the fact that her move has opened a new culinary gate for me to experience.
Across the street from her office its an authentic Irish Pub called St. James's Well. I was looking for some good comfort food, so I thought why not?
I fell in love with the place the moment I entered. The thick wood accents and the stained glass windows gave the place such character! As soon as I sat down I was greeted by a friendly server who took my drink order right away, (Lions Gate Winter Ale) and offered me the dinner menu.
I was pretty pleased with the menu's offerings - aside from having pub favorites such as nachos and chicken fingers, their menu has a wide range of dishes, ranging from salads to full entrees. (Check out their menu here). I was also surprised to find out that their Executive Chef is none other than Shayne Shepherd, whose impressive resume includes CinCin, The Teahouse in Stanley Park, The Moustache Cafe, only to name a few. Right then I knew I was in for a treat!
Based on my server's suggestions, I started my meal with the stuffed baby yorkies appetizer - Yorkshire pudding stuffed with roast beef and topped off with horseradish, served with au jus for dipping ($10). I loved them. The portion was more than enough for sharing. The roast beef was so tender and juicy, it just melted on your tongue. I was worried that the horseradish would be too overwhelming, but no. It had just the right consistency and flavor.
I followed my appetizer with their Steak & Guinness Pie (beef slowly braised with Guinness stout, mushrooms, carrots & onions, topped with puff pastry ($14.00). You have your choice of salad, fries or soup with your meal, so I chose the Guinness, Crab, Corn and Cheese Soup. It was so good, I forgot to take a picture of it before I started eating. Seriously, I was half-way thru my soup and I thought "shoot". The pie was so good! Crusty and flaky on top, juicy and hot in the middle. You could really taste the Guinness stock as well. The meat was so tender, and it had big chunks of carrots and potatoes. Overall a very satisfying meal.
Just when I thought I couldn't eat another bite, my server suggested I try their Sticky Toffee Pudding - It came warm from the oven and with a generous scoop of ice cream on top. The cake was so moist, it had almost a carrot cake consistency. And the sauce? So awesome.
I literally rolled out of James's Well. It was a good meal. I think that I won't mind going to my Doctor's new office, after all. -

"The Well is the place to be in the Village"
Last night a friend and I went to St James's Well Pub aka "the Well" in Newport Village, Port Moody. I was not disappointed one bit! The food, Irish themed atmosphere and service was pretty darn good being a pub and its no wonder it's a local favorite.
We ordered delicious stuffed Yorkshire pudding with au jus and hot wings washed down with a pint o' pale ale. That's right, I am a woman and I love beer and wings!
I can't wait to go back for the beef dip and nachos which are apparently "a pile of goodness"...on a night when they have live music (every Friday and Saturday night!).
The pub is open 11am to midnight everyday and they even have a delicious brunch menu! I recommend the Brioche French Toast or the Well Breakfast- the rosemary potatoes are delish! -

I just can't put my finger on it...
The St. James Pub in Port Moody's New Port Village is the manic depression pub of all the ones I've visited. One day it's so good you leave the restaurant singing and spinning around on joy filled heels like Julie Andrews in the hills of Mondsee Austria, the next time you go, you're spewing a hideous, gaseous verbally abusive rant aimed at the chef who you sneakily suspect may be a rouge line cook from a neighboring fast food freak show on loan to purposely mess with your taste buds.
I don't get it.
I love the St. James Burger. The combination of fresh vegetables and secret sauce with their uniquely spiced lean hamburger meat is hands down the best burger in any pub. Their hot wings are any level you want them. Their mushroom caps are truly magical. Their butternut squash soup is so thick and creamy and rich you won't be sorry you sacrificed a calm evening for the runs. The best thing on the menu is their strawberry, brie and turkey (real turkey!) sandwich. If you have a chance to go there, order this sandwich. You won't be disappointed...
Unless you hit the place on a day it doesn't take its medication.
I've had the above on days when the St. James Burger tasted like it came from a cow living on the salt plains of Tulsa Oklahoma. When the mushroom caps left you with an illusion of good taste. When the only thing the strawberry, brie, turkey sandwich "gobbled" up was my money, leaving my "wattle" dangling in disbelief.
I just don't understand. Oh well, time to take my Prozak! -

Okay, so it's not the best food ever (it's not bad, mind you) but St. James's Well is a great place to meet up with old friends and catch up over drinks in a cozy environment. I make a point of doing a "bar night" with friends every time I visit BC and if I'm home around Christmas holidays we always nurse our hangovers here on New Year's Day. This place is within stumbling distance to my parent's Ioco Rd. home and I've always had decent service. The food over the years seems about the same but I pretty much only order the fish and chips (for some reason they don't do a lot of fish and chips in California and I always crave them). A little added bonus is that there always seems to be good looking men here. I ask... where were all these guys hiding when I lived here??? Anyway...
Decent place for pretty much standard food and (what I'm told since I've never had a beer in my life) a good beer selection. I'm a fan of the warm, woody Irish pub decor. The parking situation however kind of sucks (I've had to do like a hundred point turn just to get out of that stupid parking garage below).
Overall, a comfortable place to relax with your friends and family.Listed in: Oh Canada!

Great atmosphere. Good food for a pub. Super loud but hey it's a pub. The parking is great, close and lots of it. I went on a weekday in the evening and it was packed. Lots of TV's and the staff are very friendly. The live music was amazing, so good! Will go back for sure.

I love to go there on Monday night! There is a special crab and I love it! The beer are good! On the summer you can drink a white beer from France that is delicious and very refreshing.
The atmosphere is very friendly!
We go there very often even we live in downtown Vancouver! -
Review from Jenni B.
I really love the decor in St James pub and they serve up a decent pint. However the place is very small so if you are not there early it is likely you will not even get standing room. There is an outdoor patio area but that is less trendy in winter time so the pub just gets packed. They have live music, which I like, but I find it a touch loud for the size of the place.
Overall, this is a decent pick to go to with friends. -

The food is good classic pub fare -- but it used to be so much better. Where did that tasty fried onion appy go? That being said, it's still a great place to kick back with friends, a beer, and maybe a jar of homemade pickles.

Great atmosphere, horrible food. Had calamari to start which came out more like onion rings than calamari. Had the chicken burger and chicken was dry and tasted horrible. Seems like a good place to have drinks with friends but not for food.
