I really enjoy this library. It's very user friendly, has a decent multi media section and is really close to my condo so it's easy access. Coming from Vancouver I am a little surprised that I had to pay an annual membership of $30. All of this kind of stuff is free but I guess BC'ers also get taxed a lot more to pay for these services.
I will be coming here often and I can't wait to check out the St Albert Farmers Market in the parking lot across the street! -

The library is so popular in St. Albert that they're looking to branch out! That's such good news that people in the suburbs value reading so much that this library has become overcrowded with books and that there's a demand for another branch.
As I approached the library, there were tables outside with books on top and underneath them. There was a sign saying the books were a dollar each except for the kids' books which were fifty cents. I can never pass up a good deal on a book so I was drawn to this and browsed for a bit. I found two books that looked interesting - one about dream interpretation and tarot cards, the other was a classic, "The Feminine Mystique." It was like hitting a goldmine with that one! I'm all about finding certain rare and out of print books.
I noticed another sign above the tables saying that if the library is closed to insert payment for the books through the book return slot. Interesting. Yet another sign said the library can't take anymore book donations, they simply don't have the space.
I went inside to pay for the books, set off the alarm. The guy at the counter said the total for the pair was one dollar. Cool! I scrounged my pockets and change purse but didn't have a dollar. He asked how much I did have. Turned out I had fifty cents. I offered to use debit but he said that fifty cents would be fine. Wow! Best deal ever!
I did a brief walkabout of the library for old times' sake. Aside from some technological advances such as self-checkouts (cool!), it looked very much like I fondly remembered it. It felt good to be there. I went upstairs and saw students on laptops and at the internet terminals, a coin-op coffee dispenser and loads of wonderful books.
The library is home to a book club that anyone is free to join. There are storytimes for the kids. Every summer since I can remember they've had the infamous summer reading game to keep the kids busy.
