Review from Edwin A.
You'll be sweating like buckets!!
A couple of days ago I was talking to Jennifer K " the walking yelp search app" and she mentioned to me that's she's been spinning at a studio in Thornhill. Ok that's nearby where I am tell me more. Needless to say a couple of days later I found myself signing up for 2 class trial offer for $20.
It didn't take much convincing as I'm all gung ho on fitness. I go to a gym nearby and we have upright bikes there, but I was more curious than any to try spinning in a 'class environment'.
The studio is located on the upper most level of the plaza on Disera Dr which is just opposite the Promenade Mall. There's plenty free parking available at the back.
I took the flight of stairs up to the second level. No Spynga signs posted but I found it a few paces down the hallway.
Layout:
The layout is very loft like, high ceilings, with an all white interior. There's a front reception area for the admin, around the corner there's two smaller rooms for private instruction, a few change rooms, and one seriously GINORMOUS studio space that houses the 30 Schwinn spin bikes. They use half of the area for bikes and the other half to run the yoga classes. It's a really big naturally lit facility.
They also sell their own branded Spynga apparel, bike shoes, organic products, drinks and have complimentary spring water.
Experience:
So there were three Yelpers (Jennifer, Wayne, myself) for the 10:10am class, plus 4 other people. Kind of empty, but good.
Prior to class start, we entered the studio a bit earlier to adjust the bikes (raised/lowered the seat, handle bar, height, inc/dec tension) and started our warm up.
The music was mostly top 40 dance, which I had no objections about. It was appropriate to get your heart racing! The instructor took us through a warmup and scenarios where we pretended to be climbing up a hill, or going flat out on the road. You learn 3 hand positions in the beginning which you will use throughout the session.
The instructor was lively and motivating -- keeping the counts. At times she got off the bike at the front of the class to come around and motivate and push us further..
We finished the 50min of cycling with a stretch then hit the mats for about 10 minutes for some grueling core exercises. I think I will have to take a day or two to recover from all this. :)
Thoughts:
Pace yourself according to your fitness level and class time allotted.
Have plenty of fluids available. Recommend 2 bottles of water.
There are gel seat covers at the front if you need them. I'd use them! :p
So how did I like this? It's paid torture but as soon as I regain the feeling back in my a$$ and arms (you do a lot of pushups on the bike surprisingly) I'd be back on the saddle. -

I really need to write an update review for Spynga.
Using my Groupon deal for a two weeks unlimited classes at Spynga and attending a couple of their Spynga Flow classes.. I think I am a little hooked? The spinning part is really intriguing and full of energy and the Yoga "Stretch" after is relaxing.
The staffs at the front desk are so friendly! One of them even greets and remember my name on the second class!
Great studio to switch your training routine. The yoga classes can use some improvement as most of them are really beginners level.
I still have problem with the code for the washroom down the hall......... and I definitely cannot come before work for a class because there are not where I can have a shower... so 4 star!Listed in: April 2012 Challenge: The…, Yoga Studios I visited in…, Passport To Prana 2010, Spinning

Now here is a studio that really gets the yoga fusion trend and takes it to a whole new level of awesome. I can't believe I didn't write this review earlier.
Spynga is the lean, well-toned love child of an intense spin class and a balanced, calming yoga sesh. The instructors are enthusiastic but tough like your jock-y grade eight gym teacher and they'll get you moving even if it is the last thing you do. Considering what goes on in the class, i'm surprised they got the entire studio to look so chic and elegant.
What to bring:
- Running shoes
- water bottle
- determination and the intent to have fun!
Don't want a spin class? They also have dedicated yoga classes.
Can't wait to be back!Listed in: Yoga Fire!, My 30-Day Yelp-athon: Nov

Went here a few times recently with a friend (got a free pass so I took advantage of it(
I tried thew Spynga Flow class (30 min on bike, 30 min yoga) - had Casey (one of the owners) as an instructor and had Yvonne as well
The yoga, spinning combo is really good; get a strong cardio workout and then get an amazing stretch and cool down afterwards (definitely recommend it)
They have a huge variety of classes from just spinning to just yoga to burlesque-style class
You feel very comfortable there and the studio is very clean, white and quite nice, in my opinion
They also have everything for you (yoga mats, towels, and any other equipment like a bicycle seat cover, etc) and they have these great popped chips u can grab for free on your way out
Everyone is very friendly and the instructors will look out for you if you tell them its your first time; they also will stay later and chat if you have any questions
The only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is the price .. it is SUPER pricey; even if you buy the year unlimited membership (which is the cheapest option) it's still like practically double a regular gym membership ... it's def hard to justify spending THAT much when there are MUCH cheaper options that offer spinning, yoga and a variety of other options
