I really dug this place when I first hit the door but it only hit me as a 4 star place and took a little sitting and hanging before I got understand why so many people give this place the five star treatment. One has to get used to a few things here, accept the differences and then learn to love them. I took all of these steps in under an hour and a half. The place is surprisingly spacious, especially in a downtown location. There was a very high rectangular bar, a number of tables and a back bar counter as well. There was plenty of seating but it was placed in a way where there was plenty of room for people to stand as well. This suggests  they expect a crowd in here. This bar is a well light as well as spacious place with whiskey signs and mirrors on the wall, a lot of exposed brick, a small stage, a shuffleboard table and a few other bar games to play.

I came in for happy hour and had to wait a bit to find a seat at the bar. The music began really early and I was surprised hear it. If I was coming in after work with some people I wanted to talk I might have found the loudness annoying but the guy playing was actually pretty good. He played guitar and sang an eclectic variety of music and looked frightening like Robert Earl Keen..but of course it wasn't. All different types of people, blue collar, white collar, hipster, older and younger were hanging out Friday evening.  I was put off by the can only selection of beer at first. That's right there are no drafts or bottles here but they offer just about every high quality beer found in cans that exist hso there is a much better selection than one might think. Happy hour was not the best deal ever at cheap wells and 50 cents off every beer. It was not the deepest discount but at least it was discount on more than a just few selections where Shiner Bock or Michaelob Ultra are not considered domestics. So it is a trade off here for happy hour but I was wiling to deal with it and took the opportunity to try some exotic canned beers I had never had before.

The staffed were just a bit overrun at times but there seemed to be no waitresses working the floor and surely that can't be the case all the time. I never take off points for a staff that is working their butts off but are just too outnumbered to be perfectly johnny on the spot. If they had one or two more servers working as hard as the others, I bet the service would have been great.

Okay, been a couple of times, not a bad place.
    We went to eat.

4.5 stars for the Burger!!!   It was really good, one of the best in the city.
    Good job guys.

Rest of food we had, not bad, but not a peer.
Service was okay, not overly attentive.
Hate that they have no real tables inside, only high chairs.
This ensures no chance for a 4 star from me.
Also, name is stupid.  I am hard to offend, and just think
from a business standpoint that was a poor decision.
Goes with the White Trashing of America.

Not a bad place for food, but cannot say I am a huge fan
of anything but the burger - and that I was a fan.  Bun was good also.

Finally, I took a moment to check out Spread Eagle.  Upon entering, you sit yourself. I was solo so I copped a chair at the bar. The bartender asked my name, and addressed me by my name my entire visit. It was lunch, so it wasn't crazy!

I can appreciate, very much so, that they prepare their "bar food" in house. Of course, I had to order the Sirloin Burger. It was much better than I thought. The choice of meat was nice and filling. Almost tasted kosher. The patty was cooked just right, not too rare and far from well done. There was a surprising taste of chipotle and crispy onions in every bite. The lettuce and tomatoes on the burger were nice and fresh. Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about. It makes my tummy pout when I see sad lettuce and tomatoes on a burger. No mustard or mayo is needed. A burger you can actually eat just as it is brought to your table. I can't forget the onion rings! They were lightly breaded and perfect. A guilty pleasure for sure. Believe it or not, all this was for 7 bucks at lunch. Where else does that happen at?!?! And be goooooooooood?!?!

Now I just need a blue mat! I will be back to try out their drinks. Their drink list looks pleasing. Plus I must go back for some dart and shuffleboard time.

You don't have to spread your wallet's flaps far to enjoy a stint at the Eagle!

I've only been for lunch, but have noted the drink/happy hour specials as well as the atmosphere. The space features a stage, lots of recreation (pool table, shuffleboard, darts), a nice squared-U bar, and several TVs. A nice little sports bar this is!

The lunch menu is very affordable. For a sit-down joint, I know no Downtown digs that are this cheap. The burger (sirloin) comes with fries or onion rings (both good options) for $7. $7!!! That might get a sandwich at Which Wich, if you're feeling stingy. Refillable sodas/teas are only $1.75. And the people on staff are always friendly and attentive.

I plan on making my happy hour run soon. Looking forward to one of several appealing afternoon drink specials to wash the worry away after work.

    Give Eagle a chance!

Great bar, bigger than it looks from the outside, nice and clean.  I got there earlier than they usually open because I was the only one in there and the owner (I think, cool dude tho) said he opened the place early to watch the soccer game.  None the less I had some local brews and a few shots of fireball, and was on my way.  But it looked like a place someone could really have a blast at on a Friday night, they have a stage for live music too.

I almost gave up on this place after circling around looking for parking.  I forgot you can't park at certain meters before 6 in downtown.  Then my wise friend text me to tell me there was a parking garage just down the street.  Awesome!

This place sort of reminds me of the Elbow Room with the dart boards, pool table and shuffle board.

All beers are in cans, and they were out of the two I tried to order so the waitress suggested another option, and I really liked it.  I'll edit this if I can remember the name.

We only stayed for one beer, because we weren't in the mood to listen to the dude on stage signing.

I'm not a downtown dweller, and have Deep Ellum in my back yard, so I don't know how soon I'll be back.  It is nice to have options, though to watch games or go to for happy hour.  I would like to come back and try the burger.

This. Is. Exactly. What. Downtown. Needs.

If you live in downtown, you know that things aren't always 'bustling' in the nightlife department, unless you're a fan of Plush. (Ew.) Then, we got the Chesterfield. A little pricey, but a great addition. And nowwwwwww we have Spread Eagle, which is what I would describe as City Tavern's sportier cousin.

It's a little more casual. There's a pool table, shuffleboard, 2 dart boards and one of those touchscreen jukeboxes. Oh and even better? The drinks are strong and cheap. No drafts, only cans. In Downtown? Are you crazy? Misplaced? No, Spread Eagle Saloon, you're not. You're brilliant. Stay just the way you are. And I love you.

I've been following their FB updates and apparently from now on they'll have live music Thurs-Sat. Double yay!

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I haven't tried the food. And the only reason I haven't tried the food is because I was basically standing in line on during the soft opening, and I think both times I've been was before the 'official' opening

Thank God a regular bar finally opened in downtown!  What do I mean by "regular bar"?  A place with beer, darts, shuffleboard, and good music.  Spread Eagle Saloon has all those things AND giant barrels of peanuts that you can snack on.  I'm not into the ultra lounge scene that was once dominated the nightlife of downtown Dallas.  With some of the recent openings we're starting to get a good variety, and this was an important add.

If you're a fan of the Deep Ellum bars, but live in or tend to frequent downtown, I recommend you come check this place out.

My husband and I stopped by on a Friday night after a long work week.  We are glad that they are now serving food.  He had the burger and it was very good.  It was much better than Chop House Burger around the corner.  I had some sort of a pork sandwich.  It was not what I expected but it was fantastic.  The mustard they use is pretty spicy.  The onion rings were to die for.

The bartender who waited on us was very accommodating.  I wanted a nice vodka drink so he made one for me that he thought I would like and I did.  He's creative in his mixology.

I really like the laid back atmosphere.  It is a great bar to hang out with friends.  It is not pretentious which is what downtown needs.  The prices were very reasonable.  We will be back again and again.

Great addition to Elm Street in downtown!  The Spread Eagle Saloon is exactly what downtown needs, a true bar!  Good happy hour specials, and even better real games to play: shuffle board, real darts, pool, and there should be live music coming soon.

The beer menu is ALL can beer, which is a pretty cool thing, you can drink it out of the can or pour it into a glass.   There isn't any tap beer or bottles, but with canning technology, it all tastes just about the same.  There is also a good selection of spirits, top-shelf, mid-grade and rail; good Scotch selections as well.

I can't wait until the kitchen is up and running, the food menu looks spectacular!  Stop on by, you'll be impressed!

One of our favorite new spots!! Great food for a bar. Honey glazed bacon and avocado on a turkey club! Yum. Good beer selection and great prices.

The vibe is perfectly laid back and yet fun and energetic mostly due to an amazingly eclectic music selection. Radiohead followed by Johnny Cash or The Buckinghams? WOW! Occasional live music is always good and always FREE!

Also, the owner is one of the nicest people in the world. That's always a good thing.

Don't let the weird name fool you.  This is destined to become the next great hangout bar among downtown Dallas locals.

Great food, a shuffleboard table, a pool table, great music, etc.   Another great addition to the downtown Dallas scene.

We checked this place out last night for a drink and had a nice time.  Kinda weird that they only had canned beer instead of bottled beer, but they did have a pretty interesting selection.  Seems like a locals bar and good if you are in the mood to play bar games, but nothing exceptional about this place.  Our bartender was very nice and friendly too!

I liked this bar when we tried it out one Saturday evening. Not crowded, good beer selection. Awesome darts, shuffleboard and pool tables. Stage for live music which they have Thursday - Sunday. Nice little patio area. All beers are cans, no draft :(.  I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and the bartender's Australian accent :). I hope the douches don't take it over.

Great addition to Dallas and a great place to stop in on your way home from work if you are downtown or passing through.
For the appetizers the pork stuffed jalapenos are one of a kind and fantastic.  Also the sauce that comes with them, spicy honey glazed shiner (or something along those lines), should be a dipping sauce for everything.
I have only had the Crispy Chicken sandwhich from the sandwhich portion of the menu and it was very good.  Huge piece of chicken and very moist.  The fries that came with it were also good, but I hear I need to go for the onion rings next time.
I plan to make this place a regular HH spot.

A good old fashioned bar in the heart of downtown. Has Darts and shuffleboard and good classic rock music. As far as the food goes, it tries to put a little upscale into usual manly type foods. Wings, burgers, white cheddar mac & cheese, meatloaf sandwich. I have been there for lunch twice now and service has always been very good and friendly.  . First lunch was the Sriracha bbq wings, they were very flavorful, but a little overcooked and not much meat on them for the size of the wings. My 2nd trip, I had the burger. It was a good flavorful burger and reasonably priced it was served with garlic mayo and ketchup and white cheddar cheese along with the other normal fixins. I did really like their fries. As far as burgers go downtown, it was much better than the pretentious Chop House Burger, on par with Press Box, but at a better price, but still have not found a burger better in taste and price than the one they make at Taco Borracho. My next trip will be to try the meatloaf sandwich. I hope it tastes as good as it looks. I'll let you know.
