Definitely the best pizza place in the area.  The pizza toppings are cut up nicely and not just slopped on.  They also offer a lot of toppings that most places don't, like artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes.  You can tell the toppings are fresh, as are the vegetables in the salads.  I usually always get a salad--they are excellent quality for a pizza place.  We were accidentally given a pizza roll once (the mediterranean one).  It wasn't something I'd normally order, but it was delicious.

A Wyandotte staple ever since they were located next to the old movie theater.
They have excellent pizza, salads and sandwiches! I highly recommend Sportsmans

I'm ashamed that I live near Sportmans and even worked next door in the past and never tried their pizza until now.  I wish I could go back in time and replace all the times i ate hungry howies, dominos, and little caesars with Sportsmans Pizzas!  It was one of the best Pizza I have tasted.  I have to say it should actually be called "gourmet pizza" because it is!

The name Sportmans always made me think it was going to be the typical pizza place but I was completely wrong.
The Veggie Deluxe was loaded with toppings you only find in the pricier gourmet pizza places.  How many local pizza places carry Zucchinis, Squash, Spinach, Feta, & Garlic Cloves?  I also judge how fresh their vegetables are and it passed the test! The mushrooms weren't from a can.  They looked freshly sliced.  The dough was crispy and chewy. A combination that is hard to find. My pizza was wasn't too greasy and oily.  Just enough grease from the cheese to have great flavor but not so much that it makes you feel like crap after you eat it.

Employees are very friendly and service was great.  Prices are reasonable since it's high quality pizza and you get a lot for the price.  It's now my new favorite pizza place in the neighborhood and I will be trying their other specialty pizzas such as New York White Pizza, Breakfast Pizza, Steak Quesadilla Pizza... They all sound amazing!

So....I couldn't resist; I went back and got a specialty roll (chicken cordon blue) and it was as good as it gets (see star rating above). The dough was so soft but again, really thin. The chicken was fresh and had no fat whatsoever. The ham was thinly sliced and the cheese was deliciously creamy. The only thing I didn't like was this side of garlic butter to drizzle on top of my roll. It was sweet and weird tasting for a butter sauce. BUT the roll was sooooo good, no sauce was needed.

And something else that is fantastic there?? The girls at the counter. They are oh so nice and prompt with service.

This place gets an added star since my second experience was even more delightful than the last. Plus, my nerdy side totally loves the cheesy muscle head dude on their website. He cracks me up for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Bottom line: check the site, cruise the menu, pick a roll, and GO HERE!

I was going to carry out from Supino this evening, but I could not wait an hour before heading home from Downtown.  Instead, I finally tried Sportsmans.  I have driven by this place for years, and have meant to try it after reading Sandra B's review.  Carry out only, it looks like any other Downriver storefront pizza joint.

They recently were named one of the top 25 Pizzas in Metro area by the Free Press and I wanted to see what the fuss was about.  I stopped in and asked the kid working there what he recommended, and I ordered a basic large cheese and pepperoni and a more loaded large pizza using a discount coupon he handed me.  20 bucks.  20 minutes later, I came back and the owner was just taking the pies out of the oven.  They looked and smelled wonderful.  I paid with my credit card, and I mentioned that the slip had no place for a tip, and the kid said "just come back soon, thats the best tip"  The owner was standing right there, and smiled.

I get them home, and dug in.  Wow...  the round deep dish cust was perfectly done.  The sauce was spicy and abundant.  The fresh veggies were FRESH and abundant.  The cheese was in perfect proportion to the rest of the pie.  Without a doubt, its the best pie Downriver.  A great value also.

I will try the pizza rolls next time and write an update.  Amazing.

Amazing.  Thats the best way to describe this place.

I no longer live in Michigan but every time I go back home I find myself ordering Sportmans.  They have wonderful pizza but the real reason I go there is for the pepperoni roll.

I have traveled all over the country and I have never seen any pizza type item come close to this pepperoni roll.  Its a stromboli / pizza roll combination that drips of grease and deliciousness.  It is stuffed full of any toppings you want but I think the original with sauce, pepperoni, and cheese is the best.

I highly suggest that everyone tries this place at least once.  You won't be disappointed.

I can honestly say I've not had pizza that gets much better then this. And then of course the pizza rolls which are greasy yet delicious.

Recommedations: The Double Play which is quoting the menu "thin crust, double hand cut pepperoni and double cheese topped with a sprinkle of garlic and grated parmesan cheese" The thin crust is perfect, slightly crunchy/burnt on the bottom but so heavy with cheese and pepperoni you've got to eat it almost like a new yorker would.

Also get the chorizo, it just makes pizza better. Seriously good stuff.

Their double decker spicy chicken pizza will make you sweat it's so spicy.

Also ask for the hand cut pepperoni it's much better then the regular pepperoni.

And don't forget it's take out or delivery only.

If there were 10 stars this would be a 10. The hubby and I (Brad) get carry out from here often. The owner usually greets me with a high 5 and thanks me for stopping back in just as he did today . I ordered the Reuben Roll (always) for myself and the home run roll for Brad. I love love love  the reuben. It is hands down the best I have ever had . We have eaten the pizza here as well it is sooooo good. This would be my last meal on earth if I couldnt get sushi for some reason.

Sandra B couldn't have said it any better.  I live in Chicago now, but I was home for the holidays recently and I couldn't wait to stop here and get a pepperoni roll.  They are just too darn good.  They have a lunch special with them as well... I believe currently for 5 dollars you get a roll and a 20 ounce soda.   The rolls are ready to go, so there's no wait.

Their Cheese bread is also very tasty.  I'd been getting that for years and years before they ever had their lunch special (the special goes all the way back to when they were blocks from the high school)

So the pizza is really good, but that is not why you go to Sportsman's.  For those of us who grew up in Wyandotte - we know what it's all about, but for the rest of you - two words - PIZZA ROLL!  It is the greasiest, tastiest thing you will ever have, and the best part is that you can get it for under $5!  They have been around for as long as I can remember, but they have only been at their location of Fort St. for about 10 years now.  Before that, they were in Downtown Wyandotte behind the theater.  All I have to say is (as I am drooling) they have really good pizza rolls!  Just eat is and don't worry about your diet until tomorrow.

I live a city over and have driven past this place for years but never tried it. I figured it was just another pizza place as there's tons of them in Downriver. Everyone claims to have the best or they act  like they "reinvented the wheel" when it comes to pizza, subs, etc. which are seemingly basic dishes.

So one day I was bored and wanted to do internet research for a new place (and hopefully a good place) to order from..

I was amazed that #1 Sportsman's Pizza even had a website unlike most area "mom and pop" places, plus a nicely laid out one at that #2. I could believe how big the menu was with tons of variety! I'm a huge salad fan and they have tons of those alone.

I'm trying to cut out meat so I ordered a veggie sub, a veggie pizza roll, and the Champion Salad. They surprised me again because with all of that AND delievery it was only like $22. Most place are $26-30 to have them bring it over based on what I usually get.

I'm a big eater but I had to have other members of the family help me with the veggie pizza roll when they got home.

For sure I will get them again.
