Sporting Life combines high quality athletic equipment with equally high quality lifestyle goods. You can find everything from a Tour de France-worthy racing bike to a Lacoste sweater and Top-Siders for your days off. In the winter, their selection of outerwear is unparalleled.
The staff are very knowledgeable about their products, and will not try to push something on you if it isn`t right, and they will openly tell you the benefits and shortcomings of each product. You will always be acknowledged, although if it isn`t busy, you may get 2 or 3 people asking you if you need help, which can be mildly irritating while browsing.
The stock is very extensive, although as a not-massive guy, smaller sizes are often sold out. Vanity sizing is now prevalent in almost all clothing resulting in a small fitting like a medium, a medium like a large, and anything tagged large and above is designed for someone the size of an aircraft carrier. Too often, you will find that your size isn`t carried or is sold out.
Pricing is very reasonable, often below average, and the LifeLine rewards program is excellent, especially if you are a family.
Also, if parking is a concern, there is a Sherway Gardens location with ample free parking -

Terrible location but excellent products and staff! :) I came here on a Sunday afternoon so parking wasn't a problem. I parked in one of the residential streets.

I go to Sporting Life primarily during the winter months. As a skier, I purchase most of my equipment from them and have it serviced here. On both fronts, I can't complain.
I also have a normal day job so I can't usually get out to SL until the evening or weekend. This usually means that I'm competing with large families who know little about their sport they're looking to get their child into, who monopolize every single staff member in the store. Last week when I went to pick up my skis I had to wait for about 20 minutes before finally being serviced by a manager who saw how p.o.'ed I looked. This was already in addition to the 30 minutes i spent waiting for a parking spot in their tiny lot.
Prices are slightly above average - but I get a discount so I can't complain. in the end though, if you need good service and good parking, I'd recommend Skis and Bikes. -

Sporting Life is a place I love to browse around and trying on clothes. They carries the latest fashions in ski jackets and down jackets.. both functional and stylish. Of course there is a price tag to match.
You can also found newest accessories for the sport persons as gifts and they are all of good qualities.
If you are into racquet sports, they do have demo racquets that you can sign out and try before you buy! I think that is an excellent service.
The staffs here are all professional and friendly and the selections is just great!
However, I usually go to the Sherway Gardens location though, since they have huge markdown all the time. But the staffs and the vibes are not as good as the Yonge Street location. -

The Life is was I like to call it! If every shop in Toronto were to dissappear today, I could most likely be content shooping exclusivly at The Life!
Let's break it down:
Ladies - from Prada to Burton
Mens - from Diesel to Volcom
Kids - Osh Kosh to Polo
Shoes - Treetorn to UGG
Accesories - Nixon to RayBan
They have just about everything you can imagine for all styles, and prices. There Boxing day sale is crazy. They also have sales everyweek on various items.
Their kids half back program on ski's is a must for any poor parent that has decided to put the kiddies into Skiing! Sign up for the LifeLine program at the cashier - you will get special offers in the mail, and they can be good sometimes!
My last word of advice...park on one of the side streets just south of The Life, the parking lot at The Life is insane!!! It will take you 20 minutes to get a spot, and probably just as long to get out!
Happy Shopping -

The folks at Sporting Life somehow manage to perfectly balance FUNCTION and FASHION in their immense stock of beginner to amateur apparel, accessories, and equipment. Though I prefer function, sporty spice girls and guys can find their fashionable gears here too.
Sporting Life has everything one needs to suit-up and gear-up for activities ranging from a mild increase in heart rate (e.g. walking and golf) to a serious sweat (e.g. running and squash), and everything in between (e.g. cycling and snowboarding). They also have in-house repair/tune-up shop that'll take care of bikes, skates, boards, etc. even if you didn't buy it there.
As much as I love this store, there are a couple wee reasons why I can't give it a full 5-star review:
a) the parking lot is a nightmare! and it's smack in the middle of the longish distance between Eglinton and Lawrence subway stations.
b) there's so much merchandise that the layout can look a bit crowded and confused in there.
c) i have to go elsewhere for more specialized sporting goods
in all, sporting life my favourite amateur sports store. -

A place for rich people to buy clothing and gear for rich person sports and for looking cool after they finish playing said sports. I don't mean this in a bad way and I'm half joking, but I do think it's important to be aware of Sporting Life's target market.
Sporting Life has excellent staff; knowledgeable, friendly, and never pushy. They have a ton of stuff packed into the store, but the layout is quite good. The brands are all top of the line and prices reflect that, but they do have some killer sales so keep an eye out. My rule is to never buy anything from Sporting Life that's regular price, if you do you're probably getting ripped off.
There's a large "fashion" section. I rarely go into this part of the store, the brands aren't really my style and are also super pricey. Think Lacoste, Fred Perry, and Penguin. They also have some really nice kids stuff. If this is your scene, you'd do well to browse this section of the store.
The sports and outdoors clothing and gear section makes up the remainder of the store. They have an excellent selection of outerwear for kids and adults. Brands like Canada Goose, Arc'Teryx, and Patagonia are well represented. I love browsing the fleece jackets and hard shells here. Their footwear section is also amazing and the staff know their stuff. You'll never screw around at Foot Locker or Champs after coming to Sporting Life for shoes.
Selection of clothing and gear is also good for running, golf, tennis, skiing and other, similar sports. Again, not my scene so I can't really comment.
Note that Sporting Life caters to people with cars, primarily expensive ones. So, if you're taking the subway it's a bit of a pain in the ass; you'll have to walk for 15 minutes up Yonge to get here.
If not for the high prices and annoying location this would be one of my favourite stores in Toronto. -

I've only really come here looking for winter sport equipment and this is THE place. Given it also probably carries the most expensive equipment in Toronto but given the selection, the really really helpful staff and the quality of the equipment, you really can't go wrong here.
If you're looking to go on a Ski / Snowboarding trip to a "real" mountain (I don't mean Blue Mountain - I mean Whistler, Banff, etc) then this is the first place to grab those dearly needed ski jackets that will save your life at the -50 degree peak of the mountain.Listed in: Yonge Street!

I'm not much of a sportsy person. I mean, I like exercising and walking, but I'm kinda an amateur at everything and anything sporty. Sporting Life is the store for me, because they make everything look so good, so much so that I just want to become a sporty person.
This Sporting Life is a cool shop. It's a fair size, stretched out on two storeys. They have a collection of bikes upstairs which is what we went to look at. They had a fair size snowboard stock, as well as shoes, clothes and other sporty things. I like this sporting life much better than the one on Avenue Road, it's more wholesome. Staffers were quite attentive and friendly, without being pushy... -

Horrible customer service! I went in to buy a winter jacket, couldn't get help until I asked the manager to find someone to help me and then the girl told me to come back another day. Maybe I'm missing something but I thought the idea was to get customers in the store to buy things versus turning them away and telling them to come back another day? I was prepared to buy a $500 jacket that day, now I won't ever step in that store again. Parking is terrible and the parking attendants aren't much help, two minor accidents happened waiting to exit parking lot.

LOVE this place for ski wear including apres skiwear. The selection is fantastic. The sales staff is very knowledgeable. If you catch a sale prices can be reasonable. Love it!!

Bought a Canada Goose jacket here full price - no discount because I can't handle cold weather. They never have anything on sale. All the good, expensive fancy stuffs. They cater to the rich neighbourhood.

The selection is great and a few staff members are extremely helpful. Unfortunately, I've had a few negative experiences with impolite staff at the Yonge location recently that changed my perception. I asked for help locating a certain item and a few didn't respond or said "I don't know" without looking at me. Also, several times staff walked agressively down my aisle and I had to jump out of the way, no "excuse me" or eye contact whatsoever. I'd be standing and looking at an item, not blocking the aisle, and an employee would walk at a rapid pace right at me until I moved, with no acknowledgement. It was a bit unsettling! Several employees did that to me alone and also with husband. One occasion, I actually felt intimidated by a tall young guy walking opposite down an aisle- it felt like a game of "chicken" with no eye contact. He won. He told his coworkers a joke, then left. I wondered if it was trained so they could travel efficiently? Working retail before, I absolutely understand having tasks to complete and people in the way, but I was suprised. The store was quiet with lots of pathways. Even slowing down or a quick "excuse me" would help. Luckily, we found an employee who was friendly and helpful (about 1 in 10, unfortunately). I loved going there before and had great service, so I hope it's temporary. The selection for winter coats and ski gear is excellent.
