Using my trusty yelp iPhone app we were able to find Splitz grill among the many restaurants in Whistler.

When you walk in, you immediately follow the crowd like a herd of sheep. Pick your item, order, and follow the line again. What I found impressive is that you can see them cook your burger plus you can fully customize it with the toppings.

For my wild turkey burger I added mushrooms (costs extra), Splitz sauce (amazing!), ketchup, tomatoes, lettuce, sprouts, and cucumbers. For the burger itself it was around $10 but it was worth every penny.

    Great option for vegetarians.
Spicy lentil burger with sprouts and splitz sauce is so good.
    The place is NOT cheap.
Also be prepared to rush through what you will want on your burger as the guys who prepare the burgers will want to know what you want on it....Like subway....except they dont have any patience and will charge you double.
you determine which kind of bun sauces and condiments....
and if its your first time, you can feel intimidated....show them who is boss and take your time...Ive seen them rush people along who were uncertain.....and it was uncomfortable...but all in all the food tastes great!!!

Okay. I don't want to get lambasted for this honest review, but I was expecting more from this place because of what I read on the boards.

The guys behind the counter were totally funny and personable and made for a cool vibe. Even the menu selection was great considering you get to design your own burger any way you want it (think Five Guys, enhanced).

However, a couple of things bothered me about this place. First, the guy handling all of the raw meat and cooking it was the same guy finishing my bun (using the same gloves) and grabbing a fistfull of my fries to serve to me. Now, I'm not a total germophobe, but isn't that called cross-contamination?

Second, the burgers are suuuuuuuuuper expensive here. I got a chicken burger with fries and a drink and spent almost $14. That's enough for a regular meal at a sit-down restaurant, not fast food.

I thought the burger was good and I didn't get sick, but it kind of grossed me out. I'd rather not pay $14 for someone to grab my burger and put all the raw veggies on it after he's just picked the raw meat up to cook with. Just sayin.

Great burger, a bit strange on the cooking process, but hey, it works!

I luv'ed my burger here, I guess because I got to pick and chose what I wanted on it!  The Splitz sauce is da BOMB!  And the fries were pretty good too!  I can't imagine the lines in this place during the winter, it must get packed!

We actually went for the ice cream, but were so stuffed from the burgers had to be wheeled out....

Yes, the burgers are grilled, and yes, they are made to order... but so are the burgers from BBQ Bob's in Creekside, and theirs are quite a bit larger and substantially tastier.

Note that pretty much all reviewers here are tourists, not locals, who get suckered in by their heavy advertising in almost every visitor publication.

Splitz Grill thrives off the plethora of "gourmet" toppings like hummus, baba ghanouj, or sprouts. Whilst extra spreads and veggies can be delicious, those seeking a good burger of substantial beef should look elsewhere. BBQ Bob's still has a fairly extensive selection of different sauces and toppings, without sacrificing the integrity of the HAMburger.
That being said, BBQ Bob's does NOT have a rockin banana split.

Juicy delicious burgers!  You go through a line and order up what you want as you move through the line. We ate outside and it was very pleasant.

Fun place to get a burger - I got the double stack regular burger and he got the double stack buffalo burger. Definitely get the splitz sauce - yummy garlicyness and very popular. Choice of whole grain bun is nice; you can also get a wrap (but why?). You can add a bunch of condiments - we did because we like our burgers fully loaded but I would have loved 10x the onion they put on (yes 10x - they put such a tiny smidge on) They missed giving us the avocado that we ordered and went back to get it.

We ordered the sweet potato / yam fries - they were very good and great alternative to regular fries.

He got a Greek salad - it was a good salad.

All in all, a good place for a burger feast. Whistler is expensive and we were still getting used to that - still it seems a bit pricey. We would have liked iced tea (unsweetened) but they didn't have that - only water. It was confusing to substitute the yam fries and salad and understand the pricing. But oh well.

For a great burger fix, we'd go back again. But definitely want to research a few other options and see what those reviews said.

Get an amazing burger exactly how you want it. I am a big burger guy, and this is one of the best that I've ever had!!! Worth a short walk from the heart of the Whistler Village.

Pick from a number of great sauces, great made to order add-ons, and a fresh toppings for you to build your PERFECT BURGER!!!

I had a Splitz Burger (1/3 patty) and made sure to include some grilled onions, the Splitz sauce (amazing!) and lots of fresh veggies. The fries and soda are worth making a combo, about $13 with tax. I definitely would not recommend up sizing the combo, I was super stuffed after finishing off my delicious burger and small fries.

Full review and photos on blog.

If you're a burger lover, then Splitz Grill is suppose to be the place to go in Whistler. I was super excited since they have alternative meats to choose from like buffalo, lamb, or salmon (B.C. raised too). Also, vegetarian options like a spicy lentil burger (which I later regret not getting).

After I placed my order I realized I forgot to tell them I wanted my burger medium rare. Doh! Being a gourmet burger joint, you would figure they would ask, no? Especially since their concept seems to be "have it your way." Later I found out, they prefer to cook it well-done unless you really insist to "have it your way." I found that kind of interesting.

Sadly, I thought the burger was meh because it was overcooked with not much flavor. If I knew that was the case, then I wouldn't have bothered ordering a free range buffalo burger. Splitz Grill is really just banking (or focusing) on their condiments which to me is secondary, not primary. Next time I go, I will get their spicy lentil burger with tons of alfalfa sprouts :P

We wanted to eat at Splitz based upon other great yelpers when we visited Whistler a few months ago. Frankly, we were impressed, satiated and well received. This is a 'younger' peoples place so our sons really enjoyed it. As did I.

You have a choice to 'customize' your burger - fantastic. Great fries, ample beverage selections. If the weather is good, they have a nice back side deck with tables and chairs.

I would say - Splitz is the best in the Whistler area!

It's great to have a no frill burger joint in the Whistler village. When everything else are totally overpriced, you can count on Splitz.

They got the ordering process down on a busy day. The cashier wasn't the friendliest but all the linecooks were on the ball. While there was a bit wait on a busy day, they moved us right along with buns, patty and toppings.

The burger was solid and very generously portioned, but not amazing. After a day on the hills tho, this would just be the perfect meal! They had some good toppings too! (Baba ganoush, anyone?) The fries weren't the best but I didn't focus on them either.

Definitely my top pick for Whistler!

This restaurant was recommended to me and my husband by and employee at the Burton store in the village. He said, "I'm a teen, I know where to get the best cheap burger here!" We believed him, and he was right! Definitely a great burger!

You can customize your burgers here and I got a buffalo burger with provolone cheese, mushrooms, and sauteed onions. After a long day at the slopes it was perfect! All the add-ons were extra money, but worth it. We also got alcohol and a banana split, so it wasn't as cheap as we thought it was going to be but the food was delicious! The burgers are about $10 without the add-ons.

The employees were all very friendly here. We ordered our banana split when we ordered our burgers, but we didn't want it to melt while we were eating so she just said come back up when you are ready and she'd make it for us then. We were so stuffed with our burgers that we were only able to eat a couple bites of the split, but then she gladly packed up the rest of it so we could take it back to our hotel room.

Splitz has a burger for everyone.  And if you don't want a burger, they'll make it in wrap form.  They even have yam fries, yum!!  Oh, and also lots of ice cream and milk shakes.. although that wasn't exactly what I craved in 10-degree weather.  I opted for the spicy lentil burger, which was like a falafel burger.. mmm delicious AND healthy!!  They have countless options for add-ons and sauces.  The Splitz sauce (a type of garlic aioli) is most popular, and they even have some Greek options like hummus and tzatziki.  Some weren't even listed, like guacamole.  So you really can get your burger however you want it.

One of their upsides, which is that everything is made to order, lead to a huge downside- it took FOREVER to get our food, about 30-40 min. in our case.  So if it looks crowded inside, be prepared for a long wait and go somewhere else if you're already starving.  Otherwise, Splitz seems like a great gourmet burger place to re-energize after a long day at the slopes.

Years of visiting Whistler has taught me two things --One: even if you don't plan on going out on a Saturday night, expect to be woken up in the middle of the night by girls screaming and crying and guys acting like d-bags. And two: Splitz is the Sunday fix I can't help but crave!

Since the last time I gorged on a Splitz, their menu has grown in size: Salt Spring Island lamb burgers, Organic Turkey, double stacks of all natural beef, spicy lentil, just to name a few. My usual toppings: Splitz Sauce, honey mustard, ketchup, sprouts, tomato, pickles, and cucumbers on a multigrain bun. Although, I am sure I'll never be able to eat as much as the people on their bulletin board. One guy ate $80+ worth of stuff, in a single sitting!

The service is still incredible! The guys are funny, silly and always good spirited, joking around with each other and everyone in line. This weekend, they brought our fries to our table and asked if we'd ever tried Splitz sauce on our fries. When I said no, they brought us a free dip! I'm hooked - can I get a tub of that stuff to go?

Best burger I had in the Vancouver/Whistler area.  Splitz was small, crowded, somewhat disorganized -- but I'd still recommend a stop if you're in Whistler.  Our party all had the Splitz burger, but they offer many customization options, so everybody had something at least a little different.  Fries (both regular and sweet potato) are good, as are the onion rings.  Nice little back patio for outdoor dining when the weather permits.  If you're hungry after a long day (as we were), this is a good stop.

Splitz Grill. I remember this place opening when I lived in Whistler back in the late 90s. Maybe 97? Don't remember now, it's all a blur. Do they still have the banana split?

Last time I ate here was about 7 years ago. I was craving a decent burger so I decided to get one while up in Whistler. Got a cheeseburger with my regular choice of toppings. It was good but nothing that would make me return again on this visit to Canada. Sometimes a ton of toppings isn't all they are cracked up to be...I like to keep things simple.

First, I need to make it known that I waited in line for 30 mins to get food, but I heard it was worth it, so I decided to wait.
It's about the same as most good burger joints, but since this one is in Whistler, I'll overlook the long wait. We went for turkey vs beef, which was fine, but the extras really made it! We also had a large choc shake, which was really just choc ice cream in a cup with a straw, but still good!

One of the better burgers I've had and I'm a burger person.

Its awesome that you can pretty much have whatever kind of burger you want with whatever you want.

The only con is that it could take a little bit of time to get if the line is long.  I think there were 5 people ahead of us and it still took about 10 minutes.  Well worth the wait tho!

I'd return if I didn't live in So Cal.

This hidden gem offers great hefty made-to-order flame-broiled burgers.  In addition to traditional burgers, they have vegetarian options as well.  When your burger is ready, your name is called and you choose your sauces and fixins at the counter with choices right in front of you.  For people like me who don't like conventional topping combinations, this is perfect.  I had mine ordered with a fried egg and topped with a thick layer of their house Splitz sauce (honey garlic mayonnaise), honey mustard and alfafa sprouts.  Yum.  Of course, there are also the ever-popular banana peppers, pickles, tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, etc

I had my hot and juicy burger loaded with good old carb and cholesterol with a cup of thick and sweet strawberry milkshake ...  a perfect apres-ski meal.  Who needs a pint of beer :)

My husband and I went to Whistler for our honeymoon in December and you would think that we would spend our evenings out at fancy restaurants and blowing our money.  Well, we did that twice in the week we were there, but where were we the rest of the time? Splitz!

Splitz was recommended to us by someone we met at our hotel and we were damn glad to have gone.  Our first time there (and almost every time thereafter) I got the grilled chicken burger and told the cook to add what he thought was good to it.  Peppers, salsa, lettuce, to-die-for Splitz dressing....I was a changed girl.

We came from southern California, the land of burgers.  To this day we still believe that Splitz is better than In-N-Out, Ruby's, Brea's Best, The Hat...anywhere you get a burger here, they do not compare.

If you love burgers and know what is good for you, take a trip to Whistler and go to Splitz.  You will be saying "In-N-Out what?" just like us.

A fantastic burger joint, if I do say so myself.

The lamb burger (just a note- there's a strong element of gaminess to it since it IS lamb) is delicious with cheese, Splitz sauce (sort of a creamy yogurt tasting sauce), sprouts, pickles, tomatoes, and a side of banana peppers and sauerkraut. The fries are thick and crunchy and they have a little shaker of cajun seasoning on the counter next to the soda fountain if you want to kick things up a notch. Their Splitz Burger is also very good- super juicy and flavorful. It's good with hummus if you're having trouble deciding which condiments to add.

They also serve a mean Banana Split here. The bananas are roasted so they're hot and caramelized underneath the 3 scoops of ice cream you get topped with chocolate and strawberry syrup. I believe they drizzle a sugar syrup onto the bananas because there was a crunchy, sticky part to the dessert that I figured must have been the syrup crystallized once it hit the cold ice cream. It was great way to top off a very satisfying lunch so if you're looking for something sweet, I'd say the banana split is a good choice.

After a long day burning up thousands of calories on the slopes, who wouldn't want a nice juicy burger? I guess owners Trevor and Miriam Jackson figured this out in 1997 when they first opened Splitz Grill. Their build-your-own-burger joint is jam-packed during the lunch and dinner rush.

You first order at the counter specifying your protein of choice (beef, chicken, free-range bison, Salt Spring Island lamb, wild sockeye salmon, Italian sausage) and if you want cheese, bacon, sauteed mushrooms, or sauteed onions. After placing your order, scoot down the line and pick out your toppings, which includes some interesting Mediterranean inspired items like hummus, baba ganoush, and tzatziki sauce. This aint no Mickey D's assembly line, so be prepared to wait, but boy is it worth it.

I sampled the beef and the locally-raised lamb, both of which were absolutely drip-down-the-arm juicy and delicious. I wouldn't necessarily call the lamb gamy, but there's no mistaking what kind of meat this is; lamb lovers would approve. The thick-cut fries were nice and crisp, no complaints here.

And if you weren't already full by now, there's always the banana split.  Gooey, fruity, cold, and hot mess, and yes, whipped cream too.

It's a good burger. But I think Vera's is much better.

I got the classic 1/3 lbs burger - and while Splitz offers more in terms of patty choices, I am a pure beef guy. And my burger (patty) was salty, really salty. It was weird. Everything else that others mention is there including they build the burger in front of you (who really cares? You can go to Fuddruckers in the States and make your OWN, but as long as it's freshly made, big deal), variety of toppings (like this is really that special anyway), etc.

If you are an alternative patty person (bison, lamb, etc.) I could see this as a good alternative, but when it comes to beef and just pure burger goodness, nothing beats Vera's.

Plus the fries here were horrible. I got lots of nubs, and lukewarm nubs at that. I could've complained, but I just wanted to eat.

How many places lets you put these things on your burger without extra charge:
    - Tzatiki
    - homous
    - salsa
    - splitz sauce
    - ketchup, mustard, relish
    - lettuce, tomatoes
    - cucumbers, pickles
    - banana peppers
    - onion
    - alfalfa sprouts

Answer - SPLITZ DOES!.. and for a small charge, you can add on cheese, mushrooms and more!

Everything is made to order, and there are some awesome choices, including bison, lamb, turkey, and chicken. The prices are decent and the people are friendly......... and make sure you get extra napkins, because if you like sauce - it's going to get your hands super dirty. This is really how a burger should taste like. Honestly - it is like eating a burger and a salad in one but it is soooo tasty. You do not want to put it down because you're afraid the whole thing will fall apart as soon as you let go of it, but you are getting full slowly but don't want to waste as well.

Inside their store, there are records of what people ate... something like two giant burgers, fries, chicken fingers, milkshakes and banana splits - in less than an HOUR..... something awesome like that. If I could stomach more food, I would definitely get the banana split because I just love ice cream and it looks good... but get the burger..........any kind will not disappoint.

Make sure you also read their story on the chalk board. Good for them and all their success!

After all the hype I read here I was hoping for something a little better I guess.  The selections of toppings was vast but did not make up for the undercooked and basically underwhelming buffalo burger.  A friend ordered a regular burger and also stated that the meat was not very good on his either.  I'd try it again if up in Whistler again some day though, maybe it was just an off-night at the grill.

When people ask me where the best food is in Whistler they expect me to say some classy place like 21 Steps, Araxi, etc. But no. Those places are nice, but the best food by far is Splitz. The Spicy Lentil Burger with all the fixings, fries and a shake are like eating a bite of heaven.
Located across from the 7-11, near the Marketplace, Splitz is a hamburger lover's paradise. I have heard from many a meat eater that their meat patties are just as fantastic as their lentil patty. The best part of Splitz are the topping options. I highly recommend getting the banana peppers. Just don't get too many toppings or you may hurt yourself. Really. I opened my mouth so wide that I heard something popped. Even with the pain I finished every morsel of goodness.

Delicious turkey burgers and generous onion rings. Went there on Canada Day and it was absolute chaos inside. The cashier took our order but didn't explain how the customization worked, so I actually just assumed that the assembly line was for some other type of order. Luckily the line cooks were friendly and patient. They handled the crowds well and my burger was great!

The best (veggie) burger in town! Actually, I think the spicy lentil burger is the best burger I've had - animal or not!

Easily one of my favorite haunts in Whistler.  Considering most restaurants are overpriced and tourist oriented, it's nice to have a little place like this for something more down to earth and reasonably priced.

I am not an expert on their menu as I've cut out meat cheeseburgers from my diet but I must say their Spicy Lentil Burger is one of the best veggie patties on the planet.  It's handmade, thick and flavorful.  Best of all, there are tons of toppings to choose from so you can personalize your burger however you want.  They have a killer "Splitz Sauce" which is quite garlicky and guarantees your girlfriend will not want to kiss you after dinner.  The fries are great.

The staff is terribly amusing.  Always a hoot to go in there.

Along with Pasta Lupino across the street, you have two great places to eat with good value in close proximity

Tasty burgers and fries.  My wife had the splitz burger and I had the Italian sausage burger which is actually chorizo.  (We saw chorizo called Italian sausage in more than one place in Canada.  Hey Canadians, chorizo is Mexican!)

Both burgers were really good although they both came with barbecue sauce on them.  This was strange because before your burger is ready, you go to the counter and choose your fixin's ala Subway.  I guess if you don't want barbecue sauce, you have to know this in advance and tell them to leave it off.  Barbecue sauce would not be my first choice with chorizo, but it was still good.  The french fries and onion rings were delicious.

I would have given Splitz Grill 5 stars, but they lose a star for having barbecue sauce on all the burgers by default, and for charging $.50 for a refill.  I don't really care about $.50, but if you have a self-serve soda fountain, you should not be charging for refills.  I wanted a refill and had to go to the register, wait on line, and then break a $20 bill.

The burgers at Splitz are fantastic...  because you build it yourself.  At the register you pick a burger (beef, lamb, buffalo, chicken,  veggie, etc) and decide on the extras (cheese, bacon and anything else that costs extra) and wait for your name to be called, then the fun begins.

You can load up your burger with any combination of sauces and toppings.  The sauces include the usual suspects along with the tasty Splitz sauce which is a mayo/garlic/aioli dressing, 3 types of mustard, hummus and tzatziki.  The veggie list has the normal accessories, plus unique choices like alfalfa sprouts, banana peppers, beets and cucumbers.

The fries are thick square cut which I really like.  The only complaint I have is there are a lot of really short peices that get overcooked and turn into crunchy oil sponges.  The bigger peices are soft and tasty.

I recently built a "normal" burger here to compare against my other favorite burger joints.  It was definitely good, but not great.  I think what makes Splitz special is the unique ingredients.  Load it up with all the fun stuff you won't get elsewhere to appreciate the Splitz experience.

One of the better/best burgers I've had. They have awesome fries as well which are probably double-fried.

After a long day of riding at Whistler, there was nothing I wanted more than a really delicious burger. I read all the great reviews and was soooo excited to try it all day.
You order in the front and then head on a few steps to wear the chefs are grilling up burgers and adding toppings. I got a classic beef burger with lettuce, cheddar, bacon and their special sauce (garlic mayo) and Splitz fries with cheese and gravy. They  sell beer and a can of pilsner was only $3 or something - about half the price of everywhere else.
The burgers were AWESOME. Just the right size. They have a bunch of tables in the back and we didn't have to wait at all to sit down or order at 5 pm on a Thursday night. Inexpensive and delicious - my favorite place in Whistler!!

Its been a long time since Ive had a good burger like a Splitz burger, I think the last great burger i had was at Splitz in vancouver.

I always order the classic, with fried onions, the meat is so juicy and so good. They build the burger right in front of you the way you want it..  Line ups on weekends.

This place seems like it has a lot of promise when you first walk in. It features a Chipotle-style view of the kitchen (you walk through a line with a full view of the grill and tell the cooks what to put on your burger, which is kind of cool). It is expensive, though. My 2/3 lb burger, fries and shake cost $18 CAD. The ingredients appear fresh, but I wasn't crazy about how the burger or fries ultimately tasted. The patty seemed to have some mix-in flavoring that wasn't up my alley, and the fries looked freshly cut (reminiscent of Five Guys in the US) but didn't taste up to the part. Shake was decent. I do think it comes down to taste, though - while I wasn't crazy about it, I could see this hitting the spot for the right palette. So I'd still recommend giving it a try. Plus, they have Coke/Sprite in a bottle, so I'll give them some points for that.

Of the 3 dinners that I had in Whistler, 2 were enjoyed at Splitz. Not only is it wallet-friendly, but it's also taste buds-friendly as well. First night, I had a SaltSpring Lamb burger with Splitz sauce, hummus, tzatziki, tomatoes, sprouts, red onions and a side of babba ghanoush. It was so effin good I had to go back the next night to try the Salmon burger. My taste buds were not disappointed with the BC salmon filet, Splitz sauce, tomatoes, sprouts and red onions. I asked for another side of babba ghanoush bc it was just THAT good to snack on. My friend was also very happy with his original Splitz burger.

The shop is not fancy by any means, but the burgers are damn well worth it. Service is OK. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Whistler.

Listen, I'm not one to bag on a perfectly good burger but the claims made about this being one of the best burger joints in the world are blown WAY out of proportion.  Don't get me wrong, the meat burgers are good but you can get just about the same or better at any icehouse in Texas.  Add to that the inefficient service process and you have the recipes for disaster if you walk into here starving.

Now for the good.... The veggie burger lives up to its fame (though I only had a bite).  The selection of toppings is outstanding and the Splitz sauce (a garlic mayo as far as I can tell) is a must try.   Add to these things the price and you definitely have a compelling argument for eating at Splitz.

seriously after eating at this place, all i can think about is burgers.

made to order flame grilled burgers with whatever works i want? hot damn i'd take 10 if i could. (cucumbers, pickles, salsa, SPLITZ SAUCE, ketchup, tomatoes, lettuce, pepperoccinis, and maybe some alfalfa sprouts)

good price for whistler - 11 for a combo with fries and a drink! mm.

the workers look like they're having such a good time working, and they're super chill.
