From the striking pieces on display to the friendly, knowledgeable guy running the store, this is a great little gallery for Northwest Coast art. They have prints, carvings, jewellery, and leatherwork by a variety of modern artists. Also, several cultures and styles of First Nations art are represented, including Haida, Coast Salish, Kwagiutl, and Inuit.
I liked that there was a good mix of both traditional pieces - such as masks, ceremonial paddles and bentwood boxes - and modern interpretations, such as intricate animal-inspired designs on purses. Prices seemed fairly reasonable too, with deep-carved bracelets and cuffs in silver and copper, for example, between $100-$400.
The gallery also carries books and souvenir items. Definitely a worthy stop for aficionados of Northwest Coast art looking for affordable works by up-and-coming artists.
