Spices is a bit of a hole in the wall... set in the aftermath of all that Cambie construction. Now that the dust has settled, I strongly suggest you check out their excellent curry, spring rolls and wraps. The hosts are fantastic (even feeding me their fresh blueberries, not off the menu... turned out to be part of her lunch!) and making me a hot  meal ong after they were meant to be closed.

Check out the tasteful black and white photos adorning their red walls. They are a bonus visual while you wait for your meal.

    Two thumbs up!

This place is great for a nice quick inexpensive lunch or for a well priced dinner.

It does not have the cafe/diner style of most Pho restaurants and as mentioned, it is cozy.

Great combo dinners and good beef noodle pho.

If you are in the area, check it out.

Baby it's cold outside...and my hands are just like ice! The steamy windowed Spices was the perfect way to warm up.

Like their hearty and flavourful pho broth, this is a strong and fragrant 3 stars. The salad rolls were plentiful with green leaf lettuce (not that icky iceberg stuff). The peanut sauce could have been bigger, but that's only because it was so tasty and we were double dipping :-) The large crepes were definitely enough to share, which I did, and truth be told, that could have been a full meal for me.

But I'm so happy we got the rare beef and beef balls soup, because it was really good. We had to ask for raw bean sprouts, which we were given. I found out the reasoning behind Vietnamese restaurants serving cooked sprouts is because of an article in a newspaper, health and cleanliness reasons I assume.

I hummed and hawed quite a bit about 3/4 stars, but the prices were high, even though they definitely win a thumbs up on having a nice decor!

There aren't many places you can get a bowl of Pho and enjoy the atmosphere. This place is very welcoming and my current favourite place to eat Pho. The broth is really flavourful and when I order the Hot and Sour Seafood Pho, it is actually fairly spicy. I still add more spice, but I love that here they have a jar of chilli in addition to the usual ketchup-looking hot sauce. It's a huge portion (I often take 1/3 to-go for later) and the prices are very reasonable.

In addition to the great food, this is a nice enough place to take a date. It is a small shop with bright red walls with tasteful black-and-white framed photos on the walls. There are cool lighting fixtures too. Even the bathroom is clean and well-maintained.

The lady who works there is so friendly and will warn you if she thinks you might have ordered the wrong thing. (People often think I won't be able to eat spicy food...) It is a great experience and a perfect place to warm up on a rainy day.

Once the Canada Line is running, I hope there's a skytrain stop close to this shop on Cambie to make it easy to access for the downtown crowd! It is worth the trip.

Deciding not to wait 30 min for a table at Stella's, we picked Spices.

We started with sharing their spring rolls, which were above average. Not oily, nice and crispy, filled with pork and other good stuff. I had their special beef Pho. Definitely one of the better Pho's I've had with plenty of meat and noodles.

As previous reviewers have said, this place as a cozy, comfy atmosphere with chill music. I didn't really feel like I was in a typical Vietnamese restaurant when Bob Marley was playing!

I've been going here for a while, we actually stopped going for a bit when they changed their menu, since the new menu barely had any veggie options on it, but they have since changed it back. I am a carnivore, surrounded by herbivores so a lot of times when I go out, I like to eat meat, because when I cook for everyone at home, it's usually veggie stuff.

I would not recommend eating the meat skewers here, all of them have that same grissley processed taste so you can't really tell the difference between beef, chicken and pork. Which kind of frightens me. I do like their salad rolls with peanut sauce, deep fried spring rolls, and also the vermicelli. And if you haven't filled up on dinner, you should try the deep fried banana with vanilla ice cream! They used to put nuts and caramel on this as well, but that was long ago, and even without it, it is still one of my favourite guilty pleasures.

The service is always good, the ladies that run this place are always very sweet to us. The decor is simple and the music is weird. It will randomly change from Aaron Neville to some crazy power ballad and then back to something like Celion Dion. This place has grown in popularity since it opened, so if you are going for dinner get there early!

Yes, it's pricier - but it's cleaner, more comfortable, and nicer service than hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese places.  Also the menu has a few more interesting options than the standard pho places.

I'd give 4 stars to the chicken rice hotpot - comes baked in a clay pot, juicy strips of chicken, mushrooms, onions and ginger root.  It tastes very Chinese bo jai fan-like complete with crispy rice bits at the bottom, but when you add the fish sauce - it takes it to a whole other level.  YUM.  I wolfed it down and am craving another one.  For $12.95, it isn't the cheapest meal you can have but it is satisfying.

A good local place to get a quick meal. Dinner portions are big and plentiful. Meat satays were a little under seasoned and atmosphere is getting a little crowded with to many knick knacks! I've enjoyed this restaurant better for lunch.

Aside from a more varied menu, I really don't see what this place has going for it. Very Pricey for Pho, and individual dishes are no better than other Pho places. The decor and everything is nice, but the illusion is destroyed by the terrible tea served in plastic tumblers.
