Review from Mary D.
On Sunday of the Thanksgiving weekend, we closed our family cottage up north for the winter. After a long day of hard work, we were hungry and in search of a warm, comfort meal. It was late (approaching 9:00 pm), and since it was Thanksgiving, we were finding may restaurants closed for the evening. We searched online and phoned many restaurants near Hwy 400, but Spice in Barrie was one of the few that was open. They asked us how far we were, and offered to stay open for us! We were appreciative, but also a little dubious.
Immediately upon arriving, we were impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant. It was welcoming enough, and so were the staff. There was one other couple eating, and already midway through their meal. So we were indeed there for quite a bit longer than they would have otherwise stayed open. But we never felt rushed, and the staff were friendly and accommodating.
Our group of 5 ordered quite a few dishes and all were fresh, and felt to be of quality ingredients. Our server was also very helpful, and even pointed out that we could order a Family-sized Combo, which would include everything we were already ordering plus an additional tandoori platter. We appreciated that and went with her suggestion. Among the dishes we tried were Chana Masala, Aloo Gobhi, Butter Chicken, Lamb Rogan Josh, Naan Bread basket, and several varieties of rice. We all left well fed and happy!
Our experience was so positive, that when my Mom ended up driving north again yesterday, she stopped in Barrie to pick up a huge take-out order, and brought it home to all of us. Of course, we had to reheat it by the time she got it to Toronto, but the quality and flavour were still there! We will be returning next summer for sure! -

We where in barrie for a visit and went here for their food. We found it was a buffet for lunch. We tried a bit of everything. The food was fresh and tasty. The spice was just right with the right amount of flavor to the food; as many places here in Toronto have toned down their masala's to meet the general public's handling of spice. The place was not that busy so I am unsure if its a popular destination for people in Barrie to go to. We essentially chose the place for the Nepalese experience since we are well-aware of the Indian cuisine however the buffet and food taste was nothing we had not had before. Overall good food and service. Located in downtown barrie with street parking. Its not fine dining but its not a dirty place either - its your average Indian restaurant with average pricing.
