Loved it. A nice spa with great amenities and NONE of that attitude to be found at other spas (Morgan Run, I'm talking to you)
I went with a friend and we booked facials and massages. We enjoyed their lounge; I flipped through a National Geographic (a nice change from US Weekly, wouldn't you say?) until I got my massage, which was solid. [Sometimes a masseuse will be 5'2 but have the power of a 300 pound man, despite your requests otherwise. It was delightful to leave a massage NOT battered and bruised!]
The facial was fantastic. My skin felt great and this is the FIRST time I have bought product from a service and it was as good as expected (the lip stuff. Seriously. Get it). I might have relaxed so much I fell asleep (obviously I relaxed so much that I didn't even get her name). Sorry facial lady, thanks for making me look good!
The girls at the spa were all friendly, the steam room is the best I've been to, and if I'd had more time the gym facilities looked great too. Next time I will try to stay longer and indulge even more, make a day of it, have some drinks on the balcony over the beautiful harbor view, etc. You should too!Comment from Jennifer L. of Spa Aquazul 12/27/2011

Stayed at the Hilton Bayfront for a staycation w/ my girl cousin. We decided to spoil ourselves and go all out! Both of us got the spa package that included a hot stone massage, custom facial, manicure, and pedicure.
Hot stone massage: TO DIE FOR! The best 80 minutes in my life, not even an exaggeration!
Facial: The massage on my face/shoulders were relaxing, but the extractions were painful.. My esthetician was set on getting a stubborn white head i have on the side of my nose. She spent a minimum of 5 minutes trying to extract it and that was a painful 5 minutes..
Mani/Pedi: If I could go back.. I would have opted out of this. I'm sorry, but there was nothing relaxing about it. The two ladies that were working in the nail area were nice as people, but they were very chatty with each other. Some of the conversation was uncomfortable. I also think that the price is way too much for a simple mani/pedi, which is what I got. Massage to my hands or feet were lacking. The end result wasn't even anything great.. The polish was applied looking like my nails have already grown showing a bit of the "moon" part of my nail showing. I'm sorry, but I will leave my nail care needs to the my usual Asian salons in National City and Chula Vista. They're quiet, effective, and if they do say something, it's in a language I do not understand and don't need to know the content of their brisk conversation.
All negative parts aside, I would still come back. The spa itself was that good. Steam room, cucumber water/teas/coffee/champagne/amenities offered. Overall staff was friendly. Relaxation room was tranquil. It is very expensive, but I can see why. I just wish I could afford to come here more often. -

If you are looking for amazing service and exceptional therapists this is the place!
From the time you walk into the spa, you are treated to A+ service. As an avid spa goer, Spa Aquazul has quickly become my favorite. They also have an amazing selection of creative services. The steam grotto is my favorite part of the facility, you will want to be sure to save time for this experience. You are also welcome to use the pool and jacuzzi which are situated right on San Diego Bay with incredible views.Comment from Jennifer L. of Spa Aquazul 5/22/2012

What could have been a total disaster turned out to be one of the best spa experiences I have ever had all due to the wonderful staff at Spa Aquazul! There was a mix-up with my original reservations for my mom and I and our massages were booked at Spa Brezza at the other Hilton - at Mission Bay. The staff at Aquazul not only were able to accommodate me with one hours' notice (on Mother's Day weekend, no less) but they called the other spa to cancel my reservation and to let them know to not charge the credit card that held the reservation. Now that's service. When we arrived, the staff were so welcoming, taking the time to tour the facility and making sure we were comfortable. They also have a great selection of treats in the relaxation room. And finally, one of the biggest deals for me is the proper amenities in the locker rooms: shower caps, razors, Q-tips plus high quality hair spray and shampoo/conditioner in their very ample-sized showers. No other local spa even comes close to the class of this place and the service. Did I mention the rates for services are very reasonable too? And if you are a local, they give you 20% off! I will definitely be back!

San Diego locals be advised there is the best staycation spa deal waiting to be discovered. You are pampered and treated like a VIP the moment you enter the parking garage. The staff is cordial, friendly, accomodating and hospitable.
You have full access to the all the facilities with any spa appointment. The relaxation room, steam room, pool are extra bonus for Sunday - big screen TV to watch football under the blue sky and palm trees. You feel like a high roller celebrity for pennies. Danielle our server was super sweet and made sure we had the best service possible. The turkey wrap sandwich and bloody mary's were delicious.
Marcia was my esthetician and Stephan my masseuse. Each service was ultra pampering, relaxing and enjoyable. You have no choice but to unwind, relax, and melt away your worries.
A tip that October 10th-14th is spa week in which amazing deals!!!!!! We are making girls spa day a mandatory routine.Comment from Jennifer L. of Spa Aquazul 11/8/2011

The Mr. and I decided to take advantage of Spa Week and try out Spa Aquazul. It was the right choice! Thanks to all the Yelp tips, we decided to self-park and get the 3 hours for free with validation (thanks fellow Yelpers!). Upon arrival, we got a brief tour of the spa, how to get to the gym and the pool and were shown our lockers. The men and women's areas are separate, including steam rooms and lockers (obviously). We ended up texting each other to meet after our massages and it worked out fine.
Now for the meat and potatoes of the review (yummmm, meat and potatoes....): the Traveler's Tonic massage was fantasmic. I had an Asian masseuse named Eileen (Ellen?) and she did a wonderful job. The heated table was the perfect temperature, she continued to ask how the pressure was throughout the massage and asked about my focus areas (neck, shoulders, lower back), which she spent plenty of time working on. She didn't talk me up, just questioned me when necessary and it was a nice and relaxing experience.
I also took advantage of the steam room, which was great. There was a minty smell (Eucalyptus?) and even quiet music. I wonder how they keep their speakers waterproof....? The pool outside is nice - although I thought it was heated, but when we dipped out feet in, it was pretty cold.
Overall, a very good experience and I would highly recommend it. Check them out - especially if you can take advantage of Spa week, it's a steal!!Comment from Jennifer L. of Spa Aquazul 11/8/2011

My husband surprised me with a 50 minute massage, a facial, and a mani pedi. The service was incredible! All of the ladies are professional yet easy-going. I had 4 hours of much needed relaxation, and I never felt rushed or pressured to purchase product. I will definitely go back in the future.

Today I gave Spa Aquazul another chance and I'm really glad I did!! After my original post, I was immediately contacted by the spa manager- she was apologetic and very concerned about my experience. I was impressed that the spa reads their Yelp! reviews and reaches out to customers who haven't had a good experiences. As a result, I decided to try the spa again (other people seem to have had 4-5 star experiences there so why not, right?)
My friend and I booked appointments (a facial and massage) and from start to finish it was a fantastic! I'll admit, in spite of the kind email I received from the manager, I was somewhat apprehensive about returning to the spa but I quickly saw that my experience was most likely a VERY isolated incident and not a reflection of what people typically experience at Spa Aquazul. We left with glowing skin and feeling completely relaxed. The entire staff was friendly and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcome.
I'll definitely be going back!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

For our anniversary, my boyfriend and I stayed at the Hilton Bayfront and decided to treat ourselves to some spa treatments at Aquazul.
We booked our appointments in advance, and the receptionist who helped me was friendly and even recommended some treatments specifically for my problem areas (lower back sensitivity) and also for my boyfriend.
First off, the ambience of the spa is so relaxing, the music and design go along with the ocean theme that the entire hotel embodies. It set the perfect mood for our tranquil evening. The waiting room was clean with nice low lighting. They offered refreshing cucumber infused water and also some light snacks.
We got a couples massages and then I indulged in an additional facial. I was really charmed that they brought champaigne and chocolate strawberries for us :) The massage itself was phenomenal! The massage therapist was extremely professional and the entire massage was bliss. I also got the radiant glow facial which was so gentle and soothing, I almost fell asleep!
Aquazul was the perfect escape that my boyfriend and I have been dying to get for the longest time! I would definitely recommend this spa for anyone who desires a little pampering.Comment from Jennifer L. of Spa Aquazul 6/9/2011

Before moving to San Diego I stayed at this hotel which was great in every way.
One notable part of the hotel was my visit to this spa. It was the most relaxed I had been in weeks. I fell asleep during both my facial and massage.
I even got a happy ending.Haha no not a real one... but my massage therapist was very hot, and I actually got her number after chatting her up a bit after the service while waiting for the facial. Scoresies!
I can't wait till I have the time and the extra funds to go back.
Only reason it does not get a 5th star is because the receptionist was kind of a ditz and screwed up my appointment. -

I went in for a 50 min. massage and manicure and had a great experience. The massage in particular was fantastic - the best one I've had in a long while. I'm sorry to say that I don't recall the therapist's name, so apologies. It was a woman, and I will just refer to her as "miracle worker". Nail service was fine, nothing unexpected.
I fell in love with the Zents products they carry and actually tracked down a store in Old Town that sells them (Summers Past Farms & Ye Olde Soap Shoppe). The shop in Old Town was more expensive though, so if they have something you like at Aquazul, get it there. -

Phenomenal staff, awesome ambiance and great overall experience!
First off a huge kudos to the staff of this spa. Whoever trained this team or runs this spa did a superb job. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate his 25th birthday a few days ago. I called a few days ahead to inquire about availability and packages and got so much help I was sold on the place before I even hung up. When she said they took Spa Finder AND that they had a gift card promo going (by $50 it's worth $85) I was stoked. I let her know that I was prepared to spend up to $300 (out of pocket) on the day. She helped me maximize the locals (20%!!!!) and gift card discounts and booked our appointments so that we be done by 4 PM - FRIGGIN AWESOME!
When we arrived we were greeted immediately by the Spa's Manager. She explained how everything was going to work to us and the personally escorted me to the locker room - giving us time to talk payment away from the birthday boy. She came back with an itemized list showing me two different options for payment. When all was said and done she got me out the door at $239 out of pocket and $275 in Spa Finder. For those without calculators that's $257 per person (total - including tip) for 3 hours worth of services - FLIPPIN' SWEET!
All the services we received were excellent (massage, facial, pedicure and couple's soak). The BF says the facial was his favorite part of the day and he wants to go back
The facility day use fee is $10 and that gets you into the hotels heated swimming pool (that plays underwater music AND has a huge jumbotron), gym (with exercise classes) and use of the locker room and spa lounge (that has nuts and dried fruits as well as teas and cucumber water). BONUS - fluffy towels galore AND eucalyptus steam grotto that has cucumber infused frozen wash cloths at the door. Disneyland is no longer my happiest place on Earth!Comment from Jennifer L. of Spa Aquazul 6/9/2011

Rip off artists. Prepaid for service for my wife and I but was required to provide credit card info "in case I no-showed". did not make sense since I would simply lose what I had already paid for. Now it does make sense. they needed my card info for another reason. When I left the scheduled appointment I stopped at the front desk to ask how to distribute the tips to the various people. they explained how and then mentioned that they already charged the card for 20% tip. This is not written anywhere, nor was it mentioned or explained to me. I was really not amused by this. Apparently the only reason to lay hold of my credit card info was to try to pull a fast one on me. I was going to tip in the services room which would mean I would have done so twice. How good was the service? who cares!

The amenities and overall look and feel were great. My masseuse was good, I've had better but it might have just been the style of the massage (I got the Island/Bali-style massage). The relaxation room was really quiet, and had super comfy chairs. I wish they had more magazines or something casual to flip through. The sauna was great and access to the pool and gym make this place a keeper. Note: we got $50 massages through wellness week, I'm not sure I would have been as satisfied if I paid much more than about $75. (3 hours parking free)

Came here during Spa Week and got a 50 minute massage for $50. The customer service was excellent. I checked in and the receptionist showed me the locker room, steam room, and the relaxation room. I was assigned a locker, which had a robe, slippers, and towel ready for me. Facilities were really nice and new (pretty new hotel). They had standard amenities like shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, razor, shaving cream, hairspray, hairdryer, deodorant, body lotion, mouthwash, and lots and lots and lots of towels. The slippers weren't the standard throwaway flip flops, it was hard gel-like slippers that you can wear around the pool, i was impressed.
After I changed, I went into the steam room for a few minutes but it was too overwhelming so I relaxed for about 15 minutes in the relaxation room to wait for the massage therapist. For some reason they were showing "Rush Hour 3" on the TV in the relaxation room, which wasn't very relaxing... they had fruit, cucumber water, assortment of tea, and some snacks in there as well.
I was expecting a woman massage therapist since I had specifically requested that, but then Stephan, a male massage therapist, came out to get me. there was a moment of confusion as I was expecting Jennifer and I told Stephan that. He was very accommodating and said it is up to me if I am comfortable with him or he can get me rescheduled. Since he was so nice (and had a sexy french accent) i decided to go ahead with him. The massage room was dim and played relaxing nature music. Stephan and I talked about my problem areas and he told me his plan and to speak up whenever it is too much pressure. I loved the massage, he had firm yet gentle hands. and honestly, it didn't matter whether it was a male or female. He didn't try to talk, only asked me whether the pressure was enough and letting me know he was using the hot towel (fantastic!), and when to flip over. he paid careful attention to expose only the parts of my body he was working on, otherwise I was tucked in the towels like i was in a cocoon. the massage oil he used smelled wonderful, and it's the same scent as the amenities in the spa. i feel so relaxed after it was over. I did not want it to end... After he led me out of the treatment room area, he apologized once again for the confusion earlier, but I told him he was great and we parted with a smile.
The spa lets you use the pool and jacuzzi, and workout room with any treatment. I did not take advantage of that but I will definitely do that next time. The pool is outdoors looking over the bay, and the view just so happened to be a giant Dole Banana shipping boat that day.
I did self-parking and the spa comps 3 hours of self parking with any treatment.
I will definitely be back... but the treatments are a bit pricey outside of Spa Week. But since it was Spa Week, it was really crowded, made it a bit uncomfortable... It was an overall very relaxing and pampering experience. I recommend this spa to anyone looking to get away... -

This review is strictly for the fitness center at Spa Aquazul:
Really disappointing...my main problem was that there was a charge to use the "fitness center", even for hotel guests. While I'm not opposed to being charged the fee, which many hotels do, I just feel that if you do charge a fee, it should be pretty nice facilitates and these facilitates were below average. Don't get me wrong - the room itself is fairly spacious and everything looked to be fairly new, but it was the variety of equipment that bothered me. There were about 12-15 elliptical trainers (good) and 4 small exercise machines and one small and light set of free weights (not good). I almost asked if there was another room were the rest of the equipment was stored - that really isn't enough. While I liked all the elliptical/cardio machines, a fitness center (if that's what you're going to call it) needs to have a decent variety of work-out equipment and this place did not have that and should not charge hotel guests for limited equipment.
It's a nice 4-star hotel with a two-star hotel facility and that's disappointing.Comment from Jennifer L. of Spa Aquazul 6/9/2011

I would not go back here again. The lady who did my pedicure was nice. But overall the price and what you get is not worth it. It's way overpriced and you don't get half the experience or service that a local spa pedicure would give you. I can't believe how I got ripped off for a pedicure! It was the express one but it was so expensive and again didn't get the full treatment..not bc the lady was bad it was the policy. If you're a local I would recommend going to a local spa to get this done not a hotel where they rip the guests off. Also they automatically add on a 20% tip regardless of if you approve or not.

I took my now fiancée to Spa Aquazul for a couple's message to celebrate our engagement. Everyone from the front desk staff to the attendants to the massage therapists were excellent and all went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. The spa itself is wonderfully kept, clean and calming. The staff brought us champagne and chocolate strawberries prior to our service. My fiancée has had spa treatments at many spas and was very impressed with her massage. I found mine to be perfectly tailored to my needs as well. I would highly recommend Spa Aquazul for both locals and hotel guests seeking a first rate spa day with exceptional service.
