Dark and unassuming, I sometimes forget about Souz Dal until I catch sight of the great hanging globe sign outside, or the board advertising their awesome drink specials.
I love this place, it's perfectly dark and cozy, with a decent sized patio out back. It's perfect for a date or catching up with a few friends. Drinks are fantastic, service is decent, atmosphere is dim and intimate.
Not much more to say, definitely worth a visit if you're nearby and thirsty.... -
Review from Rafi N.
Toronto, ON
Souz Dal is a cozy and dark bar. The service is okay but nothing out of the ordinary. The pricing is good.
*** DRINKS ***
I had a bottle of Paulaner Hefe-Weizen.
*** SERVICE ***
Service is okay. There was only one person running the bar - the bartender. He didn't seem very friendly or particularly happy. However, he did do his job as far as getting us drinks in a timely manner.
*** ATMOSPHERE ***
The bar is very dark. I sat on the patio at the back of the bar. There is candle light on the table, but watch your step. The patio is almost unnoticeable and really small. As I walked out to the patio, I thought I was still inside.
*** PRICE ***
The pricing is good. There is almost always a special.
*** EXPERIENCE ***
Regardless of the lack of light, there was no lack of drinks. The service didn't blow me away, but the pricing was good. The atmosphere is a little too dark to be intimate, but that's its style and it seems to work. I would recommend anyone who hasn't been here to pay a visit.Listed in: Noise 'n Poison

I never got brave enough to walk into Souz Dal and have a drink alone....... It just looks so dim, so dark...
After my pre dinner drink, and my dinner drink and a full stomach, I finally got to go in Souz Dal with 3 other yelpers...
Dark Dark Back Patio! I was expecting ghouls and ghosts going to jump out and attack me like Halloween event at Wonderland...
Me Screaming! Oh it was just the lone bartender... looked pale and half alive, kept asking us with half opened eyes with no smile......
'Do you want something to drink/"
"What do you want to drink?"
"Have you decide on what to drink?"
Margarita Specials for Tue $5 which was not bad.... I just could not pass on a special...........
Darkness.............Everywhere................... .

What a gem!
It's a cute and little place where the lights are low and the drinks flow. No seriously, five dollar drinks and other deals for every day of the week. Admitting to a wild Monday night, I indulged in the Mojito deal.
The service was really nice and adapted to our needs. If she saw that straws weren't being used, she stopped bringing straws. The mojitos themselves were quite yummy, a bit on the icy side but still did the trick. Don't take too much advantage of the deals though, bathrooms are downstairs! Aka you'll be walking up and down stairs and narrow hallways, just be careful.
I'll be back for the deals as well as all those other delicious-sounding, dessert-y, yet alcoholic beverages. -

I adore this little known gem, all because of the hidden intimate patio at the back... bliss in middle of Little Italy. For the most part this place feels undiscovered, possibly because of it's unassuming rustic interior decor? If only people ventured just a little further in...
But hey I'm fine keeping it discreet, I even call it "mine" sometimes ;p
Great drinks selection, awesome non-douchey patrons, great service, I have nothing to complain about.
I haven't tried the food as yet but if I do I will update this review.Listed in: Watering Holes

Out for a nice night in Toronto and stumbled upon Souz Dal. The sign out front listing absinth drew my girlfriend and I in for a drink. Sat down in the what seemed to be nice atmosphere and ordered 2 drinks. Had what seemed to be a very nice conversation with the bartender, older gentleman mid 40's ish and slightly balding, that is until we cashed out our tab and he ripped us off. I am certain I gave the man 2 $20's and he gave me $3 change. I asked and he said I gave him $25. We walked out a bit puzzled so we went through the night and are 100% sure we gave him $40 so we went back in and he continued to hold on the fact that I gave him $25. What I realized is that this man clearly needed the $20 more than I did if he was willing to steal it from a customer. I had mentioned I was visiting which apparently made us an easy target. Beware and clearly we will not be returning to Soul Daz ever.

Small, dimly-lit bar in Little Italy with a low douche factor and lots of North-African-inspired art. They have an extensive funky martini and cocktail menu as well as drink specials du jour:
Mondays - $5 mojitos
Tuesdays - $5 margaritas
Wednesdays - $3 rail drinks
Thursdays - $5 caipirinhas
Fridays - $3 house shooters
Saturdays - $3 house shooters
Sundays - $5 martinis and $20 pitchers of sangria
Portions tend to be small. There's a patio but it's covered. Don't you dare smoke on it!Listed in: Places in Toronto My Friend…, Liquor Up for Less

Dark, unassuming and full of booze - the bar, not me.
Please don't visit this place. It's nice, and unspoiled by a-holes and what would you want with a dimly-lit, well-stocked bar a few blocks from The Mod Club anyway?
Surely, you hate a year-round patio, great service and daily drink specials.
Yeah, move on. I'll hold down the fort. -

Oh Souz, what you do to me...
If you arrive early or get lucky, you can snag this perfect little "booth" by the front window, which just feels like something out of a movie scene. Warm, cozy, with a good view of the people walking by on College st.
I wish there were more places like this. Affordable booze! Even if you don't hit up one of the drink specials, a glass of house wine only cost me $5.
The cocktail list sounds like they stole the names from a Cheesecake factory menu, if I wasn't so against sugar-laden bevvies I would be all over that.

Alright, alright, so as it turns out I sometimes judge a book by its cover. Or, in this case, a bar by its' signage. Let's face it, I'm a sucker for good signage. And Souz Dal has it. The rusty globe hangs outside like a relic, the name of the bar cut into the side. Lit, and glowingfrom within, it reminds me of one of those tin punch-out crafts made from a (insert random legume) canat summer camp. But much cooler of course. It was this sign that caught my attention on more than one occasion, beckoning me in when I had somewhere else to be. Finally, one night a couple of weeks ago, I gave in to its sirens call. I was a little bit disappointed.
It was devoid of people save for us and the lonely bartender. I say lonely, butjudging by his charm (see: none) he probably liked it better thatway. Granted though, it was early - Souz Dal only has a drink menu - and a few more folk trickled in as the night wore on.
The stars I gave are attributed solelyto the bar's ambience. Dimly lit, and painted in muted reds and oranges it has an earthy orMoorish feel to it. Worn textiles and cathedral mirrors adorn the walls, while candles flicker on every table, casting shadows. The back patio has a similar vibe happening, cloistered in by high walls, andlit by candles wedged in the mouths of old wine bottles.
Now I rarely turn down a good patio, but in this case I chose aseat inside, which says a lot.Reclined on velvet benches at our table by the open front window, we watched College Street come alive as we perused the drink menu. I was in a cocktail mood, and my friend had read somewhere that Souz Dal claimed to have the "best" mojitos in the city, so that was the first order I placed.
Now I've been to Cuba. I did a little backpacking, starting in Havanaand makingmy way to the South coast. I wouldn't say I'm a connoiseur of the mojito because of this, but I diddrink my fair share, and like to think I know a thing or two about a good one. And this wasn't one of them. There wasn't nearly enough mint or sugar, so it was overwhelmingly bitter. I don't like my mojitos to taste like Kool-Aid, but I do like a little sweetness to curb the edge.
Unlikely to order another of the same, but unwilling to give up on the bar, we tried a few other beverages. Nothing wowed us. The Moscow Mule with its ginger beer offered a nice slow burn, but it also wasn't a repeat offender. The fortune cookie garnish on the lychee-infused Soho martini was fun, but not nearly as tasty as a lychee would have been.
Although funky signage and ambience mean a lot to me, a good drink means even more, so chancesare Iwon't be returning to Souz Dal. If however, you are in the market for an intimate date setting (see: empty bar) then head on over. And if a mediocre mojito is your thing, then you can get them herefor $5.75 on Mondays. -

I like my bars like I like my women.
Dark, Hispanic-ish, Small, and less than $40 a night.
It's cozy- but doesn't seem to have AC, got a little covered patio thing in the back. The tables out front look out on to College and like @Kat F. says, there are some pretty good specials.
Miked drinks are $3.50 on Weds and for $5 on a Thursday you can get a Caipirinha (awesomest drink I had there- it's got some sort of tequila flavored booze from Brazil called Cachaca mixed with a bunch of limes and sugar)
Get one of those.Listed in: DRINKNG IS FUN

the Toronto Lover system:
5 stars = Must visit!
4 stars = Really good. I take my friends here.
3 stars = Somewhat worth it... if you have nowhere better to go.
2 stars = Below average. Attend only when necessary.
1 star = Do not visit!
If you can read the sign to figure out it's Souz Dal, you've passed some sort of test and now you get to enter.
This is a cool and somewhat unusual bar for this part of College Street. It's not very loud, and it's not a meat market. I honestly feel like it has a bit of a goth flavour, in that it's dark with a lot of ornamentation on the inside, and people come here to talk to their friends in a corner.
The prices are absolutely reasonable for this part of town, with drink specials from $5 to $10. Don't expect great service, but your party will be looked after.
In short, Souz Dal doesn't offer what most people come to Little Italy for (noise + energy + beauty) but it's a very nice bar with an interesting decor.

Another night of sexy, sexy times at Souz Dal. The martini menu reads more like a dessert menu (what a tease) with names like creme brulée and creamsicle, and I've recently learned that they carry my new favourite drink - the Caipirinha (Brazil's national drink, apparently). Incredibly yummy and expertly prepared. Amaretto Sours (my signature drink) are smooth, not too icy and just perfectly sour.
On Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays mixed drinks are $4 instead of $8. Now that is what we call a "steal," friends.Listed in: Toronto's Most Terrifying…, The Art Of Mixology &…

Oh Souz Dal where have you been all my life? I love this little watering hole. What's not to like? It's small enough to be cozy, big enough to accommodate a group of people. It's got a small patio in back. The drinks are the cheapest yet some pretty decent quality along College Street in an area that is notoriously overpriced. The tunes are happening and there wasn't any atypical Little Italy douchery in sight! I love it. :)
The Yelp post Harbord House crew hit up Souz Dal and it was the perfect spot to wind down. I'm red penciling this little gem of a bar into my book for a great place to hook up with friends without breaking the bank. The only real draw back is that they serve no food whatsoever so there is no in house noshing to be had. You can, however, much like Magpie and the Red Lantern, bring your own goodies in the house. Duly noted for next time. When I'm boozing, I like my savouries. -

I have escorted half a dozen first dates to Souz Dal. It's all very 'Kissing Jessica Stein', I know. Maybe I'm trying to capture this bar's essence of mystery and sexiness to apply it to myself? The illusion has served me well, at least until my dates' alcohol can take effect.
The cushioned window box lounge is the most coveted table - a cozy little hideaway with a view of the action on College Street. With the moody lighting and music, I feel as though I'm in a gypsy caravan that stays still while the world passes by. There's a tiny patio hidden away, too, which feels a long way removed from Little Italy.
The cocktails are excellent: Astro Pop, Rasta, Jolly Rancher, Chocotini, Sweet Tart... and luscious whiskey sours. Rock the casbah, indeed.Listed in: Little Italy, My Neighborhood, Never Let Me Down

Great date location. Best amaretto sours I have ever touched my lips to. Although prices aren't the cheapest, their drink menu is very extensive, and I have never tasted a drink off their menu that I disliked.
It's very cozy and cute in the winter. Candles in wine bottles make for a warm effect. I have no problem venturing through the snow to get warm in this bar.
In the summer time the back patio is perfect for smoking, drinking, and conversing in a very relaxed atmosphere. I can't say anything bad about this cute little bar in the heart of little italy. It's more than perfect. If that's even possible. -

I like this bar. Great atmosphere, drinks are well made, and at a good price.
My only beef; SERVICE. No offense to him personally but the guy that works there does not give good service.
He's not mean but he has no ounce of charm or energy, and seems really gloomy all the time.
The other servers are fantastic, especially the girl with short brown hair (don't remember her name).
My advice; if you see the guy is working, don't go in. If the girl is working, go for it, it's a great place.
2 STARS if the guy is working.
4 STARS if other servers are working. -

Souz Dal was the second stop on my birthday adventure this past Saturday (the first stop being the classic fave Nirvana). I scoured Yelp for a suitable drinks destination and the almost flawless reviews for Souz Dal sucked me right in. Fortunately, the plethora of 5-star reviews were bang on. :)
At this point in the night we were a party of 8, and we nicely fit at two round tables in the middle of the restaurant. I'd definitely like to make a return visit as part of a twosome though -- it seemed like a very romantic date spot. The atmosphere was all-around perfect: cool, sexy, and relaxed, all rolled into one.
And the drinks, mmm, the drinks. I heard that Souz Dal had the best mojitos in the city and they are definitely now at the top of my list with their perfect blend of mint and lime. I'm VERY eager to return on a Monday when they're only $5! The other members in my party had various fancy cocktails and I tasted a few, all of which were delicious and generously filled with booze. -

What's with the smoking on the "patio".
It's not a fucking patio, and it's ridiculous people are smoking out there.
Since 2006, you cannot smoke in all workspaces and enclosed spaces open to the public. What, are you new or something? -

Souz Dal has to be hands down one of my favourite bars.
What I love:
- they only serve booze
- small, intimate, cozy atmosphere
- great clientele - no douches have been spotted during my drinkin' time there
- everyday has a cheap special (hello...$3 drinks in Toronto?!)Listed in: Bottom's Up!

My Souz Dal experience is one of weekend brunch. I've never really known this place to be anything other than a bar, but one Saturday morning I walked by and noticed a brunch menu taped to the window filled with reasonable prices. So I said 'what the heck,' and tried it.
The brunch here is good, but different from what I'm accustomed to. In fact, the breakfast reminded me of the kind of breakfast you'd get at a café in South America, or perhaps even parts of Europe. They don't have coffee, but they do have those thick americanos you could raise the dead with. They bring some toasted bread with a selection of butter and jam while you wait for your meal. And the meal itself is exactly what is listed on the menu. If it says eggs and pancetta with fruit, that's what you get. There's no potato side dish, there's no toast (consider saving some pieces from what you get earlier.) The food was all great, and it's definitely the kind of place to try out if you're nostalgic for that international café feeling. -
Review from Hana B.
The loungy latin music, the twinkling christmas lights at the bar, the cozy feel put me in a relaxed mood right as I walked in the door. I decided to sit outside on the back patio, pulled up some lawn chairs, while looking at an extensive menu with drinks I hadn't seen anywhere before. I got a Caprinha that was icy, just the right amount of sweet and very refreshing! and a Creamsicle martini, which tasted exactly like a creamsicle, just better.
I'm already day-dreaming of going back here again and I was just there last night!! -

This place is sexy simplicity at it's best! As Tovah F. said this is a really great date venue or intimate place to catch up with a friend as I did.
The martinis on the menu were epic and delish and a typical $7.25 for 2 1/4 oz... my personal favs were:
Coconut Creme Pie: Stoli Vanil, Malibu coconut rum and cream
Jolly Rancher: Polar Ice Vodka, Sour Puss raspberry and lemonade
Love Potion no. 9: Polar Ice Vodka, Malibu coconut rum and Lychee liqueur
Can't wait to go back and try some more! -

The first stop on my "b-day" crawl! Already such lovely memories attached to this place!
It's a tiny cozy lil place with dim lighting. Romantic oui? Si. The drinks were delish! I had a few refreshing mojitos and a chocolate cake shot!
With a cheap special for each day of the week I'll deffo be back! I can afford it! And I'm legal! Yay!
Thanks again to everyone to came out and wished me well! Also! Zack S! I would like my Yelp shot glass back please! -

I went here for a birthday gathering last year. The server was patient and accommodating to our large group gathered in the middle of the small, cozy bar. The decor is classy and the bar is dimly lit - it probably would be a good date spot... or better for a smaller crowd of people. There are really great drink specials - like 5$ margaritas which we took advantage of. The server was patient, and let me pay with debit, which is something that doesn't happen very much anymore. I would return here, but probably with a smaller crowd or on a date.

Love the Mojitos. Seriously some of the best in the city. The barman is usually surly and service can be slow, but at least he pours with a heavy hand. The seats by the windows are the best.
