Review from Emma G.
I absolutely love this place. I used to live right nearby, and it's embarrassing how often I went. This was my go-to lunch spot.
During the year or so that I frequented, I tried many of the soups that they had. I loved the salmon chowder, corn chowder, and french onion. The spicier chilis were often too spicy for me (but that's just my wimpy tastebuds for you), but I liked the milder ones. The veggie soup was pretty good - not phenomenal but how much can you expect from a plain veggie soup?
And the sandwiches? Yum! I was very, very enamoured with the tuna salad. I don't know why, probably because of the bread - very fresh and a bit dense in the best way. Apparently I wasn't the only one because they'd often be out of them by the time I got there, but the club panini was delicious too.
I always had good service here but that may have been because, for a while, I was there so often. Generally everyone greeted me with a smile, which is all I ask!
One added bonus is that they post their soups on their website every day, so before you head over you can check and see that there's something you'd like to eat. (On rare days there'd be nothing that caught my eye, but usually I'd immediately see something I wanted.)
I really, really like this shop and wish there was one near my apartment now!Listed in: Vancouver Five Stars

We were craving paninis. Soups Etc! has about 6 soups, not sure if they are changed. We ordered two vegetarian paninis and 1 cappuccino and our bill was $20! Way over prices for what you get. Pretty delicious panini though. The cappuccino was a latte with foam on top and was bitter. We ended up not having soup because the nutritional information was posted on the counter suggesting to us that they come from a can. The ambiance could use some work. Exposed pipes and ceiling vans can be nice but not when they are covered in caked on dust, announcing how often they're not cleaned. No amount of adult contemporary music could mask the blaringly loud air vents! It was like being on a plane. Posted around the restraint are "WiFi Rules!!" signs, which make the place seem really anti-laptop. The person that helped us was very surly and unfriendly. We definitely would not return to this place.

When I moved from Vancouver to Calgary I legit went through Soup ETC withdrawal!
My favourite soup was the squash soup, it was thick, hearty, spicy, and overall delicious.
The nutty chicken panini was also a favourite. The panini is a good size too! Sometimes I would eat half and save half for later.
The people working there were hit or miss. The older fella was often a little brash, never really rude but never friendly. The two young guys who I assume were his sons were always super friendly. -

Basic soup. Basic sandwich. Sometimes, that's all you need to fill the spot. I'd like more.
I've had lunch here on numerous occassions when I've wanted something warm to fill my belly...and that's pretty much what you'll get here.
I've tried many of the various soups - borsht, chowder, veggie, chicken noodle, etc and, for those in the mood for something more substantial, butter chicken is often on the menu as is chilli as well as the daily assortment of sandwiches which you can order as a half if a whole one is too much.
I've had better soups. I've Made better soups (if I do say so myself!) so I'm not convinced that Soup Etc is an kind of Nirvana for soup lovers. It does the trick, for me, but that's about it.
At times, I have even been disappointment in my order and, as a result, don't tend to frequent the place as much as I have in the past. Some of the soups have bare too much resemblance to the canned variety and I've experienced some rather thin versions of what should have been a hearty bowl.
The sandwiches are good, as far as sandwiches go. Again, nothing to write home about and many of mine have been a tad on the dry side, as well as lacking any kind of creativity in the ingredients.
A pet peeve of mine - the comfy chairs in the window section seem to be a bit too short for the table.
All in all, a mediocre experience but not a horrible one. -

Let me start this off right - if there is one thing you need to know about me its that I like soup. But not just any soup, I am insanely picky when it comes to soup and exactly what is in it.
And then I met Soup Etc and it is my best friend. They always have a lovely assortment of fantastically delicious soups - picky as I am about what is in it I never have a problem finding one I will adore.
If you like soup even a little bit this is a must go to. -

As the name states, they serve soup, etc.... Their soup menu can be broken into three categories: soups, stews and chowders, and chilies. The "etcetera" comes in by way of salads, sandwiches, cookies and drinks.
The soup selection shifts daily amongst over 32 recipes, with the stews and chowders totaling around the 14 mark. Everything is creatively named, oft making it a little awkward when ordering ("May I have a bowl of 'Wild Party', please?"). "Wild about Shrooms" is a popular favourite amongst their clientele, as is the meaty delight "Bunless Burger" and the "Garden Variety Chili".
Prices are reasonable, with the smallest sizes ringing in at $3.95 and the more expensive ones coming in at $5.95 (+tax). Each dish is topped with fresh ingredients and comes with a piece of bread.
It is conveniently located between Granville and Fir, right behind one of the busiest bus stops in town, making it the perfect spot to tuck in and wait out the Vancouver's notorious rain. -

After reading the positive reviews about this place, I went with high hopes. I was met with grave disappointment. To start things off, the guy working there was rude and unhelpful. It was my first time so I asked for his opinion on what I should choose. He stared at me as if I was asking for a million dollars and just shooed me towards the description cards laid on the counter without a word (keep in mind there was nobody else in the store so I wasn't holding up a line or anything).
I ended up with the Bunless Burger which was OK. Nothing special. Not sure if the guy was being lazy, but there was no bread or crackers or "fresh ingredients" that other diners have referred to. Just a cup on a plate. I ordered a small which was about the size of a toddler's snack and cost me $4+tax. A bit on the pricey side for a tiny soup. -

The squash soup I had was yummy, but the half-sandwich was kind of meh (not a lot of fillings, or meat). I'd hope for a little more value for ~$7 soup/half sandwich combo.

I'm actually sitting at a desktop computer in Soup Etc. on West Broadway Avenue typing this review right now. This little coffee shop/restaurant serves snacks and light meals (including, as its name suggests, fresh, delicious varieties of soup), and charges customers just 15 cents per minute to use one of the many available computers. A great place to recharge and fill one's tummy while catching up on e-mails and, perhaps, some work.

Soup etc. is what it sounds like: a little place to stop in to fill up on some hot soup or other light meal or snack. What they do best here is, of course, soup, and usually there are a few types to choose from at a time. Each soup is made full of healthy ingredients and you might just come in on a day when they've made one of your favourites but with a little extra zing in it. Yum! Especially good on a cold day.
