Review from Luke A.
Toronto, ON
If you want to see top-notch theatre, skip the garbage at the Princess of Wales and save yourself the drive to Stratford or the Shaw. Soulpepper does only a handful of productions a year, but they're of the same calibre as the more famous out-of-town theatre-fests.
Soulpepper's theatre in the Distillery District may be small, but the venue suits the kinds of intimate dramas they like to put on; they also make the spartan brick surroundings gel with the set designs. To their credit, they have a number of outreach and training programs for school kids and youth to encourage theatrical appreciation.
I saw Chekhov's Three Sisters here last season, and it was very well done--all the more impressive since Chekhov is hard to do justice to. But Soulpepper was able to make it funny and depressing at the same time, which is essential for the play to work. -

Gord and I saw "The Odd Couple" this afternoon at the Soulpepper Theatre in the Distillery District.
We'd never been to this theatre and were looking forward to it. The theatre is cute. Our seats were great ... row D, seats 1 and 2.
It's a three act play with two 15 minute intermissions. I didn't find it dragged at all.
This was a funny play and the actors did a good job.
I'm looking forward to seeing more plays here. -

A first-rate theatre company in a terrific location. I wish I could visit Toronto more often so I could attend all Soulpepper productions.
