Today I wanted to go to Maya Hair Salon with my two cousins because of the great reviews they got on Yelp..Maya was over booked so we boogied out ...Anyway we went into a shop 3 doors down from Sora where my Jennypurr got 2 items of clothing for $151.00 (a dress and a sweater ) and we asked the shop owner which hair salons around the area good and she said Sora...I got seen right away even though it as busy...I had my first haircut in 13 yrs after having dreadlocks by a sweet young lady who didn't really understand me but she gave me exactly what I wanted for $25.00...I thought it would be appropriate for me to tip $10.00 since I was really satisfied with her work...I would go back there for my next cut =)

Precise, skilled and friendly Japanese stylists work wonders for just $25! Despite the fact that English is their second language I haven't found it any harder to get my ideas across here than at any other salon. They have loads of hair magazines to look through and in fact, they seem to listen a bit more carefully than their hipster counterparts on Queen West. Even several weeks after a cut you'll still be impressed by how beautifully it falls. That's where their experience and attention to detail make a big difference. I'd continue to go to Eri at Sora even if they doubled their prices.

I usually get my hair cut here. Despite being in Korea town, the staff is Japanese.
They are usually busy (good sign) but I can usually get a haircut without making an appointment by showing up and waiting a few mins.
The owner rules with an iron fist (although she is delightfully polite/happy!) There are 4-5 female staff and 1 male stylist too.
The salon is pretty nice inside (and clean) considering it is a low cost hair salon. (A wash, cut and style only cost me $28). I've showed up before just to have my bangs trimmed and they only charged $5. Very decent.
Patrons are mostly asian but there are some whiteys like me who go. English is spoken, not great, but definitely enough to discuss/understand what you want done with your hair. -

In all honesty, Maya was my first choice but there were all booked up. Since I paid for my parking, I went strolling for the next best thing...And i found it! Sora salon was great. Everyone is very friendly. I had the pleasure of meeting Makiko who was a delight and spent great time on my cut. I picked out a picture from one of their Japanese hair mags and she kept it by her side to refer to it. I think thats what I like the most is that you can tell them exactly what you want and they deliver. She didn't try to sway or put to much of their own influence on your cut. For a wash and cut was $25 which was a bargain. Will be visiting her soon for a trim.
