Just about the best japanese style crepe I had!! Don't get me wrong Belly Good crepes was delish too but omg, the crust is so thin and crunchy.

I'm really jealous of you Californians and the abundance of crepe culture you guys get! I wish NYC had just as much. There's so much creativity and variety in the crepes offered here. Savory to sweet, and found almost anywhere! Taraval, Japantown, Chinatown, etc etc. I wish NYC took the creperie industry as serious as you guys!!

So of course I got the green tea gelato crepe since green tea's my favorite and it seems like it's a signature of sophie's! It was sooo good! I loved watching them make the crepe and knowing that it'll be hot and fresh unlike some other places I've tried in SF (cough cough) I loved the combination of red bean and green tea. Both complimented each other very well.  I have to say, my mouth was getting a bit of a brain freeze from the coldness of the gelato but it was so good!!

My friend got the mixed fruits crepe with mango gelato and he said the fruits were super fresh!

Now the question is, WHY CAN'T YOU COME TO NYC SOPHIE!?

There is something to be said about making the crepe fresh. They always come up crispy and warm!

There is always a line out the door but they always so calmly handled the order. The line moves rather quickly.

The cash only tends to get me as I seems to just spend them like water whenever I have any on hand. I have asked friends for money or ended up with offers of sharing from a paying friend.

I stopped by after the cherry blossom festival nearby, and it was super busy!! My initial thought was that it had to be good, with all the customers. I was really impressed to see that they offer gelato. Whatt?? Gelato in my crepe?! Yum!  A standard crepe with ice cream, chocolate syrup and strawberries will cost you about $7. Red bean gelato was an additonal $1.25. Nutella was an additional $1-something. The cost for my crepe turned out to be about $9. Call me cheap, but that's just wayy too much for a crepe.

Maybe we just came on a bad day when it was unbelievably packed, but I wasn't impressed with Sophie's Crepes at all. For such an expensive crepe, it was a huge disappointment! The crepe itself was soft and mushy. There was only one tiny scoop of gelato, and for that extra $1.25, I expected for there to be at least enough to last me until the bottom of the crepe! BOO!!

I love the dessert crepes here. The texture of the crepes are perfect, and their ice cream/sorbet... delicious! I usually get a crepe filled with nutella, strawberries and topped with green tea ice cream or raspberry sorbet. LOVE IT!!! The long lines however do deter me from going sometimes. I've been here once where they told me my crepe would take an hour, so I just left..... X_X BUT, that only happened once. All the other times, it was a fair wait. Must try!

Delicious, fresh, and cheap! My favorite is the Japanese crepe: red bean spread, green tea gelato, green tea sauce drizzled on top. Can't go wrong.

If you don't think a crepe is fantastic (savory or sweet)...then there's something wrong with you. Sophie's at Japantown offers goodness in a crepe. As for the savory side...they have ham/cheese, tuna and turkey. Now my personal favorite...their sweet selections include fresh fruit, jams, nutella, whipped cream and you can add ice cream or sorbet. All of this wrapped into a warm crepe...sign me up!

Note - cash only and they tend to get pretty busy (especially on the weekends).

    Overall...YUM!

OK, I do have to give it the 4 stars because the huzbeau loved it.  He likes Sophie's better than Belly Good because they make their crepes crispy on the edges.  Here's a picture: http://www.yelp.com/bi...

This was a true taste test because we're FATTIES like that and tried both places on the same day.  http://www.yelp.com/bi...
If you are not familiar with Japantown, these two creperies are only a few paces away  from each other in the Kintetsu Mall, with Sophie's next to the large bookstore.

But what's up with the arrogant "no-cameras" policy?  You can see the guy making the crepe at the window, and its not like they do anything spectacular.  Meh.  I'd take a half a star off just for that, but I'd have round it back up anyway.  Cash only, and there really is a line any time of the day.

Just a crepe.  No rum flavored crepes, no funny names.  You have a few choices of Asian ice cream flavors.  It's expensive for what it is, and I think that sums up J-Town.

However, it's just one of those places I've been to repeatedly over time, so I have a soft spot for it.  I suspect other rave reviews can be attributed to the same factor.

My go-to crepe spot is Genki... they don't do anything special either, but they have the best tasting crispy crepe. All about the batter.

This place has a special place in my heart; I've been a patron for well over 10 years, since I was in college and used to drive into the city to grab a late night crepe. Visiting here again during the Cherry Blossom Festival last weekend, I was so pleased to see that the prices hadn't changed.

Before the other Asian style creperies in SF, Sophie's was around. The thin, warm, crispy and less egg-y crepe that was wrapped several times around creamy, contrastedly cold gelato was crave worthy and special.

Sophie's quality has remained consistent all these years. My favorite remains the Japanese crepe: with red bean paste, matcha sauce, green tea gelato-- it's unbeatable. For just under $6 it's a worthy dessert. I would pass on the savory crepes-- the highlights remain gelato plus thin warm crepe (like a waffle cone).

My biggest complaint now is the wait; my hubs and I waited almost THIRTY minutes for our two crepes. I understand the popularity... but wow, that's a really long time. I could have gotten a bowl of ramen next door in the meantime... and after ten years, it's still cash only. REALLY?

I am not sure what the hype is about with Sophie's Crepes! The crepes here isn't that impressive. Sorry, but Belly Good is better than Sophie's... I feel like I get my money's worth there.

I came here a couple of times to see what the hype is about. But nothing here impressed me. They don't even give you enough fruits and toppings to fill the crepe up. Mine always came pretty flat and pretty sad looking. I mean I order, strawberry, banana, nutella and a scoop of ice cream... and it still didn't look like it was stuff with anything.  It is not really worth it if there is a long line in front of this place.

Service - meh, always busy and crowded, not much place to sit, and always less appreciated
Sight - glass window panel allows viewing of real-time crepe making. They used to use more egg and less likely to burn, so it's gotten down hill.
Tourism - NO. Pictures aren't allowed, nor are videos.
Food - excellent. I like all the sweet ones especially strawberry chocolate syrup crepe. Fresh strawberry, whipped cream and chocolate delicious comb, definitely a 5 star by itself.

I saw they have a relatively new flavored ice cream gelato style - Black Sesame. Really excited to try. I love the black sesame ice cream in Japan

Despite the 3 star. You should definitely try the crepe here. They are first class

Of course many of you know that for some crazy reason I like Japan Town. I like the people that work there and I also like to see Baby Sara & Sofia stuff their faces with Crepes and they like Sophie's Crepes.

Wed 3/14 we had to get rid of that crave we have for Crepe's.......
We had 2 Banana w/ vanilla Ice cream + 1 Strawberry with Nutella and yes it was totally groovy. We will be back here again in a few weeks and remember to carry cash because they don't take cards Cash only is the way to go here. Lucky for me I had a lucky bill stashed and everybody was super happy.

The service is always totally cool and yes we have had our up and downs here before but let's all be positive !!!!!!!!!!!!

The crepes here are not as yummi-soft as Genki, but the gelato quality here really does bring their crepes up a notch! The coconut, the black sesame, and the lychee are all super tasty! Prices are a little high, with a crepe being about 4-5 dollars and a scoop of gelato bringing it up another $2 - **BUT REALLY, DON'T GET A CREPE WITHOUT THE ICE CREAM!** This is a great once-in-a-while treat, so take the dive! Thanks BF for treating ;P

I've been coming here since I was a kid and even though Belly Good has nicer designs, Sophie's has better taste.

For starters their Crepes has a nice crisp texture, that just works better as a contrast to the ingredients held within. The ingredients themselves are always delicious though I prefer just plain gelato as a filling.

The crepe makers themselves don't seem that friendly but the cashier is always nice. She's always cheery and quick to help out.

A staple from my child that I hope will never go away, Sophie's is my favorite crepe place in SF. I've been here over a hundred times through the years and haven't once been disappointed.

What does Japantown and French style crepes have in common? They're both awesome.

It's the perfect crispy chewy texture that you expect from crepes and found in Japantown of all places. You can choose from different fillings from sweet to savory. They make their own gelato and have several fresh fruits to choose from. Being in Japantown, I was drawn to the green tea gelato with the macha sauce. It was the perfect combination that tied the two worlds together.

If you happen to be around the area or in Japantown, then this is place that you must visit. Sophie's Crepes, come for the crepes and don't forget the homemade gelato.

My love for ice cream never withers, as I continue to scrounge the streets of San Francisco for new flavors and ice cream deserts.  My quests are similar to that of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where he embarks on a journey to search for that mystical stone with only a hat and a whip.

I have heard of the ice cream crepes, but for some reason I never bothered to get some, though living only a few blocks away.  My girlfriend, knowing the way to my heart, took me to get some one night.  We ordered and ice cream crepe with vanilla ice cream, strawberries, bananas and chocolate.  It's as good as it gets

Located inside of Japantown's shopping plaza. Hands down the best crepes i have ever tried!! The only bad thing about it is that it can get a little expensive. But it is so worth it! Every time I am in San Francisco I make a stop at Sophie's crepes. Anything they make is good, especially the ones with nutella in it! Yummy!!! They take cash only, so bring some cash! They are also sometimes closed on certain days, so maybe make a call and see if they are open first? I love Sophie's Crepes I am forever a fan of yours. No one makes delicious crepes the way you guys do. Keep it up!

Ordered a crepe with mixed berries, nutella, & green tea gelato & a Belgian waffle with mixed berries and nutella gelato to share. Flavors combined were perfect; not too sweet, nothing overpowers, and perfectly portioned. The texture of the crepe wasn't the best I've ever had, but still good. I'd recommend the Belgian waffle for sure. It was my first time having it and omg the softness/slight crispiness and warmness mixed with the cooled whip & gelato = heaven in my mouth. Best dessert spot in SF so far :) highly recommended.

My boyfriend had the strawberry Nutella crepe with vanilla ice cream (extra $1 for ice cream) and I got the banana Nutella crepe with vanilla ice cream. Hella sweetened my day up. Soft, but then crunchy. Hot and good portion to bite off of it.

    Reasonable price. Cash only.

The best crepes in San Francisco, hands down. I might be biased because I'm Asian, and when you tell me I can get a crepe with black sesame ice cream...I would probably cut you off and start sprinting towards Sophie's Crepes immediately.

Crepes + ice cream is already a winner but crepes + ASIAN ice cream is downright one of the best fusion of cultures ever!!

I don't like how the space is just SO small and when it's crowded you don't know where the line is and you can't hear when they call your number.
Also, they are pretty slow at making the crepes, but all worth it. Just avoid long lines.. unless you're really craving one that much!

I have been coming here for three years now, and the food is always great and yummy.

However, coming here today at in the afternoon with a few of my friends, I witnessed upsetting behavior by a woman who appeared to be the manager or owner. She was visibly and audibly upset with one particular worker who was taking orders and manning the cash register. I could not believe the way she talked to this young kid. She basically blamed him for the line being long and told him he was not doing his job correctly. She said something along the lines of, "I am paying you, and you're not even doing your job." This angered me because you simply don't run such a successful company like that. Keep in mind, this was IN FRONT many customers, not somewhere in the back, but where everyone could see here. I felt very sorry for him because he WAS doing his job. He took our complicated order, finished the transaction promptly amid the long line, and was kind. At many places, the cashiers are rude, slow, and simply don't care about you, the customer. They just want to hurry up with their shift and go home.

Sophie's Crepes, I have deep love for you, but it's stuff like that that is a HUGE turnoff for customers. It's an embarrassment and unprofessional.

    Definitely check out Sophie's!

After having cupcakes from Cako bakery downstairs, my boyfriend and I wanted to take pikapika pictures.. well, actually I was the only one who wanted to take pikapika pictures lol. Little did I know that we would stumble upon Sophie's! I told my boyfriend that we NEEDED to try Sophie's and he agreed.

Surprisingly, on a Friday afternoon, we were the only people there. The store itself is small, but clean. The workers are friendly and they have a variety of crepes/ice cream to choose from. I settled on a nutella crepe, and I forgot what my boyfriend got, but all I remember was that it was good! The crepe batter is sweet and not too thick which to me, is perfect! The crepes were a bit pricy for the size, but other than that, everything was good!

Anything with nutella is sure to be good, but Sophie's Crepes makes it magical. I love things simple so I usually just get the strawberry with nutella crepe and it never fails to make my day.

I've tried other crepe places and they just can't get the soft and crispy right like they do here. Most people I know love adding gelato, but its a bit much for me. The only things I hate are that it's cash only and it can get really really busy. But if you do happen to come on a busy day, just be patient because it is SO worth the wait!

Good ice creams! If you are into Asian flavor ice creams, you have come to the right place. They have green tea ice cream, black sesame ice cream. all very good.

My personal favorite is the red bean paste green tea ice cream wrapped in crepe.

Although their crepe is that unique, they do have good quality ice creams and that's what makes me go back again and again, despite their lousy service.

Good crepes, good ice cream, but incredibly overpriced.  For what you pay you would expect to at least get your craving's worth.  The pictures all make the crepes and sundae cups look so big, but when you actually get it in hand you will be sorely disappointed.  Why so stingy?

Worth a try, but I can think of much better dessert places if I'm going to dish out $6.  Will try the other place "Belly Good Crepes" next time I'm in the area.
