Review from Emma L.
I had a lovely massage this morning from Kaely at Soma Studio. Great hours -- 8am to 7pm means that those of us who don't want to miss work can go in before or after regular business hours. The studio is in a really cool building on 6th between Fir and Granville and the rooms, while small, have great natural light. I loved the heating pad -- just that extra bit of relaxation! Kaely was a great massage therapist, she found a bunch of tense spots that I didn't even know about, and used just the right amount of pressure. She also showed me some stretches afterwards that will help me with my particular issues. Fantastic studio, will definitely go back.

I called Soma last year and asked if I can still use a gift certificate that I received a while back. She said no problem. Then I called this month hoping to book my massage with them and the lady said that it had already been used! I know for a fact that it was not used because I had it in my hand and I have never been to Soma in my life. Then the lady on the phone implied that I was lying and that I possibly "stole" the card. I am in the service industry and I know NOT to ever accuse a customer of lying or scamming the system. Her unpleasant attitude actually made me want to forfeit the 60 min massage and anything that comes from Soma for that matter.
I'm very disappointed. -

I've been seeing Fran at Soma Studio for a few years now and man is she excellent at easing out unhappy knots and angry muscles. At Soma, they specialize in therapeutic, Swedish and pregnancy massage.
I generally have a lot of tension in my shoulders, upper back and legs due to my job. I would be in some serious trouble if I weren't getting semi-regular treatments from Ms. Fran.
The last time I was in a could have stayed overnight I was so meltingly relaxed.
Soma is the bomb. Look no further. -

I've been getting massages at Soma for 5 years. Soma's founder Lori was recommended to myself and my mum by an old family friend, and for years while I was living in the States I would see her for a massage whenever I passed through Vancouver. Sooooo good.
Now that I live here (and have insurance coverage!), I go every few weeks. Lori doesn't do a lot of evening appointments, so I've been forced to try some of the other RMTs on staff. Should all things we are forced to do be so nice!
I have certainly never had a bad massage at Soma. I haven't tried all 11 of their masseuses yet, but my favourites so far (apart from Lori) have been Ateshia and Kaely. All three of them seem to have a magical way of making an hour-long massage seem like more (instead of the more common feeling you get at the end of a massage - "already? it's done already?")
In short, I highly recommend both the calming atmosphere, and skilled massage therapists at Soma.Listed in: Primping and Pampering

Lori has magic hands! If you are fortunate enough to experience her massage, your life will change. I always learn something new from her. The studio is really cool too! Comfortable and inviting, with some groovy tunes. It is a small space, but it always leaves me feeling expansive somehow. Everyone seems to radiate professionalism and positivity. Check it out, its a gem!

Thanks to Jessie - I was able to find this place just outside of downtown Vancouver. After my unfortunate experience at the Absolute spa, I just had to get away and find a place that just focussed on good massages and good service.
It was a little difficult to get an appointment as the place does not have a front desk receptionist so you are playing phone tag. You leave a message telling them what you want... they call back when you may not be around to answer to offer you a time.. and you call back again to confirm or reschedule the appointment.
It was a beautiful day as I walked along the granville bridge and walked into this very interesting mixed use building with both businesses and housing.. taking the elvator up to the third floor, i found the right door number and walked into this mini santuary. There was calm music and the sound of running filtered water. I filled out the necessary paperwork with my medical history, and went with my RMT, Michelle into the massage room. She was very thorough and made she knew what I was looking for and explained how my body works. There was a heating pad under me throughout the whole massage and unlike other places, I was able to see the daylighting of the exterior which was nice at times, but a little awkward (different) at others.
Just when I thought I had found someone who I could regularly go to.. I found out that she's moving to the island in the next month.. boo. They say all their RMTs are good but still - I just want to stick with one person. This place specifically specializes in pre-natal massages - they have something that helps woman be able to get massages on their stomaches, instead of on their sides.
Another thing is double check with their style of payment.. not sure if you can use credit cards.. maybe VISA only.. but I ended up writing a cheque. I will definitely come back and hopefully, find someone for massage therapy for good!
