We were tired of spending weekend afternoons sipping coffee, so we decided to hit up Soma for a glass of white before four. It was a great idea. This shop has the feel of a café and does, indeed, serve coffee. But they also have a great wine list up on their chalk board.
The waiter was pretty laidback; he even slid into the booth beside my pal when he took our order. We didn't feel rushed at all and lounged for quite a while over the wine ... and decided we liked it enough to stay for a second glass.
Overall a good experience and I'm looking for an excuse to go back for dinner - or a wet lunch.Listed in: Best Places to Drink Delicious…

USASoma is indescribable. It's the kind of place that almost makes me wish I had more tastebuds, simply because everything was so deliciously overwhelming I'm worried some of the awesomeness was lost due to the simple biological limitations of my mouth.
The chartucerie appetizer was well-portioned and creatively presented, but the star of the show was the dinner course. Mmmmm, dinner. The buffalo rib was falling apart tender and bathed in tomato with tangy olives. The side of white beans with asparagus was buttery, rich, and perfectly cooked. I ordered a side of mashed gold potatoes on a lark, and I'm glad I did - if I didn't have some nice familiar starchy goodness to go back to every few bites, I think my tongue would have exploded from sheer taste overload. The mushroom pilaf entree was just as rich and full of truffle goodness.
The beer and wine pairing was also excellent, and the tiramisu was served in a portion large enough for two to share with ease. Perhaps-sadly, I was introduced to Gulden Draak, which greatly increases the chances I will spend a large amount of my free time in a fruity yet ass-kicking Belgian stupor.
Dinner for two with two drinks each, an entree and a shared appetizer came in under $100. Not too shabby for an evening on the town, especially given the excellent quality.Listed in: A Day (or Three) in BC

My partner and I where tired of the same haunts for Sunday brunch so decided to find somewhere new...most places on Main st. have a line up by 11am..but lucky for us Soma was almost empty..usually not a good sign..but in this case I think most people think of Soma for lunch or dinner...
They have what looks to be a delicious menu for supper..a fantastic wine list and great cheeses..which totally will take me back there..I like to believe that no one could screw up wine and cheese...
We ordered 2 Americanos and the eggs benny...the server was relaxed and laid back..he didn't rush us and was just chill..perfect service for a lazy Sunday..the food took a little longer then we though it should..but it was delicious and well worth the wait! also..one of the best Americanos I have had in a while...
I look forward to trying them out for a nice weekend meal...Listed in: My Main Street Mainstays

Great for talks over wine, appies and beer.
Food: Good but not great. I usually go for appies but went there for cousins birthday and had full dinner. Disappointment. Main dishes lacked seasoning (mistake numero uno) although desserts not too bad.
i.Heart: Meat/cheese appe. Baked brie, creme brulee.
Service: Good but the place is pretty busy. I was there on a night they only had 1 waitor for the entire floor (props to her, she did well), double you tee eff?
Ambiance: Casual and cozy, get-to-know-your-table-neighbours type of place. -

Soma's got a great atmosphere, good food and excellent wine. It's tucked away from Main St so it's away from the traffic and noise, but inside it has its own great vibe.
We were there on a Friday night before a show. We arrived around 8 o'clock and were able to get a table easily but by the time we left around 10ish, the place had really filled up - mostly with people coming for a drink.
The food is excellent. I would definitely recommend the Baked Gruyere Fondue. -

Excellent restaurant- the kitchen is small, so they recommend approaching the menu tapas-style. This is a good choice for practical reasons as well, as portions are small. Small, but excellent. Our table of four had about nine plates, and everything was terrific. Particular kudos for the calamari and the risotto, which was actually more like a lovely, tasty, trufflely stew. Well worth the visit.
