Wandering aimlessly, staring at my iPhone, scrolling through Yelp, in the freezing Victoria night, I looked up to spot this little gem on Douglas. Craving a yellow curry Thai dish, I quickly checked yelp, saw one good review, and wandered inside.
The server was super friendly, and sat me right away with water and a menu. After a few minutes with the menu, I was disappointed to see they didn't actually have a yellow curry dish. I asked her for a few suggestions, and ended up with a Pad Thai, which I don't normally order because I'm not a fan of this all to often ketchup flavoured dish.
When my dinner arrived, I was happily surprised to see it was completely devoid of the classic red tinge. The portion looked big, but I had no trouble finishing it. Medium spice, it was just right. Enough to keep me warm outside, not enough to make my nose run. That's my own perfect level and measuring system. The peanuts tasted freshly toasted in house, the lime, which I love on a lot of things, was plump and juicy, not the dried up cut fours ago version all to often encountered. The tofu was a little but tough, but I'm no tofu expert. All around, this dish was really great. Sauced and cooked just right. I have no idea if Pad Thai is a North Americanized dish, and claim no knowledge of it's authenticity, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
Service was fast and friendly, decor is simple, not overly done, with beautiful fabrics on the tables, offering a nice warm setting, perfect for a date, or sharing multiple dishes with friends. With tax and tip, my meal was just over $12, which I thought was great for the quality of my food. Only hiccup was, I'd asked if they had yellow curry, and been told no, but on the way out the door I noticed the special, yellow curry fish entree. So, double check the specials, and enjoy! -

Cute restaurant, ok food, brutal service. Our server had that perfect combination of arrogance and uselessness. Getting water for us was a chore and after waiting 10min for the bill we realized it was due to her eating her dinner while we waited.
$48 for an appy platter (Costcoesque frozen poo-poo's), 2 entree's and a bottle of Singha.
We won't be back... Sorry Chef -

Sod Sai Thai is a small, unassuming place on Douglas Street. Their prices are really good, which made me nervous at first - but the food was great. Their coconut curry was as good as any in town. The waitress recommended the crispy taro appetizer, which was excellent, especially if you are a big fan of taro such as myself.
I liked the food so much I ordered take out a few nights later with a big group of people and everyone was impressed by the food. Though Sod-Sai doesn't look like much from the outside it is probably the best priced Thai place in town and definitely doesn't compromise on quality. The service is really friendly too!
