I can't say enough awesome things about Smooth Sugaring. I've seen Jill since 2008 and recently started seeing her associate, Thomasin. They are both very warm and friendly and provide excellent customer service.
I was really nervous for my first appointment because up until then, I had only ever used razors. Jill talked me through the entire appointment and explained too me how it works as well as after-care info.
The atmosphere is very trendy and well lit with beautiful wall art and hip music. I would definitely recommend Smooth Sugaring to all of my friends! -

I highly recommend Jill. I have been waxing regularly for 4 years and just started sugaring. As an out of towner looking for someone I can trust, she was warm, friendly and efficient. She uses great products and even gave me a sample of PFB. I am excited for my next visit.
There's not enough good things to say about Smooth. Sure, it's a small spot, and sure, it's not exactly cheap, but once you go, you'll never go back to waxing or - gasp - shaving. Jill is not only a warm and wonderful person, but she is super knowledgeable about all things skin and hair related. She'll give you samples and advice, as well as a sugaring that doesn't irritate the skin, lasts a long time, and isn't as painful as waxing. Go - you will NOT be disappointed. -

I tried a Brazilian wax once and it hurt so much, I almost cried. The lady wasn't even able to finish.
That being said, while I can't handle waxing, I can and LOVE sugaring. Is it weird that I almost look forward to my appointments now? Sugaring to me is superior in just about every way-- it's faster (I come in every 4 weeks and my appointments never last more than 12-15 minutes), WAY less painful (even for crybabies like me) and the results last longer. Every girl (and guy?) should try it!
I love Jill too, she is so sweet and friendly. Never makes me feel uncomfortable or awkward. She is really good at what she does and genuinely cares. TMI alert: When I had an issue with ingrowns, she went above and beyond to help me correct this.
Although I HATE to do it, I'm rating Smooth a 4/5 because sometimes after a session, I notice areas that seem to have been.....errr, missed, meaning I have to fix it myself at home. Kinda wish I didn't have to but other than that, everything is perfect here. -

I'm over waxing after having my first sugaring experience with Malia. I was hoping to get back into a waxing regimen, but heard about sugaring as a less painful alternative that doesn't require as long of grow out. The price was comparable so I went for it.
The studio itself is very clean and professional, Malia asked if it was my first time and stepped me through everything she was doing and what sugaring was all about. Ever get a wax and immediate get overheated and sweaty from the stress/pain of it? Well, small touches like a fan blowing cool air directly on me or great music (Radiohead) made me all the more comfortable.
Overall I found it to be less painful than waxing, just as effective and Malia only charged me for a maintenance sugaring ($60 as opposed to $75). Totally recommend! -

I have been going to Jill since 2008 and I love her!
Before finding her I had been around the waxing block (as a result too many people have seen alllll of my secrets..).
Personality-wise Jill has it all: good recommendations on music and food, charming self deprecating humor, and a not-over-the-top bubbliness that I find quite endearing. A++ for attitude! Unlike another reviewer (an anomalous review for sure) I have never felt humiliated by her in any way. She is body positive and has never mentioned anything remotely uncomfortable to me.
As for sugaring: I find it less painful than regular waxing (i have sensitive, paper-thin skin and am prone to ingrown hair) and my skin recovers a lot more quickly when I sugar vs. wax. I still hurts though, so pop an Advil before you go to take the edge off. I get a LOT less ingrown hairs since I switched to sugaring, which makes me look better and is a way more comfortable.
Parking is free and readily available (At least after 3pm, I've never been before that).
The studio is cute, unique, and clean. Jill is my favorite! Overall I am always happy with smooth sugaring studio! -

Jill was recommended to me by my friend Rachel years ago. She told me about sugaring, and I was interested. I first started seeing Jill before she had her own studio, and I had never even experienced waxing before. Needless to say it was literally an eye opening experience.
I loved Jill though. Somehow lying half naked on her table while she ripped your hair out from your Southern regions was not awkward. That is a testament to how great Jill is.
I followed her to her new studio, and she is ever bit as great. I even trusted her to my eyebrows, and they were the best ever. I had tried wax before and with my sensitive skin, it would just burn or give me hives. I don't have the same reaction with sugaring.
Some health problems have kept me away for awhile, but Jill still remembered who I was, the details of my life and was as sweet as ever. I would highly recommend her, she somehow makes a seemingly uncomfortable procedure an enjoyable experience. -
Review from Joshua B.
OK, first of all, I can't believe I'm admitting I go to this place.
Second, holy mother fracking crap - OUCH! Ouch, Ouch, Ouch. I will admit it, I am a baby about pain. My wife says I have the pain tolerance of a baby. My baby says that's an insult to him.
Seriously - this was far better than my experience getting waxed that one time before I went on my honeymoon. It was quicker, less painful (but still hurt) and a lot less "sticky" afterward.
I had a little trouble scheduling the appointment, but the place is easy to find (it's across the street from where the earliest reviews place it, but still in Madison Park), there's lots of street parking, and it's comfortable once you're in the studio. Not a lot of ambiance in the waiting room, but who cares. Jill has a great bedside manner, although she did try and keep me talking, which was really hard at some points when I just wanted to grab the sides of the table and wish the pain away. Did I mention I'm a big baby?
Note that I don't get any "naughty bits" sugared, and I can't imagine how painful that would be if you're at all hirsute. Just the unwanted hair in the areas one might notice were they wearing a typical guys bathing suit, instead of the seattle full-body covering (vacations sometimes require this sort of bathing suit wearing).
I'm not sure whether I'll make this a regular practice after my vacation is done (hurts, costs money, you don't stay hair free for all that long), but if you're just looking for a "special occasion" hair removal, or looking to switch from waxing to something less awful (how's that for praise), you could do worse than Jill @ Smooth Sugaring StudioListed in: ROTD - Reviews of the Day

Review from Kate J.
As a years-long Brazilian waxee, I heard about sugaring and was naturally curious. After doing some research online, I went to see Jill at Smooth Sugaring Studio.
Although not the easiest to find at first - you have to go down a side street after 7PM, and then down some stairs - my experience made it totally worthwhile.
Jill is very chatty and the whole process was extremely easy. Much less painful than waxing, way faster (in and out in half an hour), super duper easy clean up, and Jill was really precise and concerned that I liked the shape and final result. I have seen a lot of people say that sugaring is more expensive, but it was actually LESS expensive than some Brazilian waxes I have had. Plus she fit me in at the very first time and date I requested.
Since then, I have had fewer in-grown hairs, less grow back, AND she got more of the hair off than waxers usually do (I saw literally not one stray). PLUS she didn't make me do the "wave your ass in the air like you just don't care" position - I got to lay on my side with a bent leg.
I would highly recommend that anyone who gets waxed regularly at least give sugaring a try. I'm definitely sold. -

I have been a loyal customer of Jill's for over a year now, and I put my complete trust in her to make sure my girly bits are well coiffed.
She is quick, clean, soothing, and all around fun to talk to (you need that, nothing is more uncomfortable than being so vulnerable around someone who doesn't put you at ease).
I will never, ever, ever wax again. Sugaring is the only way to go.
Jill is awesome, and her prices are completely reasonable in comparison to other salons in town.
Beauty can be painful, but oh so worth it. -

The process of sugaring is great and Jill is a great sugar-er!
The process of sugaring is less painful than waxing and less painful than threading plus 100 times more sanitary than either of the two, that alone deserves 5 stars! I trust Jill 100% with my brows she never lets me leave until she's and I are both fully satisfied with the job done. And let me tell you it's always a job well done. Plus she's great to gossip about reality TV shows with. If you are thinking of trying sugaring instead of waxing or threading give Jill a call and make an appointment.Listed in: I feel pretty oh so pretty!!!

I came here to get groomed for my birthday bash. It was my first time getting sugared, but Jill was wonderful and really put me at ease.
Although it was painful, I found it to be more tolerable than just waxing. Certain areas are much less painful and other areas are just as painful as waxing. Face it, ripping hair out of your skin is gonna hurt. But overall, waxing hurts more. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd put sugaring at a 6 or 7 and waxing at 8 or 9, if that gives you any perspective.
It takes a little longer than waxing, but it's worth it. I probably won't do this on a regular basis because of the ouch factor, but it's great for special occasions.Listed in: I'm so useful!

Jill is my new best friend, seriously she saw more of me in the first five minutes of knowing her than people I have known 20+ years, my gyno and even some old boyfriends...is there any place but America where you can know someone five minutes, drop your pants and have them rip out the hair of your nether regions? Oh, probably...but still...
I went to Jill after reading her reviews on yelp and I have to say I agree with the majority - she is awesome! And, having been waxed before, sugaring is sooooooo much better than waxing! There is really no comparison. Was there pain? Of course, I'm going to get into some details here so if you are squeamish stop reading now, or skip to the next paragraph...anyway, the top part, not bad, the backside, not bad, between front and back, not bad, the middle of the front - painful, but temporary, you can suck it up for what little time it takes, and besides Jill talks you through it all.
Very clean, cute place, very private, no fear someone is going to walk in on you. Top notch! (or should I say, Top Snatch!)...he he he -

Once again....Jill exceeds every expectation I would ever have about sugering!!!
1st, lets just say that Jill has seen more of me than anyone else lately, and I love her for it!! Always promt, always über friendly, and she makes sure there isn't a hair around that shouldn't be!!!
I am a loyal customer...as I said in my previous review, I have been to one other sugering location in town prior to finding Smooth Sugering Studio, and nothing is like this. Her professionalism and attention to detail along with her great personality set her apart from anyone else.
Also, the ambiance cannot be beaten... Every 4 weeks...this is where you will find me.
Now, if I could just start working on getting my legs sugered...OI!!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Becky R.
This is a great way to remove hair! After trying to get a next day appointment at several places, Jill at Sweet Sugaring Studio was able to appease my need for instant gratification for the first time getting "sugared." I was used to getting brazilians by waxing, and I definitely have to say that sugaring is far less painful.
My favorite part about Jill's hair removal style is that she gets so damn excited when she sees a pile of your no longer attached hairs in her glove complete with hair follicle still in tact. That makes me giggle and know that she takes pride in her work.
It is a speck pricey for me, but certainly worth the personality. I return to her on a somewhat regular basis. Highly recommended! -

Jill is very friendly, extremely professional, and passionate about her work. She made me feel very comfortable even though this was my first "full" hair removal experience.
The sugaring experience is worlds better than waxing, and Jill is infinitely nicer to work with than any waxer I've ever tried. And it was less expensive. -

Skipping the known superiority of Sugaring to all other hair removal techniques (well documented in other reviews) I will keep my comments to the quality of this Esthetician.
Jill loves her work; she is enthusiastic about Sugaring and giving you the cleanest, most precise, thorough hair removal. She is detail oriented, a perfectionist, will not hurry your job but spends as much time as it takes. She makes sure that she is not just removing the hair but the follicle too. That adds weeks to your Brazilian. I've brought her Playboy photos of hair patterns I wanted to try and Jill is really happy to copy it. She'll even dye your "ahhemm" fun colors like PINK.
Jill keeps the conversation flowing so the appointment goes quickly and with dignity intact. She is constantly improving her business, recently with new scheduling program and email appointment reminders.
Jill has also been known to come into the studio off-hours to get a client ready for prime-time. If pain is not your friend, take some Tylenol or your leftover pain pills prior to the appointment. After a few treatments, it gets A LOT less painful (it's the trick of getting that pesky follicle out, you see).Listed in: High Maintenance

New to the area. First time sugaring instead of waxing I couldn't be happier with my experience!!
I found this place on yelp and wanted to let you know if you are considering going here, GO! Especially if its just maintenance, speaking from experience. Sounds like it might be the place to go (use Jill, she's been at it for a long time) if its your first time as well...wish I had a different first time waxing experience (OUCH!!!). Sounds like sugaring is the way to go.
Atmosphere was clean, comfortable, and very relaxing. Jill was professional, personable, and I felt very comfortable in this situation with her. It can be uncomfortable sometimes with a stranger looking and touching your nether regions. She talked me through the whole process and made light conversation to help me relax.
I've been a routine waxer and found sugaring to be less painful (although you still feel discomfort), extremely quick, and I am completely satisfied with the results. I didn't have the skin irritation that I normally do when I get waxed.
I'm definitely switching over from here on out. Sweet....literally! -

Just a note, as I think it's good to have all the info. I have waxed for many years. Waxing is not fun, but I have never had a terrible time with the pain. That said, I was excited to give sugaring a try.
I agree with all comments related to Jill and the studio. She is great, the space is very clean and professional.
My personal experience though, is that sugaring is WAY more painful than wax. The sugar is about the consistency of play dough. As such it is applied against the natural growth of the hair. You have to mix the hair into it for the hair to catch and then come out when you pull. Did you ever try the old epilady devices? It's like that.
So the pulling out part is about the same as wax, but the mixing the hair with the sugar is killer. I couldn't take it. :-(
I'm going back to wax. -

Jill has a great studio and its relaxing for me to take a few moments out of my day to lay on her table. So yes, I do enjoy getting my hair pulled because it is SMOOTH, for sure, after!
I never have a problem with parking.
Can't wait for the next time! :) -
Review from Rachel L.
Jill was my first-ever sugaring experience and I am thankful. Both she and sugaring are great. However, I now go to Sugar Sugar in Ballard.
Like another reviewer, I had scheduling troubles - showed up to my second-ever appointment to find the lights off and everything locked up and no one answering the door or phone. Jill told me later that she had simply forgotten my appointment. I get it; I've done it. But I would have let it go more quickly if she had at least offered to compensate me in some fashion for my wasted time and frustration. I was still planning to give her a second chance, but then Sugar Sugar came along.
Sugar Sugar managed to squeeze me into their schedule before my impending visit to the boyfriend. In the year since then, they've never messed with my schedule, and have always done right by my naughty bits. They also have better prices for "touch ups" so I'm sticking with them. -

Couldn't get better! Parking was a breeze. :) Easy flowing conversation, felt like I had known her for years. Was educated on sugaring and after-care. Offered a shot just in case the pain was too difficult to manage, as well as festive chocolates and satsumas since it's around the holidays. I'll be back, most definitely.

Jill was the first person that I ever saw for sugaring. My job was nearby Smooth so it was extremely convenient for me. I've now relocated & Smooth is an hour commute from me. I have been through hell trying to find somewhere nearby that provides as comfortable & quality experience as Jill. I won't get into the nightmare experience that I had yesterday getting what was supposed to be a brazillian from somewhere else. Jill is totally worth the drive. She never let's me down & always goes above & beyond to try to get those annoying tiny hairs with maximum comfort.

Sorry, Jill, I'm not as in love with you as I am with Angie, my waxer in Austin. These relationships take time, time that I'm more than willing to share with you during my stay here in Seattle.
Sugaring is awesome and way, way more sanitary than waxing (as everyone and their mom has said "no double dipping"). Plus, it's all natural...you can even eat it (sorry for the repetitiveness). Jill is amazing, very friendly and down to earth...I look forward to the continuing relationship.
It was my first time for sugaring and decided to come to Jill because of her awesome reviews on Yelp. You can schedule appointments online and she's quick to respond and willing to get you in at your convenience, for the most part. Of course, there are completely booked days so you may have to wait to get in or get put on the waiting list. But that happens everywhere, right?
Her area is a room sort of off to the side at the Tim Walsh salon, I was unaware of this and sat in the salon, waiting to be greeted. Tim told me she was waiting around the corner and, sure enough, she was. I had to fill out a questionaire thingie (very helpful, I'm sure...it asked questions about skin sensitivity, allergies, skin care habits, ingrown hairs etc.) and on we went! Jill showed me the sugar stuff and asked if I had any questions before we began. She explained each step of the process, from the preparation of the skin, to the hair removal, to the application of the soothing solution. She also showed me the hairs that had been ripped out...follicle and all. It was interesting to see. She's very meticulous and thorough, making sure everything is symmetrical...all the while being very talkative (I find it helps distract me from the pain). Asking me about post-hair removal redness, she put a mud mask on my face while she worked on the nether regions. Again, she was very meticulous, making sure everything was very symmetrical.
Yes, it hurts. I found that it hurt a little bit more than waxing, but maybe as the hair softens again it'll be okay and less painful the next time. Her prices are right, too...I paid only two dollars more than I was paying Angie. Jill offered detailed post-hair removal instructions...including not working out for 24 hours and exfoliation beginning 3 days post removal.

Ditto to what the others said. I like this better than waxing because it was a bit less painful and it is more hygeinic. I'll definitely be doing it again. I had a lot more pain after waxing than with sugaring, also - not just during the treatment. I think that's mainly because the sugar is not heated, so it decreases inflammation. Thanks to Jill for doing a great job!

Sugaring is way better than waxing. Jill is professional, and a nice person as well. I have super sensitive skin, this is not completely painless, but not bad at all, what is great is that I don't have bumps and red spots afterward. Jill is super!

I would recommend her services to anyone looking for natural hair removal at a great price. Jill will take excellent care of you....always! Found my first sugaring experience to be very positive! I even booked another appointment right after having my hairs yanked out. It was less painful than I was expecting. Jill is easy going and as we talked throughout the entire appointment I was able to relax. She was able to fit me into the time and day I needed to book, while other sugaring studios were booked for weeks. Her pricing is great too.

Jill is awesome. I have been waxed/sugared at several places and she is one of the quickest *and* most thorough. After going to her regularly, I could really tell the difference.
Jill also does a good job of making you feel as comfortable and relaxed as you can be during such things, so I never felt too awkward. She is easy and flexible with appointment scheduling, particularly with resched and cancellations. So appreciate it! Prices are reasonable.
Only downside I can think of is email response seems to take 2-3 days, but that's such a minor issue that I'm still giving 5 stars! -

As the previous reviews indicate, Jill is great and sugaring is such a great alternative to waxing. She makes you feel very comfortable and does a good job of distracting you with questions and chatter during the (pretty short) process. She also seems to genuinely love what she does and is very knowledgeable about the science behind hair removal. Her rates are also very reasonable. Definitely going back!
