Oh you know, I didn't find too much at Smoking Lily - just a one-of-a-kind dress made by a woman in Victoria with deep sage fabric, a braided belt and a screened feather that extends down one of my thighs.
And a pair of mixed media earrings with a silver reptilian base, a translucent top layer like tortoise shell and a dangling brown feather.
And the perfect gift for my mother - a sculpted baby head with green and brown paint dripping everywhere and a rhinoceros horn piercing its skull.
That's all. -

An old, local staple on Main Street, this is one of my favorite places to browse through when I can take a whole day to myself or with a girlfriend to peruse all the Main Street delights.
Everything in here is pretty and feminine, yet so functional and versatile. It is a little pricier, but it's totally worth it if you break down the numbers in terms of how long each piece lasts. AND you are shopping local!
I've gotten two pieces here (and I'm always wanting more) - a skirt/shawl piece that has lasted me for over 5 years and every Fall/Winter when I take it out to wear again, I still get compliments on this versatile piece.
I just purchased a simple black turtleneck dress that has one of their singnature prints on the neck part. The turtleneck is large enough where it's actually almost a cowl which in fact also be converted into a head piece for cyclists caught in the rain (no kidding). I work from home, so I sit in my dress with my neckhoodie up and I block out the world while I Yelp! The very first time I wore this piece I got compliments immediately as well.
I had my eye on a pair of fuchsia mittens I saw in the store too, hmmm...I'll probably run out for those too as soon the next time I leave my downtown cave.
Anyway, if you are in the Main Street area then you have to come here. It won't feel like you've gotten the full Main Street vibe until you do. -

Smoking Lily is one of my favourite stores on Main Street.
The store is filled with clothing items that all have some sort of quirky print on them. For example, they have scarves with Trudeau's face on them, or T-Shirts with scattered hearts on them. Their dresses and blouse-like shirts are really nice, and are appropriate for a casual or a dressy event. They also carry some jewelry, so that's a bonus.
It's a little pricey, but their stuff is good quality. It's just a beautiful store! -

Again with the lovely sweet little Canadian vibe.
It's the tiniest hole in the wall, but it's chock full of really stylie stuffs. My more well-dressed compatriots were enamored with many of the silkscreened lovelinesses.
I was immediately drawn to the plastic rings (bakelite? lucite? not sure) of flora and fauna. Tho I was tempted to create a plastic farm animal brass knuckle set, I forced myself to choose only one. And that's how I ended up with my cutie patoootie pink pig ring. the end. -

I love the A-line skirts they make.
From Victoria, the designers pay special attention to the fabrics, quality and originality of their products. They use silk-screen process to make their dresses and t-shirts, scarves and bags. I like their accessories and find that they are unique and original. The store is small and you just want to touch everything in site. The colours are very muted and sometimes not. Lots of greys and pinks, greens. It's not very inexpensive considering. The skirt I liked was more than $70, so if I'm dishing out that much for a skirt I think I would go somewhere else. -

I love that Smoking Lily have branched out from screenprinting (with their beautiful nature, science, and technology-inspired designs) into gorgeous woolen woven and knit fabrics.
They produce such classy, original stuff that I can wear to work or as dressy casuals, and that I'm always complemented on. I save up my pennies to buy something meaningful at Smoking Lily. It is a little pricey, but is generally far cheaper than the more generic big designer name things one can find at other 'boutiques'. Smoking Lily is actually unique. For the price, it's a steal considering they manufacture in Victoria and don't use sweatshops. Most of the other designer clothes I've seen are manufactured in third world countries - and cost at least as much if not more.
They carry sizes XS to XL, I should mention, that fit up from about size 2 to about size 14. Sometimes there is nothing I need in the store, but that changes several times a year. I just got a gorgeous stretch linen shirt-dress and their dressy assymetrical zippered cape, both perfect for work or more casual occasions. Their style tends to the modern and less fussy, with clean tailored details. Their color palette is interesting and not usually found everywhere else. The line is very feminine without being trampy or predictable. -

My sisters gave me a Smoking Lily scarf 10 years ago from the Victoria shop and it's held up great over the years. I was really excited to run across Smoking Lily on Main Street. I love their unique silk screened pieces. Another reason to love Smoking Lily is that they make their own items right over in Victoria with mostly local supplies.

Smoking lily. I love this shop. They've expanded and the new shop is such a pleasure to spend time in, but I've had to stop dropping by I can't afford $90 shirts...I wanted to just take a peek and see what new things they have, and before I know it, I am handing over my credit card for a lovely dress that I get a million compliments on.

My favourite Vancouver store! I love the uniqueness and handmade quality of everything they have. They come up with such great original designs that flatter everybody. I can't get enough of this store. The prices are steep but it's worth paying for when you know someone designed and made it locally. Everything is very high quality and holds up well. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Love it!!!!

A tiny yet totally terrific shop! All the designs in Smoking Lily on Main Street are sewn and silk-screened in-house by local gals, making each piece unique and affordable. Stop in and peruse one-of-a-kind finds inspired by nature and made from high quality fabrics. The accessories start at just $16.00 and the women's line ranges from $36.00 for sheer cap sleeve tees to $102.00 for screen-printed dresses.

I have been a fan of this Victoria-based design group since I first saw their wares in a favourite Calgary store and I was delighted to find this lovely shop on Main, fully devoted to Smoking Lily. The wonderfully affordable, beautifully silk-screened tops, dresses and accessories are subtle enough to be worn anywhere and special enough to have an impact!

I went into this shop today after passing by it numerous times. I'm not sure what made me pass it by. Perhaps because it's a tiny shop and looks like it sells very niche items. As it turned out, I really liked what they had to offer. They sell some quirky gear such as t-shirts with screen prints on them and a dress with a waistband that displays the table of elements, and there were some other really great pieces for both my boyfriend and I. I found a super cool wide belt that I wanted to buy as well as an awesome black bolero type jacket. The prices however, are not cheap so only drop in if you have a bit of cash to spend otherwise you might be leaving empty handed and feeling a bit sorry for yourself.

I've never actually bought anything from The Smoking Lily, but I'm always drawn in anyway but the great looking, handmade goodies that they carry here. This store specializes in silk-screened t-shirts, dresses, bags...anything that you can silk screen, they do it, and with flair. If you're looking for something unique to wear or for a great gift for a stylishly original friend, Smoking Lily is an excellent place to stop by. And you'll be supporting local talent.
