I decided to venture here after receiving a therapeutic massage at the oh so wonderful yelp elite event. my goodness, if the food wasn't already amazing, a massage was definitely the cherry on top.
I went back to the same RMT. LuAnne is lovely. A massage is one aspect, but she provides such a warm energy to the environment that makes the experience calm and soothing.
Thanks yelp for opening the doors to a new vancouver find! -

Yes, I am one of *those* people. I am the Canadian girl who went to Thailand and had a massage almost every single day for a month straight (because, why not?) only to come home and brag and whine and search for something that would come even a the tiniest bit close to the intensely calming and blissfully relaxing muscle-kneading experience that I once indulged in when being oh-so-worldly in Thailand.
I'm not sure what it is precisely about Thai massage, but when done properly, not only am I more relaxed and less tense, but everything in my body seems to work just the littlest bit better. And no, contrary to popular belief, traditional Thai massage is not a pretty Thai girl giving you a relaxing massage. This is a 'I need fixing in the worst kind of way' kind of massage. Circulation improves, focus becomes sharp and my skin glows in a way that is usually reserved for... more intimate post-moments. *ahem*
Calm, assured, focused and effective, the massage Austin gave was (dare I say) better than the very best I received in Thailand. Like the spice in my food, I like to *feel* my massage, and Austin gets that. The right amount of pressure, the right amount of small talk, the right amount of intensity, this was was easily one of the most thorough treatments I've ever had. Harmonizing the mind, body and spirit, all in Vancouver, all without going peace-love-hippie styles. Exactly what this girl was looking for.Listed in: The Essentials, Me Time

Smile Thai Wellness has become my little oasis in the city. I am a big fan of bodywork and have been to most spas in town. And I have to say, when it comes to quality Thai (or regular) massage, Smile Thai takes the prize. They also have the most relaxing and calming atmosphere in the city. They have put such loving attention into the décor that I feel as though I've been transported to Thailand. I regularly recommend this place to friends and they have all thoroughly enjoyed their experience. I have seen Austen and Joy and both of them are fantastic. If you need a massage and want the added benefit of some stretching (aka lazy man's yoga), I highly recommend the traditional Thai massage! You will not be disappointed.

Had the East West massage with Joy and it was wonderful. I contacted them via email the day before I wanted an appointment and they responded promptly.
They are located on Richards between Robson and Smithe at the back of a brown office building. The first thing that struck me when I walked in the door was nice the place smelled. The spa is nicely decorated with touches of Thai art. My therapy room had a sink and shower as well as a chair and the massage table.
My massage started with Joy washing my feet with a hot towel. After the massage she used more hot towels to remove the oil. The final touch after I dressed, was a nice cup of green tea.
Perfect rainy day activity. -

I just spent the better part of my afternoon with a small Thai person standing on my back.
As a fitness instructor, I should probably have regular massages. However, traditional massage is hard for me to sit still through without getting restless. Thai massage is my answer.
It's more like therapist-assisted passive stretching. Or like doing Yoga, only someone else is bending you this way and that. It's done in a beautifully decorated room with you wearing loose, comfortable clothing. Arrive early, and enjoy a cup of green tea beforehand in the quiet waiting room. You won't feel rushed to leave.
Smile massage offers couples massages too, in sessions of up to 90 minutes. -

Smile Thai Wellness is an oasis in our hectic modern life. I walked in, tired and sore with a shoulder injury. I saw Daniel, a Registered Massage Therapist, for a series of treatments. With his professional approach to treatment and knowledge of the body I was able to work pain free.
This is the prefect place to go for a balance of therapeutic work and a calm grounding environment. -

I tried the Thai message, it felt good. I would go back there if I am in the vicinity again.

After my return from Buddhist meditation in Thailand, I looked for an authentic Thai massage and found Austin at Smile Thai Wellness. Austin brings his Buddhist compassion (he was a monk in Thailand) and great skills. At the end of the session I get a cup of tea, a typical Thai hospitality. I get Thai Yoga massage once per month and recommend Austin to all my friends and clients. Smile Thai Wellness has a new place and a true oasis of Thai culture and health.

Austin is AMAZING! When I went in I was exhausted and cranky. I had never been to have a thai massage before and did not know what to expect. Austin was recommended by a rather large group of girlfriends who all said he has the "magic hands". Although it is a bit different than a regular massage it is in it's way better for those of us that are stiff and sore. I don't stretch enough and this massage was massaging as well as stretching and it was exactly what I needed to feel better. Austin refers to it as lazy man's yoga and it gave me that good stretch, the kind where you don't want to let go! I am already making time for my next appointment.

I found Austin 5 years ago while looking for a massage therapist. I had deep tissue massages weekly for years but after my first Thai massage, I never had another deep tissue massage. Thai massage incorporates the ideal combination of deep tissue massage and stretching which is exactly what I need. Austin listens and will spend more time on a particular area, if necessary. He customizes the massage to your needs and makes it a truly wonderful experience. I spend 5 months a year in Vancouver and see Austin weekly (sometimes twice a week for that extra treat). I have referred all my friends who thank me constantly. The new Smile Thai Wellness studio is so tastefully decorated and a sense of calmness comes over you the minute you walk in. Would give it 10 stars if I could. Can't wait to be back in Vancouver.
