Probably my favourite record store in the city. They stock up mainly on hip-hop, funk, soul and disco records. Old and new. And they are knowledgeable so odds are you might not get many deals but there's always a good chance you can grab some decent used records.

They appear to have a pretty decent-sized CD collection if that's your thing. They have EIGHT listening stations for vinyl which is almost unheard of. You should never have to wait to listen to your crate selections. They have plenty of used records in the back to keep yourself busy. Lots of used hip-hop for dirt cheap.

This is also connected to MOOG Audio which is essentially the best DJ gear location in the city, but I'll save my praise for them in a separate review.

Slinky Music has both the music snob and music noob in mind. If you're looking to pick up some audio equipment, turntables or records, SM has got you covered.

There's a good selection of both used and new vinyl-- indie, rock, techno, electronica, soul and much more. I'm a fan of the cheapie $1/ clearance bin-- there are definitely gems to be had there so make sure you leaf through it before you leave. New vinyl at SM tends to be on the slightly more expensive side, but many, if not all new re-releases and re-pressings include an MP3 version of that album available for download. While there were some records I found that had me doubting myself as music enthusiast, there are some decent finds that I've been looking for for awhile.

I really dug that one of their features on the in-store listening station was a cumbia compilation (in both CD and LP formats). A music-phile friend of mine just put me on some 60s cumbia bands from Peru so I'm glad to see that Slinky Music never misses a beat.

There are a lot of places to buy music in the City of Toronto. In some locations you can't swing a dead cat with out it trying to sell you it's rap cd.  The problem is that there are very few really good places to buy music.  Slinky Music is one of those places. There was a time in my life when I lived for music.  I hungered for it like a wild beast and I couldn't get enough. Slinky Music would have been the kind of store I would have visited very frequently.  They have a very good collection of music and a staff who are knowledgeable  enough to point you in the right direction if you give them a few bands you like.  Slinky Music also houses a very large selection of audio editing equipment, which while I would like to be knowledgeable about it I know very little, but what I did see was very impressive.  I would definitely recommend Slinky Music for music lovers in the know who are looking for the new thing.
