Slickety Jim's is honestly a perfect restaurant that accommodates a variety of diets across cultures. The atmosphere is always warm & inviting, and the food is great.

I love the staff, the service, and it's always packed with fun and interesting people. They play great music too.

The food is gourmet with very affordable prices (for us workin stiffs).

I highly recommend this place. One of the best Sunday brunch places in town.

    Peace.

I hit up Slickity Jim's for a lunch. Theresa had the veggie ommelette with gluten free bread. She sure did gobble it up and enjoyed the plate. It did look tasty with its homemade look and quality.

I had the je suis un petit carnard with two scrambled eggs, goat feta, and avocado on an English muffin, topped with tomatillo salsa, salad, and potatoes. It was tasty and messy (which I usually don't mind), but I felt it lacking a certain something.

It was a decent meal, if not, maybe a tad dissapointing. The service and staff were nice and I dig the home friendly decor and ambience.

    Came here for some coffee.

Parking is available on the side streets if you get lucky.

The place looks like your typical brunch joint.  Mostly.  There's a funky room in the back with this super tacky red and yellow striped paint job.  Reminded me of a circus.  My group was in the back but there is this super nasty smell right when you enter that room.  Was it from the washrooms?  I dared not ask.  Fortunately one's nose goes numb eventually.

As I did not have any food, I cannot comment.  However, my friends' breakfasts looked super delicious.  Will have to try next time.

As for the coffee I had, it had the little pitcher of cream.  There's a soy option available, as I found out today.  It wasn't bad, but coffee is coffee.  Not too much of a connoisseur.

One interesting thing is that they have a bottle of rooster (Sriracha) hot sauce on each table.  You know you're in Vancouver when..

It'd probably be a great place to check out, but avoid that back room.  Unless you don't mind gross smells.

I would love to give this place a better review because it's just oh-so-cute. But alas. I've been here (old and new location) several times and have always come to the same conclusion. The food is good, but not great.

I love the decor and ambiance -  so kitschy and cozy. And the menu SOUNDS out of this world. Yet somehow the flavours just aren't there. I always find myself slightly disappointed. Had the breakfast of broken dreams today. Potatoes were mediocre. The gorgonzola sauce was barely lukewarm and almost non-existent. The eggs were slightly over-poached. It was "okay." And I think when everything that I've tried on the menu has left me feeling much the same, it's safe to say that the food here is "a-okay" but nothing to write home about.

Great breakfast titles, mouth-watering descriptions, good quality ingredients, but sadly....missing that "oomph"

I was here for brunch and was pretty excited reading through the menu. The flavour combination sounded so glorious and I wanted to try several different dishes but in the end, I chose: "We don't need no eggs or bacon", which on paper, sounded like an intense tofu scramble that was going to shoot out fireworks from my mouth.

In actuality, nothing happened. It was just.. regular tofu scrambled up with little flavour, served with a side of potatoes and overtoasted toast. Bummer! It wasn't actually too bad, and I wouldn't mind trying it out again.. but I already know it won't be any more spectacular next time. I do however, pat them on the back for having a number of options for vegetarians and vegans.

The prices aren't particularly reasonable.. I thought it was very average? $10 per plate before taxes sound average for brunch, no? Overall, a decent place.

Went here one winter evening after a cold soccer practice with my son. There was a band playing in back, but it was not busy. I liked the decor - it's a bit like stepping into an old railway carriage.

The menu has a great selection of wholesome, toothsome options. Being rather hungry we started off with Patatas Bravas that made up in flavour what they lacked in presentation. To be honest, a big bowl of tomatoey starch was just what we needed at that point.

The burgers were great. Served on multigrain kaiser buns, they were perfectly cooked with great toppings. I had Asiago and roasted garlic. My son had the Motor burger which comes with chorizo. He also added bacon. He believes firmly in the maxim that vegetables are what food eats.

The only downside to our experience was the service. Considering there were no more than 5 people in the front room with us, it did feel a bit like our server had other things she'd rather be doing. We had to remind her before my son's got his drink - and that was after I had to call her back when she took my order and wandered off without asking about him.

    Meh.

Honestly, I could take it or leave it. I know Slickity's was known more for their breakfast fare, and my review is based on dinner. The service was pretty weak, I think our waitress was either stoned or just stupid, and our meal was kinda blah.

The BF ordered a shake, (which was almost forgot, except when we reminded our waitress that we already ordered a drink when she came back to take drink orders) which actually was the worst part of our meal. I recall Slickity's used to have these deliciously thick milkshakes that were mixed with an old school mixer, and tasted like a little piece of hangover-free heaven. This coffee-chocolate shake was runny, except for a clump of ice cream at the very bottom. We ordered up some dinner, the BF has the chilli and I had the mac-n-chese.  I had a bite of the chilli, which tasted pretty boring to me, much like my own dish, which came with a side salad (which was pretty good).

Our waitress was usually MIA, and seemed to take forever to get us anything, including our bill. I kinda felt like I could have got up and served myself at some points, *hello, water refills please?* Sure the menu is cheap and the food is decent, but it doesn't really make me wanna treck across the city to eat there. Save your money and make dinner at home.

Slickety Jim's has risen triumphantly from the ashes, to once again serve me my Morning Yearning. Like before, it's as popular as ever and continues to serve up solid breakfasts.
The move, or something else, however, has caused a few changes. In all of the visits I've made to the new location, something has either been amiss, different or sub-par. The good: The turkey sausages seem to be of a better quality than before. the location is bigger, so the waits I've recently experienced have been shorter.

The bad: Inconsistency. Same breakfasts at the same table, with different items on the plate. But the one thing that has suffered the most are the potatoes. All 4 of our plates on the last 3 occasions were loaded with heaps of steamy potato instead of the crispy goodness that used to be fit for cleaning up hot sauce. I've never before seen these same 4 people all not finish everything on their plates, but these new potatoes are not worthy anymore.

This was my second time here, and I was craving breakfast at 1 in the afternoon. I was planning to try something different from the cleverly named menu items, but I loves me some bacon. Which is why I ordered the Morning Yearning once again. Maybe I'm imagining things, but it seems the volume has gone down... Or maybe I just eat more now... The bacon was nice and crisp, the chorizo was juicy. Eggs were poached to order, but it would be nice if they used extra large eggs instead of small. Or maybe I just eat more now. Be prepared to wait a bit on weekends.

I have to say I love the atmosphere...I love the food (lots of great selections for both breakfast or whenever)  but I could do without A:) The waitress telling me SHE is too hot to close the front door...when it's 0 degrees out and I'm sitting right beside the door....I don't want to PAY to eat my breakfast with my coat/scarf/mittens on!  B:) This place attracts Hipster Douche Bags like cats to people with allergies (how do they always know?) Watch out for these Hipster Douche Bags....they will try to steal your table!  C:) They could use a staff member that just buses tables and takes care of the giant line up of people at the door and out on the street...the rest of the wait staff do enough already!

Don't get me wrong...I am indeed recomending this restaurant...just giving you some fore-warning as to what to expect...good food....good atmosphere...douchey patrons...and a little understaffed!

I was really sad to find out that the original Slickity Jim's was gone, but was only slightly consoled when I finally got to try the new (and improved) location. On the weekend that it first opened its doors, I hungrily rushed in for a highly anticipated brunch and was greatly relieved that the food was still great. My Je Suis Un Petit Canard and my brunch date's Breakfast of Broken Dreams were as delicious and satisfying as ever.

However, the rickety, greasy-spoon feel of old was what always drew me to the eclectic joint in the past and the too slick new retro decor just doesn't feel the same. I suppose that the much more streamlined themed rooms (vintage Western/Spanish bull fighter front room and bright stripey circus themed back room) are just the point - It's not meant to be the same. Don't get me wrong though. I don't think that different is bad. Everything about Slickity Jim's is still awesome. I just can't help but reminisce about the past. Maybe I'll just pretend like it's an entirely different restaurant.

I don't understand why some breakfast places in Vancouver get mythical status in Vancouver. I'm talking about Sophie's and Slickety Jims. Don't get me wrong, Slickety is a good breakfast place. Good vibe, decent grits, good service, but in my mind there is better places that don't have the line up. We had the basic breakfast, the wife has had the tiptoe through the tulips, both were good, but not out of this world. The toast was dry, potatoes boring, but the eggs and chorizo were good.

But for the life of me I can't figure out why Sophie and Slickety get the line ups. Neither are overly cheap, neither have brilliant food. In Vancouver, there are better places to eat that are cheaper and/or more expensive if you like (Flying Swan, Acme, Cafe Zen).

That said, i'm glad they rebuilt SJ. It is decent, in a good area and good service. I'm sure we'll be back, it just won't be the first choice.

Used to go to Slickity's at the last 2 locations - Powell and Main & Broadway. Always liked the food and the atmosphere although the coffee is standard greasy spoon fair.

Went to the new location BC Day and wow... From the time we ordered to when the food arrived I swear we had time to go to the Crave, order & eat and then return.

Aside from the wait & the hunger pains only 3 of our 4 meals arrived! Sorry to our friend who had to watch us eat before his came another 10 minutes later without the bacon he had ordered on the side...

Oh well, my breakfast was tasty, but my fiancé had cold potatoes.

Next time I'll go to the Crave.

I had high expectations for this place, but I can only give it 2.5 stars.

    Pros:
    -great location
    -nice decor
    -roomy (very cool back room)
    -service is friendly

    Cons:
    -service is slow
-food is only okay [chirizo was overcooked and hard to eat (tough)]
    -coffee was again only okay

Will have to politely pass for next time.

Great service, okay food, busy place.

People have been waiting a long time for the return of Slickity Jim's, and they have come out in full force to the new location.  This place is busy!  Which means expect a long wait, especially for large groups.

The staff here were very accommodating and friendly.  No issues with the service.  The menu was the same or similar to the old menu, which was nice to see that they kept the food people loved.  I was hoping for some 3 cheese macaroni, but they don't have that for brunch on weekends.  So I went with a Sweet Sassy Moses.

My benny promised brie, proscuitto, and artichokes.  Mmmm.  What I received was not what I expected, but I was hungry and ate it all since we had been waiting to get in for so long.  It wasn't until on my way home I realized there had been no brie on my benny.  Sadness.  I do love cheese.  My bennys were basically a poached egg on a buttered English muffin with hollandaise (I did like their sauce) and proscuitto and a quarter of an artichoke heart on the side.  I was expecting it all to be layered in my benny.  But instead I had to cut pieces of each and try and jam them in my mouth at once.  I really wish they had layered it.  And remembered the cheese.  Without the brie and only a quarter of an artichoke heart it wasn't really worth the $10.50.  The potatoes were okay, but I like them a bit crispier.  I did enjoy that they used red potatoes, though.

The new place looks nice, and I like the back room where it is quieter and you can sit at bigger tables.  It's a nice space, and I wouldn't have guessed that there was a room in the back.  The bathrooms were clean, too.

I'm guessing they had to get a new chef so maybe they are still learning the menu.  I'd come again with a smaller group, but wouldn't order that benny again.

The new Slickity Jim's has a lot to live up to, and a nearly-2-year absence doesn't do it any favours.  The old one (on Main and Broadway) had great food, great service, and great decor.  This new one has okay food, okay service, and okay decor.

We went during Easter weekend and ordered Tip Toe Through The Tulips - our old faithful.  At new Slickity's they've kept the menu the same but added some 'pieces of flair'.  Tx5 v2.0 was much like v1.0 - spinach, asiago and artichoke heart scrambled eggs, served on top of an english muffin, with a side of roast potatoes, salad and a skewer of fruit (or an orange slice) - but bland, and it came with an unpleasant avocado-and-onion relish.  And for some reason, the salad didn't come with dressing (so then it's just 'a side of leaves'?).

We went late in the day, and most of the breakfast stuffs were out (no hollandaise, no strawberry ice cream for shakes, etc).

Understandably so, the new location has lost much of its eclectic decor.  Mismatched chairs and tables have now been replaced with matching furniture, and it no longer feels desperately crammed with people and things when you're eating.  The service is nice, though, and the servers attentive.  The price is right for what you get.  And we really liked the music.

I don't know if I'd go out of my way to have breakfast there again.  The new location is definitely not as bus-convenient.  I'm sure I could grow to like it, but maybe it's time to let old Slickity's rest in peace.

They're open early to late and now serve booze and dinner.

Since the moment that I heard that Slickity Jim's would be re-opening on Main Street, I had been waiting with bated breath - I counted down the months, weeks, days... and finally, it was here! I met up with a friend for brunch, excited to tuck in to one of my old favourites.

I ordered Another Typical Benny, and my dining partner ordered The Honey Man City Butter.

Here's the thing... I was sooooo looking forward to this breakfast... and then when I got it, it was cold, and there was A PIECE OF BACON IN MY HASHBROWNS. I was on a first date and didn't want to make a giant fuss about it, but the whole thing made me pretty sad. I would like to think that this was an isolated incident, but I have two friends who have had similar experiences and were scoffed at when they pointed it out.

My counterpart for breakfast immensely enjoyed his french toast, so not all was lost.

I would like to give the new Slick's another try one of these weekends,  but I'm not sure if I'm willing to brave an hour long wait for a potentially disappointing brunch.

On a side note: I would have to agree with Malloreigh's assessment of the tofu scram. It desperately needs a re-vamp!

All day breakfast, with most (if not all?) menu items under $10. The portions were big, but not of the how-can-any-one-human-being-eat-this-much variety you find in many other places that serve breakfast all day. Also, the booths appear to be made out of old school bus benches (they must have been re-upholstered though... They were more comfortable than any school bus I've ever been on), to go with the supertrendyhipster main street location.

My toast didn't come with jam - I didn't ask for any, I just thought it was weird, since jam is normally served with toast in places like this. Also, there was a bottle of Sri Racha hot sauce on the table that I would have used except that it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time.

But this is quibbling. The food was really good (scrambled eggs, chorizo, bacon and chili, with potatoes and toast for me; eggs benedict with avocado for my companion). It hit the spot.

Visited the new location for brunch this weekend. I was super excited, as Slickety's was one of my top breakfast spots before it burned down. This time I couldn't remember why I loved it so much. I used to adore the variations on the eggs benedict here, but my friend's benny looked less than awesome and they forgot one of the key ingredients. My omelet was fine, but nothing fantastic. My boyfriend's waffles took forever to come -- I was almost done my food by the time his arrived, and I was eating slowly to try and avoid that. I'm hoping it's just a new chef who needs time to adjust to the menu.

Service was excellent, and they managed to accommodate our large party, which was nice. I'll give Slickety's some more time to get back up to speed and check them out again.

My favourite breakfast place is back! If you didn't see me running up and down main st in excitement, don't worry you didn't miss much.
Society Made me what i am, this is what i kept telling people was my favourite dish, and it usually got me some odd glares.. but it's back, and it's on the menu, with all it's old jems. Today i opted for Je suis un petit canard. Simple, yet so delicious. Coffee with warming and great. Service was cooks a smiling. They still have the bar stools, plus an extra room on the back that looks out calmly into the park. It also looks like they might have a deceiving outdoor area, but i don't think they do. Heard so much about this place so went along with my wife for lunch. Place was busy with a line up, so we sat at the bar and ordered from what I can only describe as a pretentious menu. Eggs bene with chorizo sausage for me and chicken quesadilla with brie and mango salsa for my wife. After what seemed eternity my lunch arrived with my eggs bene, roasted garlic and half a chorizo sausage on a large plate with a huge amount of tasteless potatoe wedges for $11. To there credit the eggs were cooked beautifully and the roasted garlic was a nice touch. But come on, half a chorizo, and half the plate filled with potatoe wedges. What's that about? Why not pan fry the potatoes with onion and the roasted garlic and maybe a little more sausage on the plate. Enough said. My wife's Chicken Quesadilla was a disaster. The chicken was hard and one piece had a little sinew. The mango salsa was tasteless. Could have done with a little heat. Would not go back!!!!!

I was so excited by the return of Slickity Jim's...that is until I ate there.  I  regularly went there for breakfast before the "suspicious" fire enveloped their old location.  Still as busy as before, but nothing special anymore.

Maybe it's because the creepy baby doll head was no longer hanging on the wall, watching every bite I took... I found the food just didn't taste the same.

But the killer was my dining companion noticed that the chorizo used in the chorizo benny tasted exactly like the chorizo she bought from Costco the week before.  I realize that they have to get their ingredients from somewhere, but I would have expected a little better than meat from Costco.

I didn't think it was possible, but Slickity's tofu scramble is EXACTLY THE SAME as it was at their old location down the road at Main and Broadway. It tastes exactly the same. My food-memory is pretty spot-on (what a skill, right?) and they really didn't change a thing.

I wish they had. This is not a totally uninspiring tofu scramble, but it's nothing special, either. Slickety's joins the leagues of Vancouver eateries that offer a vegan breakfast option so as not to completely alienate the friends of their primary omni or ovo-lacto-vegetarian clientele - but they're not trying to entice vegans, either.

I was really hoping that when they reopened, Slickety's would have more vegan options. They are known for their interesting bennies. How hard would it be to throw a slab of tofu on one and offer a vegan benny? Apparently, impossible, as nobody in town really seems to do that.

There are some great things about Slickety's, though. Morning booze is one of them. Waitstaff is another. Their kitchen is bigger and everyone seems less grumpy than they did at the tiny Main and Broadway location. Also, there ARE more vegan options on the menu, though they're not breakfasts - there's a chili, a sandwich, and a salad or two that are veganable.

Atmosphere: I am commenting on the new location since I never had a chance to check out the old establishment when it was closer to Main @ 8th. The new location is at Main @ 19th which is awesome 'cause while you're waiting for a table, I can check out my favorite record store. The place is very small, mostly two seaters and bar stools. I was with a large group of 9, therefore, it was a prepared and expected wait of 45 minutes. We were put in the back which was more quieter and more desirable for conversation.

Service: Our waitress was awesome. She was ubber friendly, served up properly, informed us of proper wait time and even gave us free coffee 'cause of the wait. She genuinely seemed as though she liked her job which is a rarity in my experience with waitresses (my personal experience). I really liked her genuine attitude.  She was cute, not an Earl's girl, however, will take a genuine over an Earl's girl any day.

Food: The breakfast was good, I've never had an over the moon stellar breakfast before, however, for a Saturday Bruch there were a lot of options accompanied by cute name titles for the meal. The one downfall is that they should've had an eggs and waffle or pancake combo. I am one of those peeps that likes a healthy balance of savory and sweet on my plate. Thankfully someone at the table felt the same, therefore, one of us ordered an egg dish and the other a French toast dish and we split the dish. I was lucky that this worked out, however, I can see how singletons and couples may have issue satisfying this culinary dilemma.

Price: Reasonable portions at a reasonable breakfast price. No complaints here other than trying to charge extra $3 for sugar/cinnamon butter sauce. I know that it takes time to make the sauce, however, $3 is a bit much, especially since they only seemed have put less than 2 oz on the stack of French toasts to begin with.

The new re-opened Slickety Jims!! We came here for a UYE and the whole group had a great time!

The hostess was a nice girl. She was attractive and very friendly. I enjoy that a lot about people. She had this charisma that I wanted more from her. The waitress was very knowledgeable about her work menu. She answered all the questions with a direct answer. She remembered all our orders even though we had a size of 10. The other thing I had to give props for was fitting a size of 10 in that place, altogether in an area.

The food itself was not that bad. I was very satisfied with my brunch meal. I added a lot of Siracha which really made my burrito extremely spicy (YUM).  The only negativity was my friend had to wait for his waffles for a long time. When it got to our table it was already cold. Disappointed.

Anyways, we had a great time at the establishment! I hope to go there again with my smaller group of friends so we don't have to wait for such a long time, and have the same amount of awesome fun!

    Dear Slickity Jim's,

When I was working that night on Cambie street and I started to smell smoke, I never dreamed that it was my beloved going up in flames.

Since you left us, I've had nowhere else to go for expensive-but-moaning-to-my-food delicious and I'd-never-thought-of-that original entrees. Where else can I go if I want to see a Farrah Fawcett head nailed to a wall right next to an antique typewriter and one of those colour-by-number velour paintings of a Elvis!?

Now I must find somewhere else to wait for ten minutes for a table, excitedly discussing what I would order with my friends. Now I will wander funky Main street, made less funky with your loss.

What will you do in the future? Why are you not rebuilding, cheered on by your enthusiastic and faithful following? Where have your friendly and speedy waitresses gone? Where else can I relieve myself in a bull-fighting themed loo?

I miss you, my darling go-to breakfast joint...

Cutesy and quaint, once you get inside this place it feels like you're in a friend's living room, and you're paying them to cook and serve you a character-driven gourmet breakfast.

The room looks kind of like a hobbit tea shop, with tiny tables and a clock with hands that turn counter-clockwise, but it all seems natural somehow, with distinct personality that's genuinely classy and charismatic. Make no mistake, it is a restaurant mainly influenced by hippies and hipsters, but it successfully pulls it off.

Aside from the esoteric fairy posters, campy 50's antiques and evidently "homemade" artwork, it's the menu that gives the place its real credibility. One of those "things taste better if they have clever names" establishments, the meals are fancy, if a little ornamental, and their titles are witty, if a little contrived. I recommend "The Madame in Bed", a French baguette filled with prosciutto and gorgonzola cheese, "The Mean Tean Queen", which is sourdough French toast covered in chocolate, and "The Ham and Asiago", which they described as: A sandwich walks into a bar and orders a drink, bartender says "Sorry we don't serve sandwiches in here."

Any place that serves cornbread rates highly in my books! Plus Slickety Jims has a knack for putting the world's tastiest ingredients together: cheese, avocado, tomato, more cheese, potatoes, yet more cheese.

Go here if you love eating breakfast in the afternoon. You know who you are: You're also the people who go to bed in the morning.

Expect a wait on weekends. Go here on a weekday morning and you'll feel great that you're getting in the door so easily. If you work M-F, call in sick or something.

Last of all, bring some fun company. Even if there is a wait (for a table, coffee, or food), you'll do lots of the chattin' part. So when you then get to the chewin' part you won't have to talk with your mouth full.

The food was great, but the service took away from the overall experience. We were seated in a disastrous circus-like room of yellow and red stripes.... not so ideal for a weekend morning. The food took at least 45 minutes to come, and the server only came once in between the wait to refill our drinks. The ingredients were fresh, and the portions were just right.

You know what is great about Slickity Jim's? The atmosphere.

Seriously, it has a hipstery take on what Sophies on West 4th is to kitsch
    .
I love it for the people watching opportunities. I love the crowd which reminds me. Be prepared to wait if you are coming past say 10:30am. You'll know there is a line when you see people waiting outside this place and they ain't got their bus passes out to catch the Number 3 Main street bus.

I've had better breakfasts but it's pretty good.  The hashbrowns were a little on the mush side but the everything else was good.  I went for a veggie sausage this time round. You know what? As terrified as I was to try this non-meat alternative, it was really tasty.  I would order it again.  It wasn't greasy like a regular old pork stick.

If you haven't gone, you must.  It's one of those main street must breakfast places.

This place is pretty good, if you can get in!
There is always a really long line for breakfast, so even though I lived really close i've only been once. The decor is cool, antique and funky and the service is fast (but not the friendliest). I loved their cornbread but I seem to have forgotten the meal I had, which probably isn't a good sign.
I do remember the menu looking quite interesting which is always a plus so check it out if you have the time to wait.

Went to Slickety Jim's yesterday for lunch/brunch -- it was a non-holiday Monday at 1pm and it was packed. Didn't have to wait for a table but every table was pretty much full the whole time we were there.   I thought the service was great but they did seem a little harried, perhaps slightly understaffed with 2 servers for the number of tables.

The menu is super-creative and fun. There are tons of choices for vegetarians. And I love that they only use free run eggs and chicken. That shows a real commitment as that isn't cheap. Oh and they had a sign up that they compost now too, reducing their waste by 75%!

I've always found the food yummy and this was no exception. Soup of the day was Potato Leek and it should've been called Leek Potato since it was really flavourful, much more focused on the Leeks than the usual. My sandwich was great too -- the bacon was perfect and the free run chicken breast was juicy and super-flavourful.

I definitely recommend this place -- unless you're in a hurry. They always seem busy and your food takes a little while and you might need to wait to get in.

I tried slickity jim's a few years ago at their previous location. Incredibly excited to try out what Vancouver has been talking about for so long! I decided to try the gorgonzola egg's benedict. Both my sister and I ordered it and it was terrible. The sauce was barely edible, and we were trying to salvage the rest of our plate of hasbrowns. When we got our servers attention we were incredibly appologitic about how we disliked our meals so greatly, but possibly is there anything that we can do? Well we might have just told her we hit her cat with our car. She immediately said no thats what you ordered. We understood that but wanted reach a middle ground. In the end she refused to do anything for us (even just giving us plain hashbrowns), we asked for the manager and snapped at us that she was the manager. We did not eat it except for the first bite, asked for the bill and had to pay in full. By far the most distasteful service ever. I will never be back.

The decor will appeal to the unpretentious.
The menu will appeal to those with a sense of humor.
The pace will appeal to those without a great deal to do today.

Best eggs Benedict the world over:  Prosciutto,  gorgonzola & hollandaise sauce made from scratch.

    Slickity Jim's = Breakfast Heaven.

    Oh Slickety Jim's! -a staple.

A close inspection will reveal that their food isn't as highly rated as some of the other breakfast joints we've reviewed (for instance S. Jim's potatoes aren't consistent (consistently good or consistently consistent).

    But it doesn't even matter!

So many little touches make Slickety Jim's a breakfast joint to return to again and again.

    The List:
They serve alcohol (even in the morning)!
The serving staff is wicked good!
A varied and extensive menu (like 16 bennys!) with frequent new specials!
    The coffee is delicious!
HOT SAUCE. Hot sauce. Hot sauce on the table. And not just any hot sauce in some crummy bottle all watered down and shit. No. Slickety Jim's serves the almighty SPICY COCK in a shiny-fresh-straight-off-the-shelf bottle covered with all that writing you can't decipher lauded over by that cock of a cock. I cannot say enough how important this is.
Cream on the table in a jug not little creamer packs you get at the gas station. And if that doesn't suit you ask the serving staff and they'll deliver a good ol' metal pot of soymilk (and not the kind that won't mix in either).
    Veggie sausage.
    Tasty meats.
    Free range eggs.
    Sourdough toast.
    Great location.
    Scattered vibrated decor.

Really the only downsides to Slickety Jim's are "meh" potatoes, an unamazing muffin base on the bennys, and the wait times in busy hours (but if you're starving and in the area and can't wait you can just go next door to Barney's where the food is better but that won't make you like it more (at least you won't be hungry).

Slickety's has long been an institution in Mount Pleasant, and the city's egg-eaters mourned it's loss to flame last year. But, joy of joys, they're back!
In a new location a few blocks south, Slickety's has been open for about a month.
When I first came to Vancouver I was a student, with all of the financial accoutrements that entails; i.e. I was really fucking broke.
As such, I didn't have the opportunity to eat at the old Slickety Jim's, or anywhere other than the food bank, for that matter.
But, times have changed, and I am no longer broke, just poor, so I will not miss out on Slickety's this time 'round (the in-laws also footed the bill).

I ordered the Breakfast of Broken Dreams - a delightful benny variant comprising the usual poached eggs on English muffins, but served with fresh spinach, caramelized onions, and an absolutely delicious gorgonzola sauce.
Unlike other egg joints I've reviewed - Paul's Place and Ouisi - there is little bad to be said about this place. Both of the aforementioned joints didn't even bother to ask how I would lie my eggs, and delivered them brutally overcooked. Our server not only asked how I wanted my eggs poached, but they arrived perfectly soft poached!
    Woot!
My partner ordered the Huevos and it looked delicious; the server neglected to inform her that the plate was smoking hot, but no injuries were sustained. I sampled the chili, and it was nice - nothing out of the ordinary, but good.
The service was prompt, and the servers actually knew the menu!
The ingredients were fresh and prepared nicely, save for the randomly tossed mint sprig garnish buried under my English muffins
I am not accustomed to these trivial but necessary niceties at most of Vancouver's brunch joints.
Hell, at Naam not only do they serve absolutely tasteless gruel, assuring you that it's fresh made chili, or curry, or whatever, but the servers actually seem put out by your being in their restaurant, and they ignore you accordingly. Also, any menu inquiries undoubtedly receive the rote "I'll have to ask the kitchen" reply.

The only beef I have with Slickety's is with my side of spuds and my cup o' mud. The taters were simply par-boiled and finished on the griddle top without much in the way of seasoning - perfectly acceptable if they are at least cooked to crispy; mine were soggy and boring. The coffee was pretty standard fare for reasonably-priced brunch joints, i.e. barely palatable - not weak, at least, but not good quality coffee.
    Everything else was

Fuck The Naam. That place sucks.
    Go to Slickety's.
