Nothing left to say that hasn't been said already.
Walked in. Met Karen. Told her what we wanted and what we wanted to spend. She showed us the mattress that worked for us and we were done. Mentioned Yelp and got the free delivery and no tax.
Free delivery on a Sunday and no pressure.
If only everything could be this easy and pleasant. -
Review from Elise K.
After months of shopping around an sleeping on an air mattress, the jeering of my friends coaxed me to wander in to Sleep City. I had been mattress shopping over and over and knew all the sales lines, but they weren't used here. The owner was working in his own shop and simply asked me a few questions about my comfort desires. He then recommend a few and let me lay on them without creepily looming over me. Despite me walking in nearly at close, he stayed open for me and answered each and every of my hair rained questions.
I finally came to a decision and took the plunge! I got about a 50% discount off sticker price for a made to order mattress. He also paid the tax for me and provided free delivery, a frame and setup. Delivery to meet my schedule was available (weekend)!
I had a great experience here. Should I ever need a new mattress, I'll be coming back! -

My girlfriend and I came in yesterday to buy a new king-sized mattress. I knew this was already going to be a substantial investment so I was dreading the whole process, but everything about this store was great. We worked with Karen who was extremely helpful without being pushy at any point.
I told her what we wanted comfort and support-wise, quoted what I wanted to spend and we got right to it. She showed us a few beds in that price range and the two of us couldn't really decide between two of them. While we were thinking about it I asked to try all of their more expensive ones, and one in the class above where we were looking felt perfect to both of us.
The list price was $500 more than I actually wanted to spend, so initially I wrote it off and was ready to go for one of the ones that either I didn't really like or my girlfriend didn't. However, Karen was able to knock $200 off the list price, cover the tax, give us free delivery/old mattress takeaway and a ten year full (NOT prorated as I was expecting) warranty. Furthermore, she was able to fully explain WHY this bed was better than what we were looking at, had examples of the coils inside, etc. Pretty much if I had bought a bed at the price I initially wanted anywhere else and had to pay tax and shipping I would be where I was when I bought this one. Extremely satisfied with the experience all around.
I've been rambling here, but the point is go to Sleep City if you need a mattress. Don't bother with anywhere else. -

We purchased a bed from Charlie a little over a year ago. The service was fantastic! Charlie is friendly, knowledgeable and most importantly, not a pushy salesman. He listened to what we were looking for and in a short time my husband and I found a comfortable and inexpensive bed. It was delivered just a couple of days later despite the horrible weather. I would highly recommend Sleep City!

If I was on a Miss America pagent, I wouldn't wish for world peace - I would wish that all businesses that provide essential goods ran like this (take note ATT!).
At 1:47 I was standing around at the bus stop on the hottest day of the year, lamenting to my friend that I wasn't sure I would make it over for our coffee date at 2:30 because I had to buy a bed.
2:00 the bus finally comes.
10 minutes later I'm at sleep city.
2:30 I'm sitting at Argo Tea with my friend, having bought a bed and taken a 10 minute cab ride to meet my friend.
I got non-pushy friendly service and bought a bed in 10 minutes.
They tell me the bed will be there between 3:30-5:30.
I take my time because I have low expectations of businesses keeping their word.
3:22 - in a cab home, I receive a phone call that the bed is ready to be delivered.
Four flights of narrow stairs and a few minutes later my bed is assembled by very friendly delivery men.
No one in my family believed this story, but I swear it is true. Go here. I went in there saying I wanted the cheapest thing they had, and they never tried to squeeze anything extra and provided top notch service as if I was buying a 3000 dollar bed. -

I worked with Karen who was extremely knowledgeable and worked with me on finding the right mattress for me & my budget. She was easy to work with and didn't make me feel pressured or obligated like a lot of other places I've been to.
My bed was all delivered, set up & ready to go in my apartment less than 24 hours after my purchase was made.
Great business, great people, great products. I'm very happy with my choice and I highly recommend Sleep City! -

This place is awesome.
I picked a bed within my price range and purchased it within 10 minutes of walking into the store. $410 for a full-size mattress, free delivery and setup - what more could you ask for?
Charlie called me in advance to tell me the movers would be a few hours late for my scheduled delivery time and apologized for the delay. No biggie!! I'm just happy communication was solid between seller and buyer, and more importantly, my bed was extremely affordable.
Fast setup, movers were super-friendly (don't forget to tip them!) and now I am the proud owner of a brand new comfy bed! Thanks, Sleep City! -

These guys are great!
My girlfriend and I worked with Rick and chose a great bed and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Both Rick and Charlie are extremely nice and they really make you feel like they truly appreciate your business and are grateful for it.
If you are looking for a mattress in the Chicagoland area, there is no other place that you should go besides Sleep City. You will leave there so happy and confident that you could not have had a better experience anywhere else. -
Review from Gina S.
This place obviously doesn't need anymore 5 star reviews but I need to do my part. Short and sweet. Friendly and genuine service resulting in me sleeping on the most comfortable mattress I've ever owned, for a decent price, with delivery. It was over a year ago that I got the mattress and still couldn't be happier. Now if only I can get the Incredible Hulk that lives above me to stop moving furniture around at 3am...

Everything wonderful that's been said about Charlie & Sleep City is true. Charlie helped find the perfect bed for me and in 20 minutes I had a great deal on a new bed and delivery set up for the next day.
The delivery guys were also great, called before they left to let me know when they would arrive and had my bed set up in less than 15 minutes. If I could buy 10 mattresses from Charlie I would and would recommend his store without reservation. -

Charlie is a pretty awesome dude, all the good things they said about the owner is true. Also, mention you found them on Yelp to get the free shipping / no tax.
Would've granted 5 stars, but the bed frame we also bought from him, turned out to be on back-order. Though this might not be on Sleep City, I would've expected them to have more visibility to supply issues (apparently they only get visibility to stock the week of??) -

This is as good as it gets for sure.
I'm an indecisive, picky gal.
First bed we got ,we liked a lot but thought we might be happier with one a little softer. They didn't carry the one we wanted, so Charlie talked to his buyer and went out of his way to special order it.
Got the new softer bed, gave this one 30 days, and decided we liked the support of the first bed better.
I called Charlie, embarrassed and feeling like a jerk, and asked for our original bed back. He was friendly as always. Didn't make me feel like a brat at all.
Got the original bed back AN HOUR after I made the call.
Credit goes to the delivery guys, as well. I've now met a few of them over my 3 mattress deliveries, and they're always friendly, courteous, quick and careful. That said, consider what you're saving for mentioning Yelp, and throw in a little tip.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I went to "Yelp" to find a mattress (since this is one purchase I make infrequently) and the rave reviews led me to Sleep City - Great place! Charlie knew exactly what we needed immediately.
I was buying a mattress for my 10 year old daughter for a new full-size bed. He took me to a moderately, but very comfortable mattress that was reasonably priced and had a 10 year warrenty.
It is a great product and my daughter is still very pleased - I am planning to purchase my boxspring/mattress there soon. -

As if this place needs another review, but what the heck! This place was great. We got a top of the line mattress at a fantastic deal. The prices include the box spring and the frame~no other mattress store we researched included these items. We got a GORGEOUS king size that we're hoping will keep us sleeping sound for years to come! Charlie was cool with us darn near napping on the bed in the store before we bought it.
We also got our delivery for free. The delivery guys were early and called before arriving. They set it up and took all the plastic wrapping with them. They were quick and efficient.
All around a great experience. And now, I go to nap! -

A few months later and the mattress is going strong. We did our first rotation, not that it felt like it needed any adjustments, but we plan to treat this thing with love and respect. So why pay $1000 for a bed? I don't get it.

Charlie is the owner and he is awesome. He is almost always there and he can work with you on price because, well, he's the owner. He is very nice and knowledgable and I felt really comfortable talking to him about his products.
Every mattress store has their own name for the same mattress which makes price comparrison nearly impossible. Mattress shopping is pretty much flying blind and requires you to find a trust worth dealer and Charlie is that guy.
I'm relocating to Atlanta in a few weeks and I just bought another mattress to bring down to ATL with me. Why did I buy it in Chicago at 10.25% sales tax instead of Atlanta at 6%? Because Charlie is a trust worthy and great guy to to do business with and I know I got a good deal. -

Just call me Charlie's Angel-
I have rent, loans, groceries, kitty litter and all manner of financial woes to tend to so the thought of putting down several hundred dollars on a real mattress (not a futon, not a twin donated from the Sisters of Mercy, and not an Ikea pad) blew my mind.
I found an amazing Simmons Mattress Set on the clearance floor of a furniture retailer. I was stoked to find a gem for such a low price even though it wasn't wrapped in plastic... and the delivery cost was $80... and the tax was insanely high. Regardless, I put it all on my credit card and wracked my brain to accomodate the delivery men's schedule (they only delivered to my area on Wednesdays between 10am-1pm. Finally, I found a family member who was willing to house-sit while I worked and went on my happy way knowing that I would get my mattress within ten days.
Alas, I received a call three days later saying that someone else had purchased the mattress before me and even if they decided not to get it, there were three people in front of me... in line for the mattress!!!!! They proceded to tell me that they'd give me a $50 discount and "I would have to come back to the store (a 4 hour round-trip commute) to pick out another mattress. No free delivery, just a tax break.
After going back and forth with the sales rep who called his manager to play the whole "let me see what I can do for you" game, I told them that I wanted a full refund since all the other mattresses were uncomfortable anyway.
Finally, I turned to Yelp and found Sleep City. Charlie was everything that everyone else says he is - kind, efficient, helpful, and a good salesman. Charlie provided the Simmons Dillon (perfect combo of cushy and firm) with delivery (according to my schedule), bedframe, set-up, and no tax.
It's two weeks later and I'm sleeping better than ever.
Love ya, Charlie -

Charlie is just terrific! He showed me nice mattresses that were extremely reasonably priced up to a mid-price range. I had to wander over to the "over the top" section. And fell in love with the top of the line (of course!). Charlie never once tried to talk me into it, he kept talking about the features and benefits of the mid-priced mattresses. I bought the top of the line - heck, you spend a third of your life on the darn thing. The guys who delivered were so nice and helpful. I've been sleeping on the mattress for a couple of months and it's all and more than I'd hoped. Charlie cut me a fair deal and was more like a friend shopping with me than someone trying to sell me something.

Every girl needs her beauty rest! Sleep City makes this possible- with incredible service, speedy delivery, unbeatable prices, friendly staff, and quality merchandise!
Need I say more? Probably not- but I am going to take just another second! They stock Simmons Beautyrest beds- with a variety of prices and options that can fit any budget and sleep style. I have to admit- I was a bit torn. I wanted the Westin Hotel bed- and they had it and would have delivered it. I also guessed that it might be a bit too soft. I ended up going with another- and am thrilled! Karen helped me, she was knowledgeable, friendly and quick!
Mention yelp and get 10% off your total price (hello- NO SALES TAX!!).
Last thing- the delivery? A dream. No waiting around, wondering when they were going to show! They were EARLY! Robert came in, set up, took care of everything!
I have been blabbing about this place to everyone in my building. Seriously, don't question it, just go here. Nothing shady about it!
Sweet dreams my friends, sweet dreams! -

Wow, I can't say nicer things about the guys who own this place. They're down to earth, very friendly, and have a no pressure approach to sales!
I went in because, well, I Yelped mattresses. This seemed like the place to come. I was not disappointed. I asked a bunch of questions, got a lot of answers, and walked away very happy! It's my first "real" mattress meaning it didn't come from Sam's club (I'm not knocking it, but c'mon..100 bucks for a mattress!?). I'm not sure if I got a "deal" but I can tell you with delivery, no tax, a mattress and a box spring it cost 750 for the same mattress they use at the W hotel.
Finally, I will get a good night sleep! (thanks Rick! -

Okay so first of all, what a great name. I mean, if there was a city called "Sleep City," I would move there and live a long and happy life, awake for like three or four hours a day.
So I have been putting off buying a new mattress for quite a while. if you Google "how to choose a mattress," it sounds like such a headache. They tell you that you have to try out all these different mattresses, and lie down on them for no less than fifteen minutes in all these different positions, and ask all these questions like about coil count and what have you. They make it sound like if you don't do it just right, you end up stuck with a mattress that's like sleeping on a pile of bricks, and it wrecks your life. I mean, my old mattress, it's not like the coils have all broken through and are stabbing me in the kidneys, so why go through all that?
But then you read stuff like "a ten-year-old mattress is full of skin cells and dead bugs!" and you want it out of your home.
So why was Sleep City so great? I walk in, look around a bit. Right on cue, the guy minding the place chimes in, asking if I need help. Not in an "I'm trained to say this exact phrase at this exact moment to nail the sale" kind of way, but in an actual nice guy kind of way.
So I go for it, tell him I'm looking for a full-size and I sleep on my side and my back is goofed up, yada yada yada whatever. He points me to a few mattresses, I lie down on them. I like one best, it's exactly what I hoped to spend, he says "That's our biggest seller!", I buy it, he arranges delivery for a weekend morning, done. I'm out of there in twenty minutes. And so far the mattress is heaven.
The gent who helped me, Charles, is the owner I believe. He mentioned that a few years ago, people started coming in from faraway places like Elgin and Evanston, and that was how he found out about Yelp. Well, I'm glad those early reviews have worked out so well for him because he's a good guy and it's a good store and you should go there and buy a mattress. -

After having a crap-tastic experience with Bedding Experts across the street - my husband and I came here.
We were helped right away and shown a number of options even though I told them our price range was only $500 (knowing we could go up to $700).
Without any of the typical sales crap (having to call their manager, seeing what they could do, etc, etc) the sales woman helped us find a great bed for $540 including a box spring, free delivery, metal frame and taking our old mattress and bed out (Bedding experts only promised half of that, and the bed was not nearly as comfortable).
She gave us time to make some phone calls and deliberate without hovering over us like a hungry vulture.
We came in on a Sunday and we offered delivery as early as Thursday (evenings if we wanted) but we asked for Saturday 11-1 are scheduled for the first time we picked. ***I will update this review once we get our delivery - because nothing is set in stone until I'm curled up in my comfy new bed.
Like I said, the sales women was REALLY helpful, but I wish they had a website. I didn't know about the location because I couldn't find it online. She said "they are old school" and their only online presence is Yelp - but I could have easily overlooked this place if I was not heading in that direction after my bad experience at Bedding Experts. But I would go back and recommend the place to others. She also said they have a furniture catalog and sell other things as well, but beds are their specialty. -

This place is great! I had a very easy time shopping for a much needed mattress set. The owner was very helpful (not at all pushy), and the price was right! Same day delivery, too!! The delivery was right on time, so I didn't have to spend most of my day waiting for the bed to arrive.
In a world of pushy sales people, Sleep City was quite refreshing! I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a quality mattress at a reasonable price. -

After sleeping on a rock for two years, we finally decided to take the plunge and buy a new bed. Lucky us: Sleep City was just around the corner!
What a great experience--just like the other yelpers said, this place doesn't do the hard sell, doesn't hover, and lets you try out all the different places at your leisure. He was really great about offering cheaper alternatives that felt similar to one that was out of our price range (instead of telling us that X bed was a billion dollars because it was THE BEST and we should get that one, etc.). We also called around to check up on their prices (we tried Bedding Experts, I believe), and Sleep City was definitely less sales-y and much much MUCH more affordable.
Go here, ask for Charlie, and go home with a comfy bed! -

I must agree with what others said in their reviews. This place was pretty great. As a new Chicago transplant, I was in desperate need of a bed. I'd been researching stores and mattress types because buying one of these things has become an investment more than a purchase. I was saving up $$ because other mattresses I looked at which were pretty high in price (Macy's, Back to Bed, etc.).
When I walked in, because of recommendations on Yelp, Charlie approached me in a very friendly, laid-back sort of way. Other mattress shop guys tended to jump right on me, but my experience here was great. I informed him exactly what I was looking for and he provided me with a variety of options and the prices were great. I actually spent about $200 less than what I expected at the other stores for a great mattress. I ended up with a mid-grade Sealy eurotop for less than $700. Pretty good, if you ask me.
The store does stock most mattresses in house, allowing for quick, FREE delivery 7 days a week. My mattress, however, was not in stock. But good things come to those who wait...Charlie ordered it and delivery was in 6 days.
Sleep City also offer a 30-day guarantee. They just request you sleep on the bed for at least 10 days, to allow your body time to adjust.
If you go and Charlie's there, make sure to tell him you heard about them through Yelp - you'll get a discount. Oh, and when you buy a mattress, they'll give you a break on furniture/bed prices as well. -

Karen made this experience as painless as possible.
I move to a new apartment this week and this was my first time buying a "big girl bed." Goodbye futons! I walked in and informed Karen that I was looking for something that wasn't hard as a brick but wasn't soft it would swallow me whole. The first mattress she picked out for me ended up being the one. It's exactly what I wanted. And she wasn't pushy at all. Always a plus. -

I'm the kind of shopper who likes being left to my own devices. Nothing irritates me more, and makes me want to flee than a group of overly pushy salespeople. I cannot shop at Macy's because it's a given that within minutes of entering, a veritable flock of vulture-like sales women will descend and guilt trip me into unwanted purchases.
That being said, I wasn't looking forward to furniture shopping. After five weeks on an inflatable mattress, I was ready for the commitment of an actual box spring and pillow top. Based on all of the outstanding reviews, I decided to check this place out.
The owner was the salesperson, which I really love.
They have a variety of mattresses, many were quite affordable. The owner learned our names and addressed us by name quickly.
We decided on a mattress suited to our budget and had it paid for within about ten minutes, no pushy sales pitches, no pressure.
When we mentioned that we heard of them through positive online reviews, the owner didn't charge us for delivery and set up.
Very friendly, very affordable, very quick. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a new bed. -

I really can't say enough about the exceptional service we received at Sleep City. From the minute we walked in I knew we'd be making a purchase. I was shopping for a king size with a very particular sleeper. Charlie couldn't have been more knowledgeable or helpful. Based on our explanations of how we sleep he quickly eliminated all the mattresses that wouldn't fit our criteria. We came in shopping for a mattress but fell in love with a bed and night stand in the process. We stopped in on a Sunday and by Thursday night were sleeping on our new mattress. Usually I'll shop around at stores then check prices online and try to save a buck. With the no haggle deal we got with Charlie I didn't hesitate to pull the trigger. We'll definitely be back the next time we need a mattress!
NOTE: DEFINITELY take advantage of the in-home setup. For our king size is was $40 and WELL worth not having to assemble the bed ourselves. -

This is the best place to buy a new bed! Charlie is a great business owner and I was in and out of the store in 10 minutes! I heard great things about Sleep City on Yelp so went to the store on a Thursday. It was empty and walked in and talked to Charlie about what I wanted and my price range. Charlie is extremely kind and not pushy at all. He recommended 2 queen beds for me and the total cost was around $475.
It's true that if you mention Yelp, he does not charge tax or delivery-- how awesome is that!!!
I asked for the bed to be delivered downtown the next day and was able to do that. It was supposed to be delivered between 11-1pm and the movers came at 10:45! It turned out that the wrong bed was delivered (it was better quality) but I talked to Charlie and he let me keep the better bed with NO CHARGE! Wow how rare is that?!?!?!
Sleep City is awesome! Thank you, Charlie. -

I had been researching mattresses and places to buy for months. I had an appt. in a neighborhood I don't live in and passed by Sleep City to kill some time thinking...I'm not going to find a mattress today. Boy, I was wrong. The owner was fantastic and let me browse and lay down on many mattresses. He was not pushy at all. Prices were great. I picked one that I liked and scheduled delivery for the next day. Delivery guys called to say they were on the way which was appreciated. They were friendly and helpful.

Thanks yelpers. Once again reviews hold true to the core and Sleep City just did not disappoint.
I came in at 1pm on Saturday, Charlie was quick and courteous and immediately asked me what I liked in a bed. Then he had me try out several selections he had on site, and I had an extremely difficult time choosing. All of them were great, and were at a great price.
He told me I could take a nap, since I kept jumping back and forth between beds. He left me alone, let me take my time, checked up on me if I had any questions. I gave the beds one more round, and I made my decision.
I purchased the bed at 1:30pm and he asked me if I heard of Sleep City from Yelp. I didn't even have to mention it, and he cut tax and delivery off!
My bed was delivered at 3:00 pm promptly the same day. Just an hour and a half after my purchase!
How easy is this. Thanks Charlie! -

This is one of those nicely-run family businesses. I really like their beds, and they have those in their store, hence the name. But what they don't advertise very well is the fact that they also order other furniture through catalogs if you want. I ordered some stuff through them, and was very happy with their service. The quality was not so good on some of the stuff I ordered, but that's my fault for not doing my research.
The people who work there are the ones who run the business, and you'll be their friend in no time if you come in a few times while figuring out what you want. 2 years later, they still remember me.
One of the things I ordered through them was a living room set. Last New Year's Eve I had a few people over, and for people sat on it at the same time, which space-wise fit them. But, I guess it's a testament to the quality (or lack thereof) of the couch that I ordered from a catalog. I went in to talk to the people at Sleep City, and I said that I had bought the couch over a year before it broke, and it's probably not under warranty anymore, but I just wanted to tell them that I was not happy that it broke when four people sat on it, which is not outrageous for a couch that fits four people. They were really nice, and the same day they came to assess the damage, then a few days later came and repaired the couch and replaced the damaged part, FOR FREE! Talk about great customer service! -

As everyone has said, Charles was fantastic. Been sleeping on the bed for a week. Mentioned my friend got his bed from here last year, and got free delivery and no tax! The delivery guys were at my place 5 minutes after I got home (I live up the street in Lakeview). Built and installed for 10 bucks in about 5 minutes. Shelby was one of the guys? Very professional, very nice dudes, left before I could even get em a tip. So here's this instead. If you need a bed, go to Sleep City. End of story.

I just had my awesome new Simmons Beautyrest with the individual pocketed coils delivered and I couldn't be happier.
Karen was my salesperson, although I think of her as more a tour guide since I never felt I was being "sold" anything. She asked me if I was a side or back sleeper, had back problems, if I prefer firm or plush, and how much I wanted to spend. She showed me 3 models and told me to lay on them for as long as I wanted to. She never tried to up sell and was able to answer all my questions. She knocked off the tax because I told her I found them on Yelp.
Two hours later Karen called me to say they were double wrapping the bed because it was raining, and it was being loaded on the truck. Ten minutes after the call, the delivery guys (Karl and Brian?) were at my house. They took away my old bed, set up the new one, and were very professional, patiently allowing me to vacuum the spot where the bed was.
Don't waste your time anywhere else. Sleep City rocks with their great deals and excellent service.
