Review from Amy L.
Evanston, IL
My husband and I were looking for a new mattress, ours was about 15yrs old. We had been talking about it for years and finally decided to pull the trigger. We first went to a large department store and found a very nice mattress in our price range but after the extras (Frame, taking of old mattress and the long wait) we were not convinced. We had been directed to Sleep City a few year ago so we decided to head down. Being from Evanston we were a little concerned about the delivery but decided to see what we could find. I was a little skeptical at first, did not seem like there was a big selection but we looked around and found the upstairs filled with more mattresses. There was an identical mattress on the first floor to the one we found at the department store. We spent about 2 hours in there. Karen was so helpful and very patient. When we decided we would buy she included the frame, old mattress disposal, mattress cover, delivery and tax. it was AWESOME, she was AWESOME! Sleep City was AWESOME and we have been sleeping AWESOME.
We had a new bed by 3pm the next day and hove not looked back since. I would recommend Sleep City to anyone looking for a fair, reasonable and honest place to do business. -

It is easy to become overwhelmed if you start researching mattresses online. You will read all sorts of things about memory foam, latex, air beds, how these things are manufactured, durability, wear and tear, buying guides, off gasses, dust mites...enough to make your head spin. After weeks of reading countless websites and reviews I finally came to the conclusion that mattress buying is kind of a crap shoot. The industry purposefully makes it difficult to make apples to apples comparisons of mattresses from store to store. Reviews in general, for most mattresses, suck. People complain A LOT about their mattresses. There are extremes of course, which I mostly found in the name brand memory foam world. Love it or hate it, it is going to cost you a lot of cash.
Finally, I came back to my first mattress buying experience. A friend of mine worked in a mattress shop, and told me to lay on each bed for a few minutes until I found one that felt pretty comfy. And I did. And it was. I paid $200 for that mattress in 2004 (thanks friend!) and it was comfortable until the day I moved it into my guest bedroom 3 years later. So as I was fretting about spending a ton of money on something so hard to really research, I put my feet back on the ground and decided to go with comfort first, and everything else by the biggest consumer driver - price.
At first my husband and I checked out a fancy shop where the cheapest mattresses were no less than $2500. That bed better have a twist off knob that takes me to magical places for that kind of money. And lest people think otherwise, we had budgeted a large sum for the right bed. But I just couldn't get that thought out of my head - I paid $200 (let's say $400 for the sake of friend-discount-argument) 8 years ago and got an amazingly comfortable mattress. How is spending $2000+ going to improve upon that?
And so, enter yelp and Sleep City. My husband and I walked in, and were greeted by a pleasant guy behind the counter. He suggests we try a few different mattresses. They pretty much only sell Simmons here. If you want to try other brands, maybe try and find a bigger warehouse style store. After a bunch of time laying around, we pick a mattress. We order said mattress. Delivery is scheduled, and free. We mention yelp and get the Queen for the price of the Full, including the box spring and mattress cover. I'm sure we could have negotiated further, but I was tired after a long day at work and quite frankly didn't have it in me. I am still super satisfied in that 1) our salesman was easy going and not pushy 2) we spent a ton of time on each mattress, again, no pressure, no "I sleep on that and it's my favorite" and 3) we saved money on the sticker price and didn't have to pay extra for delivery. I'm sure Sleep City incorporates the cost of delivery into their margins. I don't care. You might, I don't.
I will try and update this review with possibly another star after we receive said mattress and all is well.
A couple more things to add this ridiculously lengthy review. Even though the amount of information on the interwebs regarding mattress selection could make you dizzy, I did learn a little bit along the way:
- Don't buy a pillow top mattress. They get the MOST complaints due to body impressions. If you want one, buy it separately. When it wears/flattens out, you can replace it.
- Do not think that your 10 year warranty means your mattress will last 10 years. Assume that the warranty = half the life of the actual mattress. If it lasts longer, great. If not, you won't be too upset. It can cost a lot of money to replace a defective mattress. So unless it gets jacked up within the first few years, just plan to replace it. Set your mattress budget accordingly.
There may be a few more tips but this review is too long already. I really hope this helps you on your search! -

Im happy to see that most reviews are 5 starts, and anything less usually comes from people that really don't get the point of reviews or are very low budget divas.
I got my first matrest from Sleep City in 2004, and I keep coming back. Rick is awesome! Fair price and good quality.
He will accomodate you, within reason, no fuzz or pressure. Highly recommended. -

We went here after reading the other reviews... We purchased an hour on the meter- only needed 15 minutes! They asked what we wanted, let us try out a couple of beds and found something right in our price range. They kept the 2-yr-old entertained while we worked out the details. Three hours later, two clean-cut guys came to our place and removed our old mattress and set up the new mattress and box spring. Easiest, most pleasant, low-pressure sales experience I've ever had in Chicago. Highly recommended. Note they only carry one brand of mattress, so a little advance research on if you are ok with that is important.

I had a TempurPedic that was overrun with mold and thus needed an immediate, economical replacement mattress to get me through the last few months of my lease (I planned to upgrade to a bigger bed once I moved into a bigger place). I went to Sleep City after reading all the awesome Yelp reviews, and they are spot on! Rick was great; he showed me exactly what I asked for without trying to sell me on something fancier & more expensive. The total process from when I first stepped foot in the store to when I had my new mattress fully set up in my apartment (with the old one taken away for me) was less than 2 hours. Fantastic!!! Go here!!!!!

I went here first, based on friends' recommendation and the yelp reviews.
Rick is a really nice guy and was helpful in my shopping experience, not pushy at all. He was friendly but something about his attitude didn't quite stick well. He asked me how I found out about them, I said through friends and yelp. And actually my friends had bought a mattress from them before. His response was, "yeah sure... that's what they all say", kinda sarcastically.
I walked in with a budget, I was only looking for a mattress without base or boxspring. He showed me one mattress in that range and two other out of my budget. I was actually willing to spend a little more, for something more comfy but the 2nd mattress he showed me was at the right price, but it was softer/plushier. He then showed me another mattress that was extra firm, but that one cost double my initial budget. I had to think about it.
Anyway I shopped around some more, thinking, well Rick's a nice guy, if the other stores show me the same stuff at about the same price, I'll come back to buy the mattress from Sleep City. However, I found another mattress that fits my budget and comfort elsewhere and the salesguy threw in a deal that I could not refuse.
Still, I would recommend coming to Sleep City if you're looking for a mattress. They carry a large selection of higher end mattresses, too. I also believe that Rick would give you the best deal. Their prices on the website is higher than what he quoted in store. -

Rick! Rick! Rick!
I loved buying a mattress from this place. Was pressure placed on me? Yes probably, but Rick never put on the full court press. He had a wide array of mattresses and never pressured me into buying the higher priced one. We actually ended up purchasing the cheapest mattress, I think we got a good price, but will for sure be back when we get a second bedroom and finally purchase our queen sized bed! I don't have much other mattress buying experience, but I would highly recommend Rick and Sleep City if you are in the market for a better sleep. -

This place is amazing. I went in and the lady asked me how I had found the place, so I mentioned Yelp. She then proceeded to have me lie down on a bunch of different mattresses, and then left me to figure out which one I wanted. When I decided, she told me the price for the mattress, the bed spring, and a metal frame. It was super cheap for high quality, and she had it delivered the same day for free! They even came and set up the frame for me. Definitely go here if you are looking for a mattress. There are many choices, and the people are super helpful. Also, mention yelp, you will get a deal.

My wife and I needed to buy a new mattress when we got married because neither of us have a very comfortable bed. We came here by recommendation. There are so many mattresses to choose from. I really enjoyed coming here. We tried out several different mattresses and ended up finding the perfect one! I would definitely come here to look for a mattress. There are many options and I'm sure you will be able to find the perfect one for you.

GO HERE SECOND
Because then you'll be able to compare the great deal Rick is going to give you versus the outrageous prices elsewhere. You'll also be able to compare Rick's fun, low-key sales approach versus the slimy, high-pressure tactics elsewhere. This will save you the return trip.
Rick helped me find exactly the mattress I was looking for at a great price. A few months in and I still love my mattress. The pain I was getting in my lower back has vanished and I couldn't be happier. -

I have never made such a big purchase in such a short amount of time in my life! Sleep City was too good to be true.
I'd had the same mattress and box spring since I moved to Chicago 12 years ago. Yeah, I know. It was time. So I searched Yelp and found nothing but great reviews for this Sleep City location. My man and I made the trek north (from River West) and walked into the store on a busy Saturday morning. It was quiet inside, but in seconds, a nice woman (I hate I can't remember her name) asked us what we were looking for. She was friendly and knowledgeable, but not at all pushy. She got right to the point with her questions and listened as I told her what my man and I wanted--a firm mattress with a soft pillow top surface and a foundation. I don't know much about mattresses, but the woman put my mind at ease very quickly.
She had us try out one of her best sellers--a queen-sized Simmons Beautyrest with pillow top and we were done. We purchased the set on sale with free delivery and old mattress haul away and we were out the door in less than 10 minutes.
Within 1/2 hour later, she called me to ask if I wanted a standard-sized mattress or something less deep. Although that issue was not discussed in the store, I was impressed that she called me back so quickly to inquire.
On the date of delivery, the Sleep City guys called me ahead of time to make sure I was home and arrived well within the 2 hour time window. I didn't have to wonder where they were or when they would come by. More importantly, the actual delivery and haul away took mere minutes and they were gone! These guys were so fast, I almost lost the opportunity to tip them.
Buying large pieces of furniture is never really that fun, but this was a great experience. I never felt pressured or swindled. I have a great bed and sleep very well at night. I highly recommend Sleep City. The customers are treated well and the products and services sold are as advertized. -

Lindsay from Pittsburgh - message me if you see this. =)
Lindsay, like me, found Sleep City on Yelp. I don't know how it has such a stellar set of reviews, and was hoping to be let down in some manner, but it didn't happen plain and simple.
Rick is awesome. He's friendly and helpful. Full of suggestions. He will push you into buying something, but it's more of a gentle coaxing. Highly recommended for anyone needing a mattress. -

This is #1 rated place on Yelp to buy a mattress in the city? Really?
The mattresses are nice, but I don't know that the deal is as good as everyone says it is. It's decent, but not that much different from other places, all negotiations considered. I didn't end up buying a mattress despite thinking this was going to be a no-brainer/one-stop shopping. Will update if I end up buying from Rick.
*Update: I didn't end up buying from Rick, but I've decided Rick is a very fair business man and you will get a fair deal shopping with him. He lost me by offering me a mismatched boxspring with the mattress in order to get it within my budget. -

Sleep City is by far the best mattress store in Chicago. Rick, the owner, was helpful, patient and funny make the mattress buying process easy and enjoyable. He quoted us an amazing price which included everything from the frame to delivery to takeaway. The day of delivery went smoothly. The men delivering the mattress called right at the beginning of the time window and arrived shortly there after. The old mattress was taken out and the new one set up in mere minutes.
Definitely going to be suggesting this place to all our friends. -

Thank you Yelpers!
Another great business found on Yelp.
They were great! I got just the right type of mattress. There was nothing pushy about them. I had time to try out the few suggested types and found what fit my needs. The best part is the price was right!
Delivery went great.
The next person that mentions they need a mattress, I know where I will be sending them.
Will I return, You Bet! The next time I need a mattress, I will be back to Sleep City. -

I never knew buying a mattress could be easier than buying toilet paper. This place is great. Walked in and out in under ten minutes. Purchased a bed and delivered an hour later. Hands down the best service in town.

I have to update - despite a rough delivery, Sleep City deserves 5 stars. About a week ago, I called Rick about a problem I had with my bed, and although my bed was already past the 30 day return policy, Rick still responded to my calls promptly and tried to do what he could to help me. (Lucky for me, my issue turned out to be a non-issue.)

There is a reason that Sleep City has a 5-Star rating.
This weekend was the fourth time in 7 years I have either been here! Two times to buy a mattress, one time to buy a split box-spring, and once to help someone buy a mattress.
As previously stated, Rick is "THE MAN." He will help you find the mattress that matches your needs and budget quickly, as you try out a few of the floor mattresses.
I definitely recommend asking for "The Yelp Discount" or "The I bought here before discont" or the "College Student Discount." Or make up your own discount! You can usually talk a few dollars off the price tag if you are polite and friendly.
Not exactly sure how the mattresses are so amazingly nice and so affordable at the same time. I am pretty sure the mafia is involved, or they are finding them when they are falling off a truck somewhere! Kidding of course, Rick is really a stand up guy!
Free delivery, and the delivery guy brought it exactly on time! I tipped him $10. I think he was happy. Are you supposed to tip a mattress delivery guy? I think so, but open for debate!
Did I mention Rick always has pictures of his family around, and is proud of all of them. It is great.
Also, I am a physical therapist, and all mattresses at Sleep City are PT APPROVED!
Feel free to go somewhere else and pay too much for a mattress and get bad service. But if you know what you are doing, go to SLEEP CITY. I have only been to the Diversey one, and I think that is where Rick always is. So go there. -

This was my mattress shopping experience...
Everyone knows one of the best times of the year to shop around for furniture or mattresses is during the President's Day weekend. Many vendors claim of great "blowout" sales, yada yada yada.
Well my friend and I were both in the market for new beds. Of course, I did my research to see which places had best sales and of course, like any other Yelper I checked the reviews to see what previous customer experiences were. I stumbled on Sleep City while i was browsing neighboring competitors. I told my friend we should really look at this place...
Honestly, we looked at a competitor before going to Sleep City. We were there for over an hour and we were educated on the science behind mattresses, which was all fine and dandy. But the sale price they quoted was way out of our budget. They even offered discounts, etc- still fell short. I'm wondering if the educational mini-seminar they gave us was included in the price?!?! We needed an escape route because the salespeople were kinda pushy. I tugged at my friends jacket and said hey lets go check out that Sleep City place.
We did- thank god! We were in and out in 25 minutes! It was just like how the other reviewers stated. Rick was awesome! We tried a couple beds it was a no-brainer. My friend got a bed and even I got a bed because it was just too good of a deal to pass up! The delivery was punctual, swift, and courteous.
Now only if they sold sofas.... haha. -

Sleep City Chicago is the best. Just had my first night last night on the new King size mattress I got. Wow, it was delivered in 6 days after I ordered it exactly when they told me it would be there. They even took away my old bed.
Great deal, and I will be going back next month to by a Head board and foot board from them.
I will always refer these guys to my friends. -

Rick gave us a great deal and delivered the mattress the same day. He listened to what we wanted and didn't try to push us into anything out of our budget. We did a little bit of shopping around and there was no place like this. I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone.

Bought a mattress and box spring here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Picking out the mattress we wanted was a breeze. The delivery came in the slated window they gave us and they even hauled away our old mattress and box spring. There's probably no easier way to buy a new bed.

My husband and I promised ourselves that when we finally sold our home, we could buy a king size bed. We don't know much about beds or bed shopping but we went to Sleep City based on Yelp reviews.
A mattress purchase can easily be like buying a car, but buying a mattress at Sleep City is nothing like that. Rick is very helpful, not pushy and extremely knowledgeable. Rick listens to your feedback and helps suggest different beds to fit your qualifications that are within your price range. He gave us the right amount of space, giving us time to lay on the beds and discuss what we thought without him standing over us. He was very upfront about price and did not try to push us out of our price range. He also gave us a discount because we mentioned that we found him on Yelp. I felt very comfortable purchasing a mattress from Rick (and six months later, still love the mattress just as much as the day we bought it). -

Set adrift on memory foam bliss.
Okay, so I didn't actually get a memory foam mattress; I got a medium firm eurotop. But i can't think of a clever opener based on that.
Went here around labor day- but wanted to give it a few weeks before reviewing to ensure i was satisfied with the mattress and didn't need to do a return. Chose this place solely based on great yelp reviews and was not disappointed. The owner is super nice and knowledgeable- loved him.
It's kind of weird lying there in the window as people are walking by on the sidewalk outside. But that's neither here nor there.
Delivery next day- two very nice guys. Totally happy with my mattress and my experience. -

I will keep it short since the gist of this review is, "yeah what they said, ditto."
Salespeople are great, informative but not pushy.
Free delivery.
Free pickup of old mattress.
And they give you a discount if you say you picked them out because of Yelp.
A+ would buy again, etc. -

UKThis place is fantastic and Rickis everything you want in a salesperson. Like everyone else who has reviewed this place, I was in and out in 20 minutes and left a very happy customer. Rick knows his business, gave me a good deal and showed such goodwill to me as a customer that I will go back there in future without hesitation. Delivery and setup is free and 30 day trial is standard. Rick is a really top guy, can I give him 10 stars? No hesitation in recommending 100 %.

If my boyfriend and I were in a Simmons Beauty Rest Mattress commercial, he would be the delicate glass of Merlot, and I'd be the graceless bowling ball toppling him, spilling red wine all over the place.
Clearly we needed help. My boyfriend's firm queen mattress - though comfy enough - moved whenever I moved. And I move a lot.
After researching on Yelp, we decided to give Sleep City a try. And we're so happy we did. Rick helped us find a beeeeeutiful new KING sized bed with a pillow top that supports your body as you rest. He knocked $100 off the price for mentioning Yelp, too. The guys who delivered the bed were on time, friendly and helpful. They even took away our old mattress.
I cannot thank Sleep City enough for giving us such a great deal, for being so personable and easy. But mostly, I thank them for saving our relationship.
I don't know how much longer my boyfriend could've gone without sleep. Every morning, I awoke surprised that I was still alive - that I hadn't somehow been 'done in' by justifiable homicide with a smothering pillow.
Now I can thrash about to my heart's content and know that I'm not disturbing my man. And with the king sized bed, my man is practically in a different zip code!! So we can sleep on our own sides, and still cozy up in the middle, too. -

I'm a few months belated reviewing this place, but feel that I need to echo every other review on here--if you are buying a bed in Chicago, there is NO other place you should go to aside from Sleep City. Hands-down, this place rocks.
I had just driven cross-country from Seattle, and the first thing I needed for my apartment was a bed. I had done my background research on beds and was pretty certain what I wanted. Rick was so helpful, and I walked out of there in less than 45 minutes. When he found out I didn't have a bed in my apartment, he offered to deliver it that night! (it was 3pm at the time)
Seriously, I thought there was going to be some type of catch--that the bed was going to fall apart or it would be bed-bug infested. Nope. 3 months later, and I still love it.
It's a great business model they have--moving lots of volume compensate for the low prices. And the low prices rock. -

THIS PLACE SOOOOO ROCKS.
As 2 girls shopping for a mattress, we felt totally 100% comfortable here, laying on various mattresses together and rolling around on them for "effect". We also shopped all over and found nothing like the deals here. I am super picky and tend to take hours to choose the smallest thing. However hte 2 of us were able to walk in, lay on some beds, and select and buy one in only FIFTEEN MINUTES. How cool is that? That basically never happens for me. My girlfriend was very pleased too (she's the fast shopper).
The owner Rick is super cool and gave us a great deal. He took something off for us finding him on Yelp too.
DELIVERY GUYS: This is the only tricky part of shopping here. BE SURE YOU ASK THAT KARL & BRYAN DELIVER YOUR MATTRESS, that is if you care at all about your blood pressure.
Unfortunately the 1st delivery team we got (Victor and another guy) were HORRIBLE - bad attitude, insulting comments, lamps swinging around and hitting the walls, etc. But when I called Rick he compensated me for the damage they did, which was under $100 and nothing irreplacable. NO tip for them tho - duh.
I was impressed that I could just call an owner and explain what was broken and have him actually take my word for it, apologize, and send me a reimbursement check THE SAME DAY. I mean who does that anymore?? Usually its like "right, thats unfortunate...well you should have moved all that crap out of the way - that's sometimes how deliveries go - these guys do the absolute best they can".
None of the crap from Rick. An apology and a check right then and there. WOW.
The 1st mattress we bought was called the "Heavenly" bed and is their top seller. It was beautiful at first - but 3 weeks later we realized it was just way too soft for us. Called Rick: "no problem, just come in and pick out another one". We did and he sent a different delivery team who were THE BOMB. Soooooo nice and friendly and professional! We paid a $50 redelivery fee but that's not bad for testing a mattress out for 3 weeks, if you ask me.
Be sure to ask for BRYAN & KARL to deliver your mattress if you want GREAT service, NO insults, and NOTHING broken! Wow. They drove my new 2nd mattress out to Oak Park, through a DOWNPOUR, and then up 3 flights of stairs. And with a smile on their faces the entire time. So cool. Never was a lamp nudged or an insult tossed off - they were both super nice and friendly the whole time.
I tipped Bryan & Karl $20 each plus 2 cold bottles of Starbucks Frappucinos I had in the fridge - (see Victor? being an asshole really DOESNT pay).
Cuz who doesn't need a caffeine pickup after a morning of climbing stairs with a huge mattress on your back?
Anyway, please DO tip generously if you get a team that IS doing their job right!
I've recommended this place to others and will continue to do so - don't go anywhere else in Chicago, just go here and Sweet Dreams! -

If you're looking for a mattress, you're probably expecting a huge headache. Well, shopping at Sleep City was surprisingly great.
Walking in, my boyfriend and I were all ready to get attacked and annoyed by a sales person, and end up leaving discouraged. This couldn't have been further from our actual experience. The owner Rick was very casual, said hello and made some small talk. We laid on a bunch of beds, changing our minds a hundred times. He answered our questions without being "lurky."
We ended up with a firm pillow-top for a great deal. He'll knock off at least $100 if you mention that you found them on Yelp... score! We were worried it might be too firm, but he said we could try it for a bit and trade it in if it wasn't the right one.
Two quiet, quick, and polite guys delivered it on-time the next day. They set it up, and took away the old one. Having a good bed, and a good night's sleep is so important- I'm so glad Rick made this whole process painless. -
Review from Jo W.
"I'm so tired, I can't sleep."
"Man, my neck hurts."
"Man, how old IS this mattress? Really old. Could I have possibly been *conceived* in this mattress? Gross!"
These are sentences you may have heard me utter from time to time. Clearly I knew it was time for a new mattress, but I expected it to be this huge nightmare and I like to put off huge nightmares as long as possible.
But with a new shiny headboard and frame set up in my boudoir, it was finally time. When I couldn't take one more night of sleep in my bed, I headed here on a Friday after work - the perfect time to shop for a bed (if you ask me), when you're worn down from the week.
I entered the store and was immediately greeted by Karen. I told her what I was looking for, she asked about my new bed frame, she even asked me how I slept (side, stomach, etc), then got right to the point and asked me what I wanted to spend. I gave her a range, and she walked me around the store and let me try out the different mattresses.
She really took the time to explain each one to me, and she also educated me about what to expect, when to rotate them, etc. Since this was my first time mattress shopping, I cannot tell you how much I appreciated her honesty and her education. At no point did she ever try to pressure me into something I didn't want - I loved this. I was so worried mattress shopping was going to be like shopping for a car - I was worried that as a woman shopping alone, I was going to get ripped off. Totally not the case - in fact, when she asked me how I heard about them and I told her "Yelp!" she actually gave me a great deal because she loves Yelp! $1 sales tax and free delivery. Um, SOLD.
After narrowing it down to two that I liked, I finally settled on the MOST. COMFY. BED. EVER. I wanted to lay in this bed forever, and she even encouraged me to take as much time as I needed to make my decision. But I only needed a minute or two to know that this was the bed I was meant to spend my nights in. Happy sigh.
The best part? They delivered it THE SAME NIGHT. I was paying at 5:55pm, and it was in my apartment and set up at 8pm. TWO HOURS LATER, PEOPLE. AND, they made my old mattress go away for me. Seriously, does it get any better?
Thanks to Karen, I walked out of there with a new mattress, box spring, and hopefully many, many nights of restful and comfortable sleep ahead of me. -

How can all of these four and five star reviews be wrong? Well they can't. I absolutely agree with all of them.
Lara and I had a good idea on what kind of mattress we wanted and we had a price range in mind. When we came in there the owner greeted us. We told him what we were looking for, he guided us to the right. areas of the store and let us take our time and try out the mattresses at our leisure. He checked in on us from time to time to answer any questions we may have.
We finally decided on a mattress set up a delivery day and went on our merry way with an OUTSTANDING deal! I am now sleeping better than I have been in many years. -

Today, I had the best shopping experience of my life (I think, I'm sure) courtesy of Sleep City.
I picked them based on their stellar Yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. I called them up this afternoon, to order a mattress set and bedframe to be delivered immediately after my arrival at my new apartment on Thursday. Not only could this be done, but I am certain (though it was over the phone) it was done with a smile. I dealt with Charlie, who is also the owner of the store, and he was more than a pleasure to do business with. When I told him what I was looking for (full sized, medium firm) he didn't try to upsell me, but rather gave me descriptions of a few different sets he carried, in different price ranges. I went for a set which he sells for $399 (a set I have seen for loads more at other retailers), apparently his #2 best seller.
Charlie was a real pleasure to work with on getting this most important piece of furniture, and when he inquired as to how I heard of his establishment and I replied with an emphatic "Yelp! Every one of your reviews are five stars!" he seemed genuinely pleased and flattered. He also added that Sleep City is a Chicago home-grown business going fourteen years strong. He seemed really into his business, and I have never had a more friendly experience buying anything except for maybe bras at Agent Provocateur.
Of course I will edit this review once I have slept on this bed, but probably only to add that the free delivery and assembly was prompt and swift, and that the bed is like a dream. Please, those of you in the market for a new mattress set, buy it here. The prices are amazing, and you'll be supporting some really helpful, friendly folks.
Edited to add: the free delivery and assembly was prompt and swift, and the bed is like a dream! I KNEW it! Also, the bed came with a ten year warrantly, which I think is fantastic. This is one very comfortable and great bed! -

OMG.
We just bought a mattress in less time than it took us to buy socks at Target.
We walked in, were excitedly greeted by a charmingly know-it-all Rick, told him what we wanted, and Bam. Sold.
Quite literally, the easiest shopping experience of a major purchase, ever. He didn't try to jab us or steer us to the higher end stuff. It was an "either you want it, or you don't, it's your money," kind-of attitude. Loved it.
It basically went down like this:
He asked: Firm, soft, or medium?
We answered: Softish.
Him: Try this one.
Us: Oh! We like it!
Him: Harder or softer?
Us: Softer.
Him: Try this.
Us: Perfect!
Him: Great! Cheaper or pricier?
Us: Cheaper.
Him: Great, try this.
Us: Perfect again! We'll take it!
He then had it delivered less than 24 hours later, on a Sunday. They even took our old mattress away. We have been sleeping like queens ever since. Don't concentrate too much on the price tag, because he will make it fit your budget. We spent $450 on a swank, plush Sealy mattress...tax, delivery, no hassle included. Go here.
This is my first Yelp review. I started an account just to give these guys props. Enough said. -

This was the greatest mattress buying experience I could have ever asked for. I was extremely nervous about getting coaxed into a deal i didn't want, and that morning i looked more like disheveled cowgirl instead of a Chicago socialite, but was greeted with such respectful enthusiasm and pointed in the exact direction i needed.
Ric and Karen were so helpful that Ric even rolled around on a bed to show me the resilience of the coils! I didn't feel any movement!
Amazing!! They were even able to deliver it for free the very next day. I could never go back to a tie wearing Mattress King again. Viva la Sleep City! -

I was moving out of a furnished apartment into a cave where I'd have to buy everything to recreate my previous living experience (minus those god damn roommates). I happened upon sleep city whilst browsing yelp, and the flurry of good reviews gave me the will to transfer to the brownline to get my ass to lincoln park.
I was greeted by a very friendly woman when I arrived, and she showed me their beds. She also gave me a lot of alone time to lay down on the beds and figure out my perfect mattress. I made a mental note on the bed i'd picked out, but still had other places to shop, so I exited the store.
A week later I showed up at 10am, walked straight to the sales counter, and told the guy which bed I wanted, what price I was quoted, and that i'd need delivery. He asked me how I'd heard about the store, I mentioned yelp, he threw me a discount. He then asked when I'd need it delivered, and he offered to have it delivered that same day. A bit amazed, I had to question his offer. He told me that they could have it to my house before 1pm, but would probably get it there at 12pm noon. I said I liked the plan, because i'd slept the previous night sleeping on my floor, then signed off on some papers and rushed back home.
Sure enough, the delivery guys were there at 12:10pm, almost exactly 2 hours after my credit card had been swiped. They even included a bed build-out for just $10.
This is probably the best furniture purchasing experience I've ever had. I dealt with a lot of fairly pushy salesmen while hunting around other furniture stores for my bed & loveseat, one even literally told me to get out of the store when i told him i wouldn't be purchasing same day. Rick & his crew run a friendly, honest, and affordable shop that shouldn't be passed up by anyone in the city who is searching for a bed. -

Going on four years and I still love my mattress. The price was ridiculously cheap, delivery was quick and on time and Rick the sales guy was terrific. If I ever need a bed again, they'll get my business.

If you EVER need a mattress - please go to Sleep City. Being of the poor, struggling marketing type I was terrified when my old box spring gave out and was faced at the prospect of buying my own bed. Having no money to spend, I started my box spring shopping excursion heading down Mattress Mile (Diversey) and stopping at all the "big name" mattress sellers on the street. After receiving terrible service and being told that mattresses and box springs were only sold as a set, I stumbled into Sleep City on my way home. Rick understood my trouble, my pain and my fear, and I walked away with a quality, 15-year guaranteed box spring for $129.
Fast forward three years, and my old mattress is on its last legs. The box spring is holding up, but I now have to replace the matching piece of the bed ensemble. After referring countless friends to the small, cozy mattress shop, I walked back in to see my old friends at Sleep City. Explaining that I have a king-sized, pillowtop mattress that is in storage until my boyfriend finishes college in a year, I needed a quality, no-frills, full-sized mattress to get me through the next year. Eric, the manager, gave me a good deal on the same mattress he sleeps on and we did the deal on the spot. I walked into Sleep City at 3 p.m. on a Saturday, bought the mattress at 3:15, got home at 3:30 and had the bed delivered at 3:45. And they took the mattress away and did not charge for delivery.
In a day and age where great customer service is hard to find, I cannot be a more enthusiastic advocate for Sleep City. Do NOT go anywhere else in the city if you need a mattress - you will not find nicer people, more honest folks and a better price anywhere else.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Do NOT shop anywhere else in Chicago for a mattress. These guys are incredible. I picked out the mattress of my dreams, and they kindly negotiated the sticker price down and offered to not charge tax.
I had agreed to buy a demo for a lower price.. then he decided he'd rather keep the demo (being memorial day weekend he needed it). So he charged me the lower price for a brand new one, but it couldn't be delivered for 10 days. Being new in the city I had no mattress to sleep on, so he delivered another new mattress within 2 hours for me to use for the 10 days while I waited for my new mattress to be delivered. WOW, what great service.
Sales person was friendly without being pushy.. overall a great shopping experience. Can't recommend this place highly enough. -

Nice people and good prices.
Delivery on time.
Gave me the wrong sized larger profiled boxspring as opposed to the lower half-sized boxspring which was originally promised, (which I only realized after having setup everything, and left me too tired to break it all down again as I had to unpack and assemble it all myself) so loss of half a star.(other half on me)
and yes I would do it again, just smarter with a tape measure on delivery.
