i had such an awesome experience. i have very sensitive skin and enormous breakouts. Its very quiet and serene and Penn was very patient and guided me through the entire process step by step. She was very thorough during the extraction process. end result- glowing, smooth skin. Would definitely recommend this place to all my friends.

I moved up the San Francisco a little over a year ago and was dreading the process of finding someone as good as the person I had been going to for years in LA, but after searching through Yelp for a while, Penn seemed like a good place to start. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have hit the jackpot right off the bat! I'm there religiously every 4 weeks for a bikini and full leg waxing and she does a fantastic job and is very detailed and thorough. She also works with my schedule when I have last minute changes in plans and manages to fit me in during the same week so my waxing doesn't get off schedule. Very, very, very glad I found Penn!

I have been in search for a Perfect Brazilian for past 4 months ( since I moved to SF ). I have tried 4 different places, and I finally found one!!!! Penn is perfect at what she does!!She did not miss anything, very detailed, which I really like. You don't have to go home and finish the unfinished business! She uses a good wax, and the process was fast and not very painful. Her price is great for the perfect service! ( I have paid more before at other place that I tried, had "leftovers", and skin scratch )

Highly recommended. Penn makes you feel very comfortable which is #1 in my book when dealing with the awkwardness of someone working on certain areas that don't see the sun much. I was referred to her by my BFF who had been going to her for years even before she had her own spot. The waiting room has a spa-esque feel to it complete with complimentary water and tea self service. The actual room is very calming with soft lighting and soothing music. Penn takes her time and does a spot on job each and every session. Don't come here thinking you'll be in and out in 15 minutes. It's worth the time and it goes by quick since Penn is such a pleasure to chat with. I am always happy with the results and I've referred her to many friends who feel the same way!
This review is only for waxing. I hear her facials are amazing and I look forward to treating myself to one in the near future. -

I came to Penn to get a facial for the first time last month, I'm used to facials taking at most 1 hour or so, but not with Penn. If you are planning a facial, set aside at least 2 or 2 1/2 hours for that baby... Penn is meticulous, I don't know all she does, but whatever it is it works. The experience is always very relaxing and rejuvenating. My skin felt so smooth after she was done with me, I couldn't stop touching my face in awe... I've NEVER had such smooth skin before!!
She even did some complimentary eyebrow work on me, since my eyebrows kind of go all over the place. She shaped them perfectly! (it's not an easy task, let me tell you)
Just be aware, that because it's just her working in her own studio and there isn't a receptionist, most of the time when you call she's with a client and the phone will go directly to voice mail, but she is always very meticulous about getting back to you within the same day or at most the day after. Excellent communication!
I'm scheduled for a brazillian wax with her in a few weeks since I'm going on vacation soon, if she's as attentive with her waxing as she is with her facials, I have no worries because I know I'll be getting my moneys worth! -

Sometimes I worry that potential employers will look at my Yelp reviews and judge me based on them, but I'm pretty excited about this, so I'll throw caution to the wind for the sake of Yelpers everywhere.
Penn gives an amaaaazing wax. She's not just professional and nice, she's also really fun to talk to. She doesn't make you feel like she's some woman you just met five minutes ago who you are forcing awkward conversation with because she's all up in your girly shit, she actually carries on normal (and interesting) conversation with you. And she's verrrrry meticulous about getting every last hair.

Penn is AMAZING. Her "skinspace-place", truly, exquisitely beautiful (like my own space at 450 Sutter EOS Lymphatic Massage!)
She's a perfectionist, does exceptional work and I have already referred 4 of my own massage clients to her. Brazilian was virtually painless and Penn is an absolute witty and lovely conversationalist! Highly recommend both the beautiful Penn and her work. AWESOME. -

I've been going to Penn for years. She's amazing! In one word, she's meticulous. Have you ever been waxed and gone home to find a few stray hairs missed by the esthetician? That will NEVER happen with Penn. She does a perfect job every time. Even when I travel for extended periods, I don't allow anyone to touch my eyebrows but her.
She's friendly, always fun to chat with, calm, easy-going & professional. She stays on schedule. She's completely booked (so make your appt in advance) but never has to cancel or change my appointments. I get there early and she always takes me in at my scheduled time. Her space is clean & pleasant. Her waiting room has (nice) tea and magazines to welcome you. Her space is conveniently located at Union Square - so it's easy to get to by bus, or you can drive and park in the many parking lots close by (and you can even squeeze in a little shopping while you're in the area!).
If you're looking for a great esthetician that you'll stay with for years, Penn is the one. Give her a try. You won't regret it. -

I love Penn! I tried a few places in San Francisco after having my first Brazilian in New York before my sisters wedding. The places I found were terrible. One woman didn't know how to deal with my plus size and left so much hair I spent 2 hours with a tweezer & a mirror afterwards. Penn has saved my life! She is meticulous, she doesn't have problems adjusting to your abilities and size. Her place is clean and quiet. I always feel very calm and happy when I leave her. You will need to book your next appointment before you leave and she is frequently booked up for major waxing but when I had an eyebrow emergency she squeezed me in! I will not use anyone else, Penn will be my waxer as long as she continues to wax.

Penn is the only one allowed to give me a bikini wax. She is friendly and talks to you throughout (a nice distraction!) and is meticulous about the process. The pain associated with her waxes are minimal and she is very thorough in using aloe and powder to minimize itching and redness.
The only downside is that she is always booked, and appointments with her are planned far in advance. But it's easy once you start seeing her, and can schedule the next appointment with your service. And she follows up with a reminder phone call the day before the appointment. -

Penn is very nice and wonderful conversationalist. My eyebrows look good and the environment was calming. However, it took her quite a long time...We're talking upwards of half an hour. And the price was $30 without tip. I think this is a bit expensive for eyebrows, no matter how nice of a salon it is.
I may come back for something that I expect to be expensive, like a Brazilian... -

Penn is a total pro. She's meticulous, gentle, and takes real pride in her work. Skinspace is her studio and it's comfortable and spotless. It's easy to relax in the quiet, private space and Penn's lovely personality makes the time fly.
I went to her when my longtime esthetician was on maternity leave and never left. That was three or four years ago and I won't go to anyone else, even if it's sometimes difficult to get an appointment. She is absolutely worth it. -

Penn is incredible. She does a fantastic and thorough job every time. I have only had Brazilian waxing done and she is just so damn good at it! After many tries at other salons, Penn is definitely the most meticulous for a good price ($55 I believe?)
I do have to say it is a little hard to get an appointment on short notice here since she's the only one who runs the place. But I love supporting those independent businesses and it's well worth the wait. -

So I've never really had a brazilian from anyone else, but Penn is pretty good (well as good as getting a brazilian can really get I guess...).
Her place is really soothing, she's friendly, and she's quick. So although it hurts in certain place, at least it passes quickly! -

Have you ever had an eye brow waxing be so relaxing that you almost fell asleep?? Well you will get just that at Skin Space. Penne is just the esthetician to make you super relaxed and beautiful all at the same time.

Penn and her Skinspace spot are amazing. I love the one woman show here. Penn is very detail oriented and professional. I found her via some online recommendation, pre-yelp days, and am so glad I did. I've referred folks to her, thus increasing my wait time for a wax but she's worth it. I couldn't imagine going to anyone else.

Penn is wonderful! I've been going to her for a few year now. I've gotten facials there and she's very good. I always go to her for waxing. The space is very soothing and relaxing and she always chats it up so that the whole waxing process ends in a snap. When you call for an appt you'll need to leave her a msg b/c she doesn't have a receptionist... it's just her there! She's good about calling back and her voice is always pleasant.

I am writing this review on behalf of my girlfriend. After a previous experience with another waxer, who did not treat her with any respect nor did a thorough job, we looked for a new waxer and found Penn. Scheduling with her was easy, I left a message which was returned within a day and she offered a convenient evening appointment. Her office is terrific, it is her own place with a small waiting area and a large room for her clients.
My girlfriend was very much at ease for her first time with Penn. The room has a very relaxing environment and Penn carried on a great conversation throughout the session. Penn is very meticulous as previous reviewers have mentioned, every last hair was gone. My girlfriend was completely smooth and softer down there than ever before! When we left I asked her if there was any pain, she looked at me inquisitively and said there was no pain! Overall my girlfriend was very happy and will return to Penn. Go see Penn, you will be pleased for sure. -

Penn is my savior!
She opened her own place shortly after I moved here and saved my life! I am very sensitive when it comes to brazilians, have been to a myriad of different places and spent a small fortune at shmancy spots. Penn is by far the best and totally affordable!
Recently I got a facial from her and it was heaven (besides the extraction part...which is always a pain). She mentioned that she used to be a massage therapist and you can tell! With just about every lotion/cleanser/masque application I got a soothing face/neck/shoulder arm massage. I've only had one facial before in my life and this was by far MUCH better than that...and that one was pretty good.
Penn's space is superclean yet comfortable, reflecting her own professional yet friendly and relaxed personality. IMO these are essential qualities for this type of service...and Penn is the best!
On that note: don't expect to call and get an appointment the next day...she has a regular clientele so call early if you have a particular deadline (wedding, burningman, etc..). -

Penn is a perfectionist. When someone is applying hot wax on your skin and ripping off swaths of hair you want them to be meticulous. The hair removal process with Penn is neither painful or uncomfortable. I have been going to Penn for seven years now and have never had a negative experience. My eyebrows always looked fabulous after a visit. I have not had the tendency to be loyal to my stylists, but Penn warrants unwavering devotion and loyalty. She's that good!

As someone who gets waxed every 4 weeks, I was desperate when my usual girl moved. I wanted somewhere pleasant and professional in Union Square, since it's near my job. I went to Penn because of her rave Yelp reviews, and now I wold love to go back for additional services! I definitely plan to continue to see her! She fit me in at the exact time and day I wanted, which was great because (based on her reviews!) she is probably pretty booked! She was very precise and gentle, but she got me in and out quickly (which I can really appreciate!) Five big stars!

i loathe going down town/ union square.... but penn is way worth it. i always get my brows done with her, and im hooked. ive also had her super duper facial, and even the "just passing the time" little hand/arm/shoulder attention is perfecto. only down side is you have to sign in and out of the building when you are visiting. its an "office building" and even though slowing down and just signing my name should not be a big deal, sometimes, it just is.

skinspace is a one woman show run by penn patee who is just a total sweetheart. located in a quiet, comfortable, and clean studio near union square, penn is only woman i let near my brazilian. although her services include many other skin treatments, i have only ever gone for a brazilian. her extremely efficient work can sometimes take near 30 minutes, but her expertise and talkative nature make the process seem quick and painless. penn uses a combination of hot wax and stripless wax for the sensitive areas ensuring minimal pain, redness and swelling but still resulting in an immaculate finish. for me, the sign of a great brazilian is when i do not have to do any touch ups at home. i have been to many, many estheticians (although not in the bay area) and penn is by far the best. words of advice: don't count on penn for last minute appointments. you need to book this popular chica about a month in advance.
