This place makes a nostalgic Wisconsin expat feel right at home. What do I mean by that? Well...

The beer is vast, varied, unique, and sometimes very rare. The owners must have some in-connections with local breweries (Vancouver Island's Driftwood, for example) because they frequently feature beers that the CAMRA dorks pummel each other for. Beers range greatly in price ($5ish to $20ish for big bottles) but are 100% good quality, with plenty of affordable and interesting options. Even as a beer enthusiast who works in a liquor store, there's always something new to try...even if it's a 40oz. of Old English (again, I said I was from Wisconsin!) I've also gone with two friends who don't drink alcohol, and they got what they deemed "The Best Virgin Mojitos They've Ever Had."

Food is simple, flavourful, and affordable. The poutine, whose gravy is made with St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, is not to be passed up. The warm beet and goat cheese salad and the steak salad with arugula, truffle oil, and (nice and sharp) gorgonzola are also standouts.

Atmosphere is cozy, personal, and warm...the perfect place for a not-too-fancy-but-I-still-really-like-you third date. The vibe is unassuming but cool, modern in approach but with creaking stairs and warm lighting. Call it...Farmhouse Chic. The balcony upstairs overlooks the Gassy Jack statue and some decent people watching// "gee the rain looks romantic" out the floor-to-ceiling front windows. Menus, as many others have noted, are contained in old children's books. Books on tape are piped in through the bathroom sound system. Staff is helpful but never stalker-ish.

Everyone is knowledgeable about the beer...and that's what really matters, isn't it?

Kudos for a decent selection of beer, but pretty ordinary on the food and service front.

We ordered the Gorgonzola, the Charcuterie and the Mussels.  The cheese was average at best and the best of the lot.  The Mussels were just terrible - half of the ten mussels were not open - would have complained but it was impossible to get some attention.

Okay - so I had one beer on the patio as I was waiting for a table at another establishment nearby.  Much to my surprise, they had bottles of Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA (do not confuse this with Red Racer IPA - completely different and inferior compared to R5) as one of their featured beers.  My eyes bugged out and I instantly put the menu down.  When a place stocks one of your current 'Top 5' beers, that's an instant 4-star.

Patio was alright, I suppose - although a lot of Gastown vagrants came back asking for change or trying to sell you things.  Service was sufficiently fast considering how packed they were.

The joint is pretty kitschy with the bound menus and really one of the many 'we're trying too hard' Gastown establishments that I'm not too keen on.  But they won me over with having my favourite 'balanced' IPA on offer.  I was tempted to skip on the waiting time at the other joint and just make it an R5 night.

Will try to get back here before they run out.  Rating will likely drop when they do.

So it was that I found myself in the heart of Gastown on a first date with the exquiste Raven, a jeweler and sculptor and loving mother. I had ordered salad and she went with wings. 6 Acres offers either 'Sweet and Hot' or 'Salt and Pepper.'

    Ok.

First off, no one wants to f@#%&*g eat Salt and Pepper wings. As a cook I do not disregard the importance of the universal seasonings salt and pepper but on chicken wings? I don't get it. Salt and enhances flavour and in my experience most place serving wings are going to want to mask the flavour of old deep fryer oil and cheap dessicated Sysco chicken wings. Bitterness and cynicism aside, good meaty wings cooked in fresh oil at the right temp could be quite good with just a little salt and pepper but you won't find me risking my palate over them.

So I lucked out when Raven went for the Hot and Sweet. I know it deviates slightly from my mandate to only review "hot" wings but hey do you want a review or not? I had polished off my salad when she offered me one of the numerous wings on her plate.

Upon first glance they appeared to be of average size. The price on the menu was $10.75, so right in the middle of the wing spectrum which sets my standard higher than any sort of wing special night kinda nonsense that is necessary in this line of work. I picked up one of the glistening drummettes - which I find have more meat and I prefer over the wing-proper. The meat was tender and easily pulled away from the bone without being too oily. An initial honey sweetness changed quickly to a cayenne spice that seemed more generic and less vinegary than Franks. Perhaps just a 'Louisiana' hot sauce as the base. A lingering heat was easily extinguished with a few sips of Chechvar which pairs amazingly well with hot wings.

A subltle malt with nutty grain flavours all the way through, Czechvar has an amazing crispness within it's moderate body. Subtle citrus and hops with a mild bitterness with a clean dry finish. Interestinly it is still bottled as Budweiser in Europe, Anheueser Busch ripped them off in North America, poorly copied and brewed and then sued the Czech maker who subsequently had to change the name of their product to Czechvar here - true story. This is one of my favorite beers, ice cold and refreshing especially in Summer.

The portion was about 10 decent sized wings and wouldn't fill me up as a full meal but were a little too large for an appetizer. This little problem is easily remedied. Just share the little bastards and wash 'em down with one of the amazing beers they serve.

Endgame: Not a wing destination by any means, but if y'er in Gastown and want a great beer they will accompany one of 6 Acres many fine lagers and ales. 7/10

My sister had her birthday drinks here. It's a adorable laid back space, but definitely a tad squishy. My advice? Don't complain - just be nice and make friends. =)

They do take resos for large parties, as evidenced by our long bench of 8. The service was quick and attentive, and the server really knew her booze and had lots of great recommendations. Very mixed crowd - but all seemed super chill.

We do owe an apology to anyone who was at the bar that night. One of the gals in our group had gone a little crazy with the hairspray that night, and when leaning into a conversation her hair got a little too close to the candle. Yup, hairspray fireball. Our lightening reflexes saved the day - but our poor neighbors had to endure the stink of burnt hair for part of the night. Sorry.

One of the most amazing spaces in Gastown, as far as I'm concerned. Cute design, too - the menus bound in old hardcover books on weathered paper is a seriously nice touch. Great drinks, great view, cozy, fun menu. Wish them veggie sliders were vegan.

I work across the street and like to watch their daytime prep process. I'm kind of a creep. It makes me feel a little like a secret voyeur when I occasionally go for a drink after my shift. For all I know, they're watching me, too. Spooky...

One of my very favourite spots for drinks anywhere in Vancouver.

Vintage childrens books as menus? Unique and tasty snack menu? Board games? A decent selection of import lager (for once!)...?

    Check, check, check and check.

I will truly miss this busy little pub. it's fabulous. Wonderful atmosphere.

1 star taken away because you can never get a bloody seat without a wait! (Which, I suppose, is technically a good thing)

I have always strolled into siix acres on a night out but it has always, to my disappointment, been full! In saying that, a full restaurant always means a good restaurant...
On a Wednesday night, catching up with a good friend over tasty beers and mac & cheese in Six Acres was no less than perfect. Although the space is petite, there is an upstairs, a downstairs and a patio all this moody, dim lighting. The Beer menu consumes the restaurant but the small selection of food available is perfect for sharing. And a heads up to you all that the mac & chjeese is to die for!
    I recommend

You know a place is doing well for itself when they are packed on a Monday night. I couldn't be bothered to even read the extensive drink menu so I let my company order the entire night. I was happy with all of them- happy enough to drop $90 on drinks alone and stumble out at a very respectable hour. Our waitress was so nice that we gave her a couple macaroons from Thierry as an extra tip! See you soon, Six Acres.

OK i love this place. Love it in the summer when you get a seat outside, sip some whiskey or beer, eat some yum food and wave at the chumps paying $9 for popcorn across the street at Chill Winston! HA!!! Suckahs!!
OK fine I used to be that chump but I learned my lesson...Chill Winston review to come soon.

Until then, let's focus. So they had me at the old school interior which reminded me of the old Irish Heather (solitary tear). And please take notice of the framed picture of Poncho and his partner (seriously what was that guys name???) from CHiPs near the bathroom. OK i just aged myself but it's so awesome! CHiPs!!!

Anyway, I don't like pretentious places and this locale makes me feel right at home. Their beer menu is extensive and I love trying something new every time... try the Hobgoblin. I know I've ordered food here before but it's usually late and i may (MAY) have been a little tipsy. I vaguely recall some really good french fries (or were they yam?) but regardless it was all good.

Also, I distinctly remember drinking wayyyy too much whiskey at a friends going away evening and being really afraid at what the bill would look like. It was really not so bad considering how many we put down. I was impressed. For a neighbourhood with so many overpriced drinking holes, I relish Six Acres and hope i never changes. Character like this cannot be bought.

A few days ago we went to Six Acres for a little bit of beer and food and we were perched up in it's cozy loft with a great view of gas town looking right behind Gassy Jack. This was perfect for me as we could sit there and think about the life Gassy Jack and some of his great accomplishments.

We shared a few small plates, mac & cheese, shoestring fries and  Gorgonzola hot pot, all were delicious and all were perfect accompaniments with beer.

Dessert for me was a little disappointing and perhaps it's my fault.

My wife ordered the apple pie and I ordered the cookies and creme. The apple pie was fantastic but my cookies and creme were literally 4 cookies and a side of creme! I just assumed that cookies and creme was a name for some extravagant dish with cookies, ice creme and perhaps some  chocolate sprinkles, i LOVE sprinkles. I do blame myself because I ordered based on the title alone and I did not look at the description.

Why only 4 stars? Well first of the price of beer, sorry you can't win me over with $6+ beer, I'm sure Gassy Jack would not approve. Then there is a sign saying "No beatnicks" which I have a problem with, it's beatniks, not beatnicks, surely someone so apposed to having beatniks in their establishment would offer correct spelling.

I guess who am I to judge, this coming from the worst speller in yelp history! Thank you spell check!

Six Acres, the best place to people-watch in all of Gastown -- that is, if you're one of the lucky few to get a seat on the patio. Not only a great spot to keep an eye on the world as it goes by, but also a place with an amazingly cool vibe. With its eclectic, vintage feel, it has plenty of character to speak of -- a cozy loft, exposed brick, old book bound covers for menus, and super sweet candle light to set a very laid back mood. Also, a note on the bathrooms: old audio recordings while you do your thing may seem strange, but it is actually quite possibly the coolest (if not most unique) bathroom-experience in all of Vancouver.

The food is decent and the drink selection is impressive, but most importantly, in a neighbourhood where character and ambiance can sometimes be left behind, Six Acres has managed to keep it real.

Where's Six Acres? What? You've never been???  You just must, especially if you like good food and beer.

Their menu changes all the time and its good and bad.  Good is that you have something new to try each time you're there.  Bad, well sucks when you found something really really good and you can't get it again.

Yesterday I got to try their veggie sliders, and OMG OMG OMG OMG [insert flopping hands and valley girl voice] it was delectable!  Great texture and flavours.  Just wished the bun wasn't so thick!

Both normal and feature beer lists have a great selection to fulfill the pickiest beer snob.  And! The price is reasonable.

Service is always great, even if you end up sitting upstairs and the crowd is a mix of gastown office folks and the ecclectic.  No problems starting a conversation with the person next to you.  Always a great time at 6 Acres.

Have I convinced you yet?  You GOTTA go!

The six acres is a great place. Throwback in its feel it needs no gimmicks and is a great down to earth place in gastown to choose from a selection of beers. Didn't get to try any of their food but their dishes also looked good. Prices are just right and the waitstaff is friendly.

Wish I had more time in Vancouver so I could go back. It's a place that will probably still be there when I return so one day I will. Would totally recommend this place to someone visiting and wanting to get a taste of the laid back nightlife.

Six Acres is done up sort of in the way I wish my home would look (extensive supply of booze and all), but, given budgetary constraints, I have to settle for being a visitor to such spaces and not the host. Fortunately, my visits to Six Acres have always been a treat. I really like the feel of the room: it's dark and moody, but really conducive to a good energy. A good place to catch up with friends or even to go on a date. The supply of board games is also useful for filling any gaps in the conversation! It's usually busy here, but long waits can be avoided if you time your visit accordingly.

Beer isn't my drink of choice, but I really appreciate a thoughtful and varied beer list, which Six Acres delivers. Eclectic wine list, and a comprehensive selection of spirits, including one of my favourites - Maker's Mark, served neat. There will be something for everyone to enjoy. The drinks here are also reasonably priced, in my opinion.

I haven't tried much of the food here, but I did sample a quesadilla that was on one of the previous incarnations of the menu and enjoyed it. While it might be irritating to not see your favourite item on the menu months later, I like that the menu rotates. Good selection for vegetarians, and mega points for offering a variety of different desserts, covering almost all the bases - currently, the offerings include a fruit (apple), vanilla, chocolate, and citrus based dessert. Lemon tart + Maker's Mark + beautiful room + daydreams = luxury!

This place is probably more 3.5 stars, but I can't quite bring myself to round it up to 4.

The food was nice and I totally can't fault it. Nothing to leap around with excitement because of, but certainly nice. We had:

Gorgonzola and roasted garlic dip with warm bread (rich and creamy)
Green Beans with pine nuts and basil (very tasty)
Veggie Sliders (cauliflower and mushroom patties = win)
    Lemon Tart (average)

The whole "share plate" concept is kinda cool and they have priced the menu and portioned the servings appropriately to do so.

This place is packed on the weekend and the tables are very close to one another. It does create a nice bustling vibe, and it is a cute little building, but it means that the people waiting for a table get to stare at you and see how much you have left to eat while they shiver in the doorway. Not a fan of "pressure eating".

Impressive beer selection. Average service. Nothing major to fault but a fairly indifferent attitude.

Of all the places we went, we wish we would have spent longer here. We actually tried to come back a second time to try some Scotch they had, but they were closed.

This was a great choice to begin our Gastown adventure. The vibe was cool and relaxed and the service was friendly and accommodating. The beer and whiskey selection is bountiful and well chosen.

I was pretty happy to sit here and sip a Pimms, would have loved to snag an upstairs seat with board game in hand and try their more adventurous looking drinks as well as some mussels. But alas the siren call of Gastown beckoned us on.....

My boyfriend and I were originally heading to Labattoir on Carrall St. (this street is super rejuvenated with food places, btw) but the menu didn't offer many veggie options, and Leo got instantly hooked by the "43 beers and counting" sign outside Six Acres. It was a packed house on a Saturday night with a couple in front of us, but we patiently waited the 25 mins. and scoured the menu - which are the most awesome looking menus I've seen since The Eatery.

I opted for the Veggie Sliders ($8.75) since I am always jealous of people who I dine with who get those cute burger patties. The night was in my favour already! And some Green Beans ($6.25) to start which were really simple - garlic butter, basil and pine nuts.

Leo went a bit nuts with the Mussels ($14.75), Sweet & Spicy Wings ($10.75) & Classic sliders ($9.25) + the aged cheddar for an extra $1. I was surprised that the mussels were so huge. You can see one in a photo I took (the super dark one). Leo got a treat with the beer selection, though he mentioned none were on tap. The FAT TUG IPA he got was really fat and had 80 IBUs which is apparently pretty high in bitterness. They also had one of his favourite Japanese beers, Hitashino Nesto.

I love the decor at this place. They've maximized the space as much as they can (though it still seems small with everyone in it), and everything has a homey touch, from the bookcases to the bill baskets. I'm sure the brick in the place is original too.  Our server was great, and the only thing besides the wait that bothered me were people opening the door and holding it open as they asked the host how long the wait was. Thanks for the winter draft, guys.

With a nice view of the Gastown street & the Gassy Jack statue, it's definitely a good place to take people from out of town to get that 'historic' feel. A smart thing to take reservations too, if you can.

It was my first time trying the Six Acres on Thursday Feb 17th.
The location is good and if you get the right seat upstairs you have great views of Gastown, it feels like you are in another century.
It is a small place but has a wonderful vibe, no wonder it gets packed on the weekend. My party had the Mac and Cheese / Veg Sliders and we shared the shoestrings (fries). All of the food was lovely and cooked to perfection.
The service wasn't great, the waitress/server couldn't master a smile but that wouldn't put me off coming back as the place makes up for it.

I have been coming to this place for several years now, and I really love it here. The brick, and sort of awkward layout, as well as the little knick knacks scattered everywhere really make for a cozy, warm, comfortable, hip little place, giving it something a brand new shiny, modern place will never be able to achieve. Awesome beer selection (although I always seem to end up ordering the same thing) and pretty good menu. The food here isn't stellar, but I'm willing to overlook a few things because of the atmosphere. EDIT - I came here last night and split a plate of three sliders with a couple other people and they were superb! The staff are all laid back and really friendly.

If you come here after 9 on a Friday or Saturday, expect to wait for a table.

The curry cauliflower soup was good and the beet salad was really good.

Nicoise  salad was not so good. All the classic components were present in some form or another. Egg tasted the best, tuna tasted the worst and the balance fell somewhere down the middle.

The premises are dark and somewhat uncomfortable and the service was subdued but very pleasant.

Lots of beer to choose from. And a drink special on Czech beer on a Friday night, yields no complaints from me!

The space is small and laid back. The windows would likely be fogged up if the door didn't open so often (probably a welcome relief in the summer, in wintertime though, it is a little chilly near the door).

I found the bathroom "ambiance" interesting. The sound system in the loo sounded like that of a ship's and for a moment I felt like I was below deck. Maybe I missed the ship reference?

Menus were bound into old books. I had a Dr. Seuss book. I liked the eclectic, antiqued feel about this space. If it had been a quieter night there, I think it would have felt more like a tavern from way back. Have a listen to the track they have on the website (under listen) and you'll get what I mean.

I almost gave it a 3 star review because we were told after our first drink that we needed to also order food, by law. Although, they didn't enforce it. If anyone knows if this is a law in BC, let me know.

Regardless, next time I'll be sure not to eat beforehand so I can try out what others have recommended.

Can you tell I'm a Gastown boy? I don't even work there anymore, but I still keep hitting up the local bars regularly...

I heart Six Acres. I really do. It's awesome. The only problem is the complete lack of decent seating. Aside from that, it's aces.

Six Acres is *the* place to go for good, cheap Belgian beer in Vancouver. There's Stella on The Drive, and there's always Chambar, but if you want to eat well and drink a massive variety of your yeasty friend, from lambic to Flemish, and not spend through the nose, this is the place to go. The selection is massive if you get there early enough; they do tend to run out of stuff off-and-on, but it's no worse than any of the alternative Belgian beer spots, so definitely give it a go.

The food is great. I really miss the tartines they used to have last year, which were great light open-faced sandwiches for dinner, but the stuff they replaced it with is tasty too. The food menu is pretty tight, not a huge selection anymore, but it's all good and there's a nice variety.

Of course, you'll need to find a seat first. That's the challenge. Good luck and godspeed... because if you show up here anytime after 8pm, you've got pretty much jack shit chances of finding a seat... and jack just left town. (*cough*) There's probably seating for... err.. 30-40 people, tops. And that's being really generous. Odds are better if you're only bringing a couple of people and you get there early.

Summer improves your chances of getting in a touch, as there's more seating outside... but if it's cold or rainy, be prepared to wait a while before sitting down, because there's no lounge or bar to hang out at in the meantime. You'll probably find yourself strolling across the intersection of Carrall and Water to Chill Winston or the Irish Heather more often than not. :)

Oh, they're also closed Sunday and Monday. Which kinda sucks if you work in the area and want to go for beers on a Monday night. Be warned.

A couple of buddies and I staggered into Six Acres a while back in search of a proper night cap.
    We were not disappointed!
This is a weird place to go for the best wings in Vancouver, but trust me, they are pretty damn good. We were done the first plate in less than two minutes. And then another... and yes, one more for good measure.
The beer was excellent. No idea what it was other than it arriving in a dark green old fashioned looking small bottle. At this point in the evening, the beer was pretty unnecessary except that it kept our faces relatively clean.
I will also be back shortly!

Comfortable and non-pretentious, both the pub treats and drinks were really good.  The Gruyere fondue and sliders were delicious and they have a really decent selection of beers to wash it all down.

My only complaint would be the wait, because it's pretty hard not to get really thirsty with all that awesome beer just waiting for you to drink!  Oh and the music was just a touch too loud, but that's probably only because I'm getting crankier as I get older ;-)

3 girlfriends & I decided to try out Six Acres. With a very lax front patio with old books transformed to menu's and a very nice beer list - we all loved it. The funny entree names made me smile, especially the Sophia Loren.

The only downside is the staff having to chase off the junkies - while you are eating & drinking, it gets a little tiresome. Cheers to them for shooing them away.

    Six Acres, i'll be back!

If you want to come here on a busy Friday night (as we did), plan to arrive early or wait a while for a table. It will be super busy and packed. Unfortunately that also means you'll get awful service. Our server was friendly but I felt like I spent most of the time craning my neck looking for her. I asked for water (and one or two refills) and had to remind her several times per request. I wouldn't want to be relying on her for water if I were stranded in the desert!

On to the most important thing - the alcohol! I tried the Australian Pipsqueak cider, which was good but very overpriced in my opinion. The other drink I tried was the Pimms, which was very smooth and not too sweet. With the exception of the cider, I actually found the drink menu very reasonably priced for the type of venue and trendy neighbourhood.

I didn't eat here because, due to my gluten intolerance, I found the menu to be extremely limited.

One final point - the bathroom is oddly situated upstairs, so if after a couple of drinks your balance maybe isn't what it was when you arrived, be careful not to trip on your way back down to your table - unless you want to provide the live entertainment for the entire bar!

Overall I would come back, but I wasn't overly impressed. I'd try other Gastown faves first.

    Not bad!

Tina, Ty & I came here last night for a quick bite to eat. The place was packed (as were all the resto's in Maple Tree Square) and we were lucky to be seated right away at a table upstairs in the back.

The resto is low-lit, with little antiques highlighted in lit-up wooden frames on the wall. I absolutely loved those little boxes! Such a fun and unique way to display treasures as art. Totally smitten.

Our food was simple, but tasty. We ordered the beet salad (the mint was a nice touch), green peppers with pine nuts (small, crunchy but good), Gorgonzola fondue (average), Czech beers, some fancy drinks.... all decent. Good share food, but know that it's all miniature!

The highlight? The shoestring fries! These yarn-thin fries came drizzled with a citrus-y garlic mayo that tasted like the word awesome on a plate. Best thing on the menu! Ok, I'm ranting. I haven't tried everything on the menu...

Great little space, charming atmosphere, rock-awesome fries!

    My favourite pub.
Friendly staff, good food and a helluva selection of beers. Bottles from all over the world. For those with a taste for something different this is the place or you. For those looking for cheap draft or a can of PBR, look elsewhere.
The food is quite tasty and sized perfectly for nibbling with aforementioned beer.
Ambiance and decor rocks. No TV's to distract you from your deep philosophical conversations is nice too...so if you're looking for a spot to catch the game, look elsewhere.
It gets quite busy and the busier it gets, the louder it gets too. Even on a Monday night recently every table was full of hip looking folk enjoying their drinks of choice and their friends.
Nice patio out front in the summer...perfect for watching the colourful mix of Gastownians and tourists and ne'er-do-wells...just be prepared to be asked for spare change and/or smokes often.
    Love it.

Located at the East end of Water St.  This place has a wonderful atmosphere!  The decor is big windows, brick walls, wooden floors, dark tables and chairs.  It has subtle but rich in texture style.

To me this is a place for beer.  I like to try new things here, but sometimes end up with an old favorite like Sol.  There was one occasion I tried their Wreck Beach cocktail, and I was rather impressed.

If beer is your fuel then this is the place to get your tank topped off. Outdoor seating can be interesting since you get to take in the intriguing weirdness of Gastown's various "residents" (they're mostly nice though, not belligerent like some of the folks can be in San Francisco), but dining inside can be just as good because the place is set up pretty well.

The beer selection here is phenomenal and the food you can get along with it is pretty slamming too. Especially try the cheese fondue with the Pilsner Urquel. Man, the Czech really know how to brew a brew.

If you can, dine along the counter on the second floor. It gives you an overhead view of the entire joint and you can scope people coming in.

Ugh. I expected so much more than what I experienced here.

I've heard so many good things about Six Acres that finally on Wednesday afternoon a friend and I decided to head down.

We had no problem getting seated right away because it was pretty dead inside.

For my drink I ordered Zubrowka which tasted just like slightly boozey apple juice. I think it was, actually. Apple juice, bison grass vodka and some other things. It was pretty good (if you're a fan of apple juice!).

Next I had the Asparagus. This was really really tasty, but quite small for over $6. There were no more than 6 spears on the plate. $1 per spear? Kind of ridiculous. The sauce was great. It was some kind of buttery vinaigrette. The flavour was a nice and sharp. The roasted almond slices were a great touch. I kept scooping them all up with my fork long after I finished my asparagus.

Since I've been on a bit of a brie kick, I decided to test out the baked brie at Six Acres. I was so excited for this. Unfortunately it was one of the biggest disappointments ever. The minute our server placed it on the table in front of me, I smelled eggs. My brie.. smelled.. like egg salad that had been sitting out for too long. Disgusting. That was my first turn off and the first bad sign. The second was the complete lack of any kind of flavour whatsoever when I had a bite. WTF!? And the pear + vanilla bean jelly? Not a jelly at all. It was chunks of pear in a little bowl that tasted like overly spiced pie filling. It completely over powered the brie (not that it was difficult), so I may as well have been eating pie on bread, since the flavour of the brie was nonexistant. It was also just over $10. What a waste... not even filling either.

This didn't happen with mine thankfully, but my friend's order of baked brie was so runny she could barely get it on her bread. It was almost liquidy. How do you mess brie up that badly?

We left feeling disappointed, hungry, and broke. Six Acres is not worth the money.

At least the bread tasted good.

Definitely one of the best places in Gastown to have a drink. Cosy atmosphere, nice selection of bottled beer and a good range of grazing food as well. It is not a huge place so you can expect a wait if you don't get in early.

The service is so so with a few "I hate my job" looks from staff at times. The crowd is a pretty good mix and that adds to the relaxed atmosphere. It is great to have a place with decent food and drink where you can feel at home.

Six Acres is a great place.
The atmosphere in here is cool and the beer list is incredible, but I wanna talk about the the 'Sliders' I had there once.

I ordered the 'Sliders' (Three mini burgers) just on a whim; I was there to drink but needed some food to fill my belly and burgers are usually a safe bet. Quickly my priorities switched from drinking to planning my life around these three bundles of heaven. They looked normal - three bite-sizeish burgers with cheese, onions (turned out to be fennel), and some mustard (turned out to be ailoi), but they were nothing short of the best burgers I have ever eaten.

    (From the menu:)
    Black Truffle Sliders  8.75
three beef & black truffle mini burgers served with a chipotle
aioli, melted monterey jack cheese & grilled fennel

They were very rich, flavourful, juicy, and onctuously smooth. I made everyone I was with try them - we all loved them.

I haven't had a chance to go back to Six Acres since but they have lived in my dreams since.

Looking for a chill night, global beers and an awesome atmosphere? Look no further than Six Acres.

I'll start by saying that I've never had any of the food at Six Acres, but I've been meaning to for the past few visits. Regardless, the drinks are the reason why this place is always so busy.

    Pro's:
    - Awesome atmosphere (music isn't too loud, servers never rush you and their menu is printed on children books!)
    - Beers. I could never have imagined the amount of different kinds of beers that were made all over the world.
    - Presentation. Every beer that is ordered is brought to you in the bottle with the correct glass that it should be poured into.

    Con's:
    - Can't think of any.

If you're looking for a fun night out, I can't recommend this place enough. They've got a beer for everyone and the prices start at $5'ish and go to around $20 per bottle.

    Overall, awesome place.

Menu (drink & food) is hit or miss.  Outdoor seating is great.  And best of all, it's affordable.  Pick wisely..

Like the 80's TV tunes in the bathroom.

So my style! Dark wood, dim lighting, books, board games... a place where gathering and hanging out is encouraged. This charming restaurant was recommended by a woman in a store as her favorite neighborhood spot to have a cocktail and she sent us in the right direction. I love this two-story spot and I especially liked their menu presentation - hollowed out book covers with the menu stitched in with a table of contents too! It set the tone for a simple dish of hummus and olives and a nice glass of wine while watching the snow dump outside.
Imagine literary people, creative juices and stimulating conversation being rampant in this quiet, yet comfortable and energizing space.
