Most amazing steak dinner we've ever had. Great atmosphere, good service, and more food than you can eat!

Sadly, I need to update my review on Sir Scott's Oasis due to my past three experiences there, which were less than satisfactory. I went there again last night and I've never seen the service so bad,, the bathroom so FILTHY and the food so mediocre.
First off, it took about ten minutes from the time I sat down at the nearly empty bar for the bartender to ask for my drink order. During that time, several grumpy servers walked by, slamming dirty plates on the bar in front of me and looking as if they'd just been spat on. One of them, when asked by one of the patrons how she was doing today, her response was "just working HERE all the time." sneering, rolling her eyes and looking disgusted, as if it was a prison.
Finally, the bartender came to take my food order. Wanting to skip the full dinner, I ordered just a piece of prime rib and some prawns. No salad, no bread, no potato, etc. The prime rib was smothered in "gravy" and tough, the prawns tasted like they came out of the freezer and it took over an hour to get my plate of food. I couldn't believe how long it took just to get a plate of cold prawns and to slice a hunk of meat from an already cooked prime rib!
The ladies room had an overflowing trash can, with tissues and paper towels cascading out over the floor. The stalls were filthy as was the sink.
I'm saddened to see this place going downhill. I really believe it's the service staff that needs to be replaced and/or re-trained. They definitely need an attitude adjustment..... one way or the other. Nobody wants to see grumpy servers acting the way they do at the Oasis.
(The bartender was nice, though!)1 Previous Review: Show all »

My GF and I were visiting Boseman and ate at Sir Scotts with a friend who lives in town here in Manhattan. He's been a regular here for years and wanted to take us to this "authentic" Montana establishment. I'm glad he brought us here. It's certainly a no-frills type of a place. It's not cheap, but you get an incredible amount of food. The shrimp was great and the NY Strip I had was excellent. The service was very friendly as well. We really enjoyed our dinner here, one of the highlights of our trip.

as for the food, do yourself a favor and get the steak and prawns for christ sake! the garlic butter for the prawns makes is the perfect match to go hand in hand with your potato and steak. Hell, I even take that garlic butter and dump on the potato. Every time that I've been there, the steaks have been cooked exactly as ordered and the flavor is fresh and nice as well as the meat tender. For the Bozeman area, this is one of the more expensive places unless you go to the PorterHouse. Not sure which is better since I've eaten at sir scotts for years now.
the decor...its pretty outdated. Im not sure I want to say rustic but the architect in me says go ahead bc of the wood finishing. however, those tables and chairs are just the absolute the worst!!! they really play the place down in a strange way. it really looks like some old diners left over tables and chairs and feels like it too. the weirdness comes in the price and how really I hate being around kids in places like that, but oddly enough, its ok there (well slightly bc i just hate kids in general lol).
I dont know, but i will say it is the best steak house Ive probably ever been too. -

Bozeman, MT
This place is packed to the rafters (yes, there are actual rafters) every night, for good reason. The steak was without a doubt the best I've had outside Argentina, including those overpriced places in the city (I'm looking at you, Ruth's Chris.)
The antipasti, soup, salad, and sides were right out of Mad Men but who cares. Be warned: don't order a super-sized cut unless you're planning on turning into the Incredible Hulk later on. And get there before 6pm, or make reservations 2-3 weeks in advance or they will politely turn you away, even if you're Jane flippin' Fonda. -

I really don't understand the hype surrounding this place. I've never had anything good here and, unfortunately, I've tried a lot of their menu. Their prime rib was bad in particular. It was swimming in grease and gravy, overcooked and didn't have much flavor. For the life of me, I have no idea why this place is still open.
Overall, I've found it overpriced with a dive bar-esque atmosphere. For your money, you're much better off at the Willow Creek Cafe or the Land of Magic. -

My dad recommended this place to me over a year ago, and I've been trying to find a way to get there ever since. I finally succeeded last night.
The place was packed, and the hostess appeared to be a bit frazzled.. Since I was alone, I got a seat in the bar and dodged waiting for a table. Sitting in the bar gave me a bit of an inside look into the lives of the staff, as they were fairly open about...whatever...as if I wasn't there. It was sort of entertaining.
So, since it was available I had to have the prime rib. Mine was a very good cut, tender, with an appropriate amount of fat. It was prepared perfectly. The entire steak was doused in a moderately thick gravy, which seemed to be an au jus base. Frankly, I think the gravy would have been better utilized on the potato. Not that it was bad, but it seems like the bulk of the flavor came from the sauce.
Fortunately, it worked. The flavor was good, if not where it should have been. -

Still amazing after all these years. I went here twice in recent weeks. Both the NY strip and pork chops were excellent. The cracker, veggie, and soup courses are great. The salad is pretty boring.

The Oasis is quite possibly the home of the best steaks served in the United States. There is little chance that you'll go home feeling hungry, as the average plate weighs as much as Wilford Brimley's mustache.
My wife and I had our wedding reception here and had a great experience. Although there is seafood on the menu as well, vegetarian's might consider dining elsewhere. -

$20 gets you the following:
Baked potato, dinner salad, broccoli soup, and a 14 oz. tenderloin raised across the railroad tracks from this bar. Fresh Montana beef is always delicious, and at an unbeatable price in a casual environment it gets no better in the Manhattan of the West. -

Los Angeles, CA
Myself and my best friend were driving across country from Chicago to Los Angeles and specifically came all the way up to Manhattan, MT because we had heard and read that Sir Scott's is the best that there is. And OH MY GOD, did it not disappoint.
Both of us had been to some of the most revered steakhouses in the country (from Chicago, New York, and even Vegas) and Sir Scott's absolutely takes its place as one of the best in the entire nation. Everything from the mom and pop road side atmosphere to the all-inclusive four course meal, this place is as good as it gets.
The meat is all locally home grown and it pays off. UNREAL. It is absolutely some of the freshest, juiciest meat you'll ever find. Period. Both of our cuts were cooked to perfection and served in behemoth portions. All for under $25 bucks! I would recommend ANYONE making the biggest of detours to come up here and experience something that is so homegrown American, it deserves its own monument. -

Interesting place...
Since we are in Montana, land of beef, I was craving a great steak. I did some research and decided this was the place to be. We had a full day of Montana and called to make sure they were open late. They closed at 10, and we got there at 9:30. The hostess and waitress had a fight right in front of us about where we were to be seated and some other issue, not sure what. To be honest, I felt like we were not quite welcome...
Anyway, we were seated right next to the open kitchen door, which was interesting. This place is very old school - nothing upscale at all, mismatched cheap chairs and cheesy tables, old wrinkled menus - these are not complaints, just objective observances. It was amusing, actually, that the best steak place in town was so low-brow.
The prices were surprisingly good, and the meal is straight from the 50's - your steak (or whatever you order) comes with a list of other stuff: relish tray (!), cracker basket and butter, soup of the day, salad, potato of choice (baked, fries or jo-jo), and garlic cheese toast, as well as a chocolate sundae and coffee.
The steaks are HUGE - the smallest is 8 ounces, but they average around 20. I got the 14 ounce tenderloin thinking I would take some of it home with me - AS IF! That steak was delicious! I was really full, but I would have finished it if my stomach exploded. i mistakenly asked for medium rather than medium rare, but it didn't matter - it rocked! I don't know how they season them, or what they do, but seriously - best steak I have had in a long time.
My dinner companions got a pork chop and the "broasted" (which turned out to mean fried) chicken. Everyone was very happy with their meals.
The atmosphere is - interesting. More like a diner than fine dining. This is definitely a small town local restaurant with staff drama and no pretension. Good food, served by good people. For me, the experience is part of it, not just the food - this experience was so odd, I'm not sure how to qualify it. Not negative, just odd. Fantastic food, good time, fun evening, a little like being transported back in time, somewhat unusual staff interactions, but real people who didn't play at being anything else. A place to relax and just eat. Nice. We'd go back.
Fantastic steak - exactly what I wanted. -

Don't let the looks fool you, this is the best steak anywhere. I travel for a living and I've eaten at some pretty expensive steak houses and none come close to this good. I went in the middle of the week and the place was packed. The bone in ribeye I had was huge and melted in my mouth. It was ridiculously cheap for what you get- I think I paid under $40 with tip and that included an import beer! If you are anywhere near Bozeman and aren't a vegetarian you HAVE to eat here.

This place was amazing. We were a large party so we knew what to expect. Its wonderful food and the service was great. We had little kids in the party and the menu fit their needs. The beef was some of the best that I have ever had. Your meal comes with soup and salad ( home dressing) then two choice of sides. I shared the bone in rib eye and didn't leave hungry. I will recommend this place and try my hardest to return. Its a true jew in a field of a small town. We brought in our own wine and the corkage fee was $5, that's like free.

Las Vegas, NV
From this tiny little town and just went back for dinner here for the first time in 15 years. Food was still amazing and the finger steaks were better than I remembered. You can't beat the price especially after I have grown used to las Vegas and So Cal. prices for half the food. However the waitresses could use a standard uniform and maybe leave the stained t shirts at home. I will be back and it won't take me 15 years to go. If you get within 50 miles of Manhattan try to make a stop at Sir Scott's Oasis worth the experience in every way.

Ummm, Steak fingers!! They are amazing! It tends to get really crowded so eating in the bar is the only way to go. The steak here is some of the best I've ever had.

Overall, good steaks for a good value. I called ahead for our dinner party of 7. They set us up in a back room. Our server provided solid service. Only thing I would change would be to not order the Jo-Joes (deep-fried, sliced potatoes).
