Disclaimer: I've never bought a pair of shoes here.

It's not that I've attempted to and failed, I just never made it in to look around for a pair.

That aside, the people at this store are amazing, and I'd like to thank each and every one of them.

You see.... Soulmates helped my brother propose to his fiancee. They allowed him to put a pair of pink Converse All-Stars (which he didn't even buy from them) in their storefront window, a pair that featured the words "Molly, marry me" hand-written on them. They allowed me to come in 2 hours prior to take pictures, and even did a fake set-up, so that we could get the element just right. They took extra special care of the shoes, made sure everything about the proposal on their end was just right, anxiously awaited and huddled out of sight from the street as my brother pointed out the pink shoes, and cheered and clapped as my brother got up from his knee to hug to his future wife on Halsted Street.

Thank you, Solemates, for helping to make my brother's special moment with his own soulmate unforgettable.

With the whole "sneakerhead  movement" in full swing, I think that this was a place that was definitely needed in the Chicago area.  I spent a lot of time in the New England area, and was always disappointed that there was no place for me to get hot items for women back in Chicago.

A place for women like myself who have been interested, or even halfway obsessed with sneakers since elementary school, or even those who are new to the game and want to get some fresh items.

A "streetwear" type of boutique with a twist - sneakers on consignment, fresh designers, etc.

I say check it out for yourself.

So, my then boyfriend (now husband) was on this 2 year long mission to find the Queen of Hearts Dunks. Why do I know the name of these shoes? Because of the 2 year long mission.

Anyway, we have hit up every sneaker store in the city, the reputable ones online and every sneaker store in every other city we traveled to.  Nothing.  One day, we are walking around Lincoln Park and we stumbled across Solemates.

In we go, and what do we see?! The sneakers! Who knew?!  Not only that, we saw August (one of the owners we knew from another store) and her husband.

Since then, we've gone in, bought t-shirts and more sneakers and my husband even sold a pair.  They have a different selection every time we go. Their sneakers change, the clothing they carry changes, and they have Nooka watches and different accessories every time.

What I like about August and Brian is that they seem to really hand pick each and every item they carry. They are thoughtful in their decisions and don't ride the wave of what brand is hot but at the same time manage to carry things that are.

I love to promote stores owned by great people that carry great merchandise, and this is one of them. Stop by, take a look around, and you'll probably end up going home with something you'll love.

Great selection of kicks.  5-Stars because of consignment and taking 15% which is fair.

Maybe the store could be laid out a little better, but I realize it's hard to display ALLLL those shoes in that space.  Maybe they're using it the best they can.  Either way, I was more impressed walking into this spot than FlightClub LA last time I went (April 08).

I went to Solemates yesterday afternoon looking for a Nooka watch and to check out their shoe stock. I was greeted by an enthusiastic employee who knew his stuff about both Nooka and the Nike SB's I was wearing. The owner (I think) was there as well, but she was being interviewed/discussing a business deal on the couch in front. The selection of shoes is pretty good -- there are many Nike SB's you probably won't find anywhere else in the city, but only in select sizes -- mostly 9 or 10. As a 12 there wasn't much in my size, but hey, can't win 'em all. They also had the usual selection of "streetwear" tees (Alife Rivington, etc), but nothing along the Kidrobot style I was hoping for.

Note: they don't get new SB's in stock, but they have consignment i.e. Flightclub NYC.

Overall a pretty good store, and I'll be going back every now and again to check stock. You can also see what they've got on their blog, but it's not the easiest to navigate.

the power of web2.0 - stumbled across via twitter - then linked to their site. had an early business meeting off of irving park & ravenswood. after the meeting, decided to check this place out, do a little looking around, which turned to purchase. the owners who were both in at the time were phenomenal in the service (helpful + friendly).

the clothes are on-point. i felt as if i could shop here all the time (felt indeed will turn into WILL). i did not feel like if i put on a shirt it could turn into a cape, or large garbage bag. (ie. too big/baggy).

i hope they keep the guest/customer/client service. and yes, of course the hand-picked clothes + sneakers + other goodness.

I got this store as a boutique recommendation from Jason at A. Okay. He told us that if we were looking for cool shoe stores, boutiques, and such, that we should check out solemates. When I walked in with my friend we were instantly impressed by the store and its presentation of the shoes. We said "hi" for our friend Jason, to Brian, one of the very nice people that works there. He explained the deals that were available, such as buy one shirt get another half off (incredible for the shirts they have there). He discussed other interesting shoe stores around the area, photography, and his personal favorite stores. He was very nice and the selection in the store is fantastic. All in all it is a must see for sneaker heads.

Cute store with a limited collection of graphic tees as well as cute outfits for the ladies.  Don't forget to check out their sales bins where items that were originally $90+ are now at $10 and $20.  They also have a sale going on which most of the items are at 50% off.  The employees are quite friendly, and lets you mosey around.  There's a dressing room at the back to try on your goodies.  I got an awesome and a unique hooded vest for $20.  Need I say more?
