Very peculiar place... kind of like eating at your grandma's house, if your grandma is a hoarder. But don't let that detract from the personal, attentive service from the owners, Rose (who cooked for me some wonderful pancakes) and Pat (who spent most of his time quietly watching TV in the back, periodically coming out to provide us with souvenirs and asking us to sign the guestbook). I would definitely return.

I had high hopes for Simon's News Stand. Oldest continuously open restaurant in the Niagara Falls, this place is a stables of the area. Unfortunately, there are time when "old" does not mean "awesome", "a find" or "character". There are times when "old" just means "creepy".
My girlfriend and I walked into the place at 1PM on a Saturday. There was absolutely nobody in except the owner and his cook/waitress, a 30-yo blond lady who clearly had one long morning serving and cooking breakfast. We ordered from the menu, and got our meals. Typical diner food, and it tasted just as expected.
The place was covered with old stuff. Books about our national heroes that dated from the 40s, Mickey Mouse decorations that may have been just as old, and tons of random docks around the shelves. Sounds cool? It might have been if it hadn't been stuffed away around tons of what seemed to be pure junk. Yeah, at some point even this restaurant looked more like it should be on History's American Pickers rather than serving food.
Don't think it's worth an extra trip, but if you're in the area and feel like contributing to a local business, give it a try. Just don't expect too much. -

Great simple breakfast, serve yourself coffee and a ton to look at. What's not to like?
