This is a typcial Kimpton bait-and-switch Happy Hour with terrible service and a hip-looking interior with uncomfortable seating.

The Happy Hour that everyone raves about (why?) featured a very young Chilean cabernet  for $5 a glass. Hardly a bargain.

The seating along the wall reminds me of my father's boat back in the 70's: horrible, back-breaking. The chairs are similar. Kimpton is great at looking good but delivering uncomfort!

The Happy Hour food was good (had the fries and popcorn which everyone seems to have). Thing is, they basically offer the same menu items for HH then cut the portion and price in half. Ummmm. I don't get it. Seems like a dumb thing to do. No real "specials" just order the regular shrimp but instead of three you get one for two dollars. Ummmm??? Again, what's the point.

The best is this: I looked at my watch and it was five minutes to 7PM (time when HH ends). We tried to call the waitress over. She arrived promptly six minutes later and we ordered another round of HH wine. She said HH was over, that according to the computer it was over, and that my watch was wrong. Then she had the balls to say to me, and I quote, "YOU HAD PLENTY AT FIVE A GLASS."  HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I was with a business associate and was kind of stunned! I had TWO glasses of red wine over the course of almost two hours which in my mind doesn't equate with PLENTY!

I've had similar HORRIBLE service at other Kimpton bars in NYC. I've heard from bartenders that it's the constant staff turnover and manger's constantly changing things around in the restaurant/bars.

In the end, the ONLY reason to go to Silverleaf is the decent (quiet) location south of GCT. Otherwise you can go elsewhere to be abused by a waitress and get better quality Happy Hour vino!

So close to exactly what I was looking for.

Location wise, it is difficult to get any better. Just minutes (walking) from Grand Central, getting here is easy and fast, and one can avoid all the tourists, even if it is part of the 70 Park Ave Hotel.

As far as the ambiance - don't let the name fool you. While it does meet the definition of a tavern, I would call it atypical as it has a very modern and chic feel to it. From the sleek wood panel floors, the billiards table and ample seating (plenty for couples and groups alike), the venue provides a laid back and comfortable atmosphere with a high-end lounge look. We went on a Friday, and even at its peak traffic, everyone was able to be sat.

The happy hour drink specials are pretty amazing, given the nature of the venue. Selections include $6 cocktails, $5 wines, $4 beers. Service was much better than more popular bars, simply for the ratio of servers to patrons if nothing else.

The only downside is the food. Yes the food is delicious, but the prices are high and the portions are small. $13 for 8 wings? ~$18 for 3 kobe sliders? Sure they may have some cheap appetizers (gourmet fries and popcorn), but I'm a growing boy needing my protein.

    (^_^) Atmosphere
    (^_^) Location
    (^_^) Service
    (^_^) Drink Specials
    (T_T) Food bang for buck

Glad I came. The venue almost has it all. I would not recommend coming here for dinner, and I can't comment on the night scene, but it is definitely a great place for drinks, whether it is for a date or a group of friends and I can see myself returning soon (after researching nearby food venues).

    Really good happy hour here!!!

The space is really small so if you want a seat you should get there early.  There were about 8 seats at the bar and like 4 two-seater tables.  I'm not sure if you can order from the regular seating area, but when we got to the restaurant around 6 the whole place was packed already.

I think their TRUFFLE FRIES were the highlight of my night! It was so good we went back for a second order!!!  Apps cost about $2-$5, and our well drinks were like $5 each.  Everything was pretty reasonably priced and the location was a block away from our hotel [The Morgan].

The atmosphere was pretty chill.  Dim lighting, low-noise level.  The only thing that was irritating was the service.  The service was pretty slow and it took a long time to get our ONE order and our drinks.

The next time I'm staying in Manhattan I will DEFINITELY hit this place up again! Great deals, low-key, and delicious!!!! YUMMMY!

The selection of bites and cheap drinks make this happy hour one of the best in Midtown.

From 5-7pm you can get $4 beers, $5 wine / well drinks, and $6 cocktails. More unique and significant is the happy hour food selection with $2-$4 truffle fries (excellent!), porcini popcorn, daily soup, olives, hummus, etc.

They have booths and tables with ample seating and luckily don't just have the special happy hour selections at the bar. Our group of ten was able to order from the booth. The space is large enough that it doesn't get jam packed like other places. I'd recommend coming with a group or with just a friend or two.

One thing to note is the bathroom which takes a bit of manuevering to find. You have to go through the lobby of the hotel (at that point I didn't even know the bar was attached to a hotel) and downstairs to hunt around for it.

My homegirls and I stopped into Silverleaf Tavern after searching through Yelp for a happy hour spot that was close by.  We had spent much of the day touring with an out-of-towner and needed a nice, relaxing break before heading home to New Jersey. Upon entering, we thought Silverleaf had a great ambiance and relaxed atmosphere.  We slipped into the seating area opposite the bar and perused the available menus (we knew from the reviews that the truffle fries should not be overlooked...)

I literally had the WORST service experience of my life at Silverleaf Tavern. It began with our server's shoddy directions of how to get to the bathroom.  If I followed the ones she gave me (which I did at first) I would have ended up in a hotel lobby's closet.  My party and I tried so hard to find the good in our server, but our efforts proved futile.  This girl was stressed out and super jumpy.  She wouldn't stick around long enough to actually take your entire order. It's like you would open your mouth to say what you wanted to get and she'd turn around faster than a figure skater on fire. I just couldn't understand why - there weren't even that many people in the place! She was the exact same way with the people around us and I could sense their frustration too.   I was a little upset that my friend commented to me that she received a dirty wine glass, which is a huge no-no in my book.  Our server eventually took our order, but we had to spit it out fast enough before she was back on the run.

Things went from bad to worse when she dropped our check off at our table and .3 seconds later, returned to snatch it off the table before we could even open the goddamn thing. As she went over to the computer, we were all sitting there COMPLETELY bewildered. It was probably one of the most awkward experiences in my life. If she came back with it within a reasonable amount of time and offered an apology for being so hasty, I would have shrugged it off.  However when she DID return sans our unpaid tab, we had to tell her what she did and pile on even more awkwardness.

I'll end my review favorably and say that the happy hour food (we had the hummus, duck taquitos and multiple orders of the delish truffle fries) was amazing. However my service experience was so ridiculously awkward, I would never go back.

I'm writing this as a restaurant review and not a bar review. For that you can read most of the others. The Silverleaf is part of the 70 Park Hotel, a Kimpton Hotel. Some of the best meals I've had over the last few years have been at restaurants in Kimptons (George in DC and Palomar in SFO} this is not one of them!

As a restaurant this place sucks. It might be a chic bar as most Kimpton bars are but the food leaves a lot to be desired. This especially surprises me as it has a Zagat 21 which isn't too shabby. Maybe they were rating the bar.

I came in on a snowy night, escaping from the storm and not wanting to leave the hotel. I've had breakfast here before but this was the first chance at dinner. I was surprised at the light menu... bar food ... but OK bar food can be good. I wasn't whipped into a frenzy. I started with a bowl of the soup of the day, a mushroom bisque. It was good with a nice flavoring of the fresh tarragon. Not bad except for the chunks of tarragon stems that I had to keep disposing of. The crab cakes had a good chipotle tartar sauce for dipping. The cakes them selves would have been better if bought at the frozen food section of Trader Joe's and the accompanying seaweed salad may have been bought at the sushi section of any supermarket. They had neither quality or quantity, which can often make up for lack of the latter.

Wines were good but over priced, the layout is weird, and the service was so so. Why go back unless you're stuck in a blizzard or you're just going for the bar.

I would actually give 4.5 stars for the ambiance of the bar - great decor and very chill/laid back atmosphere, which is great if you're looking for a change from the typical after-work bars. That being said, here are my gripes:
    1) Our waiter was extremely stuck-up - actually bordering on rude. We got there at 6:45 and happy hour ended at 7, but since we were ignored for 15 min, missed all the happy hour specials. When I informed him that we had been waiting since 6:45 and would like to order off the happy hour menu, he told me that the "computers were all locked up" and there was nothing he could do. Then, when my friend explained that her seltzer water was completely flat, he basically said - "oh, that's too bad," and walked away.
    2) Bathroom is inside the hotel, which is just weird to me.
    3) Actual drink selection is not great - I love beer, and I think there were 5 total on the menu.

basically - I would try this place again, if I got here early enough for the happy hour (read: probably by 6:30 so the "computers are still open," since otherwise beers were $7-8 for bottles, and nothing on tap) AND sat as far away from that server's section as possible.

Great decor, delicious truffle fries, decent service and crappy happy hour.   I come to happy hour for quality drinks and food at reduced prices. Our margaritas might as well have been called water.  Our happy hour crab cake was the size of a quarter.  No thanks.  I will only return if this place puts more happy in the hour.  I've had way better.

Cozy little lounge.  Larger in the back.

    Nice cushy bar stools.

The best deal here is their happy hour from 5 to 7pm.

$5 well drinks, and decent wines.

But the apps are ample and ONLY $2.

I stopped in tonight after work, had a glass of red, a nice size bowl of hummus with toasted and warm pita bread, and a nice, triple size remken size bowl of chili,  all for under $10 before tip, in a really nice environment

This place is a keeper for Tuesday - Thursday evenings.

First of all, ambiance is pretty posh for a casual sports bar.  It's very comfortable, clean, and a great place for professionals working nearby for a drink after work. It's a place that one can even discuss light business related matters over a beer or two.

The happy hour specials, which last till 7pm, are great!  $2 for all appetizers, which are pretty decent, and $5 drinks. What a steal!

Service is slightly slow, but still very friendly.

Above all, they have wonderful live jazz, which is pretty soothing. Apparently, there is a guitar/vocals duo that performs Tues-Thurs.

Away from the bar, there are seats towards the back, which have tables of all sizes - large ones to  seat 10 people or so to smaller ones for more intimate parties.  My friend and I joined a happy hour that was taking place and enjoyed more bar food, post 8pm!

Great unpretentious place to stop by near Grand Central Station for post-work festivities. I'd love to come back.

Great deal for swankified happy hour gem in the otherwise bro-tastic Murray Hill. $5 chardo and $3 truffle fries cannot be beat. $2 porcini popcorn is rich, but also good. Skip the crab cake which puts the mini in miniature like whoa. Keep eyes peeled for the well dressed banker types, or else sneak away to the comfy booths in the back and play some pool.

Do not plan an event here!

My graduate school had an event here recently, and the organizers were told we'd have a space for a speaker panel, but ultimately, we lined chairs up against the bar and had an odd seating (standing) arrangement. Furthermore, we were only given a 30 minute slot for the panel because otherwise there was live music, another thing that was not stated previously. To top things off, while food was ordered at 5:30pm, it came out very late, including an odd cheese plate that was literally large chunks of cheese and not an easy way to cut them.

Maybe if I hadn't come here for an event I would have liked it more, but I was sorely disappointed by the space as a venue for an event.

The $15 cocktails are Tastee but $15?
I  had the Roebling (i guess named after the engineer of the brooklyn bridge) and if it wasn't $15, I would have had 6 more. But I just couldn't fathom spending $90 getting wasted, so I left.

The food menu is more apps than dinner, but this would be a good place if you just need a fancy snack.

I don't know, I just don't see myself going back here because I like to have more than 1 drink and I like to eat.. A LOT.

Rich Models would love it here though.

After leaving Chill Lounge and being told all the seats are reserved now (right, in an empty lounge), my friend and I needed a place to grab a drink.  Lo and behold, we spotted Silverleaf Tavern, which is inside the 70 Park Avenue Hotel.  Now, here's where this review gets good.

Picture a lounge nearly empty with icy cold air conditioning.  This same lounge has $5 drink specials and $2 small plates.  For this neighborhood, this my friends, is a steal.  The happy hour is from 5-7 and I left Silverleaf feeling very contented.

The bathrooms are nice, but you do have to go through the service entrance of the hotel and past some storage areas to get to them.  Atmosphere was slightly older crowd, mixed with tourist.  But if you needed a place to have a drink, a snack and meet with your friends where you could actually hear the conversation, Silverleaf is an excellent location.

PS -- They also have two Wii consoles set up with large screens, if you are inclined.

My review is purely based on their Happy Hour (mon-fri from 5-7pm).

Walking down Park Avenue in Midtown during a work assignment, I found this place attached to the 70 Park Avenue hotel. The $5 drinks and $2 bits sign in the windows intrigued me, mainly because those are prices you never find in this part of the city at a decent place.

Inside the atmosphere is quite nice. There are tables with chairs and love seats around them for a group to sit after work and enjoy a cocktail (or 3, in my case). There are tables set up for 2 for an intimate evening beverage. There are also several large booths for more groups. It's a really nice, clean environment, and doesn't seem to get very crowded. The staff is, however, very inattentive but I blame this on the lack of people working and the amount of people constantly ordering their $5 drinks and $2 "bites". These "bites", are very small, purely for picking-prior-to-dinner, but are nonetheless perfect to enjoy with your cosmo (avoid the classic martini..it tasted like straight-up Smirnoff).

The only annoying factor with this location, aside from the difficulty of ordering a drink when the waiters are all over the place, is the fact because they're doing some sort of construction so you have to use the hotel bathrooms...which are a trek. They're through the lobby of the hotel and down like 2 or 3 floors into the basement of the hotel. They're clean and everything - very nice actually - but it's not my ideal situation strumbling through the lobby of 70 Park Ave at 6pm with all of the guests checking in, watching me struggle with the elevator while my bladder is about to burst.

Come here for happy hour- it is legit, cheap, and fulfilling. Pool table is a nice touch.

    DO NOT come here if:
    1. You have a big group. Service was SO poor I reported our rude waitress to the manager. He verbally seemed disappointed in her behavior (she threw the check at us and said you can finish your drinks at the bar. This was after not clearing any of our glasses or plates in our 2 1/2 hours there, and not taking any drink orders in over 20 minutes- it was even AFTER happy hour at this point and we were looking to spend more money). The manager couldn't have cared that badly because he never came out to check on her service, never came out to help, and never offered our group of 10 any sort of compensation for her shittiness.

    2. You get hot easily. It was an exceptionally muggy, hot day, and the room was very damp and not cool at all.

    3. It isn't happy hour. While the menu looked good, a fruit plate for $12?? My Amstel Light was $8- fair, I suppose. The house wine was $15 a glass-no cool.

    4. You want to make reservations. I left three messages on the phone number listed on their website, but the phone never rang; it was only a recording and a beep at the end. I was trying to make reservations, but no one answered, no one called back. The b$$tch stated above knew nothing of it, and couldn't have been more rude when I told her we had a large group coming.

    5. You need to go to the bathroom often. Read everyone else's reviews- our friends were lost for days.

Big open space, moreso than you'd assume from the outside. Leading in from the hotel there, the staff is quiet and unobtrusive, and they serve a decent drink (albeit mildly expensive for the size).

Decor is dark, and seating curves around to a second bar in the back.

I'll stop by here for food another time.

Review for Happy Hour only M-F 5-7pm.

This might have been 4 stars if the service was better.  Pretty good happy hour deals.  $5 well drinks (there's about 5 you can select from), $5 glasses of wine (select from either a red or a white), $4 beer (just your standard bottled beer - 3 selections).  Then there's the $2 bites which include mixed nuts, olives, hummus, fries, prosciutto, tomato & mozzarella and i think one or two other items.  We only tried the hummus and the fries.  Eh on the hummus.  The fries were good though!

Cute place, not too full.  Good place to meet a friend after work.  For the price, location, and ambiance, I'd come back again.

Heads up, Yelpers - they've changed the menu.  And not for the better.

The Silverleaf is the hotel restaurant for the 70 Park Hotel, which is a Kimpton property - and for a Kimpton property, the restaurant sorely disappoints.  The menu is overpriced greasy appetizers and unimaginative fare (ooh, a grilled chicken caesar salad....that wows me about as much as vanilla ice cream.)

The redeeming features of the menu are the warm olives and the wine selection, but that's about it.  If you just want a nibble, this might not be a bad place to go, but it's not a place one would expect to find a good meal.  With many more good options just a few blocks up on 40th and 42nd Sts, I say walk on by until they change the menu for the better.

Guys- this is an ideal spot for a first date.

So you've met someone on plentyofish or match and you're interested in this person.  But, as we know, we must choose the meeting point wisely both from a first impression and $-perspective.

Well, Silverleaf meets both of those criteria with flying colors.

The place is very classy as it's the hotel bar for 70 Park Ave Hotel.  Roger Federer stayed in this hotel for several years when he played the US Open!  The decor is tasteful.  The back area is perfect for birthdays (my friend has celebrated his bday here twice) and the seating area towards the back give you a sense of privacy..  again, perfect for a date.  On certain nights, they have free live jazz which you just cannot beat.

In terms of $, the M-F Happy Hour is spectacular.  SilverLeaf was probably the last to offer some type of "recession special" last year but I'm glad they got on the bandwagon.  Everyone else (other classy places) was doing it so they figured they didn't want to lose too much business from not having happy hour specials.  They have $2 apps and $5 drinks, including martinis.  Perfect for a date when you can easily go broke from taking other people out.

They're currently going through renovations in the front half (facing Park Ave where the front bar is located) so the place is not in its normal grand state.  But nonetheless, it's fine and the place is quite crowded most days after work.

My neighbor loves this place and raves about SilverLeaf constantly.

In looking for a happy hour near Grand Central, I am so glad I stumbled upon this place.  A friend and I went and we were able to grab one of the last seats in the place.  The staff was attentive, the service was quick and they were very friendly, even when trying to get people not to sit in a particular area that was roped off for a party.

Happy hour was pretty good.  Between my friend and I, we got two drinks a piece (vodka/ginger ale and margaritas), fries with spicy ketchup and pita bread with hummus.  Less than $15 a person, tip included, which I think is pretty darn good for the location.

The decor is simple but very classy and elegant.  I don't do classy very often, if I'm hitting up happy hour it's at a beer bar or something else. Silverleaf Tavern made me feel sophisticated, so 5 stars from me!

A friend of mine does event-planning for Bailey House, and they had a benefit event tonight at Silverleaf Tavern....I finally understand the meaning of the word opulance. Star of the night were the POM Red Ribbon Martinis (a martini made with POM juice, grapefruit and wine), and special mention to absolutely delectable portabello dumplings. Yes, another night, another evening of martinis and fried tapas...I wonder if there's a 12-step program for this.

This is a really classy place that serves up $2 appetizers and $5 cocktails during happy hour WITH live jazz music. That is pretty damn cool. The place has a nice atmosphere, its lowly lit and smells of rich mahogany. The staff are are super cool, and I think they kind of like the fact that we are the youngest of guests. The hummus and warm pita is usually the best appetizer, but I also enjoyed the french fries, olives, and chili appetizers too. They make a mean margarita, and manhattan. Next time I'm going for the Cosmo. try to get a seat right across from where the musicians will perform, it can get noisy in there.

There are not many options in this area, so it's really nice placement. I was quite boring my odering a hamburger with frites, but that is sometimes me. It's a small restaurant maybe 19 tables or so, and offers a bar in the immediate front, full bar. From everyone around me, enjoyment was being had so i would have to concur that if you're in the area it will make  a good option on park avenue south.

The restaurant was really fun, and their use of textures in decorating was unusual (in a good way!). The roasted salmon was delicious, and I had this amazing creme brulee, which I had them brown over twice (there must be a technical term for this!). Yes, I have a weakness for creme brulee. I liked the place, the food was solid, and it seems like it would be great for after-work drinks.

A very pleasant surprise from a place I've passed literally hundreds of times. We were intrigued by the $2 bites we saw advertised. The inside is very cute, dark, and much bigger than I thought. Plus there was great music and a jazz singer too. We settled down in a big cozy booth and got a few drinks. It was a perfect way to spend an hour before meeting friends for dinner.  I'll definitely be back soon.

My bf and I decided to just chill at this lounge near our hotel.  It was a very cozy lounge. It was kind of barren. We kind of like it that way since we just wanted to enjoy the evening to ourselves.

Located in the Park 70 Hotel, this is a modern yet comfortable restaurant in Murray Hill area.  Baked oysters and the brioche / brie french toast were great.  Best part is their wine story:  Three categories ($, $$, $$$) broken down 4 ways:  Sip (a 3-oz. pour), Taste (glass), Discover (bottle), or Drink (bottomless glass).  Essentially, you can have a bottomless glass of wine in their "$" category for $38.  Not a bad deal anywhere, let alone Manhattan.

The food was excellent. Even the bread basket was remarkable, accompanied by a ricotta and garlic spread and a white bean and yellow beet salad in addition to whipped butter. I recommend the goat cheese French toast to start. The mushrooms accompanying this dish were sublime. The hangar steak was good -- tender and flavorful -- although I found the short rib knish to be bland. The venison was very tasty, accompanied by crispy, highly-flavorful spaetzle and maple glazed carrots. A very well balanced dish.
I would highly recommend Silverleaf, and will not hesitate to return.
