Review from Diana L.
I have masterminded a lot of evil late-night plans here, and the restaurant has has masterminded some interesting combinations for their dishes.
I have been here on MANY occasions, mostly for late night eats. I've had macaroni and tuna baked with a cream sauce to unagi on rice with a fried egg to French toast. All are pretty good. The only thing mediocre about this place is the parking and the service, which is almost to be expected.
My friends love the combo specials where you get the pick two or three meat items, and the dish comes with spaghetti or rice and your choice of sauce. I appreciate how some of the dishes come with a drink and soup. The Asian style borsch is yummy; I could drink a whole vat of that stuff.
If you're on a budge and it's late and you're uber hungry, try this place; I'm pretty sure you'll like it.Listed in: Chinese/Taiwanese Tricks and…

One of my fav Honger cafes. Located in the heart of richmond golden village, right beside matsuyama on alexandra rd.
Usually mini set menu available here from opening-6pm and 9-close. Quite the standard.
They have a nice combo meal as well. Choose 2 or 3 meats (8.95 and 11.95 respectively), comes with soup, rice or spaghetti, sauce, hot/cold drink. I find that this place has one of the best combo meals. Their minute steak is actually a steak, not just a thin slice of beef and they are actually capable of cooking it medium rare.
Service is efficient and quick. It's usually the same bunch of waitresses. They do their job well. Friendliness is the same as your standard asian place, they dont go over the top to make you feel like a king/queen, but you definitely wouldnt complain about them. -

* Decent HK cafe *
Perhaps outside of the Vancouver area this would be a 4 star. But Kam Do (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) is just across the street, and much better for my taste.
I started off with the cold HK style milk tea. Served in a plastic glass, the tea was not as strong as like (my guess is they poured hot tea over a lot of ice that melted) and way too sweet for my taste. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
The baked pork chop on rice had a nice layer of cheese on top, but the tomato sauce was a bit bland. The rice itself was a bit too mushy and didn't have any veggies I could find. There was a little bit of egg in it. The pork chop itself was overcooked and the breading was too thick for my liking. Photos: http://www.yelp.ca/biz... and http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
Service was very friendly - but a bit confused as they brought me someone else's curry by mistake and almost didn't believe me when I said I didn't order that. (It was the guy across the way at another table that did).
Ok, I'm being a bit harsh perhaps - but it is in the heart of an area where they would simply have to do better to get my return business.Listed in: Vancouver Chinese Food

A Hong Kong style cafe with set menus and low prices.
Parking can be a little hard to find since it's usually full and driving to/in Richmond can be a pain in the ass, but I like eating here when I'm in the area. The "mini" set meals are usually what I go for and they aren't exactly mini. They usually end up becoming lunch and then a snack later on. I ordered the Baked Lobster and Bacon on Rice dish today. The meal came with an option of a hot drink and the total was $8.95. Of course it's not fresh lobster, but the combo of lobster, bacon and white sauce on rice is comfort food for me. I felt all warm and satisfied after eating this.
The service is average or sometimes pretty good for an Asian restaurant. Don't mean to stereotype, but you know it's true. -
Review from Daisy L.
Love the set menu. For 9 bucks you can get a drink and entree. The portion is big and the hk milk tea is good. Clean & decent HK Style cafe. There isn't a lot of parking, but i stayed at a hotel down the street so it was not a problem.

If you're ever stuck in Richmond at 0200 and don't feel like No.9, Silver Tower is a decent and cheaper alternative.
It's your run of the mill HK-style cafe. They did a renovation sometime in maybe 2008, so the interior looks a bit more upscale than many other similar places.
There is a cheaper set menu outside of dinner time that can save you a few bucks. The meals include a nice big drink, which you can order with "less ice" for more drink.
The Malay style dish is spicy and generally quite decent, but is missing a certain kick expected from this style of cuisine.
My biggest gripe is parking. The restaurant only has maybe 7 spots, and if you're here anytime around dinner time you're pretty much hooped. There are other spots in the larger parking lot, but all the other spots are marked for other restaurants so who knows if you'll get towed.Listed in: 2011 Cheap & Tasty

Due to the lack of parking, I have completely forgotten about this place. Recently, we've been out on some late nights on the hunt for iced milk tea and HK style cafe food.
Even on weekday nights, the parking can be packed. Inside, it's never too full though,
Their menu has a lot of selection, there's something for everyone. I love how they have so many different kinds of baked dishes. Upon scrolling through their menu, I spotted something that could not possibly be true. Baked bolognese spaghetti with ox tongue!! My two favourite things to order at a HK style cafe (among other things), and here it is, all baked in one dish. You should have seen how excited I was.
When it arrived, I was pretty excited. One bite and I knew I made the right choice. The meat sauce wasn't too saucy, nor too meaty, and the strips of ox tongue in there made it so good.
The iced milk tea isn't great here, but it does its job. Service is the typical HK style cafe ones, so don't expect anything great. They did let us, however, sit and chat for over an hour. -

Big portion sizes. Meals come with drink. One of the better Asian cafes i've been too.
Service is mediocre but 4 stars for portions and prices! -

PARKING IS HORRENDOUS, but I'm willing to search for a spot because the food is solid for an HK cafe and the service is good...and dare I say sometimes above good? It's worth the parking hassle for me to eat in a clean environment, food you cannot go wrong with no matter what you choose, and service that puts you at ease. Standard HK cafe fare with combos that include a beverage and/or other sides for $10 or less.

I used to frequent this place back in the day when it was called Golden Award. Well, according to the waitresses, Silver Tower is a completely different business. The ambiance and faces may have changed, but this spot still stands as a satisfying Hong Kong-style cafe to visit with small or large groups.
FOOD: Generous and well-prepared portions at very reasonable prices, especially if you get one of the sets that includes a beverage. Some even come with soup. Can't go wrong with something like BAKED PORK CHOP CUTLET ON RICE ($7.25) or CURRY PORK CHOP ON RICE ($7.50). My group must really like pork chops, because we added an entree (not a set) of honey-garlic pork chops -- to our surprise and delight, it consisted of a large plate piled high with pork chops. If you don't need the carbs (rice) and sugar (drink), the entree dishes are definitely the biggest meat bang for your loonie buck.
DRINKS: Typical HK cafe drinks -- coffee, tea, lemon tea, lemon coke, horlicks, even coffee WITH tea. And all drinks can come hot or cold. That's right, you can have a cup of hot Coca-cola. Try it.
ATMOSPHERE: Contemporary banquettes and booths, lots of dark wood, clean and relaxed.
PARKING: Limited parking in the lot because of all the surrounding restaurants.
ARGH: Cash only. -

Good HK cafe. Nothing amazing but I've never had a meal I can say is bad here. Everything on the menu is pretty decent.
The service isn't great... But it's a typical asian place. You don't go there for the service. -

Plus is that they are open till 3am.
Other than that, the food is just ok. We ordered some take out around 12am. Beef chow fun, I mean it's what everyone craves for late night right? The noodles were a bit broken, so that was not that good. Also really bland.
Don't think I'll be back unless nothing else is opened. -

Silver Tower is definitely solid as a HK cafe.
I'm a sucker for a) lots of and b) a variety of food. So I got the three item combo with grilled pork chop, pork cutlet and korean bbq ribs - with one and a half helpings of rice.
The boys all laughed at me because a) I ordered two types of pork and three types of meat, and b) I ordered an extra bowl of rice (although I didn't want to be too piggish so I gave half to my friend.
Can I say that I didn't think it was going to be that much food, but it fills you up. Nice portions of pork cutlet and grilled pork and the pepper gravy is super.
A perfect meal and place with the boys after hockey. It's nice to have that meal sandwiched by some great cream soup and a nice glass of milk tea. MMM. You can't beat the price for taste and portion. -

Silver Tower is the HK cafe that occupies the space once held by Golden Award (one of my favourite haunts/HK cafes). As reflected by the name change, there was definitely a downgrade in quality after the management change (but the waitstaff is still the same).
Gone are the liquid sugar on the side to go with your cold drinks so they you can sweeten to your liking. Gone are the carrots slices they used to put in the baked pork chop on rice. Now you have a sleeker, dimly lit eating space.
However, this HK cafe is still cranking out solid food in large portions at great prices. Although it cannot live up to the old Golden Award glory, it still carries some of the things that made GA a hit (i.e. no charge for cold drinks & $0.50 refills on your specialty coffee/tea drinks). Always delivering on the staples dishes.
Being open until 3AM every night makes this an excellent choice for late-night eats - much better IMO than #9. However, the crown for best HK cafe has moved across the street to Kam Do - but when Kam Do is closed, Silver Tower is your best bet.Listed in: Late Night Eats in GVRD, HK Cafes

Review from Simon K.
I come here for the late night, cheap menu eats, and for Richmond, and all the options for Hong Kong style cafe's, this is one of the better ones, in terms of menu selection, and the most important part - taste. They have a wide selection of dishes, from baked rice/noodle dishes, fried rice, meat selection and sides, and the more traditional styles of chinese dishes.
The one big plus, and this is for you late night vampires lurking past midnight, is that this place is open till 3 AM on the weekends. It was odd, after a night of playing Mah Jong, we came here at 1 AM and it still was not busy, and then 1:30 AM hit, and it was packed, from all the workers at the nearby "Summer Night Market".
You can also "super-size" the drink that comes with the meal. Just remember, adding honey to your drink means your adding an additional 50 cents! The other thing you have to watch out for is parking, as there is not much in this plaza, as this plaza only has other restaurants, even the streets are packed due to the amount of restaurants congested in this part of town.
The place itself is quite roomy, but also kinda odd, as it feels like it maybe should have been a cross of a Japanese restaurant, as all the wood they use in the place is in a black color, and due to the type of lighting they use, this place has this odd feel of bright and dark. -

As most people know the Golden Village is the best place to walk around and have meals here and there.
Silver Tower is just one of the many that have good prices for a good portion of food. With a dark atmosphere it brings in a modern look once you step in. It's a good place to go to when you are on the go looking for a hearty meal. They have different menus depending on the time of day, whether it'd be breakfast, lunch or dinner. The portions also depend on the time of day. There are a variety of different types of dishes from Asian cuisine to western. What I like best is on the menu on the very bottom is states that certain meals can get a free drink to go along with your meal. -

For Honk Kong Cafes I have to admit, that I eat here enough to enjoy it and know what I like. Actually, I don't dine here as much as I eat their food. Today, I came by to get some din din for my hunbun cause she's been working so hard and forgot to bring her dinner to work. I got the Ma Po Tofu and the Szechuan green beans (the usual dishes we eat).
I usually eat for lunch the bitter melon, beef and rice dish (and kinda skip the rice lately) and have had breakfast here with my son.
Never had anything bad which is usually good for a Hong Kong Cafe.
Trouble is that parking is sometimes hard to find during peak hours and it can deter me from coming because of this. -

A good Hong Kong Style cafe. Nothing fancy, but good simple food. We came here the first night in because it was open late. We had stir fry duck noodles and a salt fish tofu pot. Both were good for late night fare after a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG drive... try 300+ miles in a day with sightseeing to boot. It was very crowded for 10ish.
We came back here 2 days later because we needed an early start to our day in Whistler and they were one of the few restaurants open. I had their jook breakfast special with a bowl of jook and turnip cake and a sandwich (egg and spam) while my wife had the american breakfast special of eggs, hotdogs, and toast. They gave 3 turnip cakes which was 2 more than I thought and bigger than you'd get a dim sum. All for like $15 for 2 people. Amazing. I'd probably only go back here again if it were either early or really late at night. -

Beware like most other Chinese restaurants they only accept cash. I've been here two times so far. I've had the Buddha's Feast the first time and then the coconut mango pork rice the second time. Both enjoyable dishes but I was disappointed with not tasting enough of the coconut in the dish. I also have real issues with hot tea in the plastic clear cups, aka cancer in a cup.

As HK style cafes go this is not bad. This spot used to be one of my all time favorites back in the day ..... OH GOLDEN AWARD !!!! HOW I MISS YOU !!
The room is typical crappy asian interior design. Obviously the owner cheaped out and either hired (or for free) a crappy interior designer, or just decided to wing it himself. The tables are small and close-ish.
Really the draw is the food. Big portions and decent pricing. The quality isn't top-notch but better than average. The service is so-so ..... as long as it isn't late and they are talking to their girlfriends on their cell phones or gabbing with the chefs that think they are old school Hong Kong gangsters. LOL Seriously, who are you going to impress ???
Open late, and actually a decent place to study late night as it isn't too busy after 11pm and they're open til 3am. I'm guessing the weekend would be busier around that time. But, I did manage to get an hour or so or studying in while having dinner. -

We all know there's a lot of good food in Richmond. We also know that it usually doesn't cost an arm and a leg. This place is it. The service, the food, the price are all perfect. Comparing this restaurant to Copa Cafe is like comparing Robin Hood vs a Greedy pig. You get more food at Silver Tower for a fraction of the price. For example, we get the choice of 3 make your own meal set. 9.75 includes soup and a cold drink. Can you say amazing? What about the taste you say? It's MF Amazingly good. It's straight up gangsta good. As we know every place has some bad things and I must point these out as well. Parking may be tough to find. Also please be aware that it's cash only. If you go on a Thursday, we'll see you there!
