In seeing the Haystack on Man Vs Food I knew this was to become a stop on this little adventure I call life.... or well... satisfying my hunger needs.
My first bite I felt like "Holy sh1tbags this thing is good!" I am going to eat three of them. Then about half way through I realized. I am not a big fat slob, I can't possibly eat this whole thing. but gosh darn it I tried. It was as if the delicious peppery steak didn't want me to finish it, like my body was rejecting it no matter how much I wanted to cram that thing down my throat. Regardless, I gave up and saved almost half of it for later that evening.
Definitely a place to go, if not for the yummy meat and cheese, then to brag about trying.... and of course watching all the slobs devour that thing.Listed in: Man Vs Food

I've driven from western pa to here three times now just for a Haystack... Greatest sandwich I've ever had. Plus the view on the deck is pretty amazing. Only complaint is they aren't open year round, I've been craving one for months now.

We tried the haystak as reviews suggeted. It is over rated...is a basic Philli steak with a few crisp hashbrowns??? More like crisp potato fries sprinkled on top. Also had cheese fries which were simply a frozen bag of fries thrown In the frier and topped with canned cheese from the theatre nachos. Not good. Tried the sweet potato fries too. Nothing unique here. I wish we would have tried simple chili dog and got a desert from the train stand. It's a fantastic location though and a nice place to kick back an relax as the water passes. Worth a visit just for that.

Adam Richman, THANK YOU for the find and for introducing the Silo to the world. Yelpers, whatever you do, please please order the Haystack! How can you say no to marinated ribeye steak, mozzarella cheese, and crispy hash browns wrapped in a hoagie roll?? It was so overflowing with everything that (1) I couldn't see the steak at first because of the generous amount of cheese and hash browns and (2) it was so hard to keep it all together when I wanted to bite into it. Now that is a sandwich worth waiting for! The Haystack was delicious to the last bite and for those who have heartier appetites and bigger stomachs than me can order the full size version of this. I was so in heaven eating this that I seriously debating ordering one to take on the plane ride back with me to California. :)
The view from the seating area is pretty spectacular. It's right at on the river, so you can see boats passing by on their way to the Whirlpool. It's quaint and quiet and a great location to relax. There are bees around, but keep your cool and you'll be okay.
I seriously cannot wait to come back again for another Haystack!! -

If you haven't had the Haystack, you haven't really eaten at Silo.
I usually get the Cajun chicken which, I will admit, is not as "Cajuny" as Cajun should be, but it's grilled and that makes me happy.
The view is amazing and the little, converted rail car next door serves Perry's Ice Cream. It's usually staffed by a wonderful set of high school students whose understanding of a "baby" scoop means a metric f*ckton of ice cream on a small cone.
And furthermore:
I can't really see knocking a review down to 2 stars just because you were harassed by a bunch of bees. When you eat outdoors, you get the outdoors. Nuff said.
If you don't like the alcohol selection, bring your own. We brought our own bottle of wine and they didn't say boo about it. -

Yeah...so the food network sent some guy over there and it's your claim to fame. Try serving some fabulous food.
I got the beef on a weck and felt like I was eating a brick of salt. The sweet potato fries were good but the regular fries and chicken strips tasted like fish. Perhaps using a different fryer for fish would be cool.
Three stars for the fantastic view. -

What a cool place. Yes, it seems a bit touristy, but who cares. If you're a tourist you should go. If I lived here I would certainly go back for that Haystack. Steak, cheese and hash browns on a hoagie? Yes please, may I have another! If it's your first time - fuggedabout the menu and just order yourself a Haystack. If you're a husky, get the footlong. I went cheap so I didn't do the sweet potato fries - just the regular. Even if the food had sucked, which it didn't, it would have still been worth it for the view! Amazing. Cannot wait to come back.

Should be cool you'd think. An old converted Silo, overlooking the lower Niagara River. The only problem is that it is like sitting in a bees nest. If you're OK being surrounded by bees while you eat then this is a good place to go and pick up a hot dog or ice cream, but if you aren't too keen on having the company of bees while you eat then this might not be the place for you.

Super friendly and hard working staff. High standards for food quality in a short order restaurant. Privately owned with most unique signature sandwich (haystack...worth trying!). Very unique setting with awesome views of the lower Niagara river.
